I don't typically write reviews like this, but I feel compelled to share my experience so that others don't go through what I did with this company. For some background, Hanson installed my roof in 2015. At the time, everything seemed to go smoothly, and I didn't experience any immediate issues. In early 2025, I noticed paint in our master bedroom beginning to buckle. I contacted Hanson, and someone came out within a few days. After briefly checking, I was told, "all paint does that." While that didn't sit right with me, I trusted their professional judgment. Unfortunately, the issue continued to worsen. By January 2026, water was actively leaking through that exact same spot; the same one I had previously been told was not a concern. Hanson sent someone out again, and this time I was told it was due to a loose nail and that it would be fixed by the end of the week. At the same time, I scheduled an insulation company to inspect the attic for potential mold or additional damage. They came out in late February 2026. The very next day, Hanson called to say someone would be out "by the end of the week" to fix the issue, despite previously indicating it had already been addressed. A week later, before any repair was completed, we experienced a heavy rainstorm. Once again, water came through the exact same spot. The following Monday, I called for an update and was told again that someone would be there "by the end of the week." At that point, I canceled my service and hired another company, who resolved the issue in literally five minutes. I wish that was the end of it, but two weeks later I received a bill from Hanson for services that were never completed. What a scam! This entire situation could have been avoided if the issue had been properly addressed when I first reported it in 2025. Instead, I was dismissed, repeatedly given inaccurate information, and ultimately left dealing with preventable damage. I felt taken advantage of, disrespected, and unheard throughout this process. Based on my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company. read more

Fast, responsive and reliable, only roofer who ever refused to replace my roof because it didn't need to be replaced . He repaired the leak and told me that I could wait a few more years before replacing it , did not try to over sell me a new roof I didn't need , the price for a emergency repair was quite reasonable, Will definitely call him back when I need to replace the roof! read more

I signed the contract in July. It took till the end of September. Then I had a skylight put in, I ended up buying 4 skylites as the installer kept on giving me the wrong measurements. Finally { Gary} came out. He installed the skylite but he told me that he would be back to caulk around it. I tried calling him 3 times but he ignored my calls and didn't try to call me back. With a life time guarantee, I know that they will be back. The folks, or should I say kids, that installed the shingles kept on leaving early ever day. His name is Ricky and very unprofessional. I have more pictures but I could only down load one. One more thing, I had to call scheduling to get them back. It:s like the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. We used Hanson Roofing for gutter cleaning in late 2019 (they showed up and said there had been a previously scheduled appointment and since we had moved in shortly before, we went with it). We opted for another company in late 2020 to have our gutters cleaned; then, five days later, two men from Hanson Roofing showed up at my home, did not knock or ring the doorbell, but set up a tall ladder on my property and were inspecting the gutters when I noticed them outside. I sent my husband outside to say that we did not have an appointment and our gutters were clean, and to please leave our property. I'm sure he was very nice about it but I was FRUSTRATED that they would just come and do this without informing or asking the homeowner. Well, four months have gone by and now I got a "PAST DUE" invoice in the mail for services rendered on that day we kicked them off our property. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! How are they in business, seriously? Called about a leak, a guy came over, climbed up a ladder & told us what was wrong, we said cool, you're hired, & that was the last we ever saw of anyone from Hansen. 10 phone calls later we still have a leaky roof & every time we talk to someone, they have an excuse about how they are so busy, or oops they lost the work order or why can't we be more patient? This is probably one of the worst companies to use for roof repair or a new roof installation. We had our roof installed by Hanson back in 2008. I'm not sure if you can trust a company if they can't even properly install gutters on your house - we've asked them 3 times to fix an issue with the gutters THEY installed, without success. The guys cleaning our gutters now are basically fixing it for us now. They've also failed to recommend certain fixes to the roof to prevent it from sagging. I suppose if you just get mediocre contractors sent from them then that would make sense. The contractor we talked to mentioned that a few other customers of his had issues with Hanson Roofing (which they refuse to fix), I recommend you look somewhere else. read more

Removed & broke a skylight. Did not tell me about it. Did not find it until it started to fog over. Now it is not their fault. Over 10 pounds of roofing & nails found so far, even after 2 magnetic sweeps. Every time I garden next to the house I find another piece. read more

