After months and months of driving by I finally decided to stop by Shaanxi Garden. I was craving some beef and broccoli and that is exactly what I went for. I walked into the restaurant and the nicesr lady behind the counter greeted me and took my order. She said it would be about ten or so minutes for my order to be ready. So, I went next door to the store and then came back. That same lady and kind smile was there. I took my food and headed home. To my surprise when I got home and opened my food and it was not beef and broccoli. I immediately returned to the restaurant and the lady who helped me previously helped me again. She was super apologetic about what happened and it was so not a problem at all. They quickly fixed my food and when I got home...omg!! This was some of the best beef with broccoli I have had in a long time. The brown sauce is light with a hint of spice and not super salty. What really blew me away were the large and tender pieces of broccoli. The beef was super soft with a little chewiness to it. The meal was so good I had to stop myself not once, but three times from eating everything! I am so excited that this gem is just ten minutes from my home! If you pass by a place so many times that you don't notice it's there, you may never have the pleasure of experiencing it. This is the case with so many restaurants on Dobson Rd for me. However, I'm on a kick right now to try places that I may have overlooked as I've been seeking out the new, shiny restaurants we have in the valley. Shaanxi Garden is just that, right there in plain sight on the corner, it's been around for years. With a renewed focus on the landscape I think I will keep trying places that aren't new by any means, but are new to me. For our visit, it was about 8pm on a Wednesday evening. Definitely not popping, only a couple other tables were full. However the server was quick to greet us and get us started, and I liked ordering from my phone & a QR code, and thus being able to see the photos and descriptions of dishes. This helped us in making a great decision on what to try. And when we were finished, we "checked out" online where we placed the order and our server came over with the bill and boxes. All very smooth. I knew this place was known for its wide, thick Biang Biang noodles so we ordered the vegetarian version (tomato & egg, chili oil noodles) and an entree of the fragrant stir fried lamb. Tasty dishes! I liked the texture of the very long noodles-- good chew & bite, reminded me a bit of having lasagna noodles. Flavors were great, veggies tasted fresh, and everything came out hot & fast. We definitely couldn't finish everything so we had some leftovers for lunch another day. This was all about $34 before tip. That's a deal right now in the current food landscape! Lower price didn't taste like lower quality. It was all very good. Definitely would like to come back and try other items. I have had a hard time finding a really great Chinese restaurant. This place was good, but I am craving a certain taste from what I was accustomed to in Chicago. I did a carry-out and the food was plenty however you could count the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. The chicken was diced really small in the chicken and broccoli. It was also chicken thigh and I've only had chicken breast in the past from other restaurants. The szechuan beef was ok. Again small portion of beef with large portion of vegetables. Absolutely loved this place! Wow! It was our first time and it was really good. I was a bigger fan of all our appetizers than our entrees but we still had a great time! 1. crispy green beans - it had a kick to it and it was all made crispy and hot - I could eat this whole order by myself twice and eat it as my entree! I was here on Valentine's Day with my girl only again to be bitten by the nasty food and super slow service. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and two entrées. I ordered the cumin lamb noodles. And my girl had the braised beef noodle dish. Not only were they shorthanded and understaffed in the kitchen food tech forever to get out. And when I did, mine was ice cold as was hers I wish I had taken a picture on how bad this dish looked because obviously it had been sitting there a while. Spent nearly $100. Unsuspecting restaurant. I've passed by this place a ton of times, but I never actually went in until recently. The inside is much larger than I expected; I don't know how big I thought it would be, but... much larger than I thought lol. You order everything through a QR code, but you need to wait to be seated. I'm all fine with that, but they only had one waitress at the time (who was in charge of the entire restaurant, cleaning tables, and bringing out food/drinks), so it took a little bit of time to get seated. The menu is LARGE. Not as large as Asian Cafe Express, but it was a ton of scrolling on their site. We ordered the spicy dumplings, braised pork biangbiang noodles, and the cumin lamb oil biangbiang noodles. The spicy dumplings was actually pretty large. It was super vinegary, but it could have done to be spicier. The pork noodles were super yummy, I miss hand pulled noodles and these definitely satisfied the itch. I felt there was enough for two meals for me (I didn't go eat out hungry + the dumplings filled me up). The cumin lamb noodles were also good, and I liked how that had much more vegetables/colours that were not just brown. Between the two, I think I liked my pork noodles more, but next time, i'd want to try their soup biangbiang noodles. read more

I really enjoyed this place. I ordered takeout on a Saturday night- shrimp fried rice, Mongolian beef and egg drop soup, everything was steaming hot and soo flavorful. I would get all those items again. The wait time honestly wasn't bad either, about 20 mins. The place was clean too and nice staff. read more

