There's a small front lot; it's green spots labeled "2 Hour Parking Only." However, there's nearby, convenient neighborhood parking. Staff is welcoming and attentive. Staff quickly helped me. Staff also works hard. On ambiance, Happy Donut (San Gabriel) is the rare donut spot that had air condition on. The location felt very chill and refreshing. It's clean, and there's several tables. There's also a television that played the news. This spot felt very comfortable and welcoming compared to many other donut businesses. Overall, Happy Donut (San Gabriel) brought sincere joy. Donuts sizes have declined with the new owners. The donuts have shrunk in size by an estimated 20%. Previously cinnamon rolls, apple fritters were large. Now they are the size of what the donuts used to be. In addition their selection has decreased significantly in the later morning suggesting they are not making enough donuts. The stock on hand before would last until mid-afternoon. I'm searching for a new donut place. I've found one but it's in Pasadena so I only go there occasionally. There's been several occasions where staff or family members have brought several donuts from Happy Donut to our facility, allowing me to be able to try an assortment of their donuts. The sugar donut and cinnamon crumb are both always very good, but they have a wide assortment of other donuts that I didn't know they had! Happy Donut is inside the Tea Maru plaza. Parking was super hard to find back when Tea Maru was Sharetea, but now there's a good amount of parking spots due to the stay at home orders. There's also a ton of street parking if the plaza does get too busy. I stopped by before heading into work to grab some donuts for my coworkers and luckily there was a good assortment available despite the many customers. Ended up ordering an assorted dozen and half a dozen where I was able to pick from the more generic donuts. Price was around $11-12 for a dozen and maybe a little more than $5 for six donuts. I was pleasantly surprised they had a blueberry and strawberry glazed donut that tasted pretty delicious. As for the other ones - strawberry, coconut, glazed, etc. everybody liked them. The woman helping me (I believe the owner) was friendly and quick - felt like she was rushing just a tad as she didn't hear my specific requests for certain donuts. This place has definitely improved over the last few years and now, it's one of my favorite go to places for Mom and Pop donut shops around my area. I'm a fan of the $1.25 Chocolate Twist! Fluffy on the outside, sometimes a little crispy around the edges and topped with a good amount of chocolate glaze, yes!!! Even my Supervisor brings donuts from here, and it's pretty good, but generally, my eyes zero in on either the twist or maple bars (gotta be quick in getting those, lol!). The Owner Rose is a sweet lady. I've interacted with her a couple of times for my morning donut runs. Her other Staffers are nice too (but they usually take over the afternoon shifts). Plenty of parking in the smallish lot, and a steady flow of customers, served expeditiously by the kind-hearted gals behind the counter. I'd just finished dinner at the Golden Deli and saw the Happy Donut sign in the next parking lot. I thought I'd check it out and was really glad I did. First of all, I was happy they were still open. It was 8:30pm and they were still open and still had fresh donuts, and a pretty good selection for that late in the day. The donuts are delicious. I highly recommend the glaze twist donut. The bread has a really nice flavor, and it not overly sweet. Very nice texture. If you want to go cake donut, definitely go for the blueberry. It was a cake donut with blueberry frosting. I could eat a dozen of those!! They have seating if you want to eat your delicious donuts on the premises. A half dozen donuts were $4.75. Great deal for great donutes.
