This is an excellent third space for walking, running, and biking (with caution). Flat terrain, no shaded areas, but most of all the sense of community from the regulars who trek Hansen Dam. I've been visiting for a year on a weekly basis. One thing to be mindful for are the horse scat droppings that some horse riders apparently are careless to pick after. I've walked during the morning, midday, afternoon, and evening time. I've felt safe during all times of day and even bring my family on weekends. read more

My friend and I were headed to the Watermelon festival and we took the long way around which gave us an amazing tour of just how huge this place is. There are so many fields of grass that I believe are used for sports and then a lake that's for fishing it looks really clean and well maintained. The grass that I saw was soft and green with wildflowers, I did not see any foxtails so that's a plus! This would be a great location to bring my dog to walk and play and there's tons of trees providing shade! Looking across the way and seeing the actual Damn is pretty cool, it looks like a very grand structure! read more

Good place to walk or run before or right around sunrise or sunset. Last time we came out to Hansen dam we found a dog in the walking pathway who seemed lost, thirsty and wounded. Thankfully we got him out of there by running with him all the way to the parking lot, using a blanket as a leash, and taking him to the shelter where he has since been adopted. Now I carry a leash, extra water and water bowl just in case this happens again here or elsewhere. Nice place overall but no shade, water fountains, or animal fountains like in other parks in LA. Would also be nice to have more history of this place, educational signs, and have native habitat be restored! read more

I love coming down here to soak up the surrounding views and clear my head. There are porta potty but beware they may not be clean. The only downside is that you may come across homeless people but it appears to be more under control. The ranger station is located down by the aquatic center as well. Worth it to walk the "mile" as it is known in my neighborhood; easily walkable or jogging. Pet friendly and golf course is right next door too so you also see the court. Can't believe I forgot about this hidden gem. read more

Beautiful and clean dirt trail along with a long stretch of concrete for bikers or walkers. The actual park itself is gigantic and enough space for multiple parties. There was a lot of trash but maybe because there was an event happening when I went. Someone did steal my water which kinda sucked. I really enjoyed the skatepark and it is friendly to all ages. I would come back to explore the trail more and skate when it's not so busy. read more

A big and beautiful park with a variety of things to do. I parked by the ranger station with us near Osborn and Dronfield. Then went running along the overlook trail. It's a beautiful trail that is about 2 miles each way and connects to a bunch of other trails. Great views of the lake and park on one side and the golf course on the other. I went in spring that there were so many flowers blooming. It was cool to see people riding horses too. And there was a spot to see the dam. The trail was paved, had lanes for different directions, and was very wide. I went on Sunday at 9am and there was ample parking as well as tons of space on the trail. Not crowded at all. Can't wait to come back to explore more. read more

The space for you to spend time by yourself or with your families. There is so many green grass and trees any nature lover would love. There is a long 1.6 miles to walk , power walk or run this takes you around it's a beautiful view too. There is so much places to play sports lots of people can enjoy time there. Parking can be horrible. Park far and walk is what I recommend because near the mile walk people are very rude and inpatient. My friend got in a fender bender with someone who couldn't wait and tried to fit his giant trunk through her car and another which he ended up hitting her. We frequent the running path on weekends and it's awesome. We tend to run about 5 to 9 miles which is easy and on the safe side. You do run into a few occasional homeless people but they aren't on the running path. The road is paved. No bathroom. No water fountain. read more

Nice park. I went on a random day with my aunt's dog and there was a huge huge line for COVID testing. The park itself felt very safe to walk around. There are paths and some trails that you can follow. There was also a man-made water lake(?) that was very nice to walk around. Someone was in the little security hut watching the area so yes, it did feel safe. The walk was great for scenery and looking at the hills, seeing the trees, and everything. There weren't a lot of people when I went... so it really just felt like peace, tranquility, and nature. read more

Lake does not open till 7:30 am. Lifeguard made me leave before 7am. Sunrise was 6am. California fishing can 1 hour before sunrise.

