We decided to travel to Tyler for dinner tonight. This was our first time visiting Happy's Fish House and it did not disappoint. We started out with calamari as our appetizer. It was fresh and good, but pricey for the portion size. My husband and I decided on seafood and our daughter chose breakfast. The entrée portion sizes were huge and we will snack on them later. Called in an order of grits bacon and 2eggs over medium with wheat toast. Oh and a side order of bacon. I asked her do you have orange juice she replied yes. I was at shock when she advised of my total of $22 when I the menu for mammy sample is only $12 an extra side of bacon $2 and change. Baffled as why a good customer service rep wouldn't catch the order pricing when I arrived to pick up order she asked is the mammy sampler what you wanted. Well that's pretty much what I ordered and the area wasn't mad busy but she did get authorization to Re ring order up as mammy sampler. The price dropped to price suspected. Then says oh we're out of orange juice. Of course I'm thinking why it wasn't confirmed when I asked, her slight attitude told me enough. But why I didn't check my order before I left to notice that my eggs aren't the way I ordered and the grits taste like an old box. ((Sigh)) why happy's??? I love the food and the unique atmosphere. We've been there several times and find the shrimp fantastic and also one of the best Eggs Benedicts I've ever had. We've taken several couples over the years and everyone has really enjoyed the various dishes too. I've never been disappointed in the waitstaff either. They always seems to WANT to be helpful even when they are really busy. I only wish it was closer to home so I'd go more often! read more

I was in town for the overnight and wanted something other than a burger or pizza, so my sister tracked this place down on Yelp. Our table ordered gumbo, a platter with friend fish, dirty rice, red beans/rice, and sauteed vegetables, and a po' boy with shrimp, slaw and red beans/rice. My mother really enjoyed the gumbo, and my sister's po' boy looked great with the shrimp fried crispy and golden. She said the slaw was good, too. My platter had the fried fish, veggies, red beans/rice, and dirty rice. Nothing really spoke of "cajun" to me, as everything seemed to be lacking any kind of distinctive flavor. Adding liberal amounts of salt just made my food salty, not necessarily the unique flavor that you'd associate with LA/creole/cajun cooking; I was looking more for onions, cayenne, garlic, etc. I added some LA hot sauce, but it was cool/cold, so that just made my food a little more dreary. Anyway, it was kind of hit and miss, but it appears that, if you know what you're ordering, you can find some winners on this menu. read more

Creole potatoes were super good, 3 eggs Sunny side, sausage patty, biscuits, 2 pancakes. I have not eaten that much in, literally, years. I could not stop. It was absolutely delish. Jodie kept coffee topped off, warned us plates were hot, food was hot and cooked well, to order. Jodie checked on us frequently to make sure all was well. I live around the corner, and have eaten here many times. First, the good: portions are large, and there are a lot of choices on the menu. The bad: I took my elderly parents and another family member for breakfast. We were there about noon. Got served biscuits that (I assume) had been sitting on a warming tray, and were difficult to cut with a butter knife. I just ate the tops of them, as that part wasn't as chewy/horrible as the bottom. The weird: Meals are served with a fork, but no knives, so ask for one when you order. Like - sausage, biscuits, pancakes, waffles...most would like a fork to cut these with, or spread butter, etc. I've had better luck at dinner, and that might be a better time to go. read more

Found this place on Yelp and called to ask if they would prepare grilled shrimp fir my wife with only butter salt and lemon as she has pepper allergies. Happy's Fish House has great Cajun dishes. I was so glad to get this on the way out of Tyler. It was a busy place and I can see why. Happy's did not disappoint. I got the grilled shrimp bowl (not sure why they called it a bowl) with my sides of red beans and rice, and a boudin link with hushpuppies. There are a ton of sides to choose between but the boudin is the way to go. The shrimp was well cooked. I wish I had saved room for dessert! read more

Extremely overpriced mediocre seafood. Gumbo was all rice, hardly any gumbo. It was close to $12 for the gumbo and it was a bowel of rice that tasted like instant rice. They have "white fish" on the menu. I asked what kind of fish is white fish? Waitress gave me a name. Later I find out it's what Long John Silvers serves. I'm almost certain they add water to their hot sauces on the tables. I used some Tobasco and the cap as missing and it tasted watered down. This place is a joke. Don't waste your money. My husband chose this place for a early birthday treat. We had a wait period outside, but we realized that it was because they are practicing safe distancing once we got inside. Once seated we were not disappointed, we had a smorgasbord of food between the 4 of us. Breakfast food, fish, shrimp, and a platter with fish, shrimp and oysters. The dirty rice is so tasty! We ordered the raw oysters for an appetizer, and it was presented nicely. Any good Cajun place needs good boudin and good bread pudding, and they have both! We're always expecting a wait, because the parking lot is packed for Sunday lunch, but are always seated immediately. The only complaint is that the service is fairly slow, and, on occasion, we've asked for something like dessert, and when we ask again after a wait, our server hasn't sent the order back yet. I was pointed to this cozy place by some coworkers while I was in town. The atmosphere is like what you would expect in a crab shakish food spot with the campy decor everywhere. I ordered the ayce catfish special so I can show them what this Cali boy can do to the fish population in Tyler. The wait time was minimal and my food was piping hot (fish, fries, hush puppies). The plate had a very good portion of food to where fish was falling all over. Long story for me is that one plate was enough to fill me without me having the itis. My waitress Savannah was totally awesome and always checked on me. She asked me if I would like a refill on the fish but I was stuffed. I could not disappoint as hey I ordered the all you can eat so I said yes. She returned with a smaller place to which I sputter "I am going to be here til y'all close!" We came and the Tyler off interstate 20. We were hungry and looking for someplace to eat. The first place we went to threw me out because they have a dress code--I had a sleeveless muscle shirt on. Which was prohibited by the dress code-- so now we were looking for another place to eat. We found this place purely by accident. We came here instead. I'm glad we got thrown out of the other place. Stellar food and service. We've been in Tyler over a year and have ordered great take-out from Happy's, but today after church we brought our daughter and grandkids in for dinner. The service was outstanding (Sheyanne was our super friendly and efficient server), and our meals were exceptionally well prepared and delicious. Some of us had seafood plates and some had breakfast.
