Since my move to Boston I've been looking for a Happy Feet massage place similar to the one i went to in California (also called happy feet). It's usually very cheap, you keep your clothes on, soak your feet in warm water and they massage your entire body. So i was very excited to come across their Groupon recently in Boston. Previous locations that I've been to, the chairs completely recline and you lie down the entire time, so i was a little disappointed to have to sit upright on an ottoman for my full body massage at the location in Boston. Overall though, its a relaxing atmosphere, there's tea and some cut up oranges. Communication is a bit rough as it appears staff doesnt speak a lot of English. I've been meaning to try this place out for some time now. Today was the day! My husband and I just last night made a plan to do some dim sum and I thought hey, let's try Happy Feet after our feast! Man, are we both glad we did. For $45 each, he and I received one hour massages (we had the same deal as others have mentioned on here: about 20 minutes of upper body, then the longest foot and leg massages that either of us have ever had) side by side. Unreal. The two therapists took us both promptly at our appointment times. Offered us the oranges and tea or water and the next thing you know, we're both suddenly turned into limp biscuits. While on vacation, we walked a million miles and badly needed a foot massage. This shop, at the edge of Boston's Chinatown (near the entrance of the red gate) is next to a corner furniture store. Once inside, the shop is clean. The massage is a combination of a foot & back massage. At the start of the massage, they bring a bucket (lined with a clean plastic bag) with hot water and as you soak your feet, they start with a head and neck massage, then move to your feet and legs then finally, you flip onto your stomach (face in cradle) and the second half of the massage is your shoulders and back. The special padded recliner chair is comfortable. We did 1.5 hour massages, 2 days in a row!!! Highly recommend that you call first to set an appointment because the shop is non-stop busy. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I found it on yelp when looking for something different for a rainy Saturday. I used to work in the Leather District so was familiar with the location. It didn't have the sketch Chinatown massage factor so I thought we'd give it a shot. We made an appt. for a Saturday afternoon. The lady on the phone was very nice and easy to get information from. I arrived with my boyfriend a few minutes early and she had us sit down in the couples room and then hung our coats. They were tending to a large girls day out party and apologized they needed more time to finish them up but brought us complimentary drinks and a fresh cut orange. After the large party left a few minutes later, they brought in the little Japanese wooden tubs for the foot soak. The water was the perfect temp. There was a sachet of herbs in the water. Then then closed the privacy curtain and started the head, neck and back massage during the foot soak. The massage was hardcore. The girl I had gave deep pressure. I was even sore the next day. It involved techniques of chopping with the hands and rotating joints by stretching them to their limit. The massage was a good 15 minutes. After that the tubs were removed and we sat back in the big comfy chairs for the reflexology which lasted almost an hour. It was amazing. I think I melted in the chair. Any stress didn't matter. It was all taken away. They worked primarily on the feet but went up to your knees at times. They used lotion as needed which made them able to reach deeper in your skin. My boyfriend looked over at one time and whispered "This is Amazing!". At the end they took a hot towel and wiped my feet down then draped a towel over me. Ahhhhhhhhh. Soft music played the whole time. It was distracting at one point mid massage when some of the other therapists were talking loudly in another room, then one of our therapists mentioned to quiet down which brought the atmosphere back to peaceful. This service was extremely affordable. 70 minutes of hardcore bodywork is priced at only $40! The lady gave us a card to stamp and get a 10th visit free. The place is not an upscale spa but is clean and modern. They are able to offer you a great deal without the frilly extras. They are also flexible with your time in those 70 minutes. They can focus on whatever you want. They do lie down massages also which can be incorporated into the price. This is a nice way to spend time with someone special for a good price or just treat yourself alone or with friends. Will be enjoyed by all! read more

Alright, I'm very confused fellow Yelpians. I read the reviews and was very excited to give this place a try. I've never had a massage before and I sit at a desk all day so I was simply looking for some relaxation and to work out the kinks I've acquired from a cubicle life. This was exactly what I wanted, fully clothed, no frills, so I went for it on a weekend afternoon. The place was pretty empty but had there been more people the set up would have been more awkward. Chairs very close together divided by small hanging curtains. It was definitely no frills, which was totally fine. As I said this was my first massage. I was brought to the back by an older woman who seated me and asked what I'd like to drink--thats the last time she said anything She instructed me to sit on the stool and she walked away to get something then before I knew it she was behind me digging her elbow in my back. No warning, nothing just right to work. She worked mostly my back and there were parts when I had tears in my eyes. She would do something to one side and I regretted that shortly she would be doing the same to my other side. Overall, what she did to my back was very painful. I know this is a very simple massage, but she never said one thing the ENTIRE time. I think asking "is the pressure okay" is a reasonable request. Had she done so