If you're looking for a nostalgic, comfort food spot with all the local classics like burgers, chow fun, plate lunches and shakes, you gotta hit up Cupies Maui! Cupies always holds a special place in my heart. I've been coming here since I was little. Whenever my dad and my sister and I were in town growing up in the 90's, it was either stopping here at Cupies or the Dairy Queen nearby (which has since closed) for a yummy treat! They used to have a couple Arcade Games (with Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat) and had every childhood favorite: the tower of coin operated prizes! Of course the FOOD was what got us coming back for more! I'd always get a Bento with hot dog, spam, chicken and rice OR the BEST hamburger and crinkle fries with Mustard/Ketchup container! The hamburger and fries combo is still my usual go to. Today I went for the special drink, a refreshing Calamansi Slushie. Calamansi is a little Filipino lime. Perfect balance of tart and sweet for this hot Maui day. I decided to get the Mini Hamburger Steak today. Plate lunches come with the option of Macaroni Salad or Corn for the side so I opted for the buttery Corn. I added Sautéed Onion and Mushroom to the Hamburger Steak and it was "broke da mouth" Ono! The Mini Plate comes with 2 hamburger patties so guessing a Regular Plate is 3-4 patties. Make sure you treat yourself to a delicious Sweet Crepe! My favorite is the Banana and we always add Nutella. If you're not feeling a Crepe, you need to get a delicious Shake! The flavors are endless: Ube, Pandan, Fruity Pebbles, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Dine in outside or call in an order and park on the far side wall and someone will bring out your order. I'll usually call in to hear their Specials of the Day. read more

Cupies one of my go to places every once a while when I want a nice treat. Workers are nice and the service is pretty quick in terms of ordering. The area itself can get kinda crowded since it doesn't have the biggest parking space. The tables are outside not in a closed space so it can get hot so I prefer to just do take out most of the time. First time on Maui and first time here and I got to say it's a pretty nice place they got some water shower thing outside so if it's hot you can cool down. Anyways back to the food that you all want to know about. Too much MSG in the food. Chief need to check the groceries bought that contains manufactured MSG, monosodium glutamate. aka 'Ajinomoto'. Comes in highly concentrated form. Compared to natural occurring veggies & fruits. Caused head aches, dry mouths, gas, diarrhea, cramps, in men, inflamed prostrate gland, numbness in feet & legs. Or all of the above. Another nostalgic gem to check out while in Wailuku. We were looking for a place to get a quick bite to eat before heading to the airport, and a friend recommended this place - the breaded teriyaki was specifically mentioned as a must-try. So we got a few breaded teriyaki sandwiches, fish n chips, and fried noodles. The son absolutely loved the fried noodles - ate the whole plate before I had a chance to sample some of it! The breaded teriyaki sandwich was good, but I wouldn't consider it one of the best things to eat on Maui. This is a whole in the wall gem. If you're looking for some good shakes. This is the place to go. Fruity Pebble is one of there top items. The Breaded Teri Beef Sandwich is something to try. So I have eaten here thru pretty much all the different owners. The newest owners I feel are doing a good job of updating a Maui classic dining spot. They have tried to keep as many of the old taste and favorites as well as updating the menu with some new spins. The service is usually very good they are quick and friendly and the food quality has been good. I have had several shakes recently. They are a good value and their ice cream machine almost always works ! Plus eating here I know I'm supporting local. I really like the specials but it's also nice to know they have some of my favorites like the breaded teriyaki or the chili and rice. Or the chow fun. We returned to this old favorite because it is usually a consistently good local restaurant. Unfortunately, this time wasn't the best experience. After ordering a meal of 3 crepes , a loco moco and 2 ube shakes we were made to wait 30 minutes for our food to be done. Or rather, our pagerto go off to notify us it was ready. After watching other people get their orders, my husband had to go back to the counter to ask about our food. He was told the moco was done, but they were still waiting on the crepes. Um, what? 5 minutes later, the pager goes off and we receive a warmish moco and completely cold crepes and then had to wait another 5 minutes for the shakes. Love Cupies. Saimin overloaded is my go-to, enough food for at least two meals. The milkshakes are kinda meh, really light flavour, the slushies are better in my opinion. Try the li hing mui, it almost has a creamy flavour. Slushie umami! We found out about Cupies a few years back by accident (late flight and hotel arrival, even McD's was closed), and it's been a go-to ever since. Pre-COVID it had a great feel, lots of families dining together, great selection of all kinds of condiments to help oneself to. Post-COVID that's all gone but it's great to see the walk-up window and seating area open again. Brought my family this go-around, 4 kids, 5 adults, lots of picky eaters. I love everything I have ever eaten from Cupies the craziest best thing I have had was a Honeydew Melon slushy. It was almost too good! My regular order is a cheeseburger deluxe with fries and it never disappoints. The burger has a little bit of a smoky taste, the bun is soft and the fries are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My family and I had just gotten off a long flight from the mainland and were craving something quick and delicious! Cupies did not disappoint! It is conveniently located close to the airport so this was the perfect place to quickly grab some thing and head to our hotel. When we first got here, the place was pretty empty but once we left, it was packed! Pro tip: order on the phone before you come so that you don't have to wait too long for your delicious Hawaiian barbecue plate. The photos online don't do this place justice. You need to order to believe it! Cupies Maui is the epitome of a whole wall place that looks kind of like a drive-through fast food spot, but is actually delicious. We ordered the teriyaki beef plate, the loco moco and a pog slushy. All of these dishes really hit the spot especially the teriyaki beef plate! Chow Fun is very different, like there's some kind of spice to it which was weird. I still do phone order but there's quite a wait time while in your car which I thought was odd. Turkey dinner is a winner! Today's special was roast turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy and cranberry sauce... AND a small slice of pumpkin pie. How can you beat that for $14 plus change? The mango milkshake is amazing - creamy and thick. The burgers are great, just like homemade, but without the hassle. Fries are the big fat crinkle kind and come with a little cup of half/half ketchup and mustard mayo... a little yin/yang bonus. The chow fun is also a winner.
