Be sure to go earlier in the day if you can, as many of the most popular items sell out quickly. This Hansel and Gretel creates quite a conundrum for me. On one hand, they do bakery items really well, especially if you like sweets that aren't mind-numbingly sweet. But on the other, it's notably more expensive and the drinks are very lackluster in quality compared to the consistency I've experienced at another location of theirs OTP (Duluth). Traveling to North Atlanta to get a good sweet (I highly recommend no-frills Family Baking in Chamblee) can be a hassle and these prices at this cafe are super reflective of the touristy crowd to which they largely cater. They have an advantage of low competition in the downtown market and again the prices reflect that. If you are a person that follows dessert "trends", prepare to pay more... sorry folks, that's basic economics! But there are still options if you're on the more fundamental side of sweet-seeking. Now, it's still $1-$3 more expensive per item than most other Asian bakeries I've been to and that certainly adds up if you're grabbing multiple items. My last visit I dropped about $28 with tip for two bakery items, a tiny cream puff and a matcha latte whereas I've gotten a big bag full of items at Family Baking for $25. And one thing I can definitively say is that this place does not do well with drinks, and that's largely dependent on who the barista is when you walk in. If you are looking for ceremonial grade matcha, you will not find it here. Expect pre-mixed powders and sweeteners in most things, which in my opinion is just lazy. Selecting "no sugar" will still produce a sweet drink. I usually steer clear of the teas but coffee should be okay. It works in a pinch to fix a craving sometimes, and H&G Downtown will continue to be that for me. Extra points for occasionally being open late. read more

It's a nice place with amazing bakery items, and quick service. You grab what you want on a tray and queue up for check out. The coffee was amazing too, we tried their best per their staff; the honey comb coffee. The place was well decorated and spacious for a sit in too. The 'Oh My Mango' treat was awesome. I saw this on IG and while in Atlanta (this is only in GA), I just had to, HAD TO stop by and pick up that blue puffy mousse dessert, Berry Surprise. My husband was questioning why I would spend money on it because it was so small but he let me be. I think it was around $8? I took a bite and it had a soft consistency. I was actually expecting it to be hard on the outside (like chocolate), but I was also delighted with this. It has a sweet, tangy flavor. My husband took a bite and hated it. More for me! Stopped in for breakfast. I had a Castelo's cake and the girlfriend had a garlic hot dog. Both were great! My cake tasted like a pound cake but very fluffy and light. Always on the hunt for some unique cafes for local coffee, I stumbled upon Hansel and Gretel in my Yelp research and was not disappointed! The layout and structure felt very familiar if you've ever stopped at a Paris Baguette, where you grab a tray, parchment, and tongs to select from a mouthwatering selection of pastries and other baked goods. Although I grabbed a tray, I didn't opt for any pastries because the colorful spread in the dessert case distracted me, so I focused on those instead. I was on a mission for coffee and decided to try their most popular Honeycomb Latte (just 3/4 less sweet, because I like to taste my espresso!). I asked the barista if she recommends it best cold or hot, and was grateful she said hot was best. The latte was delicious, still a tad too sweet for me, but it gave me the instant caffeine boost I needed. For the sweets, it was so incredibly difficult to choose, but we ended up with the Georgia Peach (of course) and the Java Chip tarts to go. Both mousses were delicious, perfectly light in flavor with a fluffy texture, and the shortcrust pastry was delightful. Hubby and I savored these with every bite. Hair in the food, be careful. They make the place look nice and charge an absurd amount for each item but then I found a hair in the sleeping teddy dessert. Gross. They refunded ONLY that item but charged me for the $5.00 macaroon + tip I left. You prepared and sold food with human hair in it - you should have refunded the entire order as a gesture and in order to avoid this review. Not even an apology for the poor service. For the benefit of my waistline and bank account, I am so thankful this bakery isn't close to my home or work. I was in Atlanta for a business trip and Hansel & Gretel was just around the corner from the hotel. I visited each day of my trip. The first day I grabbed a hot chai latte and the chocolate mousse sleeping bear. The latte was pretty standard and got me through the afternoon lull. The mousse was not too sweet and had a rich cocoa flavor - I loved it. The next day I tried an iced latte and a mochi donut. I asked about the latte vs milk tea and was told the milk tea is sweeter. The latte was a tad too sweet for me but still good. The mochi donut was good with that great chewiness that comes from the rice flour. My last day in town I picked up a beef and vegetable croquette and nut thin cookies for my flight home. The croquette was delicious - a little bit of crispiness from the outside panko breading, and a flavorful filling. The cookies were super thin and crispy and great for a little sweet treat. I wanted to try one of everything and seriously, the white chocolate orange lamb was adorable. I told everyone at my conference and many people stopped by during the week. This bakery is such a cute little stop! There are plenty of baked goods prepackaged, freshly made, and boba tea options with REAL tapioca boba! My only "ehh" is going to be these weird fruit pastry things...they appear to be the trendy fruit pastries and are not! We ordered a lemon one to find out it's like an overly gelatin filled dessert. The flavor is only interestingly off putting because of the texture. The gentlemen were very kind when checking out, but didn't really offer help in choosing a good option. They also failed to let us know they only had enough boba for one drink, leaving my hubby pretty disappointed after mine was already made. Adorable bakery on Luckie Street that's a nice walking distance from me! There are nearby parking lots with low fees if you're driving, which is super convenient. The space is cozy and welcoming, perfect for getting some work done or enjoying a drink. The staff were friendly and ready to help, which made the visit even nicer. This place saved me on a recent overnight stay in downtown Atlanta. My hotel room had something about it that was making me feel icky, so I needed somewhere to park myself for a number of hours and get some work done late into the evening. Fortunately, this place was open until midnight, had very good espresso drinks, and offered a number of tantalizing treats, of which I enjoyed a nicely made custard bun. There were plenty of seating options, and I liked the work-friendly vibe created by a number of groups of students heads-down in their books and laptops. We ordered lemonades and some pastries that looked delectable! Unfortunately they did not taste as delectable as they looked. The drinks were spot on but really let down by the desserts we tried. The atmosphere is very young upscale college kid. It's a nice place could use more upkeep with cleanliness but service was incredibly friendly and kind. Service was wonderful ; the staff was awesome, especially Kennedi, who was super kind and attentive. I stopped by while in the area and tried the Vietnamese Latte (half sweet), but unfortunately it was still extremely sweet and the espresso tasted burnt. I was pretty disappointed since I had high hopes. Thankfully, I switched it out for their Jasmine Green Tea (unsweetened) and that totally made up for it! It was freshly steeped, poured over ice, and super refreshing. I didn't get to try their pastries, but there were tons of options that looked great. The café has lots of seating and outlets, making it a nice place to hang out or get some work done. If it were based on the coffee alone, it would've been a 1-star experience, but because of the great service, ambiance, and the tea, I'm giving it a solid 3 stars. read more

