Pappi is definitely not happy honestly, I think smiling might be against restaurant policy, yet him in medication should be. I went in to grab a DoorDash order and immediately got locked into an intense staring contest. No "hi," no "hello," not even a courtesy blink--just a full-on scowl like I personally ruined his day by ordering food at his spot. After a solid few seconds of awkward silence, I finally said I was there to pick up my food. That's when things escalated. He launched into a rant about how he's "tired of this sht," and I'm just standing there thinking... sir, I only came for my food, not your emotional baggage. I asked if everything was okay, which apparently was the wrong move, because he doubled down with "I don't need this sht & F*** DoorDash." At this point, I'm just a confused bystander in what feels like a one-man protest against his life. He then dramatically tossed my food onto the counter like it had personally offended him. I grabbed it (because, you know, I already paid) and made a swift exit. It was a weird exchange. Then I read other reviews of Google and realized I'm not a sole witness to Un-Happy Pappi's cray-cray. Food? was Meh. Service? Olympic-level bad. Will I go back? Only if I'm craving awkward eye contact and chaos. Also... how does this place have 5 stars?? I need answers. read more

My husband and I went during reatauraunt week midday. It wasn't busy and we found easy street parking. This was our first time here and the food did not disappoint. We started with plantains and yuca fries, yum!I had the chicken arepa and he had the shrimp. Both were very filling and delicious. You have the option of 3 fresh sauces to compliment the arepa if desired (all were delicious and only 1 is hott). Dessert was amazing and not too rich. We recently had similar food on vacation in Florida and this meal was way better!! We will be back to try more. read more

My First initial visit to happy Pappi was unforgettable! The Ambiance was amazing, they even have a hammock. There's always a sporting event on tv and they play all types of music. A Perfect place for an intimate date, getting a couple of drinks with friends or spending time with family. Happy Pappi's specialize in Arepas with a list of different variations of flavor which I am excited to try in addition to all the other Traditionally Venezuelan dishes like Pabellon Criollo and Tequeños. They serve all-you-can-eat Paella on Fridays. The flavors are there and the specialty that brings it all together is three sauces and the pickled onions served with every meal at your leisure to experience the different flavors and experiment with the endless combinations the restaurant has to offer. They serve great cocktails and have an assortment of beer and flavored vodka seltzer. The owners are a nice couple and I just know this restaurant doesn't get the attention and recognition they deserve. I recommend trying something different every visit, you won't be disappointed. Bring your appetite and tell a friend about this hidden gem! I believe they close at 9 pm but the owners are interested in extending hours based on business. This is one of few restaurants in the area that serves delicious cultural cuisine and it's probably nothing you've tried before. I'm excited to spend my summer trying out the menu. read more

Damn! These are delicious! So for those who don't know, arepas are a type of corn meal bread/pancake which the Venezuelan way is to stuff them like sandwiches. Try the pulled pork one and/or the brisket. It's sooo good! And the sauces complement them well! We're just traveling on our way up to Ithaca for a camping weekend and decided to try. 5 stars! read more

Recently stopped in to order takeout. I had never had arepas before, and didn't know what to expect. Wow! They are delicious! I wasn't sure if they were going to be more sandwich or more taco-- the answer is sandwich. But think "sandwich on fluffy white pancakes." All of the sauces are so good too, and so were the rice and beans. The inside was definitely more bar than restaurant. I wish it was more kid-friendly, but that's not based on anything in particular-- just the vibe. read more

The best place for some wonderful comfort food! The paella is wonderful, as are all of the arepas (we've tried them all by now). When stopping in with Venezuelan friends recently, they were thrilled with the food, as well. We've been back often, and will keep going in! The owners are wonderful folks, and fun to talk with. We were there for Happy Pappi's Venezuelan paella on Friday night, and it was wonderful. The food was excellent, and you can enjoy talking with the chef and other folks in a very relaxed, neighborhood atmosphere. It's a place we definitely need to go back to again and again! Just go.