I would have winced my request to go lighter. The work aside from back was relaxing. The head, hands and arm was far to quick though and believe it or not she was lacking pressure during those parts. I think it was because she was going so fast. The foot massage part was nice, but I can't say it was true reflexology. She was mostly just driving her knuckles into different portions of my feet--nice nonetheless. Towards the end there was a lot of punching with a full fist. At which point I just wanted to go home. If i wanted to get beat up and regret my life decisions, I'd prefer to be drunk and at bar. One very odd note another Yelper also said---the other guy who worked there was coughing up phlegm the WHOLE time. There are two bathrooms very close to where the massage chairs are and you can hear everything going on in there. Multiple times he went in there and you could hear him coughing and spitting. So incredibly gross. I almost had to laugh it was so awkward. I felt EXACTLY the same leaving as I did walking in. Only difference is, I was upset I had just dropped $70 for nothing. I woke up the next day incredibly stiff and sore. I also have a welt and bruise on my forearm--battle wound I like to think. Three days have passed and I'm still sore and not feeling any benefit. Maybe I'm too new to massages to appreciate what I experienced. Maybe I should have just gone for 30 mins. Either way, I'm not going back. read more

I left here this afternoon as a puddle. Seriously, one hour at Happy Feet and I felt like a different person. It was amazing. I did the one hour massage, which is very reasonably priced at $60. I called ahead just in case, but I could have walked in (this was a Wednesday afternoon). The masseuse gave me a drink menu and I got a tea, and then he brought over a cut-up orange. The massage was basically 2 parts, and you're fully clothed: the first part is your neck, back, and arms, and I was sitting on this backless stool thing for it. That was a semi-uncomfortable position, but what the masseuse was doing made it totally worthwhile. Then I moved to a chair and he did my feet and lower legs, which was incredible. I don't know anything about reflexology, but man, it felt awesome. I kept almost passing out. I've gotten massages for a lot more money that didn't leave me feeling as completely relaxed and worked out than I did at Happy Feet. They really get in there hard, which I needed. And because it's in the downtown area and there's no changing of clothes involved, it's a perfect lunch break escape from work when you need to de-stress. I had a wonderful experience at this spa. I was running late due to the fact that I couldn't find parking nearby so I called them and they assured me that it would be no problem. With all the good reviews this place has gotten, I decided to purchase a Bloomspot deal for the hubby and I to try this place out. Our feet are thankful we did! We went to the Boston location which is really easy to find - street parking is available (but on busy days, parking can be difficult to find) for those driving and for those taking the T, its about 2 blocks away from South Station. The masseuses are all Chinese and they speak little English but really you're not going there to talk so I don't know why that would pose an issue. They know enough to be able to provide great service - book appointments correctly, can understand if pressure is too light or too heavy, and process payments. ( In fact, sometimes I find this is challenging for native English speakers! ha!) Anyways, back to my review on the service. The husband and I both got 1 hour foot massages so they sat us next to each other. They start by having you soak your feet in a tub (lined with plastic bag for sanitation so no need for the germaphobes to worry) of chinese herbs. While your achy feet get a nice soak, the masseuses start working on your neck and back. A wonderful surprise because I thought this was just going to be a foot massage. After they finish stretching you out a bit, they proceed to a full foot reflexology massage. The pressure was just right and it was so relaxing I almost dozed off. TIP: This place is also a wonderful alternative for those who don't like full body massages where you need to undress. We were fully clothed for both the body and foot massage. These people really understand that you have to address more than just one body part. The atmosphere is relaxing & serene. The guy that greeted us was friendly and funny. They don't let language barrier interfere with customer service (other places in & around chinatown could learn from Happy Feet). The massage was great. We both work alot, my BF does manual labor & is a rock climber, so it was a pleasure that they hit all the right spots. Both of us will come again & bring friends. If you are looking for a heavenly place for a part upper body massage and reflexology, this is the place!!! It is truly relaxing, peaceful and very quiet. The person that I see there is Lang. He is the best. He knows his anatomy as far as muscle groups as well as how to get the blood to really circulate. He is a professional and I have been to several establishments but have never had the type of massage that he performs. Take some time for yourself. This is a great affordable way to get a deep tissue neck and shoulder massage along with a reflexology foot massage. The staff are all very sweet and friendly. You start off with your feet soaking in a lovely herbal scented wooden tub while they massage your head, neck, shoulders, upper back and arms. Then you sit back and relax with your green tea and orange wedges, while you get your foot massage. It really feels more like a medical treatment with the work on the pressure points on your feet. Its supper relaxing and you just feel like you did something really good for your body and spirit. Came here last night with two of my lovely friends. I had an idea of what to expect, but the experience was still a bit different than I imagined. First, it's very relaxing in there, even