Perfect for families with small children trying to escape the heart. You can't beat the price of admission 4$ adults and 1$ for children. The grounds are very clean but the water has a crazy amount of chlorine. read more

This ain't the Hoover Dam, folks... But who cares? It's kinda cool that there's a dam out in the Valley. A friend of mine brings her kids here during the summer. There's an adjacent aquatic center. Not being a fan of public pools, I've tended to take a pass. However, I did visit the lake for an event called 1000 Lights, in which participants set a lantern afloat on the water after sunset. I decorated several lanterns in remembrance of several relatives who have passed away. It was a beautiful event, and seeing hundreds (not sure if there were actually 1000 of them) of floating lanterns on the lake was a sight to behold. Gorgeous and peaceful. I liked the fact there was plenty of parking and the lake water looked clean. The event had lots of food trucks, good music, and was extremely well-organized. I understand you can go fishing in the lake as well, so I may be back for that. read more

Okay, okay maybe I was a little harsh towards you Hansen Dam; I'm sorry! Hansen dam is not as bad as I made it out to be. It's a straight shot and you can get your 3-4 miles in real quick. You can either walk on the asphalt straight shot, the equestrian trail or you can take a long stroll around the golf course. They're all really good workouts and trails. I'm starting to really enjoy my trips here. It's a great place to start training. It's where I train, well not really train since I'm not doing anything serious, I'm just trying to get into shape and get back to my old self again. The parking lot is INSANE!!!!!!! The worst days/hours to try and park here are on the weekend and right after work between 3:30- 4:30pm. Thankfully it's only a mile away from my house so I want to get get a workout in I can just walk there. All in all, a pretty good place :) read more

I like Hansen Dam for training purposes. The loop starting around the parking lot on Osborne to Glenoaks to Wentworth St. and across the Dam is about 5.5 miles. The Hansen Dam itself is about 2 mi across. The 5.5 mi loops has a consistent uphill stretch of 1 mi, a downhill stretch on Glenoaks, and a flat stretch across the dam. The majority of this park is a complete waste of space. The dirt trails should be open to cyclists. Instead i saw (1) person on horseback and (2) people walking while many acres were left unused. It would be an amazing park for kids to learn how to ride on dirt, instead all cyclists are relegated to a paved path that has to be shared with walkers/joggers. Its a shame read more

Very cool/sad that we found this place on the last day of the swimming season, but it is still super cute! Rented a cabana for $40 and sat on the sandy beach and swam in the large pool, rode water slides, and had an overall great day with friends. Only reason for four stars was because they don't allow alcohol (I'd kill for a brew while the kids swim and play) and the Mexican Food Truck inside was just bleh. Other than that, we will definitely be back. How fun to have a city owned property right in the middle of the giant park like this...city of LA should really consider this in other locations (starting with SilverLake). read more

My go to when I need to get a quick 3.5 mile run in Have been able to find parking easily and barely any people

The playgrounds have finally been repaired and cleaned, so now it's looking great! The new and colorful rubber flooring adds security and excitement to the playgrounds. There are THREE playgrounds for different age groups. One of them is surrounded by a huge sand box (which you can easily avoid if you don't want to later find sand all over your card and home). The playgrounds are all huge, compared to most other parks, and they have tons of structures, obstacles and components, many of which I've never even seen before. They even have a scooter area where kids can safely ride up and around these ramps, away from the crowds and in view of each playground. There is also a skate park between the entrance driveway and the playgrounds. Early to mid afternoon on a Saturday and this place was popular, but not overly crowded. You could even find a place to sit down! There are 10 minimalistic unisex restrooms adjacent to the playground area. They have no lighting and they can get pretty messy, so be prepared. I really hope they can keep up the maintenance of this park and their playgrounds. It's clear they put a lot of work into making it the go-to park in the area. Add the lake, the swimming pool, hiking trails and other stuff I probably haven't discovered yet -- this is a nice park with an impressive array of things to do, especially in L.A. Great Park for children! We come to the Discovery Cube often and we always stop to play here. This park is awesome! It has 2 large structures, one for younger children and one for older children. Both have several slides, different balancing bars, bridges, tunnels etc...there is such a variety! Then there is the sand area - its huge! It has two different excavator type arms to dig out then lift/push up and dump the sand into one of the large basins. The sand structure has a canopy that creates a decent amount of shade. There is an area for kids to run around that has many different bouncy rides - fire truck, airplane etc. The restroom area is pretty clean most of the time. It has a great outdoor handwashing station. Next to the park is lots of grass to run around in. Adjacent to that is a skate park, water park and trails! read more

