fish jook & veggie Chang fun without soy sauce
    J L.

I was craving some Cantonese comfort food and my coworker recommended this spot for lunch. I got the fish congee and the veggie Chang Fen without soy sauce because I'm allergic to gluten. Highly recommend taking your gf soy sauce if you're allergic to gluten like me! Anyway, both dishes were delicious and the fish jook was super creamy, savory and a bit sweet. I really enjoyed my dishes and found that their prices are reasonable. The service was quick and efficient too. They have about 3 more locations throughout the Bay Area!

The bbq rice noodle roll was delicious. Beef stew he fun, they don't have rice noodle, was delicious. The broth wasn't salty yet flavorful. I don't think there's msg because I wasn't thirsty after eating it. Milk tea is delicious. Coffee milk tea is OK. Siu mai was meh.

Came here with my parents on a Monday around 7. We were the only customers. Service was quick and efficient. My dad is from Hong Kong and he is very picky about food. He loves this place's soy sauce noodles and fresh shrimp fried rice! It's not oily at all and super flavorful. The porridge was also good with the Chinese donut. My mom wanted to order the French toast but they sold out. Will definitely be back !

A new spot in Concord... I don't bad mouth any spot. The food is good and the price is right. They clearly do a lot of to go orders so the focus is not on dining inside. I think if you can get over some odd stuff and just enjoy how great the food is I think you will enjoy. The place is clean inside and the food comes fast.

This relatively new place mostly offers dim sum and porridge. I like that the menu is enlarged on their walls displayed outside so you know what they have to offer before you go in. We have only done take out and it's pretty fast - 10 minutes or so with chairs in front for you to sit and wait. You can look at the tv screens while you are waiting and we were watching how dim sum was made in China. We tried the chicken porridge, fish porridge and the chinese donut that is usually eaten with the jook. All were good and tasty and the jook was less than $10. We recently just ordered a tub of regular jook and it was good. This will likely be my go to place for jook as it's reasonable and I don't want to drive to Oakland or SF Chinatown. There were quite a few people dining in at the time. Parking is not an issue as this is located in the outdoor strip mall and there is plenty of parking behind the building. There are other eating places nearby as well as 85 degree bakery. You need to ask for utensils if needed. It is not always given.

Been to multiple Yin Ji's and I love the food here! My friend and I stopped by Saturday night for dinner. We were the first ones seated around 6:30, but a couple groups came after us. This space is large and spacious with plenty of parking in the plaza. It's probably my favorite location so far in the bay area (over Berkeley and Dublin) in terms of ambience. In terms of the menu, they specialize in rice noodle rolls (chang fen) and congee, but they also offer some noodle soups and dimsum items as well. I was starving, so I ordered two rice noodle rolls for myself: the pork and beef roll ($9) and the shrimp roll ($8.25). Both rolls came out quickly and were delicious! The skin was silky smooth and there was a good amount of filling in each roll. I literally inhaled both rolls; they were gone in minutes! My friend got the fried tofu appetizer ($6.25) to snack on as he wasn't that hungry. I tried a piece of it and while it was fried well, it was very bland. Needed to dip it in the salt that comes on the side for some flavor.

I ordered beef noodles to go and just got noodles. I said no bean sprouts only. Like what the hell, it's not even like they were busy when I was there. I don't understood how they would mess up this one order.

Everything was delicious - but the garlic wings steals the show. Very juicy without batter!

Dim sum was pretty good and reasonably priced. Wings were juicy and crispy, no batter which was good a plus. I'd go there just for the wings! No soy sauce or chili oil on the table so you have to ask for it. Other than that, really good food and at a reasonable price!

Yum yum yum! Great food, quick and fantastic service, easy seating! I've been here twice now and the food has been great both times. My favorites are definitely the rice rolls and the congee

I am happy we have a "Chang Fen" and congee spot in East Bay as they are quite niche within Cantonese cuisine, let along Chinese food. Yin Ji offers a strong selection of both and they are tasty! We also have a few other items such as Black Egg Custard Bun (with salty egg custard) and regular egg custard bun. They have Beef Chow Fun and Sticky rice too from dim sum menu. Overall, this is a great casual Cantonese food spot if you are craving for simple dishes. The price is fair and you will satisfy your Cantonese food craving here!

We were seated immediately in a busy Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was clean, nice and bright. Service was okay. Not much to say. The rice roll was underwhelming. We ordered the bbq pork and dried shrimp roll. There wasn't very much filling at all. I was confused when I had my first piece and thought we had mistaking ordered a plain roll. The shu mai and har gow were fairly standard and yummy. We were bummed there weren't the standard vinegar and chili oil offerings.

Just like the Milpitas location, this place is modern, small, and located in a plaza! The service is quick and there weren't too many people dining in! Food IS THE BEST! Love Yin Ji Chang Fen dim sum so much! Glad we stopped by for a quick snack after the bday party we attended next door at Urban Air Concord!

Their congee is reasonably priced and excellent. Their shrimp rice noodle is also great. Parking is plentiful.

