Po boys are solid. Packed full of whatever you ask for and great flavor of bread and breaking on stuffing. You want the full sandwich and it comes with 2 sides. I recommend the cheesy grits made in house daily and the dirty rice has bits of veggies and meat in it. Gumbo is spicy like it supposed to be and while the large bowl is a good sized for me, the normal person can probably get away with a medium. It comes with crackers but I would get some of their sandwich bread to go with it next time Half order of pie is like a regular slice anywhere else so don't get the full order unless you're sharing or something. This is one of my favorites! I have ordered breakfast several times and was incredibly pleased, but decided to venture out and try a lunch special. I can't even remember the name of what I get - I know it comes with grilled shrimp, etouffee, hush puppies, rice, and a side. The portions are big and plentiful. I'm a bit disappointed I don't have a photo to attach - I might go back soon just to get some pics. The decor is busy but entertaining for my kids - we play "I Spy" just with the wall decor. The wait staff has always been pleasant. Even on busy days, they do their best to make sure your cup is never empty and your table is clear. On multiple occasions, I've had a man I assume to be the manager stop by and ask how our meal tasted, an effort that we appreciate greatly. I no longer live in Tyler, but still eat here at least once a month. This is definitely a family friendly place and it's worth the drive. read more

We're looking for an alternative restaurant because most of the places were closed in Mineola on Sunday night around 8 p.m. we ended up finding this place online in Tyler using Yelp. The oysters are what Drew us in. We ended up sharing a salad with three different types of prepared oysters along with some fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were good and the oysters were okay. We had probably 3 out of 10 oysters that came out rubbery. As you know oysters should not be tough but should break down easy as you're chewing them. All in all they got the job done taking care of Our Hunger so we can have a good night sleep. read more

Nice, large restaurant with several rooms to accommodate both large and small dining groups. Plenty of parking and lots of nice, smiling servers ready to feed you! WHEN YOU GO- Migas. Yes, the more traditional breakfast offerings are very good as well but for m, the migas stole the show. If you haven't had them, it's basically chillaquillas without the sauce and more cheese. Soooo good! MY other fav is the Cajun Omelet with Andouille sausage- I'd never considered using such a rich sausage in an omelet but man, it works! Was in town for business and wanted something different to eat than the typical chain restaurants. I figured I'd try this place out and feel I mad a good choice. The Margarita's were too sweet (figure they used a pre-made mix), so I switched to a beer. Ordered a little of everything. Crayfish could have been better if they weren't so dry (no juice to suck), but everything tasted well. I asked for a booth with an outlet so I could chill and use the laptop to catch up on some work while I waited and they were more than happy to accommodate me. I had oysters on my mind after talking with my Daughter in the Seattle area, we both love them and I needed a oyster fix.. So I went to Happy's Fish House and I had a fantastic early dinner. I ordered the large oyster dinner, I didn't bother to count, but there seemed to be at least a full dozen on the plate. They were the young oysters, which are the tastiest. The ratio of breading to oyster was just right, you could tell they were very fresh and made to order, they at no time were sitting under a heat lamp. I also had the Bodine sausage link as one of my sides and also those wonderful onion rings. I wanted to order two sausage's, but couldn't resist the rings. The service was on point, everyone was super friendly and the manager was always walking around touching base with everyone. As a former Sales Manager for several large companies, I love to see how companies run their business and was very impressed by Happy's. P.S. Took the family here for their first time on a Saturday about 11am. Got a table immediately. Husband had breakfast which he loved. The kids had the fish filet and chicken strip basket which was more than plenty for two kids to share. I had the fried fish which I absolutely loved. We had plenty leftover to take home. This review is based on BREAKFAST only. I arrived on a weekday just after 8am and it wasn't busy so I was seated right away. The breakfast menu is nice, they have a little something for everyone. I ordered the chicken omelette which comes with toast or pancakes. I got the pancakes and asked for them to be put in a to go container cause I knew I would not be able to eat all that food. Of course I had coffee with my breakfast. The coffee was really good and the waitress was great about keeping my cup full. The omelette tasted great. It was so big, I couldn't finish it. This is generally a good place to eat. Service is good, food is great my only complaint is their pricing is a little off. Everything is slightly higher than you would expect. For example, I had breakfast this morning and I ordered 1 extra egg. For that one egg they charged me $2.29. I can buy a dozen eggs for that price. read more

Yummy place for fish! Came here for lunch and had the catfish special. Comes with 4 sides in small cups but it allows you to have multiple tastings. I had fried okra, beans/rice and all plates come with slaw and hush puppies. Only complaint was the thickness of the catfish compared to the breading. I would have preferred more meat. Seasoning for all parts of the meal was spot on. It's served simple for lunch in a basket with small cups for sides. I saw other dishes and the gumbo looked really good. I suspect most things here are good. Overall, nice local spot with plenty of parking and friendly staff. Good food, good prices, and a great place to take your friends. Hush puppies a little small, but only in comparison to the freaking ginormously humongous shrimp and servings of delicious Cole slaw and the stuffed potato that was super bacony. Just about every time I have come to Happy's I have enjoyed the meal. Whether it's breakfast or lunch the food has been phenomenal. The chicken fried steak an eggs blows just about ever other chicken fried steak out of the water. And the lunch basket options are affordable and delicious. My personal favorite being the fish tacos. The ambiance of the restaurant is really nice and not too over the top. Parking is usually not an issue unless during peak hours. Don't go to Happys without your appetite. The food is great and the prices are a great value for what you get. I was very impressed for the price . The quality is good but not great. The shrimp and grits weren't as good as I had hoped. There were 5 medium sized shrimp with a large portion of grits, 2 hush puppies, and a piece of garlic bread - not the healthiest choice if you're watching your carbs. I asked the waitress for extra limes when I ordered my beer and she brought me one. When I asked for more, she took the liberty of personally carrying out one slice of lime out with her fingers. Not only is this tacky but unsanitary. She had just sprayed and wiped down a table... Eeew! I then asked if I get some more limes because I would probably be ordering more beer and she brought me a bowl a rotten limes...Cheers! I really wanted to try the Happys oysters (similar to an oysters rockefeller) but the price was $16.99 for five! I opted for the dozen oysters on the half shell at $14.99. Huge portions and fair pricing. Staff is friendly and attentive. Breakfast is served all day and they have a decent hollandaise sauce.

While visiting Tyler I want to have some seafood that wouldn't bust the budget and gave Happy's a try. When it comes to reasonable pricing, it usually means fried and Happy's certainly knows how to do fried. For health reasons I try to go baked of grilled and I will say my grilled fish was perfectly cooked and flavorful. One of the dings I give is the size and quality of side dishes. I had a lunch special so maybe the dinner portions are different, but my sides were very small and without much creativity. The other problem for me is the heavy dependence on plastic. I realize it is cheaper for the establishment because they don't have wash much, just throw it out. However so much plastic in our trash is really bad for the environment and we can all do something even if it means washing and reusing real plates and utensils. And please "No more plastic straws ". read more
