I'm the owner of Rusty, the dog who passed away unexpectedly at Happy Tails and Trails on Monday. Rusty was truly one of a kind. I wasn't raised to put animals on a pedestal, but Rusty changed all of that. His disposition matched what we were looking for, and what our parenting skills matched. He was wise and respectful beyond his years, curious, playful, and incredibly friendly. Whether a strange shy human on the elevator, a muzzled pup in the street, or a tiny yappy dog, he was always able to find common ground and surprise those around him. As well, he was a good looking boy, and constantly got compliments from passers by. He was the fucking man. I received a call today that our 14 month old boy's "ashes were ready" (fuck) and we are still awaiting the autopsy report. This week sucks. Regarding the company, my wife and I became close with the owner over the past year, and have referred numerous clients. I genuinely believe she and her son (and staff) love dogs, and hate what happened. I do feel for them. The fact that Rusty allegedly was dead (with rigor mortis) for an hour before he was found and brought in to the vet is very fucking disappointing. The vet said to them quote, "what do you expect me to do to this dead dog?" This isn't to say they wanted this to happen (and I may amend this review when the autopsy report comes back), but come on, he was a 1 year old champion pup, and after suffering heat exhaustion on a very hot and humid summer Chicago day was placed in a cage (per normal procedure we weren't privy to, which we would NEVER put him in), which clearly wouldn't help lower his body temperature. His "bestie" from our building, Sully (2 months older yellow lab), is STILL in the hospital due to the conditions that day. What the fuck? This was our boy, and we entrusted his life with them. Again, I think this company loves dogs, but Marcus may be correct that they are caring for too many dogs with the staff they have. Angie was AWESOME. We were moving in to our condo and there were a ton of construction issues so Angie had to take our dogs at the last minute, and we had to extend their stay. My prior puppy was a very sickly guy so I was nervous to leave my new baby and his big sister with someone I didn't know but she definitely put my mind at ease. As someone else said, another huge perk is that she will pick up and drop off your dogs at your convenience. If you're going on vacation or are just in a panic on a daily basis like me, this is amazing. She also bathed our dogs which may not be a standard thing but it certainly made our reunion with our pups a much more pleasant experience. When I had my first pup boarded at Petco he left there smelling like a urinal and then I had to pay Petco for a subsequent grooming, which I wasn't too thriled about. LIke another reviewer, when Angie brought our dogs home to us they were not even interested in us and just wanted to cuddle with Angie! That's what won me over the most. He kept tugging at the leash trying to get over to her with more strength than I thought possible for an 11 pound dog. He was bouncing and more excited than he has ever been to see me. As a doggy momma, I was a little sad and jealous for a moment. Then, it dawned on me. My dog is in great hands and obviously having a blast when he goes to daycare at Happy Tails and Trails. First of all, please note that the address here isn't the address of the dog daycare/boarding place. I wish I had known that when I bought my YouSwoop or whichever Groupon-type thing it was. The actual location is in the West Loop near Fulton Market. I think that they don't mention this, as most of their business involves them picking up and dropping off your pets, though you can bring your pet to them. I live outside of their transport area, so I wasn't eligible for that. That said, I do have a car, so I was able to drop my dog off there. My dog stayed here for 2 nights last month - she didn't tell me either way, but she was exhausted when she came home, which is the sign that my dog had fun and is exactly what I want. My one year old high energy dog got asked to leave another day care after saying he wasn't aggressive but too active to play with the other dogs. A friend of mine recommended Happy Tails & Trails and they are the best! Angie really understands dogs and dog breeds and let's them play in a safe environment where they are allowed to just be dogs! Ares, my Doberman loved going there and would run out the door every time Angie would pick him up. Now my new dog puppy, Antares also loves going there. He comes home tired from the day and I don't have to worry about him while I'm at work. The transportation services are extremely helpful and their prices are very fair and affordable. We've been sending our Pembroke corgi here for about 4 months, and after finally needing to board him I can recommend HT&T for both daycare and boarding. He is always very excited to see Edith in the mornings In the early days, our little guy came home from daycare pretty tired and would sleep the rest of the day. Now he has built up lots of stamina so we will have to increase the number of day care days each week (were doing 1, will go to 2)! The price for daycare plus pick-up and drop-off is quite reasonable compared to other options in our area. We also left our pup with Angie to be boarded over the Christmas holiday, and he returned exhausted from his adventure but upbeat and seemingly wiser to the ways of the world. Admittedly he can be pretty stinky after 4-6 hours at day care, but baths may be included in the cost of boarding, and he came back from his extended stay fresh and cleaner than when he left! read more

I recently brought home a new puppy. My work schedule fluctuates so I needed a doggie daycare that was flexible and one that had separate care for puppies working through all their shots. I also really wanted to find someone who would care for my new puppy the way that I would. Thank goodness I found Happy Tails & Trails. Angie is that person. She is reliable and well priced. She will pick my puppy up, take him for the day, let him run around with other dogs at her facility and then return him home. She is also great at answering my new mom questions even when he isn't with her (I REALLY appreciate that).
