Your standard Chinese seafood restaurant located in Richmond Hill at Bayview and Weldrick. Space is not huge and the interior looks like it's been renovated with seafood tanks lining two walls but the dishes on the tables look older. They have some good combo dinner specials starting at 148 and up. They come with one main item and then you can choose additional dishes from the list. We went with the one that came with a steamed green bass and we then we chose 4 additional dishes from the list. You can add a Peking Duck for an additional 19.99 if you spend a minimum of 49.90. The special is available all week including weekends and is only available for dine in and dinner. In general the dishes were well prepared. The duck was sliced well and the crepes were nice and thin. The remainder meat and bones were cut really well, usually you just get a mass of bones with bits of meat attached but our plate was well presented. Only real complaint was the rice. We ordered 2 bowls to share and it was dry and hard. They clearly did not add enough water for the cooking process. Service was decent with a plate change mid meal. We visited a Chinese and seafood restaurant recently for lunch, and tried their roasted duck set along with some dim sum. The restaurant currently offers a 20% discount on dim sum, which is a great deal. The roasted duck was tasty, and they sliced the duck in front of you, which is great. but I found that it came with too few side dishes. If you wanted to add more sides, you'd have to pay extra, which felt a bit limiting. Despite that, the meal was enjoyable, and the dim sum was fresh and flavorful. Overall, I'd give the experience a solid 4 out of 5. It was a good meal, but the extra charges for adding side dishes did hold it back slightly. Booked their largest private room for a party of 30+ people and the experience was amazing! I went to check out their space in advance to make sure it was big enough/ what I wanted. Their private room has a karaoke that you can request for and it fit three large tables with a smaller table of the side for them to put their plates/ utensils/ cake, etc. Service was also great, with the servers being very on top of all things! Now onto the food. It was absolutely amazing! I ordered a set menu per table in advance and paid a deposit and the food did not disappoint at all. It's your traditional Chinese coursed meals that comes with lobster, suckling pig, crab, fish, chicken, rice and veggies. Some highlights: Abalone mushroom snow peas 5/5 - Perfect sauce that went with the ingredients. The abalone was chewy and cooked perfectly. You're able to add additional abalone so each person gets one (since I had more than ten people per table) Suckling pig 5/5 - Crispy, tender and delicious. This is a pre order item for sure, since they need to allocate for this. Double lobster 5/5 - Came in a huge mountain of lobster per table. Meaty and fried to perfection. Duck 5/5 - This was an added item I chose for per table. It had a crispy skin and meaty, juicy interior. A must get! Also had to order this in advance when I paid the deposit. Double crab 5/5 - Steamed and delicious. Cooked perfectly with the meat being super delicious and clean. Sea bass 5/5 - No complaints here. So good! We had an enjoyable and comfortable dinner as far as the food. They have a bright, spacious, and elegant dining room though it may be getting a little dated as many of the chairs had little fabric tears on the seats. It was a Thursday and they had an exceptionally great value Thursday special of a 2 course Peking duck for just $28.80 CAD or $21.18 USD. They also had an ongoing promo of 15% off cash special, which we also opted for. We ordered: - 2 course Peking duck - Seafood casserole - Black bean bitter melon beef - Lotus roots with mushrooms and string beans The dishes were all large and generous. As with the Peking duck, the seafood casserole was very good. The Peking duck was served with pancakes rather than buns. The black bean bitter melon beef was just average though. The dinner also came with complimentary red bean dessert soup. There was a mandatory 12% tip and the all-in bill was $139.14 CAD or $102.31 USD, a great value. By the way, it's cash only here and though we were ok with it, it is unusual to not have a non-cash option given their price point. It's a good thing for our Chinese server lady that the tip was mandatory as she was a real Debbie Downer. She never cracked a smile, said hello or goodbye, and huffed a bit when we didn't order immediately upon sitting down. She was the worst server of our 3 day trip. We left $140 CAD cash but did discuss whether we should make her bring back $0.86 CAD in change but we're not quite that mean (but I would have enjoyed getting a reaction lol). This was my second time at Yang's and it was an absolute disaster. The first time I went, I enjoyed the food and service so much that I ended up changing my birthday celebration to Yang's. However, it was a big mistake. When I entered the restaurant, I was met with attitude. The manager gave me a dirty look right at the entrance. His eyes looked like a dead fish' eyes, rolling around. What did I do to him? Then when we ordered, the waiter tried to rush me through the ordering process. As for the food, it was mediocre. Don't order the jingdu pork chop. It takes like ketchup. When we finished the meal, I asked the waiter for some takeout containers. He didn't wait for me to even finish the request; he came back and threw several boxes and bags at our table. He then informed me that there was a free dessert. He asked how many servings we would need. I mentioned we had a birthday cake. He told me "Just tell me if you want it or you don't want it." The attitude was really bad. They still charged a mandatory 12% service fee. They ruined my birthday. I will not go back to this restaurant, and I will tell all my friends not to go. What we liked: We added the Peking duck daily special which is a decent deal for $28.8 on Thursdays. $15 extra to change the duck-2 ways to lettuce wrap with diced duck meat stir fry. Food quality is decent, food portion is reasonable. Ambiance is nice. I also liked the dessert which is a mango sago pomelo soup (楊枝甘露）with cookies。 