I got my daughters birthday cake from here and it was absolutely delicious!!!!!! The Umi zoomi character was super cute and my 2 year old daughter just LOVED it!!! It was a chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache and cream cheese frosting. The cake was extremely moist and the ganache was perfectly velvety, creamy, and fudge like. Over all the cake was not extremely sweet and the flavors had a nice blend, it was perfect. I will definitely get future cakes for here for birthdays, holidays, or special events. After reading all the great reviews we decided to give Happy Bakeshop a try. We went Sunday morning to get treats for a party in honor of our 94 year old grandma. Disappointed to say the least. Dry, hard and not very tasty unless you like chocolate cardboard. They seemed very old. 40 bucks for 12 cupcakes that made no one happy at all. Unfortunately word got around at the party that the cupcakes were pretty bad so you've got 25 people telling 25 people and so on that they should think twice about patronizing this bakery. Happy Cakes seems to be getting a bad rap here in the yelpasphere. Some don't seem to understand the whole phenomenon or appeal of the national cupcake fad, which arrived in Denver rather late, and still seems to have some legs throughout the country. This is an indulgence of discretionary income of $3, less than a serving of latte, gelato, froyo, etc. COME ON, I don't see too many reviews from folks saying X coffee shop's or Y ice cream parlour's product should not cost $4! YO, don't go if u don't want to pay. These are small batch products, handmade, and they have to make rent selling them. This should not be equated to picking up a plastic box of a half-dozen at Soopers or even WFM for about the same price. And no, I'm NOT going to bake my own even though it's easy. I'm not going to make tiny batches of several unique/unusual flavors, or eat a dozen cupcakes in 3 days since I made so many, and I'm not going to spend my weekend in the kitchen. Whole point of it is that SOMEONE ELSE made it FOR me, designed the flavors and all I have to do is enjoy it. Yes, their "regular" cupcakes seem to be a little smaller than some, but again price and size are not really issues with the cupcake fad; they're pretty much in line with most fancy cupcakes bakeries. (And from some of the reviews, it seems possibly that consistency may be an issue here, so I'll update after later visits if I find any of the other mentioned issues.) Well enough of me ranting on the peoples reviewing the gourmet cupcake fad and not the actual business - Based on the 4 cupcakes I took home from Happy Cakes this Saturday, they're doing a pretty decent job. The store is small, but attractive and the cupcake nicely displayed for view, not in any case. I was a bit disappointed that it's basically just a take-out operation, as there's not even a few chairs for instant sugar/carb gratification, and they don't serve coffee/tea/drinks, etc.. But there's plenty of other coffee joints in the Highlands to take your stash to enjoy. The 4 tried: 1. Raspberry Lemonade - I really enjoyed the moist lemon cake and smooth raspberry frosting combo; this is a less cloying flavor with a nice bit of tartness - a refreshing change from the mainstay vanilla/choco/cream cheese flavored cupcakes/frosting. 2. Red Velvet - this one was just okay, had better. Only one I purchase that was on the dry side. 3. Snowball - Coconut cupcake with almond flavor in cake and frosting, but a little faint for me to notice much. Still moist and tasty 4. S'more - a chocolate cupcake with a graham crackers inside & marshmallow buttercream topped with a toasted marshmallow. This cupcake was ok, but maybe I'm just not a big smores fan. Seems like on a cupcake, the flavors didn't all come thru strong enough Summary - they make some nice cupcakes. I like their cakes, which were mostly moist, denser than some. So I am on a hunt for my own favorite cupcakes in the city and I found Happy Cakes on yelp and decided to try the place. So I arrived today on a Friday afternoon, I asked the person behind the counter which were the human cupcakes and which were the dog cupcakes and I think I just confused her as she looked at me with a very puzzled face. I walked into the shop and could tell immediately that they expected when they built the place that you buy the cupcakes and merchandise and you leave. They had some nice outdoor seating for a couple places next door on either side, but I think that this establishment just expected the other two places to "share" there spaces. Alright onto the cupcakes, I told the lady I would take a dozen first things first, these cupcakes were TINY for paying 3.25 per cupcake. I am paying 3.25 per cupcake for the size of a cupcake that you would get at King Soopers or Safeway, that