Schroeder's used to be the local affordable haircut place at Westgate West, but moved after their rent was doubled. They've been there for decades. Around the same time that they moved out, this place moved in. It's similarly priced, around $17 for men's haircuts, and they consistently give great haircuts. SO not sure why I waited so long to come here. My daughters come here and I have someone I typically go to - have been for YEARS! but the last few cuts have been.... odd, off and not flattering. Short feathery top with huge gap to the bottom that was uneven on each side... that did it for me - so based on my kids recommendation - made an appointment with Kim - and she TOTALLY fixed it and my cut IS PERFECT. She explained what she would do - and totally fixed it so now it looks flattering, healthy and normal... will have to go back in a few months to trim the bottom to catch up to the short feathery top but I know it'll look great. Not only did Kim do an OUTSTANDING job with my hair - she also is so friendly and nice. Loved chatting with her and it was very comfortable and casual... Will have to go back for Linda to give me highlights but I think I found a keeper - am SO HAPPY - I feel like a huge part of my confidence is back now that my hair is much more flattering and healthy looking! After being disappointed by several other salons in the area, Kim took me in the same day I called. The haircut I got was only $30 but better than ones that cost $70+. She did exactly what I wanted, curled my hair for free, and was very kind and friendly throughout the process. The place is so clean and the other workers (a female colorist and female+male stylists) have the same attention to detail, which I could tell from watching them work on other clients' hair. I went here a couple months ago to get my bangs cut and some light layering after reading all the fabulous reviews on yelp. I didn't get Linda and unfortunately had to sit through the lady repeatedly asking me whether I comb my hair daily and telling me that she was putting in massive amounts of conditioner but having trouble with my hair the entire time she was cutting my hair. My hair is permed which I mentioned multiple times, and would explain why its harder to comb through. My haircut was fine but there was nothing great about it. If anything I wish it had been layered more. I'd definitely go back, but next time I'll make an appointment with Linda. read more

After reading reviews on yelp I decided to give this place a try and I'm so glad I did! Kim was my hair stylist and she did a wonderful job. She was willing to listen to what I wanted done and did a fabulous job. She took her time and was so sweet and pleasant. She also has over 17 years of experience. I don't do crazy things with my hair and really just need a quick trim a few times a year so I'm glad I found Happy Cuts on Yelp. It's $25 for a women's haircut (might be a bit more if you have super long hair), which is reasonable. Linda cut my hair and she was friendly and did a great job with my cut. I also looove that she cut my hair dry. I find that my haircuts always look better with a dry cut because the hair is being cut exactly how it would fall. My sister and I have been to happy cuts starting a few years back. We get our hair cut by Kim, who is super friendly and genuine. She is quick but does a good job! My haircut only took about 20 minutes and she even curled my hair for a nice finish! What's even better, the haircut only costed 25 dollars. It is usually better to make appointments. I was able to make my appointment a day before. It looks like they may be moving to a new location sometime next year so make sure to check when you make your appointment. And I'm so HAPPY that I did! 20 minutes for a cut and curl for $20. A-MAZING. You don't get the luxurious 10 minute wash and head massage, but we're in a recession, people. I typically get cuts that are 3x as much, but I can do without the fancy shampoo. I've been here a few times and they are usually open until 7pm on weekdays, so it's rather convenient for those that have a regular 9-5 schedule! An additional perk I love is that you don't have to make an appointment and the wait time for walk-ins is not unreasonable ~15 minutes. Once again -- awesome. I went in to see Linda again - this time with a new challenge. I wanted front bangs after YEARS of wearing the side-bang look. I was nervous because I had a horrible experience back in HS but wanted to do something different (plus the look would have completed my Halloween costume). Long story short -- they came out good and I'm loving it! In fact, Linda cut them so that I could push them to the side and wear them as short side-bangs in case I got tired of the front bangs. And of course, Linda is so sweet and we talked throughout the entire time she was cutting my hair which is always better than sitting in awkward silence. Having lived in the San Jose area for the past year and a half, I have yet to find a good hair stylist. That is until now. (Thanks to the Yelp reviews!) I called in advance to see if I had to make an appointment and they said they'll take walk-ins. I was wrapping up some errands for the day before I actually