PK Shabu has to be one of my favorite hot pot spots! I hadn't been to hot pot in a couple of years, and honestly I never really understood the hype until I came here. The broths are so flavorful, and I love that it's all-you-can-eat. When you sit down, you order your broth, choice of meat, and appetizers from your server, all of which are included with the unlimited hot pot. After that, you grab a plate and head to the buffet where you can load up on vegetables, noodles, seafood, and so many other options. They have a huge seafood selection, which is one of my favorite parts. There's also a station where you can make your own dipping sauce exactly how you like it, plus a little dessert section with cookies to finish off your meal. The atmosphere is super laid back, making it a great spot to stop by after work without feeling like you need to dress up. They had the World Cup playing on some TVs and anime on others, which made the vibe even more fun. My only downside was their pricing. When I first went, they had a "summer deal" where unlimited hot pot was around $25. When I came back in July, the promotion had already ended. I think calling it a "June special" instead of a "summer deal" would have been less confusing. Came here last night on a whim. They have a summer special where it's only $26.99 for AYCE that includes sushi. I love that there is so much variety for the hot pot. I'm also an avid sukiyaki broth lover so I'm glad they have it here. The sauce bar is amazing and there's so much variety to make different combinations. The sushi was okay, I think it's hit or miss in terms of freshness. I always enjoy ending the night with good ol' Kirkland ice cream bars! Service here is always friendly and quick. I'm not really impressed with this shabu place. The first time we decided to try PK Shabu, we walked in and saw that the restaurant allows dogs inside. I'm not heartless or an animal hater, but I don't think allowing animals in a restaurant is a good idea, especially for people who have dog allergies. Besides that, nobody came to seat us at first. They skipped us and took another group that arrived after us. Then, 18 minutes later, we finally got a table, and I still had to wait another 15 minutes just to order meat slices. We were also very confused about how things worked there. They have a sushi bar, but nobody explained how to order or get sushi. This place was interesting. I enjoyed the personal hot pots. We had 5 at our 8 person table and it was tight. I can't imagine 8 people.. we had an issue with my pot at the beginning, one coworker thought it was the burners, but then another saw it was because the pot wasn't making full contact with the burner, and as a safety feature, the burner doesn't get very hot because of it. They swapped my pot and it worked perfectly. I wish they would train their staff about this, so they know moving forward. Once it was all working, then it became an enjoy full experience! The veggie bar was very fresh!! They have some meats at the bar as well. We practically filled up on the bar side. Between 5 of us we ordered 8 plates of meats and we were good. So it's probably best to skip the bar with all the extras for a while. They let me mix up to 2 broths together, I mixed curry and mushroom. Perfect combination! I ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon, one was packed very nicely, the other was quite sad looking. The desert is included in the all you can eat price. They have a brilliant concept of all you can eat from choosing your broth to picking your meat and grabbing the veggies and sides yourselves. They have a wide variety of sides and veggies to choose from. They also have appetizer menu and sushi selection where you can order any items as a part of all you can eat. Personally, I won't try their sushi but that's just a personal preference. The appetizers were okay. The service is okay, the taste is okay, and they also include one dessert per person. I loved the idea but overall experience as a whole was just okay. They have clean restrooms. They have friendly servers and chefs behind the stir fry section seem knowledgeable about what they are doing. Like I said overall experience was okay. There was nothing wrong just won't be a next time. It was that kind of restaurant for me, one time experience was one time too many. Was recommended and in was eager to try it out. It is on Dobson and Broadway. Upon entry, there is plenty of tables and quite spread out. Quickly seated and greeted. This place is all included. One price and literally can eat anything. Started with water and the set out to get the vegetables. So many to choose from! The variety was amazing. When I got back to my table, the broth was waiting, piping hot! Start adding the "longer cooking" veggies and watch the magic. I really enjoy how you get your own hot pot here so you don't have to worry about sharing. I was impressed by how fresh all the ingredients were and their presentation. The soup base was flavorful, had good depth and complimented the additions. The meats were of solid quality and we made sure to load up on them. We also tried their sushi which were also pretty solid. We had some issues with one of the cooking plates. Turns out, if the bottom of your pot is burnt, it won't work and needs to be replaced. That made one of our friends have to wait a really long time before he could eat. It's a poorly loud inside but spacious. They could probably use another server or two as it was hard to order more meats, drinks, etc. I still do recommend it especially with a large group. read more