small! Well I was thinking that's OK well there small but packed with flavor, ha ha not. The first flavor I tried was sprinkles, I think that flavor was more for kids as it had the colors but the cupcake was completely flat, disappointing. The frosting tasted like powder sugar and butter. I really expected more as I am paying a pretty penny for a cupcake and I would want a REAL frosting with a real kick not something that you can google "how to make frosting". The second flavor I tried right off hand was red velvet, that cupcake was even smaller then the sprinkles cupcake and I think they should have set the cupcake aside and not sold it, part of it was burnt on the side and I like to take the frosting off the top normally depending on the quality of the frosting, the lessor quality the more I take the frosting off and give part of it to my dog. He wants me to share with him. In the middle of the red velvet cupcake the cupcake was dented in the middle and not cooked all the way through, I was like again seriously. I had really high hopes for this place as I was paying 3.25 a cupcake. I took a couple pictures of what I have already tried, if my roommate doesn't like the dozen we most likely we have her take them to work, what a true waste as I spent 32 dollars for a dozen. However I do have to say there sugar cookies are decent, there not something I would go back for, but they were nice, soft and chewy, what a frosted sugar cookie should be like. Also I did buy two dog cupcakes and if your going to make cupcakes you should really make dog cupcakes look as real as human cupcakes and not charge highway robbery, I was thinking I get half the size of the average cupcake for half the price of your normal cupcake. One (1) Peanut Butter & Jelly, one (1) French Toast, one (1) Margarita, one (1) Happy Together (Black & White) and two (2) Red Velvet cupcakes. There were maybe four (4) other flavors that we did not pick up, all looked equally wonderful. My favorite of our six (6) cupcakes was the Happy Together, which was a blend, but not complete mixture of chocolate and vanilla cake as well as frosting. My girlfriend's favorite was the Red Velvet cupcake. The shop itself is quite clean. A glass half window wall on the counter, their cupcakes on cake stands with little descriptive signs, t-shirts and merch for sale, local fliers advertising this and that. A true local feeling shop selling wonderful and tasty goods. As we were there for 10 minutes, two customers came in to pick up larger orders. We were not sure what they were picking up, but it must have been something wonderful. I'm sure when I need to buy a plethora of cupcakes, I will be on my happy little way to Happy Cakes to make sure my recipients are delighted. The Gluten-Free cupcakes are WONDERFUL- I couldn't even tell that they were gluten-free, and I'm picky! I wish you could order gluten-free in a favorite flavor (maybe you can, I just don't know). A friend of mine had Happy Cakes cupcakes (the minis in 5 flavors) at her wedding instead of a wedding cake and they were a hit! I was put in charge of picking them up and safely delivering them to the wedding venue and when I arrived, the staff had them ready and offered to help carry them to my car. I love this place! I found it while wandering 38th and it was every bit as good as advertised. I tried the Cherry Coke and peanut butter ones on my first trip and both of them were awesome. The Cherry Coke is by far my favorite one that I've tried so far, it does legitimately taste like the soda. The peanut butter was layered on the inside, which was pretty neat. I came back a few days later because I wanted to try to Mexican chocolate and it was fine. The orange spice one was fine too, but I don't like spiced cake. And for the people saying that it's expensive, it's cheaper than most cupcake stores I've gone too but better. So I like the variety, there's one worth trying on every day of the week. I want to come back and try them all. They also have gluten-free and vegan-friendly options. I really wanted to like happy cakes more. I have been in there a couple different times and every time the cupcakes seem to taste different. The very first time I tried them I had a vanilla on chocolate cupcake and oh was it divine. The next time I came back and got the same thing I loved so much before and the frosting was not creamy at all, it was hard and the cake was super dry. The third time I had the red velvet and wasn't terribly impressed, for the cake on that was very dry as well. I don't hate this place but so far dbar desserts makes my favorite cupcakes. read more

