Dinner time!!! It seemed a little quiet because there were no one else is dining in but us . However, we noticed most people do take outs . I deducted one star because they were mopping near where we were eating and the smell of the chemical is pretty strong and we have a baby and a kid with us. It still burning through my nostrils even when we left and gave a slight headache. We had to put the kids inside the car , as soon as we were done eating. Although, the lady that helped us was pretty nice and helped us with our to go bag. Also, make sure to double check what you order before paying because, they ended up adding up another sushi order that I didn't want they probably misheard but other than that I just hope they won't start mopping when there is still customer nearby, because the place isn't the biggest so the smell can be trapped in for awhile.

It's an interesting restaurant with a wide variety of food on the menu. I specifically came here for the sushi but I was sadly disappointed, the rice to protein ratio was horrible. The rice was plain and tasteless. They didn't even put any rice vinegar or seasoning to the rice and the protein was very little to barely taste and top it all off, even after ordering almost eight different types of sushis, they only gave me two packs of soy sauce with no chopsticks or cutlery. I don't know about any other thing on the menu, but I would not recommend the sushi here

I stopped in for lunch, wanted to try something different, something Korean, maybe a "soon" (tofu soup). It was a hunch - they feature Chinese and Japanese (but not Korean). But I believe the new owners (as of 2 years ago) are Korean... so I asked. They didn't have "soon", but they have "Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup" for $16.95. I gambled and WON - the best kimchee based soup I've had in a long time, and twice the size of any "soon" I've ever had. It was served with the typical Chinese plastic spoon and chop sticks. The waitress immediately apologized and offered a fork - recognizing most Americans can't use chop sticks, and especially with noodles! I fooled her, "no fork!", I said. After 10-15 spoonfuls of soup, and many pieces of cabbage, the seafood and noodles appeared - oyster, octopus, shrimp, imitation crab (which is fish), and a huge mussel. And beneath, a generous bed of stringed noodles! Oh My God was this a delicious meal! (see the pics below). I reviewed the previous owners and this was an equal 5-Star experience. Try the soup if you have any Korean food memories on your palate!

Barely any teriyaki sauce. Rice was very dry and salad container only filled half way. New standards I guess.

Happy Express: This use to be a good spot for teriyaki. But the last two times I've gotten the chicken teriyaki it was so bland and not good. There was no sauce on the chicken except at the bottom of the container. Normally the chicken is glazed with sauce. The rice was dry and salad container was half full. The prices have gone up which is fine, but to skimp out on quality and normal portioning is not good for business. Anyways, I forgot to take a picture right away since I thought my meal would be fine. It definitely wasn't. I wish the business luck as I don't want anyone to fail. But, I will be going to other teriyaki spots in south Auburn. The prices are higher, but the food and quantity is excellent. EDIT: Pic of my teriyaki wit barely any sauce on it. Only ate some of it. I've never seen such lack of sauce. In some cases they give you a small container of extra sauce.

Under new management, new menu (4/14/23)

As of 4/14/23, it is under new management with a drastically changed menu. They no longer offer sushi (in fact the sushi bar is completely gone) and they have no more beef, only lamb. You can see two business trucks parked outside that show you what the new owners previously specialized in. Prices have also changed.

We love an update!! Happy to report that Happy Express is still doing a phenomenal job of providing fresh, delicious food. I ordered via Yelp today and went with an Ahi Tuna Poké Bowl rather than sushi rolls. So. Satisfied. My order was delivered quickly and easily, can't complain there. You're given the option of greens or rice as the bed of the bowl - I went with rice. Greens, avocado, cucumber, shoyu, and ahi tuna complete the bowl, and then I asked for a side of their spicy mayo to put on top. I can't resist the stuff. Delicious. The whole bowl tasted fresh and was the perfect lunch for a warm Friday afternoon. Run, don't walk, to try out Happy Express! Can't speak highly enough about their delicious food.

I came by here for a quick lunch in the Auburn area and we ordered two of their teriyaki specials - teriyaki chicken & chicken katsu and teriyaki chicken & Mongolian beef. The chicken katsu was very crispy and juicy and was better than their teriyaki chicken, which was a little dry. The Mongolian beef was good but on the sweeter side. At first I was a little upset that even though we were dining in, they served our food in takeout containers and disposable utensils, but it was really convenient when we packed the leftovers to go. We didn't notice their extensive selection of sushi options until after we ordered and noticed an entire separate menu for Japanese options, so we might come back to try those a different time.

The service was quick, food was full of flavor, the location is low key and was not busy, very clean! Leave satisfied EVERY SINGLE TIME

Had to knock it down the 3 stars for completely removing beef from the menu and replacing it with lamb. Very odd for a Teriyaki spot. Indian cuisine sure, but the beef short ribs were why I came here often.