I have been coming here off and on for years, ever since they first opened. Let me start off by saying that this is one of those places where I go to for very specific items. These items include the dip noodles in garlic sauce, which are wide hand pulled noodles with a side of garlic sauce, and the stir-fried bean jelly. The hand pulled noodles are always so fresh and bouncy, with a nice chew to them. Their garlic sauce is probably one of my top favorites in general. They don't hold back on the garlic, and the sauce has a nice kick to it without being too spicy for my tastebuds. Their stir-fried bean jelly was recommended to us on our first visit and we never looked back since. Something about the texture and taste just works well together. An item worthy of an honorable mention would have to be the hand pulled noodles with cumin lamb. However, this dish is super spicy for our taste buds so it's not a must order every time. Whenever we've been here, service has always been friendly and helpful in general. The ambiance is lowkey and comfortable with Chinese décor throughout the whole restaurant. Overall, this is a solid spot if you're looking for authentic Chinese food. They don't skimp on the flavor or spices! read more

Broke our Xmas tradition and went out for Chinese for dinner on the 25th and I was tasked with finding a great spot to try. I previewed the menu photos and couldn't make up my mind on what to get so like we've done in the past is just go overboard and order lots . So glad we got there just after they opened (special hours 4pm - 8pm just for Xmas dinner), because it got really busy after 5pm. One thing we noticed is that they could have had more wait staff to get around to the patrons (2 weren't enough to handle the influx of diners). All in all we thought everything was perfectly seasoned (not salty like we've had at other places), but balanced well. I took the other reviewers tips and made sure to get the famous flat noodles with the lamb / cumin and that dish was the star of the night for us. I almost always opt for Mexican food...but not this night. We were hungry...we had options...then my best friend said "there's a pretty good Chinese place up here, let's do that." I was initially against it,...I wanted a burrito, but I gave in. This is a sit and order at your table place. We were greeted quickly with a smile. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Lots of seating inside and everything looked clean and inviting. The plates are definitely shareable, but we figured that out after ordering. I got the Biang Biang Noodles with Pork and it was really good! Nice and spicy with thick slices of jalapeño. My friends ordered other entrees that I tasted and liked them. First time eating here in person! Pretty busy on a Saturday night walking in at 6pm. Spacious restaurant with a lot of large tables for bigger parties. There was live classical Chinese music playing as well which is pretty cool! The food here is pretty good and we would return for it. We ordered the water boiled fish which is a HUGE portion and too big for 2 so we had plenty of leftovers lol. Be careful, it's spicy. The biang biang noodles with pork and noodles with cumin lamb were delicious. My only gripe is that they're a bit understaffed. The wait times in between ordering weren't terribly long, but the 2 staff on the floor were quite busy and we had to remind them for bowls of rice to eat with our fish. Finally made good on my intentions to come back to this place for another go after having swung by during the Covid-19 times and only having access to their restricted menu. We ordered the fish water boil, shaanxi style burger w/ pork, biangbiang noodles (stir-fried noodles w/ pork), and the cold dish sliced pork in garlic sauce. The water boil was average, which I cannot fault them as this is traditionally a Szechuan style of cuisine. Theirs does not have the tongue numbing spice nor whole peppercorn that is typically found...so we screwed the pooch by ordering it and expecting something else. Good but we shouldn't have ordered it here tbh. The burger was unique, flaky, crusty, doughy, but the flavoring of the meat stuffing inside was odd. Sour, off-putting flavor, while I was expecting something on the more savory side. The noodle dish was the best part of the meal. Which I was truly hoping that it would be as they claim to specialize in hand pulled noodles and I was craving hand pulled noodles for a long time. I would definitely come back here again to try other offerings in their noodles section. And definitely order another main entree course that should be more of their specialty. I wanted some good eats without having to cook though so enter: Shaanxi Garden! We got the Water Boiled Fish in Spicy Oil, Dry Pot with Duck (my substitution for the big turkey bird for the holiday), and Beef with Vegetables. The three of us dug into a very moreish water boiled fish. I enjoyed eating rice with the sauce more than anything. The Dry Pot with Duck was interesting. It wasn't what I imagine but I liked it. As for Beef and Vegetables, it was pretty standard so no complaints. Shaanxi Garden is a great place. After hearing and seeing rave reviews for Shaanxi Garden, I decided to check it out. Don't miss this place. Their menu is varied and has everything from classics to unique specialties from northwestern China. We tried the dumplings in spicy chili sauce, chicken fried rice (yeah, I know...my companion is a less adventurous eater) and a spicy chicken entree that REALLY upped the spice game while still being enjoyable. While it's in a strip mall, once you walk in, you'll notice sweet murals of Chinese people enjoying games, food, sports and traditional cultural elements. There is an area where musicians can play traditional music, a bar and pretty lanterns. The floor is worth noting as well, with large tiles reflecting Chinese culture and landmarks. So, how was the food, you ask? I'll be back. Soon. The dumplings are amazing. The fried rice was very bland. Next time we'll order it spicy. And the chicken dish had amazing flavor and spice. The one drawback was I did find chicken bone in two pieces of the chicken thigh meat. The chef needs to be more careful when chopping the meat. Having said that, the food at other tables looked great, patrons seemed very happy and the atmosphere was very nice. I'll look forward to updating my review after a next visit. The food here is very good, and I'm happy with the portion sizes, even though I think it can be a bit pricey. Staff is friendly, and they can adjust the level of spice for you too if you ask. The restaurant sometimes will have live music where a woman will play a traditional Chinese instrument called a Guzheng, which is pretty cool to listen to while you eat. I like the Biang biang noodles, the cold mixed cucumber dish, and the sliced potatoes dish. Do note that while this place does offer American-style Chinese food, they are more known for their more traditional Chinese dishes and that's what I recommend you order if you visit. Parking is super easy here too. read more

