Beware of canine ageism at so-called Happy Pet Salon!! Here's what happened: I tried to book an appointment for my sweet dog Sam (who Gina had groomed previously in her other shop with no problems whatsoever), but was rebuffed this time for NO good reason! On the phone I politely explained that Sam is 13 now but in excellent health with no behavioral issues, and requested an early appointment so I could get him home quickly. To my shock Gina flat out REFUSED to groom Sam again, stating "I can't do senior dogs like yours b/c they don't like to be groomed and might have a heart attack from shock." WTF are senior dogs supposed to just go around dirty with long nails for the rest of their lives? Happy Ending: I took Sam to another groomer who is welcoming of senior dogs and was very glad to have him as a client! read more

Not sure if anything changed but this place has really gone down hill. I have brought my husky here since he was a pup and they used to be great. However, recent service has been really poor. They shaved my husky without my consultation stated he was very matted. My issue with this is that he had been worsely compacted before and they were able to take care of him without shaving, and further i was not made aware of the shave until pick up. Double coated dogs should not be shaved so I should have been made aware and a decision should have been made together on what we would do. I tried to schedule a two month groom and was told it was not worth it for them to take us because we did not want to pay more money. Again, my issue here is they didnt take the time to talk to us and explain the reason for the cost and the value of their time. We've been to about 3 other groomers who were all much cheaper, but didnt do as good work so i would have been open to a discussion about cost if the time and work made sense, but that was not even an option. Im disappointed because this place had done very good work during our beginning experiences with our dog, which is why we returned. Hoping they make changes and pick up their quality. read more

Absolutely blown away by the kindness of the staff here. It was my first time here with my shiba inu and the woman not only gave me 50% off, but also gave my shiba a complimentary bandana, doody bag holder, treats, tear drops (bc his eyes were tearing, even prior to bringing him in), and a cone collar bc he was rubbing his eyes. I have been bringing my 2 miniature poodles here every 6 weeks for the past 3-1/2 years. They both get a puppy cut. Until the last 2 haircuts I have been very happy. The last 2 groomings their backsides were styled differently. I politely asked if they could go back to how they were cut for the previous 3+ years. Sadly, and shockingly, I was asked to not return to Happy Pet Salon as we were "too high maintenance." Both dogs are well behaved, they actually love being groomed. I have always requested that hypoallergenic shampoo and face wash be used on them. Until recently, that had not been an issue. I still do not know why we are "high maintenance" but these 14 pound dogs will be going elsewhere. read more

My dog was subjected to cruelty and the groomer did not even apologize. She told me this is a common occurrence when nails are cut too deep. All four paws had deep ulcerations due to the groomer's work. The groomer told me when confronted to just put baby powder on my dog's wounds. She insisted that I SHOULD NOT take my dog to the vet. This review is based SOLEY on the absolute rudeness that goes on here. The actual grooming my dog receive was... "alright", however it's VERY difficult for me to recommend this place to anyone. I've had my Standard Schnauzer, Hugo, groomed here 2x, the 2nd time being the last. Both the owner/groomer and the assistant are VERY rude. -My dog can surely be a bit difficult to groom at times (I'm well aware of this) and I've even openly admitted it to the groomer. The first appointment I made, I mad this very clear. I asked for the first appointment so he could be the first out. -When I arrive to pick him up, she claims that he is very difficult to cut, and that it'd be better for me to take him during the week (not convenient or even possible for me). -As stated previoously - she did do a decent job, definitely not top notch as I've had the in the past with him but decent. I semi-begrudgingly made a 2nd appointment as it was convenient and she had an open spot in the morning. I did mention to her AGAIN that he was a bit of a problem last time, and she assured me it would be ok. Once we arrive, she must have realized who Hugo was, the assistant looked at his file they have on record, rolled her eyes and started giving us an attitude for bringing him in early on a weekend, even though we were assured it would be absolutely fine. When I arrived to pick him up after this 2nd and final appointment, the groomer was practically yelling at me, raising her voice at me, telling me I can never bring him again on a weekend. I quickly paid the bill, and left. She surely lost my business;' absolutely no way to treat a customer. Don't take an appointment if you can't handle it, that simple. Make a note made known to the public that you can't handle larger dogs, but don't take it out on your customer. Time to find another groomer. read more

I had tried Jina at Happy Pet on the advice of a fellow dog owner. My dog has arthritis and hip problems so I understood when they said she was very sensitive to being groomed, but she looked good so I continued. But I noticed that it was taking longer and longer before they were done. Finally the day came when I had to keep calling to find out when she was ready. It took them five and half hours. I can only surmise that they were doing her in sections and putting in other dogs during downtime. I found another groomer who does her in an hour. She's still sensitive but she's not sitting around in strange surroundings. read more

I had dropped my pomeranian / shih tzu mix off yesterday at 1130 to be groomed. Since it was his first time at this place I was very nervous. Just before 2 o clock I got the call that he was ready so I headed over to go get him. When I got there he was running around with two other dogs and looked and did not seem scared or upset at all. It should be called 'Happy dog salon'. My family has brought my stubborn pug there for a reasonably priced nail trim multiple times. (More expensive than petsmart, but we like supporting local businesses.) I was hoping to find a nice new place to get my little baby cat groomed, but I first went in for a nail trim. When I called they told me the price was almost triple than a dog nail cut. Initially I was alright with this, until I came in for my appointment and the women didn't know how to restrain my cat and asked me to restrain him myself? So I did half the work and paid at least double the price. I would like to go back there but since I work with animals myself for a living, this just rubbed me the wrong way. read more

My brother loves this place. He takes his (small) dog there on a regular basis and started taking my chocolate lab there as well. I was nervous knowing that my dog wouldn't really listen to any1 if I wasn't there. Come to find out she loves them there and they, her. She let them cut her nails, brush her and even brush her teeth. They love to give her treats and a cute little scarf when we are leaving. They love her there. I would strongly recommend this pet salon. I have possibly the most difficult dog when it comes to nail cutting (to the point where Petco and the veterinarian can't do it without sedation). I've taken my dog here twice and they were able to successfully cut her nails both times. The second time I took my dog here - my dog didn't even give any kind of sass. It was amazing! I don't have to get my dog groomed so I'm not sure how their services are for that, but the price for nail cutting here is ~$10 which is much cheaper than going to Petco or the veterinarian. I visited this store by the suggestion of my friend. I have a very sensitive dog. She does not like any of grooming places we visited before we found this store. She barked non stop and wanted to keep run away which made so hard for the people to take care of her. But this store was different. My dog, obviously, acted the same way but, the workers were skilled enough to control her. I often drop and pick up my mom's 2 dogs here and I feel they go beyond of what's required. They have found ticks on our dogs, spotted rashes, the start of ear infections (smelly ear)etc. I actually ran into the main groomer (asian girl) at a local store, and she recognized me, remembered our dog's names, and asked how our dog's ear was doing, which kind of surprised me. This prompted me to write a positive review. She is sweet and friendly and I can see why my mom prefers coming here. My family has been following Jina's services all across New York, from her old location in manhattan and now even to Happy Pet, because she and the staff there are just that good. Our two dogs, an english bulldog and a 17 year old shih tzu, are quite troublesome to groom. Particularly our shih tzu because of his frailty and body sores that come with his age. When we take him to Jina however, they always handle him with such a caring touch that often times my shih tzu dozes off and falls asleep while being groomed. My english bulldog is also always way too eager to step onto the grooming platform before anyone can help him up. The dogs are comfortable and not anxious at all when we take them to Jina's, and in turn owners feel relief knowing their pets are in trustworthy hands.
