Every time I have come here there are extra fees for no reason. They charge late fees when they have openings. I have rude sassy text messages from them. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. I would give 1 star if just for the one time I went in to get my dog's nails trimmed, but I enjoyed working with the in-home trainer from PUPS so I'm giving 3, thankful for her efforts. I mentioned that my little 12lb dog is shy with strangers before going in, which was why I was trying to start out with nail trims before a full grooming session. Groomers have been successful trimming his nails before I moved to Chicago, and I was looking for a new groomer to work with him. I took him into PUPS because it was the closest to me, and explained that he might need some warming up-to. He took him to the back, and I can confidently say he came back out in less than 3 minutes after I hear my dog screaming and said he can't cut his nails because he resists too much. He also spoke SO quietly that I could barely hear him! After my pup got refused at PUPS, I called the a mobile groomer for the Chicago area, told him the same deal about my dog's shyness, but they did a wonderful job with his nails AND a bath. I just have to believe that there's a difference in the groomers' years of experience and how they approach different temperaments of dogs. This is the only place where they failed to cut his nails. The trainer I worked with was very friendly and great, but the groomer was unprofessional and I would dare say, not experienced enough. This happened in August 2023 but I'm finally getting to write this because I've been having such a wonderful experience with other groomers that I do want to warn other customers with shy dogs before they step in here. read more

Sorry you you weren't happy with your experience and agreed to refund the gratuity granted I was upset by this, no acknowledgment whatsoever on my dogs, injury how he was doing nothing I think if he would've acknowledged the mistake, I would've been OK with it. I was upset by the response and I let him know that via email he then called me and accused me of cussing him out which was a complete and utter lie. I am obviously upset. my dog was injured. He defended the groomer and said that my dog had a skin tag. Yes he did have a skin tag but it wasn't cut and bleeding when I dropped him off I have attached the screenshots of the email stay away from this business. I have been going to the same groomer for three years in old town but because she was sick, I decided to try them 1. I was told this would take two hours and that I would be called 20 minutes before he was done to let me know when to come pick him up. 3 hours went by so I called and was told that he's been ready for a while yet.one felt the need to call me. 2. He was damp, not fully dry, and he barely looked brushed he didn't even smell good . When I take him to other groomers, they fully brushed him out, and he looks absolutely beautiful. He was barely combed. 3. The little scarf that was tied around his neck was so tight he could barely breathe that I had to cut it off with scissors when we got home because it was choking him. 4. He had a bloody spot and skin tag from where she shaved too close to his tail and then tried gaslighting to tell me that it wasn't there when she trimmed him and it was my dogs fault because he was licking the area it was not bloody when I dropped him off so he wouldn't have been licking the area if it hadn't been cut. While I understand that accidents can sometimes happen if he had a beautiful blowout and a beautiful brush out it would've been fine but he look like crap so I want the gratuity refunded immediately $15 or I will be calling American Express to decline the gratuity. I'll start by saying this was our second visit to this location. The first time was fine. The second time not so much. She immediately questioned whether my dog was less than 30 pounds. This was the first red flag. I then told her that my dog is a goldendoodle and we did not want a poodle cut and she didn't know what that meant. This was the second red flag. She said the dog would be done with 90-120 minutes, but it took almost 3 hours. This was fine. When I arrived, she again questioned how much my dog weighed and demanded that my dog get weighed. I guess if the dog is over 30 lbs they charge more. I told her my dog was 23.3 lbs, turns out she was 23.4 lbs. third red flag. She then kept talking about how my dog has an under coat and it took longer to dry. Golden doodles don't have under coats. This is basic and common knowledge. She then Range me up and wanted to charge me more for the undercoat. I told her than an addition $10 charge was not appropriate as she does not have an under coat. They already charge a shocking $105 for a 22 pound doodle. I refused to pay the additional charge and she took the charge off. I also add that the actual groom was subpar. She had uneven hair and i told her not to shave her and she pretty much did. All the issues aside, the actual groom was not worth the $105 charge. Uneven hair, too short, not worth it. In sum, I will not use this groomer again. I may go back only because it is convenient, but I will check other options. read more

