Took ladyfriend there. Service was spot on. Food was awesome. A good value too. But there's something more... Covid 19 protections in place at most all restaurants these days is done sort of in a "bare minimum, just jumping though hoops" manner. Not here... The waitstaff and managers seemed to take real pride in keeping the environment safe for everyone... Masks worn correctly, gloves on when cleaning and they were steadily cleaning. Came in for breakfast. I got the waffle breakfast (waffle, eggs, Cajun potatoes, and bacon). The Cajun potatoes are delicious! I put some Louisiana hot sauce in my scrambled eggs and coupled with the potatoes.. just right. The waffle was not good. Soft.. like a pancake. And the bacon seemed to be like it was cooked in a microwave. My husband had the eggs Benedict and he said they were good. First, good food. Actually, GREAT FOOD. Excellent prices. But most important -- the two young women SERVERS who managed our giant table of 14 last night (sat 4/6) were simply perfect. Friendly, professional, eager and accommodating to our desire to order together but have six or eight separate checks. they never missed a beat, kept their heads, got the orders right, kept smiling, etc. The manager came by at least twice to make sure all was well. I found that impressive too. Overly large tables are usually such a pain. Cajun seafood in east TX. Darn good and big portions. Flavor, recipes were all great. 5 out of 5. Combo appetizer plate was yummmm. Onion rings, pickles, chips/queso, and mozzarellas sticks. All fried to to perfection. 5/5 - blackened whitefish with garlic butter crab, shrimp,scallops sauce. All on top of dirty rice. Served with baked potato with cheddar, huge garlic toast and grilled veggies. Unbelievable amount of quality food. Really good. 5/5- salmon with same sauce as above. Off the charts good. 5/5 Shrimp platter- 6 large shrimp with garlic butter dipping sauce. 5/5 Steamed crab legs w sausage, corn cob, potatoes and hush puppies. Pretty large cluster of meat that was steamed perfectly so meat was sweet and tender. 5/5 service and atmosphere. I could go on..... but we were very delighted. very impressed. Great food, service and hospitality. My wife and I had a date night/cheat diet night (we are on a low calorie diet), and enjoyed fresh oysters on the half shell and a fantastic shrimp boil. Food was fresh, hot and fabulous and our server was professional, knowledgeable and sweet! Key lime pie topped off the night for us, the perfect ending. Back to the gym! read more

Getting late, so I opted for an appetizer popcorn shrimp & medium seafood gumbo. The shrimp were light, nicely seasoned, & paired well with the cocktail sauce. Now as for the gumbo...one of my all time fave foods that I grew up on & enjoy eating/cooking, this is the thickest one I have ever attempted. But in all fairness, it was near closing, so I realize I was nearing the last of it, so I won't count it against them. I just need to try that again another time. But that fork-full of gumbo gravy wasn't too bad. Will definitely give it another shot. read more

I have a strong affinity for New Orleans cuisine (Cajun, Creole, and everything in between). That being said, I don't often find (good) food from the region outside of Louisiana itself. Having never been to Tyler before, I wasn't aware of just how close we were to the border (with LA), or the Gulf. What does this mean for the hungry traveler? This is about as authentic as it gets! I guess Tyler is basically in the region, which again as an outsider I didn't know. Boy, was I happy it was, though. Fried catfish. None finer. That's a fact. I tried a little of a lot, but the fried catfish platter was absolutely delicious. Cornmeal crust, perfectly fried so it was not greasy or underdone, crispy, crunchy, but soft and fresh fish inside, and very piping hot. This was just a home run all around. For sides, I had... * Red beans and rice: full flavored! Smokey meat blends perfectly with the slow-cooked red beans. The rice was unseasoned, as it should be, but served side-by-side, so you could mix as you saw fit. Nicely done! * Cheese grits: I need to learn how to make these at home. Not just any cheese grits, but Happy's. They were... just... I mean... I don't know how they packed that much cheese flavor without overwhelming the corn subtleties of the grits. Perfect. I'd eat a plate of this alone. We started with the boudin balls, which were huge! Each one was sized about between golf ball and billiard ball. They were also very hot, fresh, and full flavored. Smokey, but subtle; spicy, but not overwhelming. Nice start to an amazing meal. My colleague ordered breakfast (not a huge seafood fan), and it came with pancakes which we totally missed. Enormous portion! Unbelievable price for the amount of food you get. It was a little price, I suppose, for the town if nothing else, but not by far expensive. Definitely not with my experience anyway. Plus, you get a lot of food for the money. The drinks are served fast and fresh, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere screams "Mardi Gras!" The zydeco music in the background was a pleasant reminder of the Big Easy, and the food completed the scene. If I'm ever in Tyler again, I'm stopping here. This is as good as what you can find in New Orleans, and well worth the trip! read more

We came here for Mother's Day and only had to wait 30 min. Once we placed our order, the food came out shortly after. We ordered the shrimp & crawfish fondue & oysters on the half shell for starters. They were amazing!! Then we ordered shrimp étouffée & gumbo with shrimp salads which were very tasty and generous portions. Everything we ordered was outstanding (grilled catfish platter - blackened, and the St. Ferdinand). The ambiance is fun and suggests it'll be a loud place, but it was pleasantly calm and quiet. Wife and I shared grilled tilapia dinner, son had chicken strips and cheese grits on side. Portions were plenty large. (We always share anyways.) Tilapia was well seasoned and not overcooked. Sides were fair to good. Chicken strips are made in-house, and cheese grits were a standout! Sweet tea is not overly sweet. Too bad we were too full for dessert as they claim home-made... Went here on a Friday night for dinner based on the yelp reviews. It wasn't too busy; only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp at the suggestion of my waitress. My bf had the seafood platter. Both dishes were really good. The portions were good and accompanied by sides. My favorite item of the night was the fried whitefish. They have all you can eat catfish on Wednesday nights that I will need to try. Food was good I had the fish and chips. The fish was pretty big and the fries were very good.

Don't waste your time or money. The seafood gumbo was loaded with salt and flour. Not to mention the over powering taste of crab boil. Next we split fried shrimp and oyster Po Boy. The Po Boy was served on fries that were either left over on a previous plate or cooked at least an hour before. The fries were tough and had clearly been reheated. Hush puppies were tough and lacked flavor. Will not return. read more

I was a little disappointed in Happy's. We had a work dinner, and my coworker picked Happy's. It was a Tuesday night, and we had a group of ten. Our waitress was pleasant and eager to please. Unfortunately the food was hit or miss. We split some appetizers, and everything I tried was good - popcorn shrimp and a Mexican shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was fresh, and both dishes were tasty. For entree I had a sort of fried shrimp and fried oyster combo. They have a platter with the two plus fried fish, and I just wanted the two, but for some reason this posed a challenge for the waitress. In the end she did a fried shrimp plate with a fried oyster plate on the side (minus the sides for one). That was fine. Unfortunately, the shrimp was just ok, and the fried oysters were overdone and just generally not good. They tasted like the oil was old and had not been changed in a while. That seemed odd, since the appetizer shrimp was just the opposite - very crispy and fresh. The oysters were different sizes (fine) but each was a large ball of mostly fried breading. The fried shrimp were better, but again just ok and not up to the appetizers. Sides were ok. I had fried okra (average), and pretty good cheese grits. A little bit of cole slaw and a few hush puppies. I wish it all had been as good as the starters. read more