Honey garlic chicken. Used to be amazing, now it's overcooked, not crispy, and underwhelming flavored. A waste of money.

My family used to love this place, however under new management the food has changed. Our favorite dish was honey garlic chicken, it was tender with a crispy outer coating and a sticky sweet honey garlic sauce. Now it is over cooked, not crispy, not sweet and underwhelming flavored. When i told the new owner, he said it was because the previous owner was using dark meat. I told him that i never had it with darkmeat amd he told me that I could believe it or not. He did not offer to remake it, return my money or do anything to "fix" it. So I paid $16 for a dish the was left on the table with only one bite missing. We will NEVER be back. That doesn't even cover the mediocre teriyaki and egg drop soup. Don't waste your money, there are much better choices in Auburn.

Don't eat here if you are Hispanic. They asked my husband to leave for speaking Spanish!! His food was not ready so he sat and his phone rang . He answered it and was talking that's when they asked him to leave . The owner stated he was distracting. My husband turned around to see two other people waiting for their food also on the phone but they were speaking in English and he didn't say anything to them ! Apparently Spanish is distracting lol. Racism at its finest !! read more

Our order was not what we expected? We ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Garlic chicken because we saw the pictures from their online menu and it looked fantastic! Unfortunately when we picked up our order 30 minutes before they closed our order didn't match up to the pictures on the website and other reviews ... the food seemed steamed and microwaved and the fried rice did not taste authentic. On top of that, the smell of the food was absolutely disgusting. We called to let them know of our dissatisfaction and asked why we got something that did not look anything like their photos online to which they responded "we don't have any photos of our food" ... but on Yelp, Uber eats and their google menu clearly they do have photos of food on their menu. They offered a 50% discount next time we order but we will most likely not be returning. I'm super unsatisfied with the bland flavor of the food we spent nearly 40$ on. Interesting place, I nearly drove past this restaurant due to the signage noting sushi, wok & teriyaki figured it was one of those super Americanized Asian places. Since I'm not quite familiar with this area I had no idea where to go and there weren't any noticeable restaurants in the next few blocks so I went back. This place is clean and open, I went for a late weekday lunch and there was nearly no one in the place. I decided on the Kiss of Fire roll which was decent, the jalapeno was cut a bit large and instead of adding much spice, I got more of a green taste in each bite. There are a few other things on the menu I'd like to try so the next time around I won't hesitate to stop in. read more

i got some sushi that wasn't fresh and tasted fishy but when i mentioned it, the employee serving us suggested it was my mistake and did not want to comp my plate and made me pay for a new one even though i didn't eat much of it. i got the salmon teriyaki to replace it but it was also very meh. one of the people with me got served shrimp even after clarifying they have an allergy with no mention of shrimp in their dish on the menu. the 3 others that came with me thought the food was very boring but at least filling. you definitely aren't missing out on the dine in experience either. read more

One of my favorite places to get chicken pad see ew (spicy) They also give you the option (if you go pick up, they are in the middle table) of putting hot sauce, jalapeños and other stuff for some extra spice which I appreciated!! read more

Disclaimer: this was delivery so the in-house experience is likely better. The rolls were ok, nothing special flavor-wise. Cucumbers in the rolls were crisp but the skins were tough. Horseradish "wasabi" was bland. Nigiri was very tasty though, I'll probably stick to that next time. read more

The food here is terrible not to mention EXPENSIVE. We had ours delivered and the delivery was great. There was not one item we ordered that was good. Most of it we ended up throwing away and ordered from someone else! Also they sent the order with no plates, utensils, napkins, or condiments. Not even soy sauce!! Bad place stay away! read more

Three stars. But don't let my personal ratings get in between you and some sweet Asian food. This place does it all, when it comes to Asian food. Raman, tariyaki, sushi, chines wok style, Korean bibimbaps...Anything Asian you can find in a food court, they got them. That's a huge + in options. What I said about sweet Chinese food, I wasn't making an general compliment, I was being literal, the food here are sweet. Some people might like it, if you think grocerary store cakes are not too sweet, then this is a place for you. read more

We have been looking for an unpretentious, value sushi place since moving to the area a few months ago. After exactly two bites, we both knew that we had found it! We ordered a James Bond roll, an Alaskan roll and a California roll. Not only was it good, but the rolls were very large and we had plenty to eat for $33. read more

New Favorite in Auburn/Fed Way!! Went in last week and my family loved everything we had. The kids shared the General Tso (which was huge) and they devoured it. Wife and I got 3 different sushi rolls and we could barely finish them. Awesome Flavors and fresh fish. Lastly, the menu is very reasonably priced. If you want fantastic Teriyaki or Sushi at an amazing price, you need to come here! We'll be back again very soon (probably this week)!! read more