Stay far, far away from this company. I'd give sub zero stars if I could. They assured me they could repair my 1920s green tile roof on my bungalow, even though this type of roof is rare. I expected them to remove the tiles and label them - they threw them down carelessly and cracked many of them. They replaced them with off-color tiles, didn't keep the lines or spacing straight, and now my roof looks like hell. Workers were COMLETELY unskilled for this job. read more

After looking extensively for the best roofing option in the north shore I decided to go with Hanson roofing. I can't say enough about my experience. They are a little more expensive but I guarantee you it's worth the extra money. They are hands down the best at what they do. They were repairing and replacing the tiles on the historic two-flat next door without regard for throwing the broken tiles, rubbish, and materials into our yard - a tile hit our window air conditioner and the "supervisor" said that it was NOT their problem and to call the police. After FOUR broken windows from the broken, loose tiles of winter, the same supervisor said that they were not obliged to install "snow stoppers." One hates to litigate against a neighbor but, if this happens again, there seems to be no other alternative. read more

We have used Hanson Roofing two times in the past year and have had excellent results both times. The first was reroofing our garage with asphalt shingles. They did a very careful job and suggested some improvements to vent the roof more properly. The crew was efficient, hard working and did a very neat job of cleaning up. The 2nd time was much more complex, as we replaced 2 side roofs that had previously been membrane-covered metal roofs with inlaid copper roofs with built-in gutters. One roof in particular was round in shape, very complicated to execute. George, Petr and the crew did an amazing job. They were careful and meticulous at rebuilding these roofs, also performing carpentry work to reinforce the framework below the roof where needed. They were responsive to our many questions and worked very long hours, resulting in beautiful roofs and demonstrating fine craftsmanship. We highly recommend Hanson Roofing and will call on them again in the future for our roofing needs. read more

Worst roofer I've ever dealt with. Not a single call-back despite repeated e-mail and phone messages over two weeks.

I've used Hanson for some minor repairs, but several times. We'd had some storm and animal damage and they've been prompt and very reasonable in their pricing. We call, tell them what's the problem, they give a reasonable quote, make a repair that looks like the roof never had a problem, and send their invoice. Honest, professional and quick. read more

It's been two weeks and they haven't responded to either my written or phone request for an estimate to replace my roof.

This has to be the worst roofing company we ever used. Called them in May, and they still have not finished the roof and it September 2019. They have so many excuses why they can't come out " it's going to rain, my grandma died, I got a flat tire " for Christ sake, do the damn job. There are been so many warm and sunny days, and not once they came out here to finish it..that is fine, because they are not going to get a final check til they get their asses out here and finish.. I would never recommend this company. Most roofers we all know, get the job done in 4-5 days top. Not 3-4 months like these clowns. Any lawyer would love to take a case like this, so would any tv news station. They advertise " come on get it done ".. BS done in 5 months maybe.. what a damn joke. read more

They provided a quote that they said I would need to sign that night for the discounts and I did. A week later someone measured the roof & put their sign in my yard. After 2 months of waiting I was advised they underquoted 4-5% yet they re-quoted over 35% more. I requested escalation and was contacted by a VP and he advised that they were not honoring my contract unless I agreed to pay higher price. Three years ago, several days after a snow fall, I began to hear a dripping sound and discovered that my roof was leaking from a point where a wall and two roof joints met. My neighbor told me she had a similar problem and that it was basically a design flaw in our 1948 homes: in that one location, the roofs were prone to develop ice dams. She recommended that I call Hanson Roofing. So I called, and George, one of the owners, came out and looked at my roof from the outside and inside and said he knew what to do, and that I should come over to his warehouse and choose shingles. I was surprised to find that he had, literally, hundreds of styles and colors of shingles. Choosing one took more time than I expected. Several months later when the weather warmed, Hanson came out, tore off my old roof, installed water proofing sheets and then installed my new roof. Unfortunately, the following winter, ice dams developed again and somehow water began seeping into the area where the original leak was. George came out again, investigated the problem and said as soon as the weather got warm, in the spring he would fix the leak. And he did. At not additional charge. Here it is, three years later and the leak is fixed. Plus I have a great looking roof. But there is more. Several months ago, my neighbor had Hanson install a new roof on her home. The crew chief looked at my roof and noted that the sewer stack had deteriorated and told me he would replace it. He also noted that it would be best if he replaced the ridge roof vent with a metal vent and cap. No charge! Three years later! In my opinion Hanson Roofing is a company whose owner and personnel are honorable, friendly, and expert. I strongly recommend them. read more

