10/10 food, service and restaurant. We went on a saturday night and the vibes were great, loved the low lighting as well perfect for a date night. Food was very flavorful in my opinion, i loved the sauces specifically paired with the roll & edamame. Our server was attentive and friendly, my only reason for not giving a 5 star is portions. $7 for two spring rolls cut in half to seem like 4 just seemed a bit expensive for me but nonetheless still super delicious! Will be back again :)

Still one of the best Happy Hours in town (all day Sun & Mon). My friend and I met up last night at Hanzo and indulged ourselves with the "Punch Drunk Love", "Spicy Pineapple Daiquiri", "Rhubarb G&T", Garden roll, Spicy Edamame, Agedashi Tofu, Pork Gyoza, and Cucumber Salad. Food and drinks are still delicious. Servers were friendly and worked together to cover a full house. Drinks came out slower as restaurant filled up, but that's to be expected. Best to come earlier for HH, by 5-5:30. Interior is always spotless.

Even years later their happy hour is at the top of my list. With early and late happy hours. Offering both food and drinks. My favorites are the house shots and small bites .

I like that they're open late. I believe last call for food is around 11:30. I feel the food was hit or miss. The miso soup, while very hearty with lots of tofu and seaweed was extremely salty. The chicken katsu sauce was too sweet for my taste. The cucumber appetizer was extremely vinegary. Otherwise, the sushi and my friend's ramen were both very good. Service was good as well despite the staff being busy.

Cool spot tucked away and a little hard to find at night. Definitely appreciated the late night kitchen as I was getting into town late. Great service at the bar and good drink selection. Food was good but portions a bit small and presentation was lacking. I'll take what I can get though post 10pm.

I forgot to take pictures! We got the rolls, ramen and edamame. We got 4 different rolls and they were all spicy! Beware that the spice level is high... this place is known for drinks likely. It's super dark and loud. Lots of anime on TV if you're interested. Food was decent, I enjoyed the ramen. It is on the smaller portion. They also have a good happy hour menu. Service was adequate, nice waiter. Would be back when in area.

Great little cocktail bar with Asian fusion. They just did a menu change so a little different than what it's had for the past year that I recall. Still a couple vegan options. I got the garden roll and fried tofu without the spicy mayo. Miso soup on point as usual. There's a brussel sprouts veg bowl with a yummy sauce I like too. The avadashintofu is no longer on the menu but they made it for me anyways. Seems like servers aren't too familiar with new menu yet because they kept running to back to ask chef what was in certain items or any questions about what the sauces were. Overall best little spot especially during happy hour. They have it twice.

Under new management and I like it even better! Faster, friendlier service. Food's still legit. Great music to add to my playlist! This place is always a cool place to hang out.

Been to hanzo many times over the years, i never get tired of coming here. the happy hour is amazing! 10-12, cocktails included! love the sushi rolls, katsu chicken, cucumber salad, you really can't go wrong with anything here. Delicious cocktails! i've made it a mission to try a new cocktail everytime i hit Hanzo up and i haven't been disappointed. this spot is a cute date night, girls night or even just a solo dolo situation. service is great! when it's busy, give your servers grace, they are running around like crazy.

I just recently learned about Hanzo, but I wanted to go because of their reverse happy hour. I met a friend and we got there just as they opened for the night. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a very chill, calm vibe. All the employees were very attentive and we had several check in throughout our visit. The happy hour drinks and food gave enough variety and were delicious. I had the wings with the popular house sauce and the gyoza. To drink, I had two spicy jalapeño daiquiris and they were balanced and delicious. I would definitely recommend Hanzo for after work drinks and bites. I will be coming back and you should too!

Hanzo is one of our favorite date night spots. We've been fortunate to get a table almost right away most times that we make the trip out. The atmosphere is unmatched - cozy, modern, and plenty of art and anime to look at. They have screens showing anime and movies on opposite sides of the restaurant. Onto the food. Highly recommend the twice fried wings - we love the yuzu lemon pepper flavor along with the side of Lon Lon ranch. The sushi selection is great too - my husband loves ordering the dragon roll. I ordered ramen the last time we stopped by. I felt that the individual components of the bowl were great but I think the tonkotsu broth is a little too rich to really "bring it all together". I think they'd benefit from offering a shoyu-based broth. The menu is changing so they are doing away with the bao board which is disappointing! But always looking forward to what they'll come up with next. Definitely check this place out :)

I would highly recommend Hanzo for a night out with friends or even date night! My friends and I came on a Friday night for happy hour and had a reservation. There is no host table and you seat yourself so I highly recommend making reservations if you plan on coming on the weekend because they tend to get really busy. Service is decent, however it does take a while to be acknowledged after sitting down but food/drinks came out fast after that. Our waiter also made it very easy to split the bill 6 ways when some people ordered certain things for themselves. There is a nice patio outside and they do play movies or games inside for entertainment. There is a small parking lot in the front but a bigger one hidden in the back. We ordered almost one of everything off the Happy Hour menu and enjoyed them all! On top of that, everything is super affordable for HH! My favorite things were the *agadashi tofu, *pork gyoza (not pictured), and the *nigiri. I got the 'One Punch Love' cocktail off the HH menu and thought it tasted like sweet fruity champagne. I probably would not order the spicy tuna roll again as it was drowned in too much sriracha mayo. Just a warning, the spicy edamame is also very citrusy which was okay but a bit unexpected. For affordability and the vibes I would definitely come back to Hanzo again.