What we didn't like: there was a lot of forgetful moments where you have to chase down servers (no where to be found) to deliver parts of your meal. This happened to two of our dishes. They delivered sliced Peking duck without wraps, and also forgot the snow pea leaves dish until we asked when we are done our dinner. We also had a questionable request by the restaurant to swap out a dish. Weird that they were out of suckling pig for a suckling pig meal by 715pm. Rather than proposing something of equivalent value, they provided half a soy chicken instead. We didn't want extra effort and accepted. I came here on a Saturday morning and there was no line up for a table. The food is pretty good but some dishes were bland. They could use a tad more salt. The angus beef stir fry rice noodle was my favourite out of all the things we ordered, but it's a bit on the pricier side ($25). Ordered a dim sum lunch using Uber Eats last week from here. The dishes are a bit pricey but I was surprise that they didn't mark up the prices on Uber Eats. I liked that their dim sum menu included the steamed meat on rice. It was a serving for two for only $10. We got the steamed black bean spare ribs on rice and it was so flavourful and the meat was so fresh. First off tips of 12% of gratuity is automatically added to the bill hence they don't even try to make an effort! No wonder there is no lineup for dim sum. We flagged down a second server and asked and sure enough instead of the snow pea scallop dumplings they dropped of the Chiu chow dumplings. After this it was wrong order after another. Tea pots were not refilled unless we flagged the staff multiple times. The worst part was the lobster noodle was luke warm! Chinese Seafood should be hot in temperature! Not sure if it was just sitting in the back? Some shell had no lobster meat in it...! I don't usually expect much from Chinese restaurant but to call themselves fine Chinese cuisine with premium prices I expected much more elevated experience instead we got service like we would at a wonton noodle shop! We must have ordered over 20 different dim sum dishes and our party of 10 finished every single one. I can wax poetic over each of these hand-made delicacies, but I'll highlight just a few: the daikon radish cake had chunks of daikon radish in it, the pineapple char siu buns had bits of pineapple in the top, the steamed pork ribs were fragrant and soft, the stewed chicken feet were perfection, the steamed rice sheets with car siu were freshly made, the shrimp dumplings were ginormous, etc. This is the place to go for dim sum. It is a smaller restaurant than some of the larger Chinese restaurants, but also much less chaotic. Food came out promptly after we ordered. They were pretty attentive to our requests and filling of glasses. Food was great except the spring rolls which tasted a bit on the mushy side definitely not the same as before. Everything else came out fresh and delicious. Enjoyed the food. We ordered dough fritters, haw gaw, haw gaw with foie gras, congee, and a recommendation from the waitress (dumplings). The foie gras addition seemed a little unnecessary but still good to try. The recommended dumplings were very ordinary and felt it was a lost opportunity. Arriving really early was the dough fritter (which is usually paired w congee), and after waiting 45 mins, we find out that the congee typically isn't served until 10:30am which would be another 45 minutes - honestly, let customers know at the time of ordering. Otherwise we would NOT have ordered the congee or dough fritters (which ended up being wasted). Yang's is definitely better than your average dim sum place, which I suppose my 4/5 rating already tells you. That says a lot coming from someone who generally has neutral feelings toward dim sum. My boyfriend and I ordered 11 dim sum dishes here--definitely way more than two people could finish! The four dishes that stood out to us the most were the five spice cuttlefish tentacles, beef ribs, spare ribs, and egg tarts. They were very good. The turnip cakes should have been crispier. The chicken feet, pork and shrimp siu mai, dried shrimp and seafood pancake, steamed duck feet, and BBQ pork buns were average. Yang's was the only dim sum restaurant we went to while in Toronto, so I don't have any other spots to compare it to in the city, but it's definitely worth a visit if you are looking for dim sum. 3.5 stars - food was delicious and service was really good as well, which was a pleasant surprise for a Chinese establishment. Came here on a Thursday night and it wasn't very busy - the restaurant is pretty big and it was maybe only half full which concerned me initially. We ordered one of the seafood dinner combos - we had the ginger and onion lobster, dungeness crab, large clams in a black bean sauce, steamed fish, steamed minced pork and a veggie dish. For dessert they had almond tea, almond cookies and the goji berry/lychee jellos. They didn't provide a complimentary soup to start the meal but that was no biggie. This was more than enough food for 6 adults - we had leftovers too! Each dish was really good, all the seafood was cooked well (not overcooked and rubbery) and not overly salty or oily. Not super cheap but not super expensive either, definitely a good value given the amount and quality of food you are getting. I would definitely come back for another group dinner. read more