I was so happy to find a company with four star reviews. Sadly, Hanson Roofing has been so unprofessional and unresponsive, I feel compelled to write this. I called regarding soffit and roof repairs after squirrels ate their way into my attic over the cold winter. The wildlife expert told me I needed to repair this ASAP to ensure that they didn't reenter. I called Hanson and was told there would be someone out within two days and I would receive a phone call. Great! Except that it didn't happen. I called again and was told the same thing with some excuses and apologies about how busy they are. One week later and last phone call, I spoke to a nice young lady who said they were two months out for new roofs, but she would definitely have someone out within two days to make all repairs. "So sorry" blah blah. It has not been five days since the last call. Needless to say, no email, no phone call and no worker. Very disappointed. read more

I contacted Hanson Roofing for an estimate to repair several items on my roof as well as install new gutters to a two-car garage. While waiting for a response, Hanson was working on a roofing job with one of my neighbors to the rear of our shared alley. Unfortunately, during their work on my neighbor's house, Hanson crews have been unprofessional; they have moved garbage bins from our property to deliver roofing materials or park their trucks. This would be totally fine except for the fact that they've always left the bins strewn about, usually blocking the entrance to my garage. One day a week ago, I returned home from an errand and found my garden waste bin wide open and blocking my garage entrance yet again. When I got out of my car to move the bin back to where it belongs on my property, I noticed construction materials (such as used caulk containers), a pizza box, plastic bag full of lunch waste, and lots of uneaten pizza crust had been thrown in the bin, clearly left from the Hanson Roofing crew. I phoned their office to complain (first about moving the bins and not returning them, secondly about the waste being improperly disposed of - I mean they should have taken their own waste away but at least they could have put it in the right can?) and was reassured that the crew would a) remove the garbage from the garden bin and b) would not block our garage entrance in the future. Unfortunately this morning, nearly a week later, the garbage is still there and rotting away. I now have to go out and clean out the garden waste bin to avoid a fine by the City of Evanston for throwing non-garden waste into a garden waste bin. Suffice to say on this basis, I did NOT hire Hanson to do my roofing job and certainly won't hire them in the future. read more

I was glad to find a local roofing company. However, I have to say that the level of customer service was horrible. I asked for a quote around April. I was told that someone could come to my house after memorial day - 6 weeks later. The person came out and gave me a quote for a number of issues. Unfortunately they did not even quote on the main issue that i was calling about (replacement of gutters). I followed up with the estimator, but I never received a return call. I tried a couple of times and also called the office. I even left a message for the owner. To this day, nobody has called me back. I wished that I checked review before calling. I have an amazingly challenging roof, It is a tile roof with massive inlaid copper gutters and sections of copper roofing. The previous owners destroyed the gutters by replacing the copper with a membrane. This resulted in extensive damage to the wooden frame that the gutters are recessed into. So I started looking for a roofing company to repair the damage. Several companies declined to do the work stating it was too complex. George from Hanson came out to look at the roof and agreed to repair the gutters and tiles. As the job was so complex it took several months. When finished the work was stunning. My neighbor actually stopped the metal workers from Hanson and told them that the copper work was so beautiful that they just spend time looking out their windows admiring the metal work. It is truly an art in itself. Not only did Hanson roofing repair the gutter, copper roof and tiles ; there are large overhangs ( cantilevers) that the gutters are recessed in several of these they tore apart and rebuilt from scratch with extensive wood work i was so impressed with the carpentry as well! The employees that they sent were extremely nice my dogs looked forward to seeing them everyday as they would even throw an occasional frisbee. I found one other industrial roofing company that gave me a quote on this project and they were more expensive, I am glad I went with Hanson roofing. In summary, my experience with Hanson roofing was excellent, The price was very reasonable for the amount of work. The workers were polite and worked everyday from 7:45 in the morning often time until 7:00 at night. When I had questions that came up as the work progressed the team was very responsive even giving me their cell numbers! I would not hesitate to use this company for any further roofing projects ! read more

They did a small but complicated job for me for a reasonable price -- replacing some crown moulding two and a half stories up, after birds and squirrels opened it up. The carpenter made a special trip to the lumber supply store to match the existing ogee, and then replaced and painted to match. This was not an easy job because my victorian house has gables and lots of special woodwork on the exterior, but their work matched well enough to be basically invisible. It did take a couple months and a few calls to schedule this job. But frankly, I didn't mind waiting because I couldn't find anybody else who would even take the job.
