Although the outside isn't anything spectacular, the true magic happens when you sit down to eat. We loved the food so much we actually went back the next (and our final) night. Our amazing waiter Andrea remembered us and sat us at the same table. I absolutely loved what I had the previous night- Taglioni in nero di seppia (pasta with squid ink with Venetian cuttlefish) that I was going to order it again. Tucked away in a Venice alley, you could walk right on by Da Mamo and not even notice. There's just a small sign sticking out from the wall signifying the entrance. But should you find it, you're in for a treat. Everything we ordered, and everything we saw other people order, looked amazing. I especially recommend the squid ink pasta. Be sure to wear dark clothing or protect yourself with napkins, as the sauce can stain. This is a great place to relax and refuel! read more

While Da Mamo is known for their pizza, I my personal favorite is their seafood pasta. The pasta was cooked perfectly and everything was extremely fresh. Most restaurants in Italy offer their own version of homemade tiramisu and Da Mamo's version is the most unique and delicious of them all. The crunchy texture of the ladyfingers adds a whole new dimension to the dessert. The one thing I found slightly inconvenient is that we had to scan a QR code for menu and cellphone signals in the restaurant can be spotty at times. read more

We came here because it's close to our AirBnB. The place is tucked away in an alleyway, but there are signs pointing to it. Two people had pizzas (diavola and Viennese) and said they were good. The diavola flavor profile built as one eats. My daughter has the black tagliolini with cuttlefish and I had the one with prawns. The cuttlefish texture was kind of weird but flavor was good. I LOVED my tagliolini with prawns. Might have been the most unique item in our group. Bottles of water was nice and cold and hit the spot. The service was pretty good. It's a small cozy restaurant but be prepared for an energy filled noisy room. Service was great with quick seating. We split a pizza and they brought it out divided on two plates. We ordered the diavola a pizza. It was listed as spicy but it tasted like pepperoni from home. Thin crust was cooked nice and crispy. It was good. They brought us a complimentary small dark chocolate cup filled with a lemon liquor for dessert. The flavors blended well together and it was a nice way to end the meal. Our tour guide recommended the perfect spot for dinner tonight, and it did not disappoint! This quaint little restaurant served up a delicious meal from start to finish. It's been a year since my husband and I visited this restaurant and I'm still craving the margherita pizza! The fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and basil were amazing delicious. While waiting, they served us with bread with balsamic vinaigrette and olive oil. We ordered the Fritto di Pesce, Spaghetti All'Uovo Allo Scoglio and Quattro Formaggi Pizza. The Fritto di Pesce (seafood sampler) was delicious, yummy and crunchy! The spaghetti (seafood pasta) was delicious and the pizza was delightful! Oh man oh man. Let's start off with service was terrible. Staff was rude. We were seated at a table and one fork was accidentally dropped and another missing. I asked for 2 forks when the food came and the server told me I don't need them because everything was on the table. I told him one fork dropped by another member of the party and I didn't have a fork when I sat down and he kept repeating that I dropped the fork. Pretty rude. I got to try several of the dishes at our table and my fave was "Fresh cavatelli with pistachio pesto flavored with thyme and lemon zest and confit cherry tomatoes." We also enjoyed the Classic Whimsical pizza and the "Tagliolini with prawns, seared tomatoes, basil, and Genoese pesto." They also finished our meal with a complimentary melon liqueur in a tiny chocolate cup which was fun! My only complaint is that they only serve bottled water for $3 per bottle...no tap water available. We made due with one bottle between 5 of us but we shouldn't have had to worry about it. read more

Pizzas were just okay. Bathroom was kinda dirty and small. But the servers. Holy shit, guys. Don't be in the service business if you can't tolerate people. Servers in all other places have been pretty nice but I guess we should have avoided eating in such a tourist filled area. I think whoever the owner and manger of this place should have a serious conversation with their servers about their attitudes towards customers cuz it makes a huge difference in their business in the long run. Hubby and I needed a little something to eat after a very long night/morning of travel. So after some exploring, we stopped here. This place is super tiny. But I personally loved the cozy feel. We shared a four top with another couple and had a Separator on the table between us. We quickly browsed the menu and immediately opted for the gnocchi to share (we had a big dinner coming up and didn't want to over do it). It didn't take long for the bread basket to arrive. It was the EXACT SAME BREAD that I then found at every restaurant in Venice. Do they all get it from the same place?? Shortly after, our gnocchi arrived and it was beautiful! Not at all what I expected, but beautiful. It was four large gnocchis covered with sauce. These gnocchis were a different consistency than I'm used to - fluffy, almost bread-like. It didn't have as much of the chewy noodle consistency that I'm used to. But I loved it! The cheese fondue it was covered it was so delicious - hubby and I fought to defend our halves from each other, scooping up every last bit of sauce. With our check came complimentary chocolate cups filled with a mint liquor. A little strong for my tastes, but I'm not much for the flavor of alcohol. Over All, this was my favorite pasta I had while in Venice. So it gets a 5/5 for me! Good service, cozy and perfect for a lunch date with hubby. read more

