Had a hankering for some "Americanized" Chinese food so I stopped in for some chicken and broccoli and an egg roll. The egg roll did not have a lot of flavor but the chicken and broccoli was just how I like it. Fried rice was bland by itself but was good with some soy sauce added. Lunch took about 4-5 minutes to cook, so fast food was good to get! Beware... They add a lot of sauce and it ended up spilling out of takeout container and into the bag and than my car. Next time I will make sure that I keep the container flat so I don't have that problem. Restaurant looks pretty old but is pretty big. Bathrooms were clean but restaurant was a little grimy. I asked the owner for a menu and she said but we have a hue menu right here. I told her I wanted to bring it home Nd she did give me a huff and puff before handing it over. Although this is not authentic Chinese food I love this Happy Wok. I've been coming here for years and I don't have any complaints about this place. I brough my wife here on one of our first dates so we have that memory that makes it good too. The best seat in this little place is in the front room (the original restaurant). Everything that I've ordered here is great! Before I was married I would come here once a week. Now that we're married we come here once a month because of the busy life but if we could we would still come once a week! read more

Food is just ok. Can be greasy. Freshness is hit or miss. The woman owner is always rude and doesn't accommodate like a few of the other happy woks do. Ie she won't substitute rice noodles for rice. I would have paid more, but she huffed at me like I was burdening her. I only go to this one when I have no other choice while on the ambulance. read more

I would prefer to rate this as, 0 Stars. Food is okay but for the rudeness and non caring of the woman ( possible owner) makes it not even worth the price. I made the mistake of being non specific with my Szechuan triple crown order as far as, rice, white rice, noodles or whatever. It is under menu several different ways. It came with rice but I am mistakenly didn't inform them that I wanted noodles. The lady very rudely said that it's my fault that it was ordered that way I stated maybe she should have asked what I wanted it with, I asked either way how much would it cost to make up some noodles for me I will come back and get those and pay. She said they don't do that you have to order the whole Triple Crown noodles. I ended up hanging up on her after a little more conversing. Chef Chen is only 2 more minutes away cost a little bit more but at least is friendly and the food is definitely better. I think from now on Chef Chen will be my place to go. The food is just so-so, to be expected from Chinese fast food. But it is close and quick. I am assuming it was the owner that took care of me most recently when she acted like I was inconveniencing her by coming in to order food. The time before that, I ordered told the girl I was going next door to get some things at the grocery store, then got lectured when I got back because the food was ready and I wasn't there. Loved the hot and sour soup. Probably the 2nd best I've ever had. I said had because I will never go back. I have been having my daughter pick me up a large hot and sour soup and an egg roll at least 2 to 3 times a month for the past year or two. She brought me my soup and an appetizer sampler yesterday for lunch. I glanced at the receipt and it said egLovedg drop soup, and when I pulled out my soup, it was egg drop soup. After calling my daughter to make sure she ordered right, I've never even had egg drop soup, I called to voice my complaint and hopefully get the right soup comped to me. I have never encountered a more rude and completely overbearing woman in my life. She wouldn't even let me get a word in to explain. I had to yell over her constant insistence that she was right and "She no sell any hot and sour soup today." After going a couple rounds with her and getting very angry, which takes a lot, she hung up in my ear. I then called her right back to tell her I would never buy anything from her store again. I had the worst experience with this place tonight. I had ordered curry shrimp, kung pow chicken, and crab ragoon. When I called the very rude lady said "what is your phone number...what.is your address...what do you want" I told her all this and also gave my card number. She gave me a total but didn't confirm my order. When we received it we got curry chicken. Now I am a semi vegetarian and will not eat chicken so I was very upset and called them. When I called I said "I just ordered curry shrimp and kung pow chicken, but I got both chicken" lady says "no you said chicken!" I have been going to this Happy Wok since it opened. I love the food except the Pad Thai is always greasy. I have tried most everything on the menu and have had NO complaints. Yes, the little Chinese lady is rude but that is apropo. She is NOT the owner. The owner is tall, thin and VERY humble and polite. I have had friends that go to other Happy Woks but once they try this one, they keep coming back to the one on N. Alpine. Many of my friends come to visit from Chicago and they LOVE this Happy Wok. I don't know what all these other posters are talking about when they say the food is awful.......what do you consider good food? McDonalds? I will continue to frequent this Happy Wok until they close or I move on. read more

Rudest bitch I've ever come across. I called to order and she asked for my address, I told her and she said "ok but where close by is that?" And I said loves park (after already giving my street address) and she kept on asking where it's by very rudely. So I hung up and my mom called back saying she was rude to me and the lady mocked me saying that I only said "loves park loves park" (in a very rude mocking voice) and that my mom was a liar (for absolutely no reason). And my mom asked her "did you just call me a liar?" And the lady said "yes I did! You are a liar." Rudest person I've ever encountered. I am speechless. That was NO way to talk to any customer. Your rude service is costing you some business. We will never order from you again and your business will be going down hill very shortly. SO VERY DISAPPOINTED! We have ordered here quite a bit I might add. It's been our "go to place" on busy nights. Tonight however was THE WORST & RUDEST SERVICE we have ever had to endure. when I placed the order, I had to repeat myself 5 FIVE TIMES! The girl taking my order got it ALL WRONG. When I called to let them know, her excuse was that they were very busy. Etremely close to $35 + I was told it was MY FAULT for the order being wrong..the girl told me I could talk to her boss but.....(left me hanging). then, after 6 minutes of being on hold, she said " yeah? " I very nicely asked to talk to her boss ( the owner, as many of you have referred to as that rude Asian lady) She was no better! she said it was MY FAULT. THAT THEY WERE VERY BUSY. She did offer to "fix" my order but, I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY AGAIN. Then, SHE HUNG UP ON ME! HER/ THEIR EXCUSE? " VERY BUSY" I Explained we order often but, that would NOT EVER happen again. NEVER! This place is the worst place in Rockford to get Chinese food!!! Terrible!!! I ordered chicken egg foo young and got a egg & onion omelet that was placed on top of some cut up chicken and vegetables with the strangest gravy I ever seen. It was horrible!!!!! The rice they gave me was dry and tasteless!!! Egg rolls sucked and we weren't given hot mustard for them!!! Worst Happy Wok food ever! I realize its a Happy Wok and fast food, but I have generally been pleased with Happy Woks when in a hurry and trying to limit my spending. I thought they were all generally the same. Apparently they are not! This restaurant advertises and sells Thai Basil Chicken that HAS NO BASIL IN IT!! You read that right! I ordered the lunch for two and was excited that they had 2 Thai dishes on the menu (actually they only serve one Thai dish!). When I could neither taste or see any basil in my Thai "Basil" Chicken dish, I asked them if they left it out. The woman at the counter said "it was in the sauce." So, I sat down to eat again, thinking that maybe I just needed to stir it - but NO BASIL magically appeared. I went back up and asked the cook if she had left out the basil. She said "We DON'T HAVE fresh basil here." So, why say you have a basil dish then? Ridiculous! The "fried rice" had no peas, carrots, egg or anything in it and really wasn't fried rice. Hard to believe how bad this "Chinese" food was. Good price on the lunch special but it was not good food. Won't go back. And I love oriental food. SKIP IT! Napoli's Pizza next door has EXCELLENT pizza. Stop there instead. read more
