My first day in Venice, I noticed people casually strolling around, window shopping, eating out of to-go boxes of pasta. What was that all about?! I finally stumbled onto the source -- Happy Pizza, a fast food type eatery where you can stand at a table but not sit at one. Neither of us are big into pasta (I know, we make Italy sad), so no pasta-in-a-box for us, but I can see the allure -- cheap, filling, & can be consumed without taking precious sightseeing time away from your day. The heavy foot traffic in the area means this eatery is probably baking off pizzas constantly because my slice of cheese topped with olives tasted fresh; salty & satisfying. His Piadina Venezia, which looked like a quesadilla stuffed with prosciutto, herbs, mozzarella, & olive oil, was a decent-sized snack which held him over until dinner. With two drinks, our total came out to about €11, our cheapest meal in Venice! Do like the tourists & stop by Happy Pizza!

If you want a big slice of pizza or some handmade pasta, this is the place to check out in Venice! In between the narrow bustling shops and streets, this place caught my attention right away because of the fact that they had large displays of yummy pizza all over the front of their shop. Cheese pizza is 3€ and the rest is 3.5€. They have a large selection from mushrooms to sausage and pepperoni. I was so pleased I came back later to try their pasta which was pretty good overall! The convenient thing about this place is although there are no chairs to sit it is not an actual sit down or restaurant so service is quick and the price is cheap and food is still really good quality.

Incredible! We were only in Venice two days and ate here for a lunch and dinner. Great food almost like a combination tapas and sushi bar. Husband wife owners and very friendly and speak perfect English. You can't go wrong here. Great place!!!

I had no idea how highly rated this place was until I got home. We stumbled upon it near our hotel!

The first pizza I ate in Italy did not disappoint! The staff was helpful in selecting size and toppings and it literally took like 7 minutes to make a giant pizza that fed a hungry family of four. Loved that they offered pizza, pasta to go, wraps and sandwiches. Definitely set up for take out, but that is just what we wanted. Glad we stumbled upon it near our hotel!

Pasta and pizza were great. Small place with a few seats, but mostly take away. Great lunch stop.

What better way to spend it than wandering around Venice and enjoying dinner at Rossopomodoro? They're still in the "Italy training program" and these menus tend to confuse them, so after three weeks here I felt obligated to guide them toward the promised land. After much studying, debating, and staring at menus, it was finally time to order. I went with the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and the wife and I shared a salad. When that salad hit the table, it nearly stole the entire show. We drizzled on a little balsamic vinaigrette, added a shake of salt and pepper, and suddenly we were ready to dance right there in the alley. Fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, crisp greens--every ingredient tasted like it had been picked that morning. It was outstanding. The pasta was very good, but today the salad was the undisputed champion of the meal. Of course, dining outside along Venice's busy walkways only adds to the experience. Watching people pass by while enjoying great food is one of those simple pleasures that makes Venice such a special place. Rossopomodoro delivered a fantastic meal and a great evening. The newcomers survived their first full day in Italy, and I'd say they're off to a pretty good start.