Maybe it's just me but I seem to be off the cupcakes as of late. It's just cake... But smaller... And it costs more per serving. I do however, love the cookies this place serves up. They have a killer cookie. Don't pass it up.! Lemony sugary yumminess. Love their cookies. I also love their macarons also. Pretty great selection. Smaller in size but yummy when fresh. I ended up buying too many and I let them sit for a few days- rock hard macarons aren't great... So eat them all the day you get them, they don't keep well. Not a huge fan of their cupcakes though.. I've been a customer of Happy Bakeshop for years and I've always been extremely satisfied with their work. This year my husband and I made a custom order with them for our daughter's birthday party. We asked for cookies and cupcakes, and for the cookies to be decorated like soccer balls and for icing to be dyed neon colors to go with her party theme. When we got the cookies and cupcakes we ordered, we were extremely disappointed. Not only were the cookies all different sizes and therefore all baked differently, but the decoration looked like they spent a total of 2 minutes on it for the entire order. Either that, or they had some random individual on the street walking by do the decor. I e-mailed the shop with photos of the cookies and cupcakes expressing my disappointment, and they couldn't even be bothered to respond to me. I expected more from a small local business. A wonderful friend of mine opened my eyes to Happy Cakes at an engagement party she had. The gluten-free carrot cake mini-cupcakes were magical! Blossom, if you're wondering where that other dozen disappeared to.... Happy Cakes were at the Yelpapalooza 3.0 event and I had to stop myself from eating too much. I loved it so much I went back 2 days later to get some cupcakes for the BF's birthday. At the event I really liked the Spiced Cupcakes and also the French Toast Cupcakes... But they didn't have those when I stopped by 2 days later. Bummer.... Check-in for a 25% off total bill special offer if you decide to go there. I tried the Vanilla/Chocolate Cupcake, Pear Cupcake, Coca-Cola/Coffee Cupcake and also Coca-Cola/Chocolate Cupcake. My favorite turned out to be the Pear one... they have small pieces of Pears in the cake so it stayed really moist even after 6 hours of hanging out in the cupcake box. The rest dried up more than a little. Some of the cakes were less sweet than the others, some too sweet.... I thought the consistency could be better among their different selections of cupcakes.... I really liked the baby cupcakes at the Yelp event a lot more than the actual cupcakes I purchased. They were a lot more moist than the regular sized ones. I do like the added touch of selling small candles for 50 cents a piece, pricy but worth it if you're on the run. 25% offer is definitely helpful when you're paying $3/cupcake. Somewhat steep for gourmet but the shop is also located in the Highlands area... so maybe the overhead has been pushed to the consumers more. Cookies that one day are PERFECT and the next day are a literal inch taller and inch smaller in diameter. I provided the picture of what I envisioned the cake will look like, and they did a really good job recreating it and adding a special touch. The price was very reasonable. The taste was great, slightly dry for my taste but the combination with the chocolate filling was well balanced. I recommend this place! OMG. Last night I died and went to heaven - cupcake heaven!! I did the crazy: I work in DTC, and decided I must ABSOLUTELY have the mystery flavor of the day - lavender. I left work early (3:40) and drove over an hour in traffic and rain and hail to get to my cupcake order before they closed! I ended up with lavender, red velvet and peanut butter banana mini cupcakes (photo) and regular toasted coconut, cookies and cream, cafe mocha (not pictured) and a mutt treat for my grizzbaby. The lavender cupcake was PERFECTION. It had just enough lavender taste and it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Same goes with the peanut butter banana. Red velvets have ceased to impress me because they are so commonplace. Everything I had from this bakery just made my taste buds sing sing sing all night long. And my grizzbaby happened to enjoy his biscuit too... and he's a picky eater. :D I realized, however, that parking is really difficult to find in that area.. especially when it was raining yesterday :( my cupcake baggy (and again, why a baggy?! why not a box?!) got a little wet. The lady behind the counter was rude to me. She stood there when I walked in and just stared at me. There were several people around the counter in front of me so I figured I'd wait for the to be served but when I realized she was still standing there I asked, "can you help me?" A bit flustered, I scanned the cupcake flavors in front of me and asked what flavors were in front of the other people and she just stared at me so I decided to wedge myself between the people and look at them myself.
