The owner Gio is a solid guy who knows his stuff and has created a sandwich shop to rival many I've enjoyed in NYC. My first meal was La Polpetta on a semonola roll and I have to say...one of the best meatball subs I've enjoyed in...FOREVER. The sauce was light and did not overpower the sandwich while the meatballs (love how they are sliced) were absolutely delicious. I also had some of the pasta salad and it had everything you could ever want in a pasta salad. Now Gio does a monthly sandwich special and for August it's the IL Dolce Piccante. This creation is a flavor bomb nestled between Gio's homemade focaccia bread. This sandwich is huge (picture is only half) but the pepper relish really kicks the flavors up a notch. It's not hot or overly spicy...just enough kick to make itself known. If I lived in the area I would have to work my way through the entire menu...LOL. The only negative was that the server was unfamiliar with Chai tea and brought coffee for me. I'm not a coffee drinker at all, so I was a little bit disappointed. All in all, it was okay. They were very impressed! Ordered two pierogi sampler plates, one beef and pork dumplings, and one bowl of butternut squash soup. Finished with a slice of honey sour cream cake. Everything was delicious, and our entire party was blown away by the food quality and taste. Andre was an amazing host, and we all felt very welcome there. The shop in front sells a variety of German goodies, including meats, cheeses, sausages, candies, condiments, and more. We've sat in the dining area roughly three times so far and have enjoyed each visit. Service has been great during the late afternoon and evening. Lunch can sometimes be hit or miss because it tends to be busy. The sandwiches are delicious, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. I also highly recommend ordering the mini potato pancakes. They're almost like big tater tots! They're always freshly made and are one of the best items on the menu. For dessert, the German chocolate cake or Black Forest torte would have to be my top choices. There is also an interesting variety of beers available in both the restaurant and takeaway area, whether you want to enjoy one there or take some home. The condiments and sausages are comparable in quality to Schaller & Weber. This location of Dunderbak's reminds us a lot of the German restaurant Hollerbach's in Sanford, which is a nice comparison.
