    Donuts & fritters

Happy Donut makes me one happy girl! It was pouring rain outside and the thought of a nicely warmed fritter enticed me. We called ahead to ask if they had any more in their case, and to our surprise, they had three: apple, blueberry, and banana! We quickly made the drive and were greeted with a sweet aroma that filled the air. We decided on the blueberry and banana crumb cake donuts, blueberry fritter, and were lucky enough to try the banana fritter as well. All of them were super duper tasty. My personal favorite was the blueberry fritter since it was my first time having one. We will definitely be back to try other offerings, such as the classic apple fritter and various cronuts. The lady working, Sylvia, was so so kind. We had a nice conversation with her and she informed us that they also operate Rainbow Donuts, which we have visited before and loved. Thank you Sylvia for the wonderful hospitality! :) Come here for some of the best donuts in East Bay!

My job loved the donuts. The variety of toppings. Quality is excellent. No doubt I will return soon

When I've seen the sign for this or any of their numerous locations, I've asked myself the probing question what would make a donut happy. After all, the donut is presumably the victim of a happy donut eater, and it would be mere residue in the digestive tract, wouldn't it? However, I didn't trouble the proprietress of this shop with my rhetorical inquiry. She just wanted to know which dozen I plan to order. It likely disappointed her that I ordered just one, a nice plain $1.35 Ube Donut (photo: https://bit.ly/39zQ3H4) with a small $1.40 cup of coffee (photo: https://bit.ly/3G51xON). It didn't diminish her good humor though. There wasn't any indoor seating, so I took my donut and coffee to the parking lot to imbibe them. That made me a Happy Donut Eater. DONUT - 4 stars...I like ube, not overly sweet AMBIANCE - 3 stars...well, it's a typical shop in the chain SERVICE - 4 stars...the owner was a stitch TOTAL - 4 stars...well, the donuts are happy RELATED - Exploring Albany? I wanted to pickup donuts for some co-workers and found this place on the way with good reviews! Before I came, I called to confirm they were open and that the cost of a dozen donuts was $13. The service is quick, but it's not very friendly. I felt very rushed and it was hard to understand questions because they were getting muffled and spoke so quickly. In the end, I was given a lecture by the employee about not listening, which was not a great way to start the morning haha. I was told at the register that the price for the dozen was $13, but my card ended up being charged $18. I should have checked more closely when I was being rung up, but I wasn't even offered a receipt. The cake donut I tried was nice and moist and my co-workers really enjoyed the donuts, but I'm not sure I would come back here again because of the service.

Coffee is always on point using local grinds, sweets are always solid. The owner is super generous and courteous. Good music btw!!

Maple bacon donut. Couldn't wait lol & the caramel macchiato which was also really good ! Slightly strong but great for a true coffee lover

The service was quick, efficient and friendly, and we ordered the French onion soup to start, and split the fried chicken sandwich and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). Women-owned biz, and they also were on Check Please! Bay Area.

The workers and the owner were all very kind and welcoming. I got there a little after they opened in the morning. As for the food, I ordered the kimchi fried rice along with the chicken and croffle. The fried chicken tasted a bit interesting. I'm not sure if the frying temperature was off or if it had something to do with the condition of the oil, but the texture of the breading wasn't quite right. I used to work at a fried chicken shop in Korea, so it was a texture I recognized--the coating was fully cooked and wasn't necessarily soggy, but there was no real crunch. Instead of being crispy, the breading was soft and kind of gave way when you bit into it. Unfortunately, I couldn't continue eating it. I'd give the chicken a 2/5. As for the kimchi fried rice, I liked the addition of cilantro and beets, which gave it a refreshing touch. My only issue was that the kimchi itself was way too sour for kimchi fried rice. I don't mind fermented or sour kimchi, but in this case, the sourness overpowered the rest of the dish. Overall, the cafe itself is cute and the people working there were genuinely very kind. I just wish the food had been a little better, especially the fried chicken. Will be back next time to try out the coffee!! It is a cafe after all.