with the chatter of my friends and I and the staff. The massage was great, but kind of painful in some spots! The woman doing the massage said I must work at a computer as she was rubbing relentlessly into my arm muscles and I was like "I know, I'm sorry! Ow!" They worked my head, neck, shoulders, arms, back, lower back and then to my foot. The night I got my foot massage, I pretty much passed out on my bed at 9:30pm. First, I must say that this is not a "fancy spa"- hell, for $40 dollars I would have expected a lot less than what they offer. You are in a room with maybe three other people (depending on the time of day), so if they're talkative you might not be as relaxed. On the other hand, if you go with friends, it would be a fun bonding experience. For about 10 minutes of my massage, I heard a bunch of "Oooing" and "Ahhing" from the group of 3 next to me. This is NOT just a foot massage. She starts off with the head, neck shoulders, back, then later moves down to the legs and feet. This is a DEEP tissue type massage. This tiny girl was super strong. At some points you might wonder why you've subjected yourself to this, but by the time you finish that thought she's on to the next point and you realize your body will thank you later. My last few minutes of the massage were as high quality as the first few minutes. The women in the shop that I interacted with were extremely courteous and grateful for the service. Wonderful-- similar to what you would find at a HK reflexology joint and with more privacy. !! I go here for a reasonably price hour-long session every time I go to dim sum. They sometimes don't have availability if you just walk in on the weekend, but sometimes you get lucky. I try to make an appt before just in case. The therapists are all excellent -- they start you off with a foot soak while they massage your neck and shoulders for ~15 minutes. This also includes some great shoulder stretches, similar to a Thai style. The rest of the time is devoted to your feet and lower legs. Oh happy day! Went here to get a few knots out of my neck and get some spring back in my step. These little Chinese women pack some power in their fingers. Massage was AWESOME. I caught myself moaning at one point. (oops) Minus one star for having to circle the block 3 times to find parking. (hence another knot in my neck). The language barrier was a problem. I wanted the masseuse to work especially on my heels, but just pointing and frowning wasn't doing the trick. I think she stayed away from my heels because she didn't know what I was talking about. I got a deal for a 2 hour reflexology and massage session. Warning: They speak very little, if any, English. They soak your feet in a tea bath while your head, neck and back are massaged. Then, you lie back in a chair and your feet and legs are massaged.You are offered water, tea or soda and some fruit while you are sitting in the chair getting massaged. It was a really amazing massage, all around. I have to admit, my legs did get quite stiff when I was sitting in that chair for an hour with them outstretched. Not the best position for that. One star off for communication problems and the fact that the guy doing my massage was coughing and hacking up phlegm the entire time. I have no idea if he washed his hands, but it seemed quite unsanitary to me. My husband and I were visiting from out town and it was pouring rain on a Sunday so we came in for an hour massage. They give you a bottle of water and sliced oranges which was refreshing. They put your feet in a warm tub of water and massage your shoulders, neck, head and back while you sit up. Then they dry off your feet and you sit back in your chair with your feet propped up. They massage your feet and legs. I fell asleep for a second it felt so good. My therapists name was Annie. Ask for her! She has strong hands and did a really good job. The reason for the 4 stars is because we asked for 2 female therapists and my husband got a male. In the end it was fine because my husband said his therapist did a really good job! His name was Leo and he did all the pressure points. Ask for him too! Another reason for the 4 stars is because a lady and a man that worked there were SO LOUD, like it woke me up! New spot in the Leather District - just off Beach Street. They're still working out the kinks, but trying really hard to do it right. The staff is SUPER friendly and sweet, the prices are low (special of $32 for an hour until the end of October!!) and the space is comfy & quiet. You start sitting up with your feet in a bucket of hot water & herbs while getting a head, neck, back & arm massage - really nice! They then have you lay back on a comfy armchair while working on your feet. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate & other drinks are offered & included in the price. It is highly comforting & enjoyable - although I would hesitate to call it truly 'reflexology,' hence 3 stars rather than more. I've been twice now and it just isn't as precise or 'hardcore' as what I've had at places in the past. On the other hand, it was a darn good foot rub and I walked out both times relaxed and feeling good. So as long as that's what you're expecting, you'll LOVE it! read more

I have no idea how they do it but it is THE best massage experience. I have gone now about four times, each with a different therapist (masseuse?) and each time has been beyond fantastic. The bottom line: * It's not private but you are clothed at all times * They spend about 20 minutes on your back/neck/arms while you sit on (what is basically) an ottoman with your feet soaking -- * 20 minutes of this massage is better than a lot of hour long massages I have had * Then you lean back in a chair, snuggle under a towel, sip some tea or water while your legs and feet are masterfully massaged * You know how all of the massage places tell you to drink plenty of liquids after the massage? Well for this one it's a must! When it's all over you feel great and your back is as muscularly loose as a child's.