This place is the absolute worst - I wouldn't trust them with my pet fish let along my dog who I love. I brought my dog in for a 2 PM appointment for a full bath and groom. They told me it would be about two hours. Three hours later I called to check the status and they told me it would be at least another hour. I didn't have that much time so I walked over there to find my dog bathed, wet, and in a cage. No grooming had been done and she was shivering. I took my wet dog, was charged $75 for the bath, and will NEVER be using their services again. The only comment the smirking staff had was that they would appreciate it if I didn't use profanity - well, I was f'ing pissed! No apology or acknowledgment that they were late and had my 14-year-old dog, wet, in a cage! Why make an appointment for 2:00 PM if by 5:00 PM you will not have started the groom? Ridiculous. I would not go here as they are not professional - the only reason I went there to begin with was because other places were booked - not that booking them made any difference at all! We brought our 1-year old puppy to PUPS club River North and when we took him, his toes were bleeding badly. The groomer didn't even mention the accident before we noticed there was blood on the floor. They were trying to make us pay first, and hide the deep cut by putting powder on his toes without telling us until we noticed the blood on the floor. When we found out, they were not apologetic and blamed my puppy for jumping. This PUPS club's environment is not a safe environment for dogs. I would give negative star if I could. We took our dog for a cut and I showed the groomer a picture of how my dog looked when she was trimmed. I specifically said I wanted her to be trimmed and emphasized the fact that she was NOT TO BE BUZZ CUT. When I picked up my dog she had been shaved so short my dog would not walk home. She kept sitting because she felt uncomfortable with the breeze on her butt. This experience was 10 months ago and I've waited so long to share because I thought her hair would grow back and it would be fine. It's not fine. She is suffering from shock from the haircut and it has kept her hair from growing back. Apparently this shock can be permanent and her hair may never grow back. This cut ended up costing us over $120 because they made us pay and add tip before even seeing her. Please do not let them do this to your dog. read more

I spent $40 on an Uber to bring him in.. get there and it's locked/closed while grooming is going on inside. Now I am late to an appointment, have to spend another $40 to take him somewhere else, and have to pay more $ to get to my appointment. My wife and I have a Bernedoodle named Penny Pickles. Shes a great dog but was biting too much and causing a scene when we would eat dinner. We hired Michael & Alex to come over to house for 1 : 1 training. They came 5 straight days while we were at work making it extremely low lift on our end. After the 5th day, Michael dropped by for one hour to teach us numerous techniques to better support our little Peanut. Michael performed an extremely an informative meeting and we feel much more confident dealing with our little Pickle going forward. She's already shown a huge amount of improvement since Michael walked in our door - I'm writing this the next day. After two rescheduled appointments within the past week, I finally was able to get my puppy into Pups. Everything seems normal when I dropped my dog off except for the fact their A/C was out* and had fans scattered all over the floors. After 2 and a half hours I get a call and was told to pick my puppy up and that he got a gash in his paw and haven't been able to complete his haircut due to excessive bleeding. At the time Lonny was the groomer who was trying to explain the issue, an employee "Pablo" interjected and started raising his voice and started to get animated getting louder with each response. "Pablo" got so defensive he starts yelling at me and my family member. Absolute worst and scariest experience to see when you're hoping to bring your dog to a safe environment with employees who care about the animals well-being and to get that type of response is disgusting. I'll never be back to PUPs again. Sad and angry employees that take their anger out of on your pets and the customers themselves. That ended with Pablo telling me I need to take my dog to the vet asap, after 4 hours at the vet he was finally able to go home. The manager called me days later and barely apologized and told me that they cannot cover the vet bill even though she confirmed they were at fault. Never go here!!!! read more

Really wouldn't recommend this place for their puppy playtime service. The area they keep the puppies in is TINY - the glass corner in the picture is where they keep all the pups. When we took our boy there, there were 4 dogs in that teeny space! Additionally, they don't really engage with the pups or provide any kind of enrichment, just leave them to entertain themselves. When I came to pick up my puppy, it didn't seem like he had had any water, and they haven't taken him out to the bathroom yet (after 3 hours!). Naturally, all that the puppies do is stare out the window or bark at whoever enters the store, leaving them bored and anxious. However, the employees were super nice and understanding when I pulled my pup out early. The bad review is not about them, but rather the facility itself and the organization of the program. For $55, I'd expect my pup to actually get some playtime and proper care, not just be locked up in a room the size of his crate... read more

