Sushi Kuma is easily the best sushi restaurant in the area. While our all-time favorite is Sushi Kashiba, Sushi Kuma is truly a head above the rest in South King County. It's a small, quaint restaurant with great ambiance and beautiful, unique presentation. I came with my daughter, but this is not a place for young kids--this spot is about the experience. Seating is limited, and that's intentional: quality over quantity in every way. For anyone complaining about price--respectfully, you're wrong. This isn't Trapper's or a basic sushi spot. The fish quality is excellent, the execution is thoughtful, and the service was great in my experience. If this restaurant were in Seattle or Bellevue, the prices would absolutely be higher for sushi of this caliber. Also, if you're asking for discounts, free items, or happy-hour pricing when it's not happy hour... come on. If you want high-quality sushi at a fair price, this is the place. Every penny was worth it. What we ordered: * 20 pieces of nigiri * 1 roll * 2 soft drinks * Yellowtail, maguro, otoro, chutoro, and white king salmon Pro tip: don't go out for great sushi on a tiny budget. They have a wide assortment of food and drinks, including imported Japanese drinks and a wide variety of sake. Even the bathrooms are nice, with heated seats and their own little fake tree. Best sushi I have ever had. Visited on a Friday night and it was busy, but we had one table readily available for us. The rest who came in afterwards had to sit up by the chef. It was pretty pricey, but tasted phenomenal for the price. Ordered the Scallop Lover ($28) and the Surf & Turf ($28). Love the presentation and it was our own favorites. Service was great. First time coming here. The outside isn't very inviting and we weren't sure if it was actually open or not. The inside is very nice though and the bathrooms are clean, and are also nice. We were the only ones there as it was about 3pm on a Sunday. We ordered gyoza and the spicy tuna tacos. The gyoza was good but the tacos were better. Not a huge fan of the tobiko on top. We tried the blue fin toro roll, Kuma roll , and spicy tuna roll + shishito peppers - they were so good and the presentation was really nice. That being said, it is odd to order a Sprite with your $150 meal and get handed a can of sprite for $3. Unexpected, cheap, and kind of detracted from the ambiance/high cost in my opinion. I can't remember ever paying that much for dinner and not having fountain beverages or refills. A minor critique, but as a person that eats my fair share of pricey meals I could not stop thinking about the cost of things which, in my opinion, means it is perhaps not worth the price tag. Screaming, crying, throwing up still thinking about the dinner from Sushi Kuma. Believe the hype - this spot is officially up there with one of my favorite sushi spots. And in BONNEY LAKE no less?! I saw some photos from Sushi Kuma on my activity feed and the way they present their dishes was enough for me to come in. It's so beautiful and more than ready for your Instagram foodie photos. It's in an unassuming strip mall type of place, so there's lots of parking. We came on a Thursday night and we were the ONLY diners the entire time (y'all, please get in here and change that!) I wish they were busier, but glad we were able to seat with no issue because it is on the smaller side. We got the gyoza, California Roll, and the Baked Lobster Roll. Our order also came with complimentary miso soup which was super good! The gyoza was also tasty. The California Roll was made in a different way than I've ever had, but I was a fan - the inside was stuffed with avocado and cucumber, and then the TOP was packed with fresh, delicious crab. The Baked Lobster Roll absolutely stole the show, being served still on fire and torching the roll. It was packed full of lobster and my boyfriend is now calling it the "best sushi he has ever had" which I can just about agree with. It was AMAZING and worth the splurge! The only downfall was the service was a little lackluster. There was a newer waitress training and whoever her trainer was seemed really annoyed to have us there that evening but the food and atmosphere made up for her making us feel a tad unwelcome at times - it was the end of the evening, so maybe we just came at a bad time! Their rolls are upwards of $20-30, which is definitely above most places around. Theirs is still better because it comes with sea urchin, hence the price. Kuma uses real crab in their rolls and every fish we tried melted in your mouth. Fish to rice ratio was exactly right and the chefs were so chatty and approachable. They gifted us some yuzu ice cream and we were honestly blown away at the tangy and fresh flavor. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was too much to ignore. Our visit started with a wrong order, which can happen, but the service quickly crossed the line from careless to downright hostile. When my 1 year old niece reached for a straw, a server actually swatted her hand away. Another server then spent the rest of our meal staring at us from behind the counter, making "hush" gestures at my niece. Mistakes are one thing, but treating customers, especially kids with that kind of disrespect is unacceptable. After our meal we had another group of customers come up to us outside and say "Did that lady really shush you guys, I thought I heard it wrong I can't believe that". When we made the reservation, were not told that we had a time limit and said we'd be allowed to bring a cake. We stayed for 1 hour and 15 minutes total. From the beginning, the waitress kept looking at her watch and interrupting conversation to ask if we knew our order and asked if we were done eating. We rushed through our food and asked for our cake. She asked if we wanted to eat it there. We got the hint, we weren't wanted anymore. We sang happy birthday, put the cake back in the box, and went to one of our homes to eat the cake. I can't believe how rushed from the beginning we were and we weren't even there for long.
