It was a Sunday afternoon and the husband and I were doing laundry when I recalled seeing a hair salon and sent him over to ask about a haircut. Maybe 15 minutes later, he was back with a nice cut and a smile in his face. Encouraged, I walked over when the clothes were in the dryer and asked for a cut. I showed her photos of my previous cut and she started her work. She was fast, made light and cheerful conversation, and I was very pleased with the results. I have paid more for haircuts that could not compare. The shop is simple - there are no frills here, but it is clean, there are no smells, and the prices are very reasonable. She advised me they also do color, but that I should call ahead. Based on other reviews and my own experience, I will likely return and give it a try. It is located in a small parking lot, but I always find parking. I typically ask for a basic haircut, just cut off all of the dead ends and trim maybe 2-3 inches. She normally curls my hair and adds oils in it too. My hair always feels and looks so much healthier after going to Mai! In the end, it normally costs $40 for a long hair cut. They charge a 3% fee when you charge with card and they prefer a cash tip. If I remember, I try to bring cash for the haircut + tip! read more

Take your money elsewhere. I've been debating whether to write this review, but I've come to the conclusion that this was the worst haircut I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, Mai was very sweet and complimented me throughout the service, but there were several things I just didn't love. You definitely get what you pay for. I paid $35 for a haircut, which is quite cheap nowadays, but I honestly don't understand how others said they got what they asked for. When I arrived, the salon was empty, and it almost felt like my appointment wasn't really necessary. I still had to wait, and once I sat down, Mai seemed rushed since a walk-in had just come in. My hair wasn't washed which was a first for me, and she immediately started cutting with a razor comb, shedding tons of hair. It didn't seem very professional since there wasn't much sectioning, and I haven't seen a razor comb used that heavily in years. Personally, it doesn't feel like a quality haircut when a stylist relies mostly on that tool instead of scissors. I rarely saw her use scissors, and at one point she even used clippers to shape the ends. The result was choppy, thin, and nothing like what I asked for. I specifically requested curtain bangs and we both agreed on the length of the bangs, but I didn't get either. Now I'll need to go somewhere else to fix the uneven layers and grow out the choppy pieces. At the end, Mai continued to compliment me, saying how pretty I was and how easy my hair was to cut. I have very thick hair and it's definitely not easy. It just felt like she rushed through the service. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. This was my first visit to this salon and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. The stylist did not listen to me at all. I explained multiple times what I wanted, but she kept saying, "I'm just starting this way, I'll fix it later." In the end, she ignored everything I asked for and did whatever she wanted. She also made unnecessary comments like, "I don't do that for anyone," which was completely unprofessional. On top of that, she cut my hair while it was completely dry, even though I specifically said I didn't want that because you can't get an accurate cut that way. I repeated this several times, but she refused to listen. To make matters worse, I only went in for a trim and clearly told her I did not want my hair cut short--just a light cleanup. Despite that, she cut off far more than I asked, leaving my hair much shorter than I wanted. Overall, this experience was very frustrating. I asked for a simple curtain bang trim and ended up with bangs much shorter than what I requested and what we agreed on, with no style or shaping at all. I've been coming here for years for this same basic service and it has always been $10, but I was charged $15 today. I would recommend calling for an appointment at least on the weekend because they do get busy. The salon is clean, well lit, and the people working there are friendly. There's a reason why this place is 10-star worthy when its awarded full 5-star. I normally spend about $180-$250 for a haircut. Today i woke up feeling like a new look but wanted to do something unconventional which was not to go visit any designer stylist as they are often hit and miss. After lunch I was so bluntly brave to march into this what most would call a "super cut" equivalence and the kind lady (Mai-ya) greeted me and asked me what I wanted for my cut. I didn't get a chance to talk or elaborate much (nor did I feel like) and she already began cutting. Line began to queue up after I checked in, she spends about 20 min (30m tops) per customer. Mai understood exactly what I wanted right away, I asked for a little trim and subtle brown highlights for dimension. I was hesitant at first because I didn't want to damage my hair with bleach but they were very attentive and gentle. I've been trying to find a place to get my haircut that is close to my house and wouldn't break the bank and I'm so glad I've found The Expert Cut to not only satisfy those points, but to also provide good results. My yelp search for curtain bangs and layers led me here and I am happy it did. I've been here a few times and have always had Mai cut my hair. They do take walk-ins but note that there may be a wait if there are other customers. I usually call to see if they could take me a certain time, but the one time I did come as a walk-in, I was still out in a little less than an hour. The staff were good about acknowledging they would be with me as soon as they could, which is always something I appreciate. As for the haircut, Mai makes sure to double check that I like the length of my curtain bangs. I usually come in for a trim and get a couple inches off and I appreciate that she listens to that (which I'm grateful for because as a kid I've definitely had several inches more cut off than I asked for, which is not the case with Mai).