We attended the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society Birding outing there a little while ago, and tour leader Pat Bates did an awesome job of finding us an astounding number of birds, wildlife, and important plants...Pat knows this place like the back of her hand, and it's well worth touring with her. Her tours are monthly on Saturday mornings, EARLY before it gets hot, and you learn to appreciate so much nature in the area. It needs a cleanup effort, like all our parks right now, and Pat is working on organizing it. Today we stopped in at the Ranger Station to get our Agents of Discovery patch. Unfortunately, the company running the app hadn't sent them the patches yet. The gentleman in the office was very accommodating though and gave my 2 year old a sucker and stickers to make up for it. We had a nice conversation about Eucalyptus trees and groundwater; things we had learned on the AoD app. The rec area is also pretty awesome. The bike bath trail is really well maintained, and the playground next to the museum (I have a review on the museum too and don't recommend going) was clean. We will definitely be back to hang out here again in the near future! read more

My puppy Penny and I have been looking for place to go on walks. Even when i was looking for hiking places nearby one place came up again and again, but that place was far so i went to Hansen Damn Park instead. Hansen Dam Park is nice place and consist of Five main sections. 1) Park and Soccer field 2) Water Park 3) equestrian center 4) Hiking path 5 the golf course. I went on a wonderful walk with my good friends along the Hiking Path, which is about a mile and half one way and three round trip. The Hansen Dam area is large with parking on Foothill for soccer and park area and Parking along Osbourne for the park and different parking for the hiking path. The parking for the hiking path is elevated above the lower regions with the park on one side and the golf course on the other. The people who come here are joggers, dog walkers, and cyclist. Beware of the Cyclist. Also Make sure to come here during natural daylight as i don't believe there is any lighting at night. For your dog or puppy its a nice little walk with water fountain a mile in. don't forget to bring a bowl and treats...... ps. If your dog is cute there is a chance you'll meet a cute girl jogger...just saying..... read more

What I like best about coming here is the bike path. And the fact that, so far, everyone has observed the "keep your dog on leash" rules. There is nothing I hate worse than going somewhere where there are signs everywhere and people still let the dogs run off leash. Go to an off-leash park if that is what you want to do, otherwise keep your pooch at your side, NOT mine. Sorry, but my dog is on leash and if anything happens because your is not, it is my dog that always gets blames based on breed as opposed to owner irresponsibility. But back to the path. It is a nice place to go walk or jog at. Everyone I encounter has always been nice. My dog loves going there. There are also areas for picnics and lots of trees for shade. I really like coming here just to get away and walk a bit. Plus it is within walking distance for me so that is a bonus. read more

Once a year the watermelon festival comes here and is great! All the vendors and staff are very friendly. There are cool places to play games and donate money to. Not to mention the watermelon is delicious. $5 for parking. The Groupon deal wasn't bad. $12 without a groupon deal. The food was overpriced and cold but can't complain. We got a small bag of jerky for $9 and each game was $5 usually for 1-2 balls and $10-25 for more balls and chances of winning stuffed animals, fishes, etc. read more

I guess this was a nice glimpse of the Mexican farmers culture (and I have to say it is only "a part" of the culture or my Mexican friends would get mad). There were at least 5 bands playing music outside and there were all kinds of tacos and Mexican foods and drinks, people dancing, lots of kids running around, guys playing soccer and baseball, and lots of horses. I thought it was a special celebration, but somebody told me it was like that every weekend. Go to this park if you feel lonely and want to have some fun. read more
