I went to the original Hannah's on Norfolk Ave when I was a single 20-something and continue to stop in when back in Bethesda. We just dragged our nephew there this morning and the boy left looking amazing like in the movies soon... The strength/speciality of Hannah's has always been the same: consistency/depth of their professionals and the care they put into the work. You could/can drop in and whoever does your hair will do a good job. It's like Hannah has done the vetting for you and you don't have to hunt around Bethesda for a barber/stylist you can trust and hope to keep in touch... an example are some of the Hannah-alumni who setup their own shops in Bethesda - they are good but usually their shops don't have the depth so it is hit/miss on appointments or being available in a pinch. read more

I went to get my bangs and ends trimmed. I walked out with this chopped trash of a haircut. It was wet so I didn't see everything while I was there but after I came home, washed and dry it, you can see. Don't go there. The Asian woman doesn't know to cut hair period. read more

Great haircut! But was charged $35 for a clean shave that's left me with 4 cuts, terrible razor burn, and a pure red face with bumps. I've never experienced a shave quite that bad, and was never informed of the price. Half my face has red bumps and there are still patches of hair. Would give haircut a 5 star rating if I didn't have to experience an hour long face shave that's completely ruined my face. read more

Best neighborhood barbershop in Bethesda. Great value. I moved back to the Bethesda area four years ago and I tried all of the barbershops in Bethesda before going to Hannahs. Other barbershops in the area are double the price for less service and it always takes a long time to schedule an appointment. Hannah's is a great place where you will get to know your barber and you will get the cut you want every time for a completely reasonable price. And even though they are usually busy you can always get a haircut the same day or within 24hrs. They recently moved into a new beautiful location in convenient downtown Bethesda. The new shop is ultra-clean, with a lot of light, and I saw the team rigorously cleaning between customers. I don't like going out with COVID but I feel safe going here. Lee has been my barber for three years and she is amazing. Sometimes I go with my son and we get haircuts together. The experience couldn't be easier. Hannah and all of her team really care about each customer and go the extra mile to satisfy everyone's request. Save time and money and get a great haircut. I have been going to Lee at Hanna's for years. I grew up kind of spoiled because my mother was a graduate of The Vidal Sassoon Academy in L.A. It takes me a while to find a good barber and Lee is fantastic! My hair is difficult to work with because it is fine and blond, so mistakes are easy to see. I find Lee to be highly capable, thorough and attentive to every detail. She also works with my two daughters who have hair similar to mine, albeit quite a bit longer - her work is consistently exceptional! I could not give her a higher recommendation. Hanna's recently moved to a new facility on Del Ray Ave, around the corner from the previous location. Everything is clean and new - they are meticulous about cleanliness, very appreciated during times like these. I have not had the joy of experiencing the new shampoo sink yet, but it looks very good. read more

I've never gone anywhere else since my first visit. I've been going here for a few years now and have always had a good haircut from the crew. My usual barber is Lee but I've had the pleasure of getting a cut from both Josh and Quinn. Everyone is really friendly, takes the time to understand what look you're going for, and works efficiently. $25 for a solid haircut with a neck shave is a great deal in Bethesda. Lee has been cutting my two sons hair since their first haircuts. They are now 3&4 and we still see Lee every 4-6 weeks for a fresh cut. She does a great job even when my 3 year old refuses to sit still. I honestly have no idea how she does it. They deserve 0 stars. My bf was starting to grow a mohawk and went in just to have the sides cleaned up. They made the front look SO CROOKED and shaved HALF HIS MOHAWK OFF! They removed the back part of it! I have no idea who thinks this is a good mohawk... my bf shaved his head as soon as he got home and has to start all over again. This place is amazing for a $13 haircut. I wasn't sure what to expect as I thought paying more than $10 for a haircut is outrageous to me (I miss CC haircut shop in SF now). The barber did a great job on my hair and even use an old school razor to clean up my sideburn and the back of my neck. Fantastic job for only $13 dollars. Read the reviews and decided to go w/Hannah. After all, why go w/a "maybe" when you can get the best, - right? Right decision! I went mid-afternoon weekday which turned out to be the perfect time: no waiting, no pressure (to get in and out of the chair), and you can take your time to specify exactly how you want your hair done. Turns out that Hannah, the owner, is a Vietnamese entrepreneur who took over the shop 4 years ago all by herself w/no partners and no other financial backers. As you can imagine, it's not easy being in business all by yourself, working 6 days a week and no vacations (for 4 years!). That impressed me as did her professionalism and attention to detail. Twice after she was through I pointed out a "snip here & there" and she promptly complied. (I tend to be a picky customer). My advice: go with Hannah and you won't be disappointed. I paid $15 for the cut & $5 additional for shampoo/blow dry and I'll definitely come back again! read more

This is an update to my previous one-star review. That was based on being cut up in a significant way, but I mentioned that my previous haircuts here had been "Just OK." By that I meant not great, but passable in a fix. My recent review was focused on the two inch cut across my neck, which is now a scab on its way to become a scar. I did not mention the haircut. I need to correct that now and for this reasons I am submitting a separate review on the haircut. I have never received a negative comment about haircut in the past, but when I went to work following the most recent haircut from Hannah's, I received several. My colleagues did not know about the slice on my neck, but three separate women did comment along the lines of "wherever you got that haircut, you should not go back there." I think that says enough about the haircut, while my previous review says enough about the other kind of cut. Now I can't believe that I have written two reviews about a bad haircut experience - and I'm a guy! read more