We have made PK Shabu a holiday tradition and it provides for a fun way for our family to dine together. We visited in a Tuesday night and although moderately busy we were seated right away. Broth came out quickly and the food bar was well stocked and bountiful. We couldn't believe how many seafood options there were. Our initial meat order was takes quickly and we ordered a sushi roll. Initial service was quick but lacked a little with follow-up. The food was great and the ambiance was good. Prices are not cheap but you get so much. The trick advertising is so often its habit. Having a summer special end during the summer season well before summer us over isn't well thought out. Then we went up to the bar and selected our veggies, seafood, sauces, and every fruits. We did get more than what we could handle as it was our first time. The cook time for the veggies did take a minute since some of them were cut thicker but the meats were thinly sliced and were amazing. They have long tables of 8 and each person gets their own individual pot. The sushi wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad either. The egg tasted like the burnt coating of the stone bowl though. The corn cheese was sweet and delicious. We really enjoyed them having Hunter X Hunter on in the background! Honestly a really fun night. This place is a steal! For around $40 you get unlimited appetizers, shabu shabu, broth, and access to the buffet of fresh veggies, noodles and starches, seafood, and sauces. There is even included dessert and fruit to finish. We had a lot of fun trying different things in the broth. I mixed the spicy and Tom yum broth which was lovely, we also tried a mix of spicy and curry. The best was the kimchi dumplings, the bok choy, and (I know, I'm as surprised as you are) the imitation crab meat. The biggest downside was the servers forgot a few things were ordered and then didn't come back for a long time. There was plenty to eat and we didn't pay extra for the items so it wasn't a huge deal but it did affect the meal. Overall would certainly recommend and return again. While I was mainly there for the hotpot, I decided to give the pork belly and shrimp yakitori a try. I came here years ago when I first opened in the quality of the food, was not the best, some of the meat had discoloration on the edging, which is due from oxidation from being exposed to air too long, so I'm assuming they have these meat sitting somewhere exposed open it made me stop wanting to put orders in for meat and it seems like after a few years, passing by the quality has even gotten worse most of the things displayed in regards to vegetables looked not the freshest as well some of the ingredients aren't really properly cut up so they were all very uneven weird sizes as well as the only seafood I tried, which was muscles. Every piece I had gotten had big pieces of either sand or rock or something, but it hurt my teeth at one point when I bit down into one they obviously don't clean their seafood, didn't smell fresh anyway it was so fishy in taste I ordered corn cheese and that was prob the worst tasting one I've had in my life why did the cheese in it taste rancid?? and the tables are so small you really don't have room to put stuff anywhere around you as they have there items lined up like a deli type of bar, which is a bad idea because the sauce bar area some of the things you can't really reach because of the windows that they have overhead of the items displayed, so you have to try to reach your arm all the way back while your face is smashing onto this piece of glass causing sauces to spill everywhere and they have napkins just right in front because they're used to it, which was pretty gross to see spilled sauce all over that and stuff they could've just easily re-organize this to make that not be a case read more

PK Shabu and Grill is a great AYCE option for hot pot. I never enjoyed their sushi rolls so I'm not surprised they ended up sticking to hand rolls instead. There was a waitlist for dinner but the line went quickly. We chose our broths and meats before piling our plates with items from the cold bar. We were consistently checked on but the meat refills took a while. *Shoyu: the broth was mild. While shoyu usually is sweet and salty, this broth contributed little flavor to my additions. *Beef Belly: came with a generous strip of fat. Each piece was sliced thinly and cooked easily. Tasty high quality beef. *Pork Belly: similarly paper thin. Not as fatty as the beef but still absorbed sauces well. The cold bar had a plethora of vegetables, carbs and seafood. I was impressed by the inclusion of crawfish and crab although they weren't the freshest. There were even beef ribs but since my broth was so bland, it was hard to season the tougher hunk of meat. The sauce bar was a bit limited, using a commercial sauce as a base and patrons can add spices and seasonings themselves. I would have preferred house made sauces rather than building from soy sauce. PK offered a huge variety of options for hot pot but I hope to see more robust flavors for their broths and sauces. The meats were tasty but everything would have benefited from seasoning. read more