I first found this restaurant on TripAdvisor, and it came highly rated. If you're familiar with Venice, you'll know how hard it is to find any particular place. The winding streets and bridges make it extremely easy to get lost. To find this place, look at the map at their website. Upon arrival, I noticed that there are two entrances and there people lining up. The restaurant is relatively small and completely packed. They have English menus, so that's a big plus. One of their specials that particular day was octopus ink fettucini. I was feeling brave and decided to order it. Another restaurant that made me lose a little faith in online reviews. With glowing ratings on tripadviser and yelp, my husband and I stopped in for lunch on our last full day in Venice. The restaurant was empty and we were hesitant to be seated. We decided to stick it out nevertheless, how wrong can over a thousand reviews be? I went with seabass ravioli with shrimp sauce while my husband went with calf's liver with polenta (another Venetian special). As we waited for our food, I noticed our waiter was more interested on checking our his shoes and chatting with his co workers. While all the nearby tables had received their bread basket and amuse bouche, we were simply forgotten. When our food finally arrived, I noticed my ravioli were still somewhat uncooked. They were doughy and inedible. Additionally, there was no trace of seabass. Cheese ravioli? I would had believed. My husband's calf's liver was drenched in oil. He stomached 3 pieces and called it a day. His polenta was so burnt that only the center could be eaten. Overall - It was the perfect diet meal for us to get gelato nearby. read more

Walked by and saw it, decided to try it. Had a Pizza with buffalo mozzarella, was good. Had some grilled chicken with lemon sauce and the edges were pretty well cooked. That was just okay. The waiter kept trying to be funny so that lightened things up a bit. Dessert was ice cream with raspberry jam. Good but I had to go and find other dessert, because ONE mini scoop of ice cream is not dessert... Asked for regular pasta with red sauce and they refused to make it. They said many people ask but they won't do it. I was steered to the more expensive combo spaghetti dishes at 16 Euro and up to 22. Plan to spend good money here, the bill for one person with a starter, pasta, and meat can easily be 40 Euro a person. Dessert was better priced, and pizzas were a bit expensive and a tad smaller than I have had in many other Italy spots. Lobster spaghetti was tasty. To see an Amarone for only 10€ is incredible. In the city I normally pay at least $20/glass. So happy about that! Wowza! Service was great. The place is small though so you may have to wait for a table and there isn't much room in the restaurant to do so. Random tip: the bathroom toilets are EXTREMELY low to the ground. I was in a deep squat to go to the bathroom. Kinda weird...not sure if this would work for you if you're not too spry. Just an odd place to go...might try and find somewhere else. read more

Scallop Gnocchi - 14 euro - Light and airy gnocchi with fresh scallops. Perfectly combined with the silky cream sauce. Tagliolini Con Le Seppie - 14 euro - Squid ink heaven! The sauce was black as ink with the best sea ocean fish flavor. The squid was nicely cooked. Pasta perfectly cooked. I have yet to find a pasta dish that was as memorable as this. We stopped by here our first night in Venice but it was so packed and the wait was too long. The second night, we tried again and got lucky when one of the reservations didn't show up. Service was very accommodating and friendly. They started us off with a complimentary canapé while we perused the menu. We selected the house red wine, which was great. I ordered the pesto pasta with green beans and pine nuts. It was very flavorful and well-balanced. It was so good, that even my father, who doesn't usually like pasta, really enjoyed it. In Venice you will find this small trattoria near the Rialto Bridge in San Marco district. This is a restaurant that gives you great seafood dishes and the best thin crust pizzas. No pictures of food in their window and no overcharge for sitting in a piazza. It does have outdoor eating because it is located on a small side street which we were fortunate to walk. You know it is good when the patrons are locals and you are away from the tourist scene. The service is not rushed and you probably will want to order more.