We have been searching for this type of green bean since Shin Shin in Windsor Ontario and these are similar. Crisp and fresh- a must try. Baing Baing noodles. A big hot with the team. The noodles are about an inch wide and very long. Dry Hot Pot. Very good with a good numbing pepper taste. Lettuce Wrapped Lamb. Most unusual item of the night. I have been to Shaanxi Garden many many times while I was living in Tempe. Their Biang Biang noodles were outstanding. I loved the lamb cumin ones. My wife adored the pork ones. Super delicious. We've been coming to this restaurant for years at least five food was always stellar. The last five months something has very much changed! I don't know if it's a new owners different cooks, what it is, but we've had a bad experience several times now. And will no longer be going back. The last three times we've gotten hot and sour soup it's tasted and smelled like cow patty. And again that used to be a regular item we got so we know something has changed. I've gone several times before and have gotten light sauce or sauce on the side trying to be on a diet. This time I was told it was impossible, which was weird so then I made my order and I got the wrong dish with the wrong protein and it was just dripping with water no sauce at all. My friend ordered Thai chicken and got sweet-and-sour chicken that was breaded when the picture online shows Thai chicken with the description and doesn't show it being breaded. The waitress then argued with my friend for several minutes, trying to explain that that was Thai chicken. However, there was no basil in it. It was breaded and there was no special chilies. We ordered soup two appetizers and four entrées. Again have been coming here for years. Typically the soup comes out first then we get our appetizers and then shortly later here come the entrées. This time was extremely messed up. Got one entrée with nothing else on the table then a second entrée came out then the next two entrées came out at that point, two of them were wrong. We then waited for our server to come back and asked her for our soup and appetizers and she said they take a while to make. Again, not our first time coming to this restaurant so we know that's not true. We also got four entrées, which means we should've gotten four servings of rice or at least a bowl of rice with our food nothing. The soup finally comes, and then one of the appetizers come which later we found out no one ordered eggrolls. We ordered the crab puffs and potstickers neither sound like eggrolls. Overall, the whole experience has been very disappointing and now we will be looking for a new restaurant. Food quality service have all gone downhill. The food is still fantastic and we travel from Phoenix to eat here. But....... Please please get rid of the horrible new way to order. The seat you and tell you to scan a QR code. Then you have to scroll through a huge menu on your phone and search for the food you want to order. The interface is clunky. Meanwhile the waiter that used to take your order is standing there waiting for the order. The restaurant has lots of unique dishes, which will be great a large party to sample them. Since I am by myself, i ordered Cucumber and Hot Oil Seared lamb noodle. The cucumber with garlic was great. The unique hot oil seared noodle looked spicy, but did not really catch much. The flavor was great, but the only shortcoming was lack of cumin lamb inside the bowl. Way too much potato in this dish. We went on a Wednesday night, and there was only one waitress. She was the hostess waitress, the buster. we waited a long time to order drinks. We waited a long time to put in our order. I think the longest that we waited was for our check. We did not get our check until at least 30 minutes later we asked for two to go boxes and she left and it took about 10 minutes. read more

We expected yummy crispy chicken from their signature app but only got meh The dry seasoning on the side was delicious but could not save the sinking dish. The noodles were outstanding with excellent texture and mouth feel. However the sauce was bland and the portion was extremely small for the price. The lone star was the dry green beans which were well prepared and well seasoned. However for a $50 check, it should not be the green beans that steal the show. We won't be back. read more