I got an excellent haircut from Jenny. I showed her a picture of what I wanted (a modern side part) and then explained some details of some do's and dont's; she listened and then did exactly what I asked. I didn't expect it to turn out so good because of a horribly botched haircut the previous time at Bradley Barber Shop. Not only did she fix it, she gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had; and without being asked, she blended my beard into it nicely. Additionally, Jayson was on hand to give me some beard maintenance advice and happily sold me some beard oil (Beard Monster) and a nice comb. They have everything you need to keep that mane tamed and i will be picking up something for the fly-aways on my next visit. So to recap, i got an excellent haircut at a reasonable price ($19), didn't have to wait at all to get it (walked in on a Sunday afternoon), and they carry everything I need to maintain my beard. Jenny and Jayson are doing it right and I'm not sure why you'd go anywhere else (unless overpriced and terrible haircuts are your thing). read more

Hannahs is not just your run of the mill barber shop. Hannah herself is there daily and knows most of the customers by name. I've been going to Hannahs since it was opened and have no plans on changing. I can always rely on a solid haircut. The one thing that you should know is that good help is hard to find and I know that Hannah has gone through quite a few stylists. For my money I would go with Hannah or Jenny every time and wait specifically for them if you have to. I've toed the water with other stylists and been dissapointed. They do accept credit cards but encourage tips to be paid in cash last I can remember. read more

I've been going religiously, to Hannah's for many years (see my old reviews), and in general, I see Hannah Trang - The owner, exclusively. I once used Nancy, now with a less worthy Shop. While I found her to be a competent stylyes only a quasi confrontational person; thus when she opened her own shop, in computation to Hannah, I could only smile. My haircut TODAY, was understandably, outstanding. Ill babble no more. Oh, an earlier Yelper that I saw on on here today was confusing to me. He apparently made an appointment with a FORMER employee with the 1st name "Trang" and the the Shop's telephone respondent apparently confused the name with the shop's owner, Hannah Trang? Or maybe not? Interesting .... Oh: And Hannah's Shop has been known to extend the $ price courtesy to Military, Police, & Fire/Rescue. I used to go to whatever was close to me and then I found Hannah's and I have been a loyal client from the day she opened and I have referred many a person to her. I only have praise for Hannah and her operation. She runs the business professionally, listens to her clients, and provides a great haircut and service consistently. If I went to a "salon" I would pay twice as much and the experience would be half as good. The value is great. She is adding nice touches over time - a wide screen TV, free coffee, kids games, magazines....waiting for the leather sofa! I will be a client of Hannah's for as long as I have hair! I have been going to Hannah's for over 10 years. I am usually surprised at how nice the finished product turns out. I like a shop that isn't too much fuss. And Hannah and her team fulfill that with friendly and professional service. The fact that an employee leaves from time to time shouldn't be cause for too much drama. Everyone I have seen come and go there has been competent, but certainly no better than the team in place except perhaps in their own mind. There was a slight language barrier when I was trying to explain what I wanted done, but she was able to figure it out. It isn't easy to find a good barber. I've been to a lot of places, including those froufrou men's grooming places that charge an arm and a leg for what I believe to be what standard men's grooming should be. With this in mind, I offer you Hannah's Barber as the solution for any guy (or gal for that matter) who is in the market for a proper hair cut and shave. Hannah and her team are all rock stars at their craft and each of them will give you a great hair cut. Now, onto Hannah's best kept secret (until Yelp anyway), most notably Jayson. I followed Jayson from another barber as he is the singularly most committed person to his craft that I know. Jayson really takes his business seriously. When I want to be well taken care of I call Jayson and make an appointment. Once there, I can expect a rocking haircut, a proper wet shave complete with a Dovo shavette, preshave oil, top of the line shaving cream, steaming hot towels, bay rum, after shave balms...the works. In fact, if you are extra nice to him, he will use some of his own homemade stuff, which incidentally, is amazing. I make it a point to tip all of these people really well to make sure they stay in business as I would be lost without them. read more

She is an amazing person and mom and she can pull off whatever you want. And if for some reason she can't or is busy, any one of her members of her great staff can do it. The atmosphere is very welcoming for both individuals and families, and I've never witnessed any negative experiences during my visits. Personally, I always have Lee cut my hair. The search to find a new barber / hairstylist is a daunting one. Fraught with anxiety and indecision, it's a life transition that no one wants to make. Choose wrong and you're going to wait a month before getting another chance at bat. Choose right and you've pretty much hit the lottery at a million to one. But luck, as fate would have it, was on my side when I walked into Hannah's and had my first haircut from Lee roughly two years ago. Honestly, I can't say enough great things about her. Aside from being extremely professional, courteous and talented - she clearly cares tremendously about her craft. When looking back at the difference between Lee's work and my prior barber/hair-stylist, I didn't know what I was missing. Not only is Hannah's reasonably priced, open on Sundays and a breeze to find parking at (counter-intuitive for Bethesda, I know) but the quality and Lee's attention to detail is off the charts. Shorter here, longer there - make a request and she remembers it the next time you arrive. The woman is a steel trap. Months later, I began bringing my three year old daughter to have her haircut by Lee as well and she's been amazing with her. She's always patient, friendly and somehow manages to keep her still for long enough to cause even the random passerby to stop us and compliment her haircut. If you're looking for a new hairstylist in the Bethesda area, save yourself the time and agony of searching for gold. Give Lee a call - just don't steal my appointment time. ;) read more

Well I will never get my haircut here again now that they let Jayson go. He was the only barber I could trust there. The others are clueless, show them a picture and they can't even get close. Also the decorations with the 20 year old pics of bad haircuts on the walls were horrible to look at. I'm pretty sure they were all jealous of how well Jayson cut hair and had loyal customers who would only let Jayson cut their hair. read more
