I have mixed feelings about this place. We stay at a nearby hotel often when visiting and love a night in with Chinese food. The first few photos on the Yelp are, of course, fake. Which I believe is truly unfair to consumers. Do not expect it to look like in the pictures. Upon entering, it's actually pretty run down. Their small child was in the front with toys all over the place which threw us off. I guess it's better than leaving the child in the kitchen but after reading past negative reviews I was hesitant to trust the sanitation and cleanliness of this place and this did not ease my concerns. The food was pretty good however. Standard Chinese food, nothing spectacular but not bad by any means. The free thing of white rice was strange considering we ordered chicken fried rice. It went to waste. A more professional and clean appearance would really help this place but we will eat here again and I will update when we do. read more

First time ordering takeout here. Was overwhelmed by the amount of food when I got it home! Hunan chicken, chicken and broccoli, chicken with black bean sauce, egg rolls, chicken wings, chicken noodle soup, and lots of white rice (seems to be a theme here). The order was ready in about 30 minutes and was hot when I got it home. I live like 10 minutes away from the restaurant. Three of us started eating and each enjoyed samples of all the dishes. No, no, no.... there are ants all over when you walk in, the floor is sticky, no trash bag in the trash can, roaches in and all over ther trashcan when you open the lid and even maggots in there. Are you kidding me? I would NOT recommend this place at all! Do not eat here. read more

This is not the same Happy Eatery I grew up with...... My family has been eating from Happy Eatery for over 15 years, since I was in middle school. I order from them a few times a year when I'm in the Dumfries area. I ordered today in anticipation for some good food and was so dissappointed. Everything was tasteless. The shrimp in The Shrimp Basket was smaller than usual and burnt. I immediately knew something was off. So then I ate the shrimp fried rice and was again dissappointed. It was incredibly bland. I came to Yelp to find an explanation and sure enough the change in ownership explains why my food was so awful. I will not be ordering again. Best Chinese delivery I've had in Va! The fried rice is really good it's not dry or old tasting they put bean sprouts and eggs in it which most places don't so that's a plus, they don't skimp on the combo. The General tso is good not soggy like most places, good sauce, and good meat-- some places give u old meat, u can tell bc it's all brown and smells funny. Mongolian beef is really good the meat isn't chewy it's soft and had good flavor; only complaint too much onions ( I love green onions but man there was a lot and even more white onions!) the Hawaiian beef on a stick is good sweet and flavorful.. The egg foo young chicken was good and greasy the gravy tastes better than other places as well. Fried chicken wings are HUGE and good. The pork wontons was also very good. Overall great delivery food, our 2nd time ordering this time and we are not disappointed! This place is a little more pricey in comparison to other Chinese delivery but it's worth it. The first time I ordered from here I was happy with the food (though the curry sauce was spilled throughout the bag). Last night I ordered again and requested fried rice instead of white rice with both my order of beef curry and chicken curry. I also paid $3.00 more for extra chicken. I was very disappointed that the beef curry contained very little meat and was basically just peppers, onions and other vegetables. The chicken had a decent amount of chicken but I did pay the extra for it. Also, today I received a notice that I was charged $2.00 extra for two sides of fried rice, however there was only one side of fried rice that was brought with the order (also there was no extra charge the first time to substitute fried for white rice). Given the lack of meat in the dish for the price I will likely find a new place to order from in the future. read more

Like a lot of people Happy Eatery was my go-to. Especially for egg foo yung. The gravy was awesome! Three months ago I was craving it so decided to give it a shot along with egg drop soup which I remembered was delicious. It had been at least a year since I ordered - probably 18 months or so. I didn't check the order before I left. Ten minutes later I was diving in and was totally dismayed! It was burnt beyond eating. The gravy was still good but the actual dish was uneatable. So was the soup. I called and told them - the response was sorry about that. When you come back we'll give you a free one. And she hung up. Didn't ask for my name or anything. My regular go-to would have immediately sent a replacement. Going back??? I don't think so. When the dish proved to be uneatable, I called my regular go-to and got the dish I was craving! read more

This place use to be amazing; I've been eating here for over 20 years while the place was owned by Mr. & Mrs. Lo. I recently ordered food for delivery & it looked & tasted very different than it normally does. I instantly knew something was off. I looked at my receipt & it said "Lucky China", not Happy Eatery. I called & asked if the place that delivered my food was Happy Eatery, when the woman on the other line said yes I asked her why my receipt said Lucky China. She said that was her company name & she was the new owner. She kept asking me if I liked the food; I didn't want to be rude so I told her it was "different", which really meant awful. She then went on to tell me that the old owners had Spanish cooks (Her words) & that she got rid of them all & hired Chinese cooks, that's why the food tasted different. If you liked the old Happy Eatery this place is certainly not it. The food is not comparable to what it was under the old owners. read more
