The never-ending search for sushi in San Antonio has brought me to Sushi Haya. It has single-handedly usurped two titles from two different sushi spots that we loved, one of which I have previously reviewed! The first one, for AYCE, which was formerly held by East Blue Sushi. The second spot being Piranha Izakaya, which had been the best overall, IMO. They have very reasonable prices for the AYCE Lunch and Dinner menus. We were here for dinner. The rolls are a decent size, and the ingredients are very good quality. They have very flavorful sauces that accompany the rolls. One thing that I wish they did, which I have noticed that a lot of the AYCE eat places don't do, is serve half rolls. I just feel that they would probably have a lot less waste, and people would be able to try more of a variety. There is also a really good selection of non-sushi items that you can get as well, and probably one of the best selections that I have seen. The Robata Grill options are really good, the Raw Bar options were also very good, and fresh. One of the standout options for me was the Hibachi/Teriyaki Beef. It also came with a delicious dipping sauce. Also, the Chicken Fried Rice was better than most places that I have tried here. As far as the Special Rolls, my favorites were the New Surf & Turf, and the Mexican Sunrise. The latter states on the menu that it is a 5 pc roll, however, I got 6 both times. Score! My S/O had The Hawaii Roll, and the Mango Shrimp Roll. She loved them! Overall, the vibe was great, and the decor was definitely on-brand for a trendy sushi spot. The service was commendable. They were very attentive, and nice. We will definitely be back...often. P.S. Save room for dessert, because they have some great options. Also, you can order multiple items of the dessert! I have never seen that from any AYCE sushi spot that I have ever been to. Usually, it's only one item that you can choose. One more reason to love this place. read more

We came here as a group. Parking was easy. Our server was Rick. Fantastic guy, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food didn't take long and it was delicious. I got the chicken bento but I couldn't finish it because the portions are rather big. So I guess I have lunch for tomorrow. They also have Jasmin tea rather than just green tea. I have to update my review. This is easily the best AYCE sushi spot in San Antonio. The food is always fresh, the service is great, and I love how creative they are with the menu. On top of that, the restaurant is always clean and organized, which is something I really pay attention to. A pleasant surprise! The ambience of the inside was truly something I'd want to come back for. It wasn't rowdy. There wasn't LOUD overpowering music playing in the background and the service was also great! Great place for families to come celebrate milestones & birthdays! Of course, it being our first time -- we had really no idea what each of the rolls would entail flavor wise. Thankfully we did AYCE so we had the leisure of trying an abundant variety. The pricing was also on par with what you'd see around SATx for AYCE. I did appreciate that pricing for kiddos under 6 was $9.95 rather than $15-16 because that enabled me to take my kids who don't eat too much Asian cuisine so that they had the pleasure of trying. If you are thinking about going for the all you can eat...Do it! Ayce was 30 per person and it def worth it especially for larger groups of people, and they have a wide menu for it. I wish they had larger seating option for big groups but we made it work for a party of 6. The food was all great and you can try a variety of things included in the ayce. Sushi Haya is a win for AYCE sushi. Everything we tried was fresh and well-prepared -- from the generous nigiri to the shrimp and octopus skewers, and the seaweed salad that balanced it all out. Service was quick and attentive, and the matcha ice cream was the perfect finish. This was our third visit to Sushi Haya last Saturday and once again, it delivered consistently pleasant dining experience. The sushi and sashimi are always fresh, the tempura is crispy and made to order, and the hibachi-grilled seafood is flavorful and perfectly cooked. Whether you choose a la carte, bento box or AYCE, it's alway the same quality and taste of food. Always love our fresh food here, a way way better option than the expensive and inconsistent Japanese place at the Quarry. Also a great alternative to the equally great food and service at Umiya. The sashimi and nigiri were really good. The hibachi options on an AYCE menu were not great though but that's okay. Fried Oreos, I could've eaten ten orders. So yummy. Our server was also really nice, tall muscular guy but can't remember his name. They did seem a little scattered and we were brought food we did not order three separate times. I've been to several AYCE now from Izumi, here, buffet places and I love the order and make concept but serving full rolls may be great for those who come in groups or those who prefer rolls. Wish each one of these places offered a smaller portion so we can try more. The roll/rice ratio was better. May be back again..still debating as it didnt have the premium items I was looking for such as scallops and sweet shrimp. Kiss of fire roll was good. Thought the appetizer sushi pices were WAY too small, very small portions. The apps, expected more such as the seared tuna and salmon felt more like an "end piece", the coconut shrimp is frozen one so best to skip that one. Really fresh sashimi and fair prices for ayce! They had a lot of options and the rolls we got all tasted great. We tried the surf and turf roll, play boy roll, one of their fried rolls, coconut shrimp, crab rangoons and a lot of their sashimi and sashimi appetizers. I've come to this location many times but this might be my first dinner stop. They have all you can eat available for a little over $30 for adults. You place your order and they make everything fresh. They will tell you it's not a buffet as there is no food sitting out for picking. Instead, their menu includes appetizers, hibachi, sushi, sashimi, hot foods, desserts, and many other items. I tried mainly the coconut shrimp and seaweed salad along with several rolls, sushi, and sashimi. The coconut shrimp is okay but somewhat dry. The seaweed salad is refreshing and on par with what you'll get anywhere. The sushi rolls are very large so keep that in mind as you order. The sashimi was fresh and tasty except some of the salmon was cut kind of odd. The eel was delicious. The beef hibachi was a little overcooked and chewy. The combination yakisoba was okay, but somewhat overly limp. The green tea ice cream had a good texture but was light on flavor. Many on my table liked the fried Oreos and cheesecake. I thought the Oreos had a bit too much batter. Otherwise, it was a good experience. Make sure you place your order quickly and fully because their visits to take orders are inconsistent - it takes a while for them to come by especially if the restaurant is very busy! read more

