Guy came to survey our roof for a quote and couldn't even be bothered to take any measurements to find out where the leak was until we asked if he was intending to do that. Then never got back to us with a quote despite saying he would. This was after scheduling issues where he said he would call us when he was done with a job, never did, and then when we followed up he was like "Well you never called me". From my experience they don't seem very reliable so I wouldn't personally be comfortable with them doing work on my house. read more

They came to our place after I told them to only come when I am there and supervise the beginning of their work. They came when no one could let them on our roof. They snuck on our roof from another building. Luckly, I have cameras installed around the property. It's all on camera. On top of all that, they fixed the wrong part of the roof. This review is based upon customer service, and that it took a total of 10 months for our work to be completed. We had typical roofing needs: fix some leaks, caulk some windows, vent the roof. Nothing overly complicated we were told. We were given a quote, paid half of the bill as a deposit and then we waited. And waited. And waited. And one day, after several weeks of trying to get Allendorfer Roofing to commit to a day to start work, the roofers showed up without a call or warning. Suddenly they were at my home expecting me to be there and expecting to work that day. Frustrated and fuming I had to let them work. How would I know if I was every going to see them again? I did see them again, several months later. They showed up at my house again without a call or a warning. Just a "we're outside your gate." This happened twice more. Do you want to work with a company who has no ability to plan ahead? Who tells you the work on your home is "straightforward" but puts in little effort to complete it in a timely manner? We needed a complete tear off of a flat roof, parapet repair, new skylight, and attic insulation on a 120-year-old row house. Allendorfer did 5-star work. The reason for the reduced rating is the lag time--over 10 months from when we signed the contract and constant phone calls before they scheduled the job. We've used Allendorfer since they replaced our condominium roof 13 plus years ago. Since then they have: replaced some rusted lintel beams (common in 100 plus year old buildings), tuckpointed one side of our building and most recently rebuilt one of our parapet walls (100 plus year old building again), rebuilt our chimney and replaced another lintel beam. They have also touched up the roof any time they are here. Their pricing is fair and their work is excellent. They are old school tradesmen/craftsmen who do a great job. I'm an interior contractor and I see some shoddy work almost everywhere I go. With these guys I don't have to look over their shoulder. They do excellent roof work and excellent brick work. More often than not, you need both skill sets on these old buildings so it pays to hire someone skilled in both areas. We made the mistake of letting or new deck contractor install new gutters with the deck build. Big mistake! They didn't flash the gutters properly and we had an ice dam the next winter. (Nice deck. Just don't let carpenters do your roofing) From now on, no one touches our roof or brick but Allendorfer. read more

I recently hire this company to replace the roof on my 2-flat in Andersonville, and I wanted to share my experience. I purchased my property about 10 years ago, and during the closing inspection it was noted that I needed a new roof. This past fall a leak finally broke through on the second floor and I started searching for a roofing company to get bids. Since money is so tight in this economy..at least for me, I was looking for a good price, good quality and a stable company that you could find if you ever had a problem after the work was completed. I'm in the construction industry, so getting bids and negotiating prices is not a big deal for me, but this process proved more difficult than I could imagine. One roofing company, who advertised on the radio, sent a guy out that seemed annoyed at any question I asked him. I thought to myself, if I am going to spend thousands of dollars on this project, this company's representative needs to go back to "salesman training class" and get me excited about the prospect of working with him. That 10 minute meeting produced the highest bid. The rest of the bids varied in price and the scope of work. I'm not sure why the scope of work changed with these guys...I chalk it up to them not listening and not writing their proposals careful enough. You can't use a standard contract on every job. One of the companies I contacted was Allendorfer Roofing. I spoke to the owner of the company, Richard Kotowski, and he came out with another guy, maybe his brother, I don't remember. They were super nice and explained the process in great detail to me. They sent out a carpenter the next day to go over trim details for the overhang on my front porch. The fascia, soffit, gutters, and bead board on the inside of the porch were rotted, so everything needed to be removed and replaced. This gave me an opportunity to design a fascia detail that would look good from the street and complement the design of the architecture on the house. It wasn't that complicated, but the carpenter understood what I wanted. The work that has been completed so far is this...The entire roof down to the original wood boards (circa. 1907) has been removed. The wood was in great shape and only needed a little repair, the new roof has been installed and all the debris removed. They built a large box in the back yard and ran a tubular shoot from the roof. They started Monday and finished sealing up the roof yesterday. 2 days for 80% completion. The remaining work, parapet wall rebuild, roof flashing and the porch roof rebuild is happening over the next couple of days. My backyard, sidewalks and the neighbors yards are clean and free of debris. So fast and so organized. The crew was very nice and from what the owner told me today, they have been working together for years. It certainly shows in the quality of the work and they way the process moves along. The pricing was in the middle compared to the rest of the bids, but the before and during service has been exceptional. If you are thinking of repairing or replacing your roof this year, I encourage you to contact Allendorfer Roofing Company, Ltd. Make sure you call the one on Pulaski in the city. Outstanding work.Old world craftsmanship. Did a flat roof for a condo building in the 60656 area. Starting work on a 40+ year disaster and left it a "shining gem". Commercial gutters, downspouts, rebuilt the chimney and installed a cap. Building is unrecognizable. The top floor can't say enough good things about the insulation and noise reduction. If you are looking for decent, honest people who know their stuff than please give them a chance. Fair pricing, top quality materials (not second hand knock offs) and punctual top notch performance. Allendorfer Roofing recently removed years of old roofs from our building and then both tuck pointed and put on a new roof. The work crews for Allendorfer are impeccable. They clean up after themselves DAILY and at the end of the project do an amazing final tidy up. This is one messy job and their efforts were truly appreciated.