This was my first trip. Everyone including the owner and sushi chef made me feel welcomed. Excellent selection of sushi rolls and nigiri. Not necessarily all of the options you would find at a high-end sushi joint, But still some creative compositions I haven't seen elsewhere that I can't wait to try. Besides I get the impression the chef wants to guarantee freshness and quality on all the sushi options which is a welcome trade-off For not carrying some less Common ingredients. After meeting the chef I can tell that food is a labor of love for him. This restaurant serves "a cut above" Asian Food And service With prices just about the same as your local Generic teriyaki/wok joint. The yellow fin nigiri was very fresh and tasty as well as generously portion. I found most of the condiments offered were made in house. Even the Chinese hot mustard tasted better and milder than what you find just about everywhere else. You could tell the potstickers were homemade. Un-like just about every other Asian restaurant In town, the egg rolls were fresh and not cooked from frozen. Kudos to any restaurant that can do that As well as this place. The crab Rangoon's were disappointingly small but very tasty and had more than the average amount of crab (or imitation crab) in them. The fried shrimp is very tender with excellent breading. Again you can tell, they are fresh And not previously frozen. I can't wait to come back and try the teriyaki and many of the other sushi rolls They offer. They've even got fancy sake if you're into that sort of thing as well as a Separate bar/sushi bar area. I was too hungry and the food look too good for me to Wait to take a picture. I ordered the chicken fried rice and each bite has great flavor! My boyfriend ordered the sweet and sour chicken and teriyaki, and the sweet and sour chicken had a great flavor also! I am extremely impressed with this place. read more

HOLY COW THE ROLLS ARE HUGE!!! Got the Rainbow roll and the fish is fresh and the seaweed they use isnt the cheap ocean tasting stuff. Didn't even touch my chicken and chowmein combo for hours. Very generous portions even with that and awesome staff. If you liked Soo Teriyaki you will love this place. For sure will be back time and time again. My BF chicken and beef combo was fat and a lot of times the combos are stingy on one of the other with the meat combos and they arent. Looking forward to doing years of business with these folks. read more

The folks here make fantastic food, with a great variety and everyone there is so incredibly nice. The atmosphere is great, though at the time of writing this review they're still patching some things up. Ultimately, though, the food and service here is top tier. My Mom and I were looking for a new Sushi place closer to her house and ran into this place on Yelp. Noticed all the great reviews and decided to go. Absolutely the Best in Auburn! We have been to a few others and this place is by far the best. Very fresh Sushi and I believe it depends on what you get here from reading other reviews that weren't great I'd highly recommend trying the Sushi. Very friendly staff and even the Sushi Chef came to our table to ask how we liked our lunch. We got this Lobster tempura fried sushi that was amazing and a roll with unagi on top and another with seared salmon. All of it was flavorful and tasted fresh. We look forward to exploring more of there menu! We will be back soon read more

Wow, I gave them a 4 star before because their yakisoba was not to my liking and the Sushi was only good, but I had their Rainbow Sushi Roll today and it was great! I will definitely keep getting the Rainbow Sushi! And I suggest others try that one too. Yumm sums it up. I just can't say enough good things about the Rainbow Sushi. read more

This place is a GEM!!! Just off the beaten path & Absolutely DELICIOUS! I've been searching for outstanding sushi spot in my area since I moved back home from California... spot FOUND! I've found some other decent spots in the past but nothing great until now! The restaurant is really two in one split down the middle, a typical looking Terriyaki joint on one half with this little sushi bar on the other! Great date spot! Awesome flavors! Clean and comfortable! Friendly and attentive staff/service! Reasonably priced! HUGE special rolls! All ingredients are fresh-fresh-FRESH!!! I will be going back once a week or more! read more

Food was great! Had the Mongolia Beef and Schezwan Chicken, both with fried rice...so good and great portions. House sake was delicious!!! Miso soup also amazing!!! Had the dragon roll, very delicious and filling for two. Restaurant was very clean and the staff was very nice!!! Can't wait to go back. read more

Meh. I was expecting a little more after the reviews I read. They don't bread their own tempura. The shrimp I got was clearly processed. The salad had way too much dressing. The short rib was pretty good and surprisingly enough so was the generic Cali roll. The food came out way too fast which again tells me they have mastered oriental fast food while looking like a restaurant. Genius. Unfortunately not going to eat here anymore. read more

Prolly the best place to get sushi in auburn imo my wife and kids had the teriyaki and they said was "okay" I'll stick to the sushi tho. Ladies are always nice and never give attitude even when I have to pick up orders for DoorDashing so that's always a good thing. read more

