I usually try to avoid giving restaurants a one star rating, because I know that running a business can be trying, but there are limits to a person's patience and Happy China gleefully trampled over mine in quite a number of ways. On impulse I placed an order. I figured it was a soft cheat day and I could use some shrimp rolls and shrimp fried rice to match the rolls. (If you are ever in Jersey City I highly recommend Kay's Spring Garden for efficiency and service). Grubhub state's that the order itself would take almost two hours to make and deliver. I found that questionable... I was only ordering what I usually order--see above. How complicated would it be to prepare a simple order like that? But... at 8:40ish I figured I'd sit back, watch some cheap TV, and wait. Over an hour later and approaching 10:00pm I get a call from the front desk. The order is here. Front desk tells driver to bring it to room 1221. I wait in anticipation and even exit outside to signal to the driver to come to me. He never came. As a matter of fact I got a second call from the hotel inquiring about the order. I told them it hadn't arrived at all, perhaps the driver dropped it in the wrong room. I called Happy China and was greeted by the most disagreeable woman who made every attempt to lecture me on the fact they had called me and I did not pick up. (No call came to me from Happy China.) I kept informing her that a) I had my phone on me at all times and b) the room was 1221, not another room. She began berating me as if it was still may fault that the delivery was left in the wrong place. I even told her i would go and fetch it as it was around the corner from me. She didn't seem to comply and then had me on hold wanting the driver to re-deliver to my door. She then proceeds to scold me on not having the phone on me, as if I'd deliberately not picked up the phone. I told her in succinct tones that I have ordered for years now. When I travel I leave the hotel name address and room number on the order. Instead of acknowledging the error she continues to bulldoze her way stating that my signal was bad. That my phone service was bad. That I needed a better phone. I stopped her dead in her tracks and told her I have a high tension job that demands I have my phone on me at the ready in case and I have ordered in other places to no conflict. Except now. Then she quickly deflects the argument to the fact that the order was accepted by the guests in room 1224 who took it and that this happens often; people steal orders like crazy in Louisville it seems. I basically let her know it was best to discontinue deflection of responsibility through this fruitless argument and she at least removed the charge. At the stroke of 9:00 am today I receive a call. My order was found intact in front of 1224. After asking them if anyone was in that room front desk informed me that no one has stayed in that room or 1223 since March 10 of the year in transit. So the woman's story of people stealing orders was a bold faced lie to cover her and her driver's incompetency to complete a simple delivery. I think it's rather clear I won't be eating this. I don't harbor an ambition to poison myself. So... I'm unclear and pretty repulsed by this lie. What was the purpose of it? I'm just beyond at this point. No rhyme or reason. As constructive criticism, I understand that running a business can be stressful but when an error is made -- especially for something like this -- the business must take ownership and not gaslight the caller/client who only wanted a warm meal at the end of the day. read more

If this place could get their stuff together, it would be great! Delivery is at minimum, 1 hour. Most days expect a 2 hour wait! The food is so good but they are very frustrating to deal with for any kind of delivery because the hours are random and delivery time is so long. read more

If you want good old fashion Chinese Take Out you will be hard press to beat Happy China. The food is very good, they have limited seating if you want to dine in but they do deliver as well. The staff at Happy China is also very friendly My two favorites are the Beef Fried Rice and Mongolian Beef. read more

Ordered some takeout from here today and it was sooo good! The food arrived earlier than expected, hot and everything tasted really good. I got the Chicken Rice Soup, Pork Egg Roll, Steamed Chicken with Mixed Vegetables, which was from the healthy section and lastly, the Roast Pork Chinese Vegetable. Soup was awesome, Egg Roll was to die for, and the Roast Pork was really yummy; had a lot of veggies, and the sauce was provided separately. The Steamed Chicken was my fave - tasted healthy, almost no salt, which is what I requested, and the portions were huge for all the items. Awesome prices too! read more

I've yet to receive my food. Just got off the phone with the customer service and was told it will be another 35 mins.. meaning the overall time from ordering to delivery will be OVER THREE HOURS.. yes, that's right ... more than THREE HOURS.. I'm a pretty patient person.. and under the circumstances of COVID, I'll even cut you some extra slack.. BUT more than THREE HOURS?? Really??? You might have wanted to let me know before I placed the order as opposed to ten minutes before every other option in town closes, including the grocery!! Yes.. that's right.. evry other option.. this isn't the only place open!! So, there is absolutely NO reason why more than THREE HOURS is somehow played off like a legitimate inconvenience- I've been ordering delivery and curb side takeout for weeks. I think it's safe to safe that it's unrealistic to expect your customers to wait more than THREE HOURS and just be okay with that.. ?!?! And I finally received the food. No apology.. NOTHING- Not a discount -nothing- They charged me full price- tor a meal that took over three hours... So, i will NEVER order from here EVER AGAIN. Whom ever is running this place has obviously never heard of the words "customer service". And FYI- The spring rolls are NOT SPRING ROLLS!! Apparently, they are selling the spring rolls that are traditionally passed around at a Leprechaun party. They are smaller than a packet of soy sauce and they are disgusting.. I've never in my entire life seen a Chinese place try to pass off something the size of an O.b. Tampon as a spring roll?? They are disgusting, in addition to being some alternate version of a spring roll. In addition, The crab Rangoon are also the Petit Rangoon's that are traditionally served by catering companies to be passed around as finger food. They are not the full size crab Rangoon. At least they aren't as disgusting as the excuse for a spring roll. Good luck if you order from here-- and beware they don't actually have spring rolls. read more