I am not sure how he was able to get her nails trimmed (she is very challenging with this). However, he successfully got her nails trimmed to a decent length. My little dog loves coming here and I appreciate having all the nice services in one spot. Months 3 and 4 were in the little puppy room where he got close supervision by the staff as he is a teacup breed and needed to be watched a bit closer than most. The staff was very understanding of his size and the circumstances. The BIG DOG room: Now that Marlin is 4 months old he gets to play in a big room and come home even more tired out. A tired dog is a happy dog. And a tired dog means I get to relax at night :) The staff is very quick to respond to any minor scuffles and always communicates. I feel comfortable leaving my dog with them and they all love my little fur baby. They also have great grooming services that provide a higher quality experience than Petco or the likes. Lastly, they have a vet on staff with a convenient Puppy wellness package that gave my little guy all of his shots in his first few months. They kept track of all of this for me, so I didn't forget. If there are any questions or concerns about the dog's safety, the owner of the shop is happy to call you directly and is empathetic of any concerns. They also have a lot of experience with the dynamics of groups of dogs and are well equipped to make adjustments. Thanks for the puppy care, the day care, grooming, and vet services Pups. Updated to respond to Dan. My dog's cases of giardia are not isolated? I have several coworkers that I actually recommend (prior to our issues) Pup's daycare to that have gotten sick and/or removed their dog from your care. That information is included in my emails to Sarah, and I am happy to make that info public. I'm also not sure why the Wicker Park Pup's location sent out an email campaign about their giardia epidemic last fall, but no communications were sent out at the other locations. Bizarre that even if one dog was infected, you wouldn't want to protect the rest of the pack, as it is so easily spread. I was more than willing to discuss all of my concerns and suggestions (several of which Sarah praised and was excited to discuss) privately, and I continued to get blown off. We're happily past this situation, however I had to share my experience at Pup's to clear my conscious, especially for fellow Frenchie owners. I know that Pup's is the only daycare option available in River North, and I truly hope they take a good, long, hard look at how they run their business. My dog was a premium member at Pup's for a year, and went 2-3 times a week. I am glad the true colors were shown and I was able to get her out of such a (literally) toxic environment. Pup's yelp page is proof enough they attack anyone with issues or concerns instead of working together to make a better, healthier environment for these dogs. ---- I am really disappointed to have to write this review, but the lack of concern and straight up negligence at the River North Pups Facility has left me no other option. I've felt extremely guilty, as I've recommended Pups to several friends and coworkers, who have also had issues and sick dogs. My dog has gotten giardia TWICE in six months from Pups. Giardia is spread through fecal particles either directly or through infected, stagnant water (aka the shared water bowl on the Pups daycare floor). My vet and I are 99% confident she is getting sick from daycare, as that is the only time she interacts with other dogs and has never been to a dog park. My real issue here is both times she got sick, Pups did NOTHING about it. At the very least, I was expecting them to email the rest of the dog owners about symptoms, prevention, treatment, etc. I've spent over $800 in vet bills and had to isolate my dog for ~15 weeks. I reached out to Pups leadership and they said 'it's just like sending a kid to daycare.' If a kid was coming home with lice or giardia (people can get it too! And did i mention it can kill you?) every few months, the daycare would be shut down. I've been doing a ton of research on giardia prevention and actually shared some suggestions with Sarah from Pups. She 'thought my suggestions were great' and wanted to meet in person to discuss them, but ignored three cordial attempts I made over the course of a week. She 'swears she responded to me, just forgot to send it.' Is everyone at Pups evil? No. Do they care about your dog? I don't think so. If you are sending your dog to daycare, learn from my mistake and educate yourself on how they prevent the spread of non-vaccine diseases like Giardia. For the record, most good daycares: - require an annual negative stool sample - communicate if/when dogs were exposed to potential diseases - track the recovery status of sick dogs - don't allow the dogs to share water! Instead provide water fountains or provide frequent, isolated water breaks - fully or partially reimburse vet bills Also wanted to share since i know their are not many river north dog daycare options, we are now a happy member of Pet Care Plus. They are located in River West but offer a super convenient taxi service, free webcams, outdoor and indoor play space, dog playgroundand a dog pool! read more