I used to be such a fan of this place! Not sure what happened tonight. I ordered my usual, the chicken teriyaki and honey garlic chicken combo. The honey garlic chicken was extremely soggy and flavorless - nothing like before. The sauce on the teriyaki chicken tasted off and there wasn't enough of it. The entire meal was somewhat reminiscent of frozen, microwaved Chinese food. I don't think I'll be returning. Bummer. read more

BEST SUSHI EVER!!! The rice, the fish and the presentation was all amazing and so fresh. The waitresses are so sweet and treat you great! The restaurant is exceptionally clean and well organized. If you are in the area and even if you aren't, this is the number one place to go. read more

Really great restaurant. I had their teriyaki chicken and Mongolian beef combo and had them make them spicy. Was a slight upchatge but worth it. Some of the best Mongolian beef I've had. I've had better at one other place but this stuff is legit as hell. They have a cool sushi bar looking area, I just picked up my food so didnt get a chance to check it out but want to come back and sit in their sushi bar area. Looked really good. Will definitely be coming back for more! Great new restaurant! read more

If you're planning to eat here, I'd expect to spend at least around $25 per person before drinks and tax.

We ordered a medium-well/well-done ribeye and it came super bloody/medium-rare. Here is the Play-By-Play of our experience: Omg! Their dinner bread is so freaking amazing--I actually dream about it, and the bacon appetizer is to die for! I had some fancy strawberry mocktail. It was delish! The only letdown was the ribeye steak, which was super unfortunate since that's exactly what we went for. I took my sister there for her birthday, and the staff was incredibly kind. They walked us through the menu, gave her a customized birthday card, and brought out a complimentary dessert. It was a very sweet gesture, and all of our side dishes were completely delicious. The only issue--and it's a huge one--was the steak. We wanted to share a steak because we were ordering so many sides and appetizers. My sister hates pink meat because it looks like blood to her, whereas I love medium-rare. I was totally willing to take one for the team for her birthday, so we explicitly explained to our server that we needed it cooked somewhere between medium-well and well-done (light brown all the way through). The server also talked us out of the dry-aged option, and I convinced my sister to get a ribeye instead of a New York strip for the rich, marbled flavor. When the steak arrived, it looked pink from the melted butter on top, so I tried to hide it from her. But once we cut it open, the entire thing was a perfect medium-rare. Great for me, but definitely not what we ordered! My sister didn't want to complain because the staff was so sweet, but this is a steakhouse--getting the temperature right is a big deal. It's like ordering an iced coffee and getting it steaming hot; it's just wrong. I showed the server that it was completely pink in the middle, and she offered to cook it more. We all know sending a cut steak back ruins the meat, but I hoped my sister could at least eat some of it. When it came back, it was in a weird state--gray on the inside with a bright red skin on the outside, likely from being nuked in a microwave or thrown under a broiler. Worse yet, the center of both halves was *still* raw and pink and kind of gray... I pointed it out again, but nothing came of it. We didn't even get a discount or an offer to try again another time, which sucked for our first visit. In hindsight, the kitchen didn't let the steak rest because all the juices immediately pooled on the table when we first cut it. I love a juicy ribeye, but this was the exact thing that grosses my sister out. She took a leap of faith trusting me and the steakhouse, and now she'll probably never let me pick the meat options again, lol. While our server took great care of us, the free birthday dessert is standard policy for anyone celebrating-- They didn't give us any sort of accommodation for the inedible $100 steak. Which was super disappointing because it would have made our experience easier to digest. The bread was fabulous, the bacon was to die for, the sides were amazing, and the mocktails were as fancy as ever! I might give them one more shot to see if the kitchen was just having an off night. If the steak still fails, I'll just go back strictly for the dinner rolls! It was just disappointing because everything else, including my mocktail, was absolutely fabulous. You'd think if they mastered all of that, they could handle a classic ribeye.‍ I haven't been back yet. I tried to go recently with my husband while staying at the hotel, but he wasn't feeling well. Since they don't do to-go orders, we couldn't eat there at all.

Called twice to order and no answer believe it or not they called me back to take my order they initially said they couldn't deliver due to the icy weather. So I decided to pick up and placed my order. When I went to leave I couldn't get out due to the ice in the parking lot of the apartment where I was staying, I called them back and told them that I wasn't able to get out and had slipped up on the ice. They then volunteered to bring it to me since I was unable to get out. That in an of itself earns 5 stars. The food as you can see from the pictures is quite a lot of food and it was very tasty. The sesame chicken was flavorful and the fried rice had a good taste, not salty. The steamed broccoli was perfectly steamed.
