Happy Fishman is a Cantonese seafood restaurant in Markham. They're known for their menu of fresh lobster, fish, crab, prawns, shrimp, squid, scallop, oyster, sea cucumber, razor clams, snails, golden fish rolls and other seafood. While shopping nearby we decided to get a bite to eat here. Happy Fishman was on my list of restaurants to go to so we came here to order a set meal. We were impressed by how quickly the food was prepared. Service was attentive and efficient. They brought teas to the table and a soup (hum choy tong) which was very good. The noodles (e-fu) were cooked just right and very flavourful. This contrasted well with the braised tofu and fish with gravy on rice. The dishes worked together to balance out the flavours. The HK milk tea was smooth, creamy and sweetened to my taste. Everything was excellent. We will definitely be coming back again soon. read more

Cannot go wrong with their amazing value lunch combo for $11 or $12. There are a ton of dishes to choose from so there is something for everyone. The lunch combo comes with a drink (add $1.50 for an iced beverage), soup, and great portion entree. I ordered the beef brisket noodle soup and my boyfriend got the beef curry on rice. I was astounded by the portion of the beef curry - and it was super delicious! The noodle soup was good, it mainly took the flavour of the egg noodles, but I was happy with it. The beef was mainly beef tendon rather than actual meat, but for the price I wouldn't expect anything else. The iced HK milk tea was refreshing and they put it in a to-go cup which was very convenient. I will say that the service isn't great but it did the job. Before tip but after tax, it was $30 - which is really great for the amount of food we got (considering it was a drink, soup and entree for two). They take credit over $20. read more

Heard that this place has affordable chinese food so gave it a try. Slightly cheaper but also smaller portions and quality is slightly below average. Most recently we tried the stir fried seafood rice noodles which was bland and the squid was so overcooked I almost choked on it when I couldn't bite through it. The beef with Chinese broccoli was ok. The sweet and sour pork with fried milk had too thick of a coating on the pork, and the fried milk had a dry breadcrumb coating and little flavour inside. Servers are also overbearing and at least 3 different ones came to push some kind of set menu or dishes. Space feels a bit cramped. read more

Affordable Chinese food for bigger groups - this place has a wide variety of options to choose from. Overall my experience at the restaurant was positive - the servers let us know what the special dish of the day was and made recommendations but was not pushy about getting it. Daily soup 霸王花蘿蔔例湯 was good but first pot there was only one piece of 霸王花. Second refill there were 2 pieces of 蘿蔔. The noodle dishes were kind of bland 清清地. For me it's okay cause I like things not too salty but perhaps for average people they may want more flavour. The Maggie sauce fish bone 美極魚骨腩 was good. Crispy, hot and flavorful. Also had the fish head. 粉絲蒜蓉蒸龍蝦球 Garlic vermicelli steamed lobster was good. The flavouring was good but the vermicelli could be softer. The little pieces of lobsters were good for lunch size. The fish congee felt like just plain congee topped with fish and not boiled in it. Could maybe boil longer with fish. 白粥加魚片. Same with the lobster congee, taste like they just topped the congee with lobster. There was a generous amount of fish and lobster pieces though. The congee texture was pretty good. However, we did not get deep fried dough sticks油條. I only remembered it after I left so I didn't ask them. ~ Drinks ~ The drinks were made by Foodie Boy who also had a store upstairs of Pacific Mall before the fire happened. When we arrived here for dinner the place was pretty busy, but we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table. After we ordered our food was brought to us pretty quickly as well. The first thing we got was the HK Style Milk Tea and we really enjoyed it! The first entree we tried was the Seafood Fried Taiwanese Vermicelli. I'm usually a big fan of vermicelli dishes and this was no exception. The noodles had tons of flavour and they gave a good amount of shrimp and squid. Next we tried the sweet and sour pork and we loved it! The pork was delicious and the peppers and pineapple were nice too. The sweet and sour sauce was really tasty and not too overpowering. The last dish to arrive with the BBQ Duck With Rice and it was probably my favourite. The duck was amazing and the skin was really crispy. The Chinese broccoli was refreshing and complemented the duck very well. We were glad we got so much rice and ended up eating it with the sweet and sour pork as well. Overall we had a great experience here and will probably be back some day. The service was pretty good and they didn't seem to mind bringing me an extra set of chopsticks when I accidentally dropped mine. The food here is cheap and tasty. I have been here for dinner and lunch and both times I come food is great. The lunch here is approximately $12 bucks for a noodle and drink with plenty of options I get the beef brisket with crispy noodles or the efu noodles or rice noodle in black bean sauce and pair it with a lemon tea. For dinner their lobster combos are great and super affordable and lost of choices for the dishes to make it a combo. The service is hit or miss tho as the servers can be super attentive or they don't care as much depends on their mood of that day. If I could give zero stars, I actually might. We're just trying to have a good family dinner and noticed this place had good rating. Maybe we happen to come on a rough night for them. So first, black pepper pork belly soup. You kinda expect the gamey flavor, but this was like.... Unwashed.. it tastes like freaking unwashed innards. We've had this dish many places and this has to be the worst. The rest of dinner was meh, until we got to the beef. It was raw. Like fully and undeniably raw. She told us that's how rare looks. First time at this recently opened restaurant for a family dinner, it was very disappointing. The ambiance is okay, but the service was pretty bad, especially this one lady who was loud and rude. We ordered 7 dishes, and somehow everything was bad, except for their chicken. The Pepper Pork Belly Soup was exceptionally terrible, it was very salty and it smelled horrible, don't think they washed the pork belly at all. Ordered their "famous" milk tea as well, but didn't get to try it as we had to wait more than 30mins and it was still not ready, so we cancelled it, we just wanted to leave. Not sure if it was just an off night, or if their chef wasn't there tonight, but it was a really bad experience. Service is pretty slow. Not as far as some other places. Make sure to reserve a spot or else you will end up waiting a long time. Even if you reserve, you still have to wait for a period of time. First time at this relatively new restaurant. The interior is modern and relatively clean. The service is pretty good for a Chinese restaurant (IMO). We opted for their lunch specials which are offered from 11am to 3pm. I ordered L11 Chicken with Ginger Onion on Rice, $7.99 (comes with house soup). They say the chicken is free-run chicken. For the price, it is a great deal to get a massive plate of white rice, some vegetables and some protein (eating relatively nutritious and on a budget at a restaurant - can't ask for more). The chicken is cooked through, very tender and based on the size, appears to be free-run chicken. Non English speaking waitresses is a turn off on the first part. The layout of the restaurant is cramped up as well. Just waiting on two dishes. Seems to take forever. The services level during our visit exceeded many higher end Chinese restaurants. We ordered the lobster combo for 4. I think the portion could feed 5. So gauge how much you order. Lobsters were in season, so the lobster was fat and delicious. (BTW we chose to cook it with ginger and onion. As ours appeared to be the only table that ordered it cooked this way, the kitchen cooked it especially for us.). The other memorable dish was the fish in pickled vegetables pot. Quick service, everything we ordered came within about 20 minutes of ordering. Servers were very friendly (if you speak cantonese) . The food was okay, nothing special but not bad tasting either. The portion sizes were a bit in the smaller side. The store is very small. Unless you come early you will either have to reserve in advance or wait for at least an hour. First time trying this fairly new restaurant and it went well. We tried one of their lobster combos and added a few more dishes.