Honestly, my fiancé and I were a little skeptical about trying PK Shabu at first. The outside is pretty dark and doesn't look very welcoming, but I was craving something soupy so we decided to give it a shot. And OMG... I'm so glad we did! Inside is super cute--fresh, clean, and way nicer than we expected. The seafood options made me so happy, and everything looked incredibly fresh. PK Shabu offers AYCE hotpot but it's pricey and the quality is mediocre. We went for lunch and it was $35/person. We made our way to the vegetable, noodle, seafood, and sauce bar. They had a huge selection but it was odd that they didn't have enoki mushrooms. Some of the seafood looked questionable but they made an effort to make it look fresh. The sauce bar was very interesting - it was missing some sauces. They also offer a dessert bar but it was just prepackaged desserts like rice krispies and brownies. I love a spicy soup so I ordered the mala. It tasted like prepackaged broth. My fiance ordered the tom yum soup which tasted better. For the meats, we ordered premium brisket, beef belly, and lamb. The lamb tasted off, like it wasn't fresh. The brisket and beef belly were so chewy. It was the lowest quality shabu meat I've ever eaten. Before we got our bill, our server offered "premium" desserts that are part of the AYCE package. He specifically said that they had Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars, tres leches, and something else. We all ordered the Haagen-Dazs ice cream but they were Costco brand LOL. It says Kirkland on the wooden sticks. It was good though, you can't go wrong with Costco! My friend also ordered the tres leches and I'm pretty sure it's from a grocery store too. Overall, it was meh. 8:45pm on a Saturday night and boy was it packed! We had just left old town Scottsdale after day drinking/celebrating a birthday and happened to see that Pk Shabu was open til 11. Soupy food is always best after! Plus, it was cold out. There were 4-5 parties ahead of us including a party of 16 people! I think we only waited about 30 mins or less minutes though. We had 5 people and unfortunately, they couldn't put us all at the bigger table so they put us a two tables right next to each other. Pros: This shabu spot has become my favorite spot (used to be Jin Shabu). They have a huge selection of vegetables, seafood, and sauces. The ingredients are fresh and the quality is good. Here, you also get your own individual pot. The spicy PK house blend broth was pretty good. I always add my own sauce blend to my broth to give it extra flavor. The place is pretty clean. They stay on top of the food bar area so they get to the mess and spills pretty quickly. Cons: -Whole party not all seated at one table. -Some of these tables need maintenance. Some of the stoves don't work at some tables. The holder for the remotes that control the boil have broken on many tables so the remotes are now placed on top of the tables instead, which takes up needed space. I have been here many times and have experienced this almost every time I've been here lately. -If you have a full table, there is not enough table space for everyone's separate plates, bowls, cups, and the meat trays. Add some pure capsaicin hot drops to your dipping sauce and broth if you love spice (found on Amazon)! Didn't have mine with me this time but it makes hot pot/shabu better! I recently visited again and I was honestly disappointed with the service. I had mentioned to the server that I had been there before so he didn't really go through everything with me again, which I didn't mind. I got up to get my toppings and I realized that I forgot to mention that I wanted rice. Once we got our broths, I asked our server for the rice. Time went by, which I understood since it was pretty busy but he never brought it over or even came in our direction. It took a different server asking if we needed anything to end up getting the rice. Later on, it was towards the end of our meal, I asked for another order of meat and again, it never came. At that point, I just wanted to leave so I asked for my check. On my first visit, we got the choice of ice cream or cake and this time it was not offered. I feel like the Grill half of the title is a lie and PK leaned super hard into the Shabu side. But hell I ain't complaining. Since its inception meats and sauces got better, they added an instant ramen wall, and they got some dessert you can ask for a slice behind the counter. Veggies noodles and seafood options are still plentiful. Only thing I will say is service while super nice can be come and go depending on the day. Worst I've ever had to do was boil something too damn spicy and had to walk to the front begging for water. But for the most part I never felt like I had to wait forever for the meat, we always had a decent amount on the table. Pretty much my go to now in the Valley. A big mix, but the sushi(1) had very old rice and the fish(eel) didn't taste right to me and I had to finish it or else there would be a fee. I mostly had the shabu section and the sauce station wasn't up to my standards. All the sauces were sweet.. why..? My usual sauce is sesame paste loads of green onion, garlic, lil spicy sauce but every sauce we tried to make came out sweet. However, I love the individual pots and my soup was good( house). I really don't know if this is common for the restaurant or ONLY a one time fluke but our visit inside the restaurant was almost repugnant to breath inside and again, heading towards the restrooms was appalling; so I do hope this was a one time scenario! (I hope...) Aside from the stench and out of operational A/C, the food, quality variety and service was absolutely top-notch! Having lived in Japan for 4 years, the variety of fresh food here for your soup base was above reproach. YOU create the taste and that is literally limitless to your vision. For people who complain about this restaurant: IGNORE them! This style of eating is about creating the flavor you want.