We always get our Chinese takeout here. Everything is good and they include a free crab Rangoon with a $20+ order! I was hoping to look at pictures of the different menu items to decide what to get as I like to switch it up and never remember what I've already tried, but not a lot of people have uploaded them. I have never felt the need to review a restaurant until tonight... I Have gotten take out 3 times and was very satisfied with the taste of the food. But I just got to the bottom of my dish and found a cosmetic finger nail in my food. Will not be ordering from Happy China again. Happy China? More like Sad China! read more

The order took forever to get here. I had allowed for plenty of lead time before since we were going to participate in some online gaming (we had to postpone it b/c of the food taking too long!). The delivery time took so long that when we got our food I was livid that the rice was sub par, which is one of the most basic things you can make and expect a Chinese restaurant to do a good job of as it is a STAPLE food. It was probably the weirdest tasting rice I've had. It was not a good batch and I had to stop eating it. The sweet and sour chicken had become cold although it was still good. As I continued to eat it, I felt a little sick and did not finish it. The lo mein was meh, but the egg drop soup was delicious. The person I also ordered for got sick of the food we ordered and was unhappy with it. Even though the egg drop soup was delicious, I probably won't order from here again if I can help it. There's a place I know of that I will probably just drive to for takeout if I'm considering Chinese food in the future. read more

I recently ordered from Happy China as my preferred Chinese delivery restaurant was closed due to COVID. While I appreciated their prompt delivery, I found the food sadly subpar. It was very greasy, to the point where my egg roll was soggy with grease and my noodles were in a puddle of grease. The whole meal was also rather flavorless, without even the salt content I've come to expect from Chinese takeout. It was not worth finishing, and I will not be ordering again. Weirdly, the fortune cookies were printed on the back of ads for a tax agency which I have never seen before. It really worked to further cheapen the cuisine. read more

Came here the firs time because it was one of the few Chinese restaurants open during quarantine (open until 10:30pm). Ended up LOVING IT. Came back again a week later and told the employees how much we had loved it - and they threw in some free crab ragoons and egg rolls. Employees were so kind, food was fresh and cheap. Ordered orange chicken, 2 orders crab Rangoon, egg rolls, egg drop soup, 2 orders fried rice (plus the free order of crab ragoons and egg rolls) total $27. SO MUCH food. I ordered from work a delivery order. It arrived on time which was good because it was ordered to arrive just a few minutes before I left for the day. The food was delicious and arrived very hot. ...HOWEVER...I had a severed allergic reaction to something in the food. I do not know if a lot of MSG was used or if the food was possibly cooked with a tree nut oil (I'm allergic to tree nuts, but there was none listed on the menu) I didn't have my epi-pen with me and I almost ended up in the Emergency room from whatever this was. I barely made it home safely and took Benadryl and this had me sleeping the rest of the evening when I had a lot of work to do for my job that evening and I missed a event at my kids new school :-/ ..HOWEVER in saying that my review is still only one star off as my personal allergies are not the fault of the restaurant, but 1 star removed as there is to have been something in the food either not listed or that made its way in or was cooked in a pot/wok possibly that somehow transferred a allergen to my food. I don't even know where to start. I placed an order 2 hours ago and still haven't received it. They aren't answering the phone (tried several times, it just keeps ringing.) If you order from here, expect to get your food 3-4 hours after you order, even if they say it'll be ready in 20 minutes. Happy China is the biggest disappointment of my life. I was told by friends that the food was amazing, but the hour long wait ruined it for me. I ordered at the restaurant and placed a carryout order. They told me the wait time was 25 minutes, which seemed reasonable to me. After 45 minutes, I tried to ask about the wait. The lady at the register was extremely rude and blatantly ignored me. After another 15 minutes (totaling at an hour) we finally got our food. The lady pointed at the bag, then me, then walked away. I thanked her and she rolled her eyes and ignored me. I had high hopes for Happy China and am hoping that I just caught them on a bad day. read more

I wish I could give 4.5 stars cuz it was very good but not all the way to 5. :) Really tasty and fresh Chinese food. We were in the Marriott, and they delivered which was AWESOME. I had never ordered via YELP, and I was a little apprehensive. It was a great way to order because I could see all the options and make a nice combo of appetizers and a main dish to share. Yelp sent an email right away with confirmation and direct phone number if there where issues. The chick stick (aka satay, but they call them sticks) had a tasty marinade but was a little over cooked. The egg roll was really delicious and the lemon chicken was yummy. A nice change of pace from hotel food at a very reasonable price. They quoted 45-60 min and it took closer to 90 but it was peak order time and the food was hot when we got it. They also threw in a free app of crab Rangoon (maybe for the delay, not sure) definitely plan to order again when next in town. read more