For anyone coming, the parking can be really bad as it shares probably 20 or so spots with several other restaurants. It's near impossible to park nearby with the alternative of parking near the Panera's or even the target. There's plenty of tables and seats inside, and it was pretty slow when we dined in. Convenient televisions on two different sides where all the workers were casually watching, and quite the chatter in the kitchen where they're all watching the World Cup. That doesn't really affect service however as they're quite attentive when called for. We ordered the salted fish and chicken fried rice, and the medium bbq platter with char sound soy sauce chicken. All very delicious! The only thing is that they can bit on the pricier side with $20 for the fried rice and $30 for the bbq plate. Overall, I thought grand cafe definitely scratched our itch for Cantonese style dining experience. It typically comes with great food, good service, and a bit of nostalgia from being from the Bay Area.

My brother and I met a few friends here for dinner on 11/28/2025. At around 7:15pm, the place was completely full. Fortunately, our friends arrived a little earlier and secured a table. The interior was clean. A couple TVs on the walls were showing different sporting and news programs. Their menu featured a wide array of non-Americanized Cantonese fare. We decided to do family style and got half a dozen dishes to share. They were: Beef Filet with Mixed Mushrooms, 1lb of BBQ Pork, Fujian Fried Rice, Beef Chow Fun with Gravy, House Pan Fried Noodles, and Salted Pork Bone and Peanut Porridge. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes. Overall, I was impressed by quality and authenticity. Despite the slightly higher price point comparing to other similar restaurants, they didn't skimp on anything. The rice and noodle dishes were loaded with delicious toppings, and the taste was on point. The BBQ pork and the beef filet dish were both fantastic. The meat/fat ratio of the BBQ pork was just right, and the beef filet cubes were tender and flavorful. The porridge was just okay. My mom's version still reigns supreme. Service we received was very good. Our server was very friendly and gave us helpful suggestions. She did forget our iced water, but I am willing to overlook that. I got a chance the chat with staff before we left, they were all very genuine and friendly people. Overall, I was very pleased with my experience here. The food was authentic and tasty, and the staff were friendly and helpful. If you want authentic Cantonese food but don't want to pay the super premium price, this is definitely a good option for you. I will return. 4 solid stars.

Almost no spots open besides one that was too small for other cars but luckily we fit. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Not the cleanest or tidiest of restaurants but usually those are the ones where you know the food is what brings people in regardless. We signed in on a paper sheet and were called to be seated shortly after. After ordering, the food came out very quickly - we almost didn't have enough space on the table! - FOOD - BBQ Pork & Dry Shrimp ($10.25): I'm used to the BBQ Pork being more chopped up, but they keep the pieces here bigger. I think I like BBQ Pork and Dry Shrimp separate more. Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll ($9.00): One of the classics, and will always be my number one pick! I prefer my rice rolls to not have lettuce in them though. Dough Stick Rice Noodle Roll ($7.95): I thought that the dough stick could have been fresher, it was a bit stale by the time we ate it. Pork and Gold Preserved Egg Congee ($7.50): Really well flavored, and good amount of pork and egg. The consistency is thicker than I'm used to but it's still good. Shrimp Wonton Soup ($11.75): Nice clean broth, and the wontons were nicely seasoned. I do wish there was more soup. Shrimp Dumplings ($7.25): We just wanted to try these, and honestly they were just OK. Skin fell apart pretty easily but the shrimp was big. Fried Sesame Balls ($6.00): Also just OK. Upon entering, you can tell this is the kind of restaurant where people host weddings, birthdays, and special events. They even have private rooms you can book with karaoke! They also showcase their crabs and lobsters in tanks at the front, which looked incredibly large and fresh. Similar to another reviewer's comment, there wasn't a hostess available when we walked in, but someone came by quickly and seated us after only a couple of minutes. We were so happy to be seated right by the window, though honestly, most perimeter seats seem to have a great view. We enjoyed our meal as the sun set, and I'd highly recommend arriving or making a reservation about an hour before sunset to fully enjoy the vibe. They have a massive menu with plenty of traditional Southern-style Chinese dishes and dim sum options, so it took us about 10 minutes to finally decide what to order. I'll start with the mentaiko seafood fried rice, which was something I hadn't tried before, but I love anything mentaiko. The fried rice came out as a generous family-style portion. It wasn't bad, but I do think it could have used more seasoning - like a lot more seasoning. More mentaiko, more seafood, and stronger salty-savory flavors would have done the dish justice. As is, it's probably a good option if you're sharing with a young child. The crab crystal dumplings were a nice step up from traditional har gow, which I enjoyed. The salt and pepper fried tofu was exactly what I was hoping for: crunchy and salty on the outside, light on the inside, and not too filling. The squid and green beans from the specials menu were a bit of a gamble, but they turned out delicious. I'd definitely order that dish again. We also noticed they have a weekly specials menu that changes every day, and we're already planning to come back--specifically on Thursday because that menu looks delicious. Overall, Hong Kong East Ocean exceeded my expectations. The ambience and view were breathtaking, the service was efficient, and the food was delicious. I know some people mentioned the pricing being high, but I actually thought it was very reasonable for what it is. Compared to Chinese restaurants in downtown Berkeley, you're paying about the same, but the food is better and the view is unmatched.

On top of that, an automatic gratuity was added to a table of only three people with one of them being 4 year old. She barely even ate with tea price per person. I don't mind paying premium prices for great food and service, but I do expect transparency. Many of the dim sum items also felt extremely overpriced, $9 for two egg tarts is hard to justify and sadly they weren't worth that. Felt like it was not fresh.