We came to this restaurant for their all-you-can-eat menu. Their sushi was good, and they offered a wide variety. I recommend the Las Vegas roll for cooked sushi or their salmon sashimi. However, we experienced the worst service ever. We preferred a booth because we had kids, but they refused to accommodate us despite open booths. Dad had Strawberry Lemonade, Hubby and I both had the Cosmopolitan. Hubby and Dad had Miso Soup. Hubby and I had the Mixed Green Salad. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp, Hawaii Roll, Shrimp Fried Rice, Salmon, Yellowtail, White Tuna Sashimi, Tamago, Octopus, Steak, and Beef Skewers. Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream for dessert. Tried Sushi Haya and honestly... it was mid across the board. The food was mid, the service was mid, and the place was super packed, which didn't help the ambiance or experience at all. We came here after 8 PM on a Sunday. Most places in the area were closed so fortunately they were open. They were able to seat us quickly. It was pretty busy given time of day. Interior was nice and clean. They have an a la carte and an AYCE option. The latter is ~$30/pp. If you're ordering more than 2 rolls, the AYCE is obviously more worth it. Food came out pretty quick. Food tasted good for what it's worth and hit the spot. Don't expect amazing sushi quality. Green tea ice cream is a must when you come here. Overall, 4/5 stars. read more

Sushi Haya is my go to sushi AYCE in San Antonio. The food is really good for the price, and sashimi being included in the regular price is great. You can eat your worth purely through the sashimi if you wanted to. Their spicy edamame is really different from other places I've had and it's one of the dishes I often order multiple of for the table because of how much we like it. Their Yaki Soba (also applies to other hibachi stuff) can be hit or miss. I've had it here yummy with that grilled taste, then super salty that wasn't the best. The last time I went they did pretty art on the plate. Workers are pretty fast, it can get crowded at times but they don't have an issue helping out other tables so if they notice you sitting there too long someone else will be there eventually. We just moved to San Antonio and have been taking to social media for food recommendations. After moving we had a craving for some good sushi and we came across this place off a local food page. To be fair the place had a nice ambiance and our server was a nice gentleman but did not attend to us at all we were waiting over 15 minutes just to get his attention to put in an order. Overall we had a mixed experience at this sushi restaurant. The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and tasted good. The sushi itself, however, was just okay and the overall quality didn't meet our expectations. Unfortunately, we also found a hair inside one of our rolls, which was very off-putting and unacceptable. Because of this, it's unlikely we would return despite the decent appetizers. read more

I've been here many times and each time I come I've had really great sushi! White tuna, salmon, yellowtail, all melt in your mouth. Nigiri pieces are well made and bite sized. Variety of rolls to choose from, and although it is all you can eat, it is all made to order. Beautiful presentation whatever you order! My son selected Sushi Haya for his graduation dinner because he enjoys sushi, but unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. Our party included a large family group with four children under the age of 10 (ages 9, 8, 3 with a feeding tube, and 2), my elderly parents, my wife, and myself. Only my son intended to order the buffet. The rest of us planned to order from the à la carte menu, as most of us do not regularly eat sushi and expected there would be simpler options available. I respectfully spoke with the manager and requested a reasonable accommodation that would allow only my son to order the buffet while the remainder of our party ordered à la carte. The request was denied without exception. As a result, we were required to pay buffet pricing for the entire table in order for my son to enjoy the dinner he had chosen for his graduation celebration. Ultimately, we spent more than $200 on items such as chicken nuggets, rice, and other food that most of us neither wanted nor intended to order. While I understand the need for restaurant policies, particularly in situations where multiple guests may attempt to avoid buffet pricing, requiring an entire family to pay buffet rates when only one individual wishes to participate seems unreasonable and highly frustrating. Unfortunately, this experience negatively impacted what was intended to be a memorable and special graduation dinner. read more

Our server, Evelynn, was extraordinary and she kept us fed! She was very knowledgeable with the menu and ordered enough appetizers for the table to share, gave her feedback on the different sushi rolls and kept our drinks full. The kitchen staff was on it and food continued to roll out quickly, whether it was from the sushi counter or the back. If you're able to, please make reservations if not, be prepared to wait at least 20-30 minutes on weekends. We got the all you can eat, and it was very well worth it. All of the rolls were refresh. The sashimi were extremely small portions but you could always order more. The only roll that I did not like was the Hawaii one with mango. Only because the mango was not ripe, and it was sour, so it threw the rest of the ingredients off. Casual ambiance but it can make for a fun date night. read more