made it to the hair cut. By the time I made it, it had gotten busy. So I just waited and the staff were all very nice. It's Vietnamese owned and they've been here for several years. Careful, there is another hair salon right next door. I didn't pay attention and walked into the other one without thinking. I quickly realized I was in the wrong place and walked out. I ended up with Linda to cut my hair. Linda is amazing. She's really listens to how you want your hair cut and takes time to make it right. She also initiates conversation and is extremely nice. She had some extra time before her next appointment, so she played with my hair and curled it without charging me extra! Linda has been doing a hair stylist for over 20 years. She originally worked from a shop out of Palo Alto but has moved down to Cupertino to help out her sister-in-law run Happy Cuts. Her customers have followed her too. Finding the perfect colorist/stylist is like trying to find a straight, educated, sincere, and passionate man in the bay area. It's DIFFICULT!!! Once you do, you hold on to it! In this case, Linda would be my high school sweetheart. She is great at what she does. I have been going to her for highlights for almost 8 years now. Linda is fast, affordable, and sweet. I have gotten a few haircuts here because of proximity to work. The staff is always friendly and the haircuts thorough. In the morning they usually have 2 people working. I seem to always get the one who also doubles as the phone call taker. In one call the stylist took 14 breaks to answer the phone. She was probably trying to learn. Wanted her to stop, but didn't to avoid hurting her feelings. Haircut came out to be multiple patch work. Took him to a different place to fix it. Good thing I didn't have to worry about tip amount. They decided to not give me change and keep few extra dollars. I probably would have given more than that, but wasn't in complaining mood. I've been going to Linda on and off for the past 4 years. Happy Cuts has always been consistent and I've never left unhappy. Linda is great with coloring and highlights. She's very fast and I always get a lot of compliments on her work. As for hair cuts Linda and the rest of the stylists are good, but not amazing if you're looking for something very modern or edgy-looking. The price is only $17, so you still get a lot for what you pay for. A lot of men go there for hair cuts and seem to like it as well. I've never had to wait long when I go in; I only make an appointment if I get highlights. There are a ton of regulars. All I have to say is this place has been here for a long time because they know what they are doing. They have very loyal customers in many different age brackets. I've had my hair cut and colored many times and left happy. Let me say there is a haircut place beside them that has changes many times over the years because Happy Cuts takes there business because of the quality and customer service they provide. For me it's been the best place to have my hair cut and colored and is the only place I recommend to my friends. To the person that posted the bad review...I don't know what to say. All I can say is I'm sorry that your experience was not like everyone else's here and I don't blame you for posting because that I what yelp is for but all in all the decision to choose the style of cut you want is you. All stylist will push what they believe is the look for you but all in all the choice is yours. I went through the same thing and stuck with my original choice in the color of my hair and not what she proposed. It could have gone either way on your bangs looking good or not looking good. Linda is amazing, in every way! Not only is she affordable ($25 for a woman's haircut!) but she's also good at what she does. I've been going to expensive salons for the last three years, but my frugal Asian sensibilities finally kicked in, which is what inspired me to search for an inexpensive hair stylist. I am super happy with my haircut--just as satisfied as I was when I spent $75 on a haircut, and definitely a lot happier since I saved so much money! I am also in loooooooove with her personality. This review is going to sound exactly like Vivian W.'s, but I don't care enough about maintaining my hair and don't think it's worth the insane prices they charge for a simple cut at a professional salon. I've been coming to Happy Cuts for a few years now, and I love the idea that I now have a reliable hair place just to get a simple trim that I know won't make me embarrassed to wear my hair down for like three months right after. I ALWAYS go to Linda, she's so great at what she does, and she does it quickly. I find that the longer I sit in a salon chair, the higher the chance that someone will screw my hair up, and the more and more hair that gets chopped off = extreme nerves! Linda is surprisingly accurate in cutting just the right amount of hair. No more saying you only want 1 inch cut off and expecting 4 inches! She's so nice and seems to be the triendier one of all of the other employees. I've personally never had my hair cut by anyone else there, but I have no reason to want to switch! $20 and I get my layered hair cut and bangs trimmed.