Hanzo is located in Alamo Heights and has Happy Hour all day Sunday, Monday & Tuesday- Saturday 4-7. I've dined here two times and it was night and day from the first visit. The atmosphere is great, drinks are great and food is mid. My first visit I ordered one drink, dumplings and a sushi roll. Service was decent and enjoyed the happy hour prices. My second visit was a terrible experience. I know it was busy but the server dropped off a menu and never returned. I asked another server for water and it never came. I decided to place my order at the bar and kept having to bring my drink/food items back to my table. Didn't mind that but would've been nice to know that from the jump. Overall, it's a nice spot to enjoy HH for a light bite but service is hit or miss. Peace.

Tried the ribs tonight. A tad salty but tenderrrrrrrrr!

So on the way, I texted and requested the password. After a brief search and knocking on several doors, I realized the entrance is behind the restaurant in its own small parking lot. Look for the green light and avoid searching around like a weirdo, like me lol. Once inside, I found the interior is cozy with seating for couples, small groups and bar seating. We asked the mixologist to put his own spin on old fashions and he delivered. I'm addicted to the spicy cinnamon version that he created! The quail pops were a nice little appetizer although they could have used a bit more seasoning. I think the drink and app prices were very reasonable. Service was laid back and friendly. My only reco would be to maybe put a bit more thought into the vintage decor and secret restroom. The restroom lock was hard to figure out, especially after a drink or two lol. Overall this Speakeasy is a great spot to add a bit of intrigue to your evening.

The Modernist -- A True Speakeasy Experience in San Antonio…read more If you're in downtown San Antonio, take a break from the River Walk and check out The Modernist. This is a true speakeasy-style lounge that's easy to overlook from the outside--it looks like a regular, unassuming place. But once you step inside, the atmosphere completely changes. The interior is cozy, intimate, and has that hidden-gem feeling you want from a speakeasy. The staff members are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I had the pleasure of having Adan behind the bar, and this guy knows how to make a good drink! As always, I started with my go-to Old Fashioned. I have to say, it was easily one of my top two Old Fashioneds I've ever had. Then I told Adan to surprise me, and he came up with some kind of peanut butter chocolate martini. Let me just say... it was a true pleasure. Rich, smooth, and absolutely delicious. What I really liked about The Modernist is that it feels like a place the locals actually frequent rather than just another tourist spot. I genuinely had a great time here. If you're visiting San Antonio and find yourself downtown, give The Modernist a try. Step away from the River Walk for a little while--you might just discover your new favorite spot.

For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us

Morrissey hadn't graced San Antonio in over 10 years, with past cancellations and postponements haunting fans along the way. So when he finally returned, San Antonio Moz fans showed up and showed out. Despite multiple after-party options across the city, fans from Brazil, the UK, Canada, Japan, and all across the U.S. chose Bang Bang Bar as the place to be on a cold Saturday night. Hosted by local emcee Ricardo Moz and Apollo DJ, the night turned into one for the history books. Bang Bang Bar is easily one of Texas' best dive-lounge bars...the perfect blend of gritty and cozy. Great cocktail program, solid beer selection, and a vibe that just works. The décor leans heavy into a 1950s-60s lounge aesthetic, with intimate spaces like the Blue Room and Yellow Room, perfect for groups of 7-10. Low lighting, warm atmosphere, and zero pretension exactly what you want for a night like this. Bang Bang Bar consistently supports local and touring acts, spanning punk, alternative, and DJ-driven nights, and this Moz Smiths Disco was no exception. It was wall-to-wall classics all night long. Major credit to Phanie and the Bang Bang Bar management they rolled up their sleeves, brought in extra bar staff, and handled an overwhelming crowd like pros. Fans waited up to 45 minutes in the cold, with a line wrapping around the building, and the energy inside never dipped. As the host of Panic On The Streets, I'm incredibly thankful to Bang Bang Bar for helping us pull off one of the best after-parties we've done in years. Fittingly, 2026 marks the 10-year anniversary of both Bang Bang Bar and Panic On The Streets of San Antonio and what a way to celebrate.
