But one day after an event nearby, we decided to finally try it. It's actually decent size inside even though from the outside it looks small. Food was great. I went in to pick up my order and was the only person at the front where you pick up and there were two men there. I said hi and no one acknowledged me or said anything at all. The one that I had said hi to then walked away and acted like I was not there. The second old guy came over and I said that was rude. I told him about how I thought that interaction was rude and why. He told me they are busy and you can leave. I said I already ordered I'm just trying to pick up my food and pay. I was trying to pay and the guy was just saying nothing at all, I asked can I tap my card to pay, he kind of yelled I was waiting for you to tell me, but this guy never said anything to me. Then the guy told me he canceled my order and to get out he's busy already. These asshats don't care about their customers... they are rude as F.... They do not deserve anyone's business!!! I've been a regular customer at Happy Garden in Fairfield, CA, and I've always had a good experience--so what happened recently was honestly shocking. A few weeks ago, I dined in and apparently the owner claims no tip was left. I don't recall that happening, and I always tip, so if it did happen, it was not intentional. Fast forward to my most recent visit: I came in for dinner with my daughter, and the owner told me he would not serve us because of that one instance. I was caught completely off guard. To make matters worse, he said I could still order food "to go," but refused to let us dine in. That treatment felt extremely unfair and unprofessional, especially as a returning customer. Thankfully, another customer spoke up and said it wasn't right, which I appreciated. I understand tipping is important, but refusing service over a single situation--without even giving the benefit of the doubt or having a respectful conversation--is not how loyal customers should be treated. Been eating here for 20+ years, food always good. But not anymore! Tonight we ordered t go, Vegetable chow mien and Mongolian beef. Never again! The Mongolian beef was great, no bad thing to say about that but the Vegetable chow mien? Vegetable chow mien was awful. First of all it was udon noodles, so very thick and starchy, and there weren't any vegies, we had 2 pieces of broccoli and 2 pieces of bok choy, oh and a vegetable peel of zucchini. That's it! Came in around 430pm on Sunday with family. We were quite a large group, table of 13 to be exact and we were seated quick. Not busy yet at 430 but right around 5ish people started to trickle in. Staff was friendly and playful. Everything was quick. They gave us waters, gave us enough time to order, and food came out fast. We were so hungry, I didn't get a chance to take pictures of the food. We order calamari, lemon sliced fish, walnut prawns, string beans with black bean sauce, house chow mein, HK style noodles, pork fried rice, beef with broccoli and steamed rice. Everything was delicious. The fried items came out crispy and not greasy. Everything had great flavor and serving size was good. No complaints here. We're always looking for a good mom & pop Chinese restaurant wherever we go and with good food and fair prices, this is one of them. When my wife first tried this place, it was great and chow mein was on point. But after a while we noticed their service was not professional nor nice at all. They started to slam things on the table as if we offended them in some way? And sometimes it feels like they don't even want to work there. I confronted one of the servers and asked if they had something against us , mind you we are Hispanic people & he said that they work hard to not get any tip from us . Mind you, I'm a guy that tips 15-20% always . I defended myself but he did not believe me. I wonder if his other co-worker was pocketing the tips? maybe he was confused with other people? But he clearly did not like my presence and suggested we do take out next time . Even takeout was a drag for them so we just completely stopped going overall . Food was good but their service made it taste TERRIBLE. Owner should retrain them or replace entirely if they want to grow as a company. read more

Stopped in for a late dinner on Friday night, about 45 minutes before they closed. All the food was delicious and fresh tasting and came out fairly quickly. We did not feel rushed at all since they were close to closing. One of us did the personal dinner with sweet and sour pork with chowmein. 2 of us did the family dinner which included cashew chicken, sweet and sour pork, soup, rice, egg rolls, and crispy wontons. I enjoyed all of it as it was not too salty or tasted as if was reheated. Veggie to protein portions were very good and the sauces were delicious. I always pass this restaurant everytime I go to either costco or safeway.. For several years I just simply missed this... One day, I thoughtof trying their food for a change... Ordered Bbq spareribs and orange chicken and sweet and sour... 1. Total disappointment about quantity and packaging 2 Spareribs look like duck and so overly food colored, spare ribs look like bloody meat 3. Sweet and sour has more small veggies not sure what those were and less meat 4. Taste of all 3 dishes - bland and boring, no kick in it 5. Spareribs are not even tender we ended up tossing them Finale : We did not enjoy the food, no wonder I missed this place many times .. this isnt even worth $10 if I can be honest...I mean I love chinese food but this? The specials come with a cup of soup to start and the plate specials come with your choice of steamed rice or fried rice and a slice of orange. This is our go to Chinese restaurant in Fairfield. Their steamed flounder is steamed with ginger, green onions, cilantro, and soy sauce, very traditional and tasty. They offer it in fillets or whole which makes it great for special occasion or just a week night dinner. We enjoy their Mu Shu it is packed with veggies and always a winner in our house. My daughter absolutely loves their Wor Wonton Soup. They offer traditional dishes that you won't find anywhere else in Fairfield like their Preserved Egg with Mustard Green Soup, Seaweed Tofu Soup, Seafood Tofu Clay Pot, etc etc. Solano doesn't have much to offer for Chinese food, but in my humble opinion Happy Garden really stand out from all the American Chinese Restaurants that are so prevalent here. read more