There are three things by which I judge every Chinese restaurant: their crab rangoons (an example of their frying abilities and stuffings), their egg drop soup (requires a decent broth and exemplifies their abilities with subtle flavors), and their fried rice (somehow restaurants screw this up all the time). I have tried these three dishes from every Chinese restaurant in the Jtown area and Happy China's is by far my favorite. Their egg drop soup is not overly thick, yellow, or salty and has tons of wafer-thin wisps of egg. It is one of the best I've had. Their crab rangoons are fried in clean oil and have a thin, light shell. The filling isn't overly crabby and isn't sweet (I HATE sweet rangoon fillings. It's crab, not dessert) without too much onion. They automatically come with sweet-and-sour sauce, so I don't have to make a special order. Their fried rice is good. It has a decent flavor and the veggies in it are fresh, although they don't put the fried egg in (I'm pretty sure that's illegal) and it could use a bit more soy sauce when it's cooked. But at least it's not dry! I was a bit bummed that it took an hour for my delivery to come, but it came with a free order of crab rangoons, so how can I complain? They also have an easy-to-use online ordering system, which made the wait a bit easier to bear. I highly recommend you try these guys at least once! It's not innovative, but the classics are done well and you definitely get your money's worth. read more

I was hoping for a good take out Chinese food place in Louisville and my fortune cookie confirmed it lol This place is about as good as it gets for Chinese take out. Great food, great quantity and great prices. I had the General Tso combo platter for $6.95! With tax and all you get a generous helping of chicken, rice and an egg roll for under $8!! For this price I wasn't expecting much flavor or quality but Happy China surprised me. I will definitely return and I highly recommend giving this place a try when your hankering for Chinese take out. There are also some eat in tables if you want to sit down. read more

Really wanted Chinese so even though it looked messy I ordered. Lady insisted I didn't want my normal fav at other places,chicken chow mein. Went with the Beef w/broccoli. Left came back 5 minutes later than told. I was ignored. She started putting together orders. When she opened the refrigerator I about vomited. I had to turn and walk out. They can keep that food and the $12. I have no idea how they got an A from the health department but that inspector should be fired. read more

It was 92 degrees outside and the door to the restaurant was wide open, fan was working inside but it felt like a Russian steam room or sauna inside. No sign of air conditioning at all. Had to wait for my order 20 minutes and was sweating profusely. Cashier was handling the money and a cash register, turn around, did not use disposable gloves started handling frozen chicken pieces and putting them in the fryer, same with the egg rolls. I was shocked to see it. Food was ok, nothing special or rave about. Egg rolls were on dry side and tasted like they were empty inside, probably over frozen. I'm not really sure what to expect from Chinese food restaurants such as this, to be honest. Back home in Northern Kentucky we had our go-to place and that's the standard I have that no one else seems to uphold. I have a few friends that live nearby Happy China so this is where they get their delivery and have seemed at least generally pleased. I was craving Chinese and since I was at Half Price Books just down the street, figured I'd swing by Happy China to get some to go. The inside is super small- only about four tables. Obviously they do not plan on people coming in to eat. A couple of kids- I'm assuming of someone who works there- were taking up one of the tables with games, coloring books, etc. They were also pretty loud while we were sitting waiting for our food. The place isn't very clean, either. The windows looked like they could have used a cleaning about a year or three ago. There was only one trashcan and it was the size of one you put under a bathroom sink. The worker who was at the register snapped at me when I reached for a receipt I thought was mine but apparently wasn't. Just kind of an all around odd experience. The food was fine. Cheap for lunch (less than $6) and comes with an egg roll. Actually, the egg roll was my favorite part of the meal. It came with fried rice and there didn't appear to be an option for white rice which I would have preferred. And the General Tso chicken that I ordered wasn't spicy.... at all. If I lived over here I'd probably find myself ordering from here quite a bit since they do delivery. But since I don't, I'll stick to eating probably anywhere else in the area. read more

I would not even give them a half star if I had an option! I ordered through Grub Hub and they took over an hour to deliver my food. I ordered 2 combination platters... One sweet & sour chicken combo with fried rice & egg roll and one beef lo mein combo which I requested spicy with fried rice & egg roll. I also ordered 4 extra pork egg rolls. The egg rolls were okay, just bland. The lo mein looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day long. The meat was dry, tough and rubbery! The noodles looked pitiful, and the rice had hard pieces in it! I tasted a piece of sweet & sour chicken in the sauce as well, (even though I ordered it for hubby when he gets home)... the chicken & sauce are both BLAND! How do you make SWEET & SOUR sauce bland?! OUR DINNER WAS HORRIBLE!!! I contacted Grub Hub, once when they were late, and they showed up a few minutes later... And then after I saw & tasted the food. They contacted Happy China and the restaraunt refused to refund my money!!! The sad thing is that I ordered from here before (which was horrible then too) and forgot which place I didn't like, and ordered again by mistake!!! I knew as soon as I saw the lo mein JUST DONT DO IT! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE... This is not Happy China... It's SAD CHINA. read more