I booked a cat grooming appointment a month in advance. I got up at the crack of dawn and got to this place before it opened. Then I was told they no longer do cat grooming and forgot to notify me. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. My friend's puppy, Scout, had her first day of daycare here and left with a BROKEN KNEE. The ignorant and irresponsible staff closed a door on her legs, wrote it off as not a big deal and proceeded to lock her in a cage ALL DAY (~8am - 6pm) since she was "whining" (bc she had broken bones) allowing Scout to pee on herself and not bothering to take her out. My friend found out she had a broken knee later that day after a visit to the vet and having x-rays done. Scout is in a splint and will need surgery. The staff said it wasn't a big deal and is currently refusing to show video of them closing the door on her and is wrongfully withholding this. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOIR BUSINESS. they will neglect your pet and potentially injure them. read more

Recently I decided to see if I could possible train these two little monkeys who are 9 and 10 years old. Liz was their trainer and she was absolutely amazing and they are so much better. Not 100% but neither are humans. The boys graduated yesterday. I can't speak highly enough about everyone at Pups Pet Club. Would recommend everyone go there. Special shout out to Liz and Pablo. I used to like this daycare, until I talked with other pet parents who also had the same experience as me. My dog absolutely LOVED going to dog parks, any grassy area, and really anywhere he could be both outside and play with dogs. One day, he started acting petrified in the dog park and immediately jumped on me to pick him up. Any big dog that came near him, he ran away as if his life depended on it. After these experiences, I took him to Pups again, and noticed this is where the problem was. Because there is absolutely NO separation of dog sizes and weights, my dog is terrified of others now, and the other pet parents I've talked to have said the exact same. It's so disappointing when you put so much trust in a business and find out your pet is actually no properly taken care of. I am a new dog owner and didn't realize how much energy my little guy will have. PUPS Pet Club has done a FANTASTIC job at taking the pressure off me and try to bring him into day care as much as I can. My Shih Tzu, Gus, gets so excited when we get there in the morning for day care and love seeing how happy he looks on his report card. The groomers are very patient and fantastic to work with. Gus was matted really bad and the groomer was able to give me some pointers on how to prevent it from happening again. They are very patient and understanding. Really enjoy their service. read more

Got an appointment, but before that, they mentioned that if I canceled I must pay $45. 2 hours later they contact me saying that they have to cancel the appointment (with less than 24 hs) and that the River North branch is not getting any appointments because they are rescheduling the agenda/groomers. This was my puppy's first day care experience, and unfortunately, I would not recommend it for a new puppy owner. He was 4 months at the time and was put with the other puppies to play, but the space was very, very small. He seemed to hang out by the door the whole time which is very different behavior from his typical playful self. He did interact some with the other puppies, and the staff took the puppies out for walks frequently. But the space is MAYBE 200 square feet, with 4 puppies in there. The staff was friendly and responsive, but now that my dog is 6 months, he would be big enough for the bigger room, but I do not think I would take him back as he just needs more space to run and play. This is also fairly expensive compared to other places. I understand that dog day care is hit or miss, and it would be a safe and clean option for sure, but again, will continue looking for other options. read more

Love their Grooming! I've been bringing my border collie to Pups for roughly the last six months or so, and I absolutely love their groomers! She goes in for a bath, de-shed treatment, and nail clipping and buffering. She always smells awesome after each bath, and her whites go back to white (as opposed to Chicago-gray)! The de-shed treatments are whats up for sure! This dog, for being as small as she is, puts off a LOT of fur! Their de-shed treatments have reduced the amount of shedding I'm dealing with on a weekly basis, and my furniture and roomba are extra grateful that this exists. They also do a great job of nail trimming. I have wood floors, and they do a really nice job of buffering her nails to make sure they're "softer" against the wood to reduce the potential scratching that can occur. And finally, they are just the nicest team. Piper is not the biggest bath fan, and gets a little anxious when she realizes she's going in the back room. They do such a great job of gaining her confidence and making her comfortable about going with them. I'll be taking her there as long as we are living in the neighborhood. read more