Great ambiance, very open space! The wifi worked well for me when I worked there. I got the lemon ginger tea, which was good, although a bit concentrated and thickly sweet when I got to the bottom. A unique coffee shop concept in Atlanta! I was visiting for a concert and stayed near by. We came by Hansel and Gretel for breakfast and were not sure what to expect. On a weekday morning, it was very slow. At the front door, you pick up a tray with a liner and a pair of tongs, then walk around the display cases to pick out your food. Most items were covered so I felt good about cleanliness. While paying at the counter, we asked if they can toast the food items. There is a self-service toasting station in the side of the cafe. Coffee was prepared behind the counter (cream, sugar, etc). Next time I would not share a tray with my group since the trays acted as our plates. read more

We purchased an egg and bacon croissant and a strawberry almond croissant. The egg and bacon croissant was extremely salty. The actual croissant part was nice, but the rest was almost inedible. The strawberry, almond croissant was yummy. The constant beeping from the beepers they give people to tell them when their beverage comes à ready is pretty annoying. Staying at a hotel near by and wanted an afternoon treat. I ordered an iced latte with Oat Milk and a Cinnamon Croissant. Latte - Fantastic! Cinnamon Croissant has nuts in it?? There should be a label saying that it has nuts. The man at the counter didn't know what type of nuts, but did offer to find out. I ended up exchanging it for a cream puff which was just ok. Wanted a great couple coffee and I got it. The sugar Lord me in from the street. It was a difficult choice but my server help me decide which coffee to have with my dessert. It was pretty empty on a Sunday which meant you could chill in the many seating areas that they have. I love the high ceiling.