I came to Yang's Chinese Cuisine for dim sum twice in the last month, after my go-to dim sum restaurant in Richmond Hill, Ambassador Chinese Cuisine, abruptly closed down in September after 18 years in business (my heart broke a little). And onto the food! Baked BBQ pork puffs with pineapple (L)- this was delicious, a perfect combination of savoury and sweet. In addition, the pastry was really nice and flaky. Deep fried minced pork and taro puffs (S)- also a pretty good version that wasn't overly greasy. Crystal jumbo shrimp har gow (L)- one of the only misses. The shrimps were plump and juicy, but the dumpling skin was too thick and effectively ruined the delicacy of the har gow. Fried rice noodle roll with XO sauce (XL)- I have to say, this was not the best version I've had. In fact, the Ambassador's version was a lot tastier. But for those with a heartier appetite, it would still be a very good choice to fill you up. One stand out was definitely the steamed soft egg custard buns (L). I find that this dish is usually either a hit or miss, and here it was executed very well. The bun to filling ratio was just right (usually there's too much bun), and the runny golden custard center was absolutely heavenly. Steamed rice noodle roll with jumbo shrimp and yellow chives (L). Again, the shrimp was excellent, but the yellow chives were nowhere to be seen (or perhaps I was just unlucky). Nevertheless, this was generally well done. Steamed BBQ pork bun with abalone sauce (S). As with the baked BBQ pork puff, the filling here was excellent, and the bun was delightfully fluffy. The avocado and shrimp roll (L) didn't look overly fancy, but it was actually very tasty. I didn't detect a lot of avocado, but I liked the roll a lot nevertheless. Baked cashew and pumpkin puffs (M). The puffs adorably resembled tiny pumpkins, complete with a cashew stem. But flavour-wise, I wished the pumpkin was more intense. Steamed mango custard layer cake (M). Aside from my affinity for custard, I really loved the lightness of the cake. The mango was a nice addition that didn't overwhelm the custard flavours. On the whole, the dim sum here is well-executed and tasty, albeit quite pricey (tea is $1.20 per person, S- $3.10, M- $4.20, L- $5.20, and XL- $7.80). They have a Peking duck special so I came to give it a try. The Peking duck was honestly delicious, but the customer service was absolute dog shit. They are booming with business because of this special and there are lines of people waiting for seating even if you make a reservation. My problem is that if you can't handle the business, don't promote it. They're so rushed and overly busy that they're rude to each customer that walks in. The hostess seated me at a table for 5, then the manager Ben came by and asked me how many people are in my party and I said two. He screamed at me and waved his arm in a swooping motion and told me I can't sit at this table. Don't understand why I got yelled at, considering the hostess sat me here. She came by later and I asked her If she was sure I could sit at this table, and she reassured me it's fine. The funny thing is this is my second horrible experience with him as I came a couple of weeks back and he was also extremely rude... they had five sets of dishes and utensils and nobody came to clear it off our table, and when he came by he sighed and shook his head and I said "no worries! We won't use it" and he said "well if you aren't using it someone else has to!!!!!" And I just laughed. I said that to be polite because I didn't mind that they didn't clear my table, yet I was met with raging sarcasm for no reason. Honestly, no food is worth it when you're met with such shitty service. Never coming back again, I don't have time for crazy rude people like him. The cherry on top, there was hair in my food. The staff is friendly, and attentive. Lots of local customers from around the area, the plaza has lots of parking spaces. The decor is nice and modern (except all windows are covered/blocked) the food comes out really fast. They also have waitresses bring out special dishes around to lure you into ordering more cause it looks so delicious (even, when you know that you have already ordered too much) they know how to do business! I agree that most of the dim sum dishes were delicious (some misses) but the biggest disappointment is the overly expensive price tag on them, the ingredients are normal, it's not like there is scallops in the Sui Mai or sharks fin. Everything was regular menu items you find at other Chinese tea places but with a huge price tag. I have been here 4 times (close to home) and each time cost is $60 (including tips) on a lunch. I love dim sum, but not really $60 worth, especially with so much competition and delicious dim sum in the GTA (except just a bit further out for me, when in extremely hungry) read more
