YUM! I love walking into a place and being overwhlemed by the smell of sugar and walls of spectacularly colored candy. This would be a great place to get gifts for people if your visiting, they have chocolate sailboats and shells and sea things, just don't let them melt in your car on the way home. I got 3 pieces of chocolate and it came out to $6.70, craxy expensive! The vanilla bean leaf could have been better I feel, but the peppermint patty and carmallow hit the spot. Oh probably the nicest local candy/chocolate store I've ever been in. They have such a wonderful FRESH selection of fudge, chocolate, candy, etc. It's just a great place to browse and I DARE you not to buy something!!! I got this nougat-nut thing (I can't remember the name) but it tastes super-sweet and must be all-sugar! I also got this thing that can only be described as a caramel-marshmallow sandwich. Looks better than it tasted, but they can't ALL be winners! They also sell those jelly-slices that I love - you know the kind that look like half-slices of orange? (or blue-whatever!). I originally found this place thanks to Yelp. I travel to Maine often for work, and am always looking for new places. I am definitely a chocoholic, and I am very skeptical of places that claim to be homemade/handmade. Not so for this place-Outstanding truffles, amazingly rich, but not necessarily overly sweet. I recommend them more than the other chocolates (except the marshmallow/caramel/chocolate concoctions, which are amazing, though sweetness overload). They are about $38 a pound, and well worth it-They come with a warning to eat the chocolates in 2 weeks, because their chocolates do not have preservatives in them. I recommend bringing a cooler with you, because the chocolates WILL melt in your car, unless it is subzero outside! I also recommend the salted chocolate bars-very creamy! They also have a decent selection of old fashioned candies, licorice whips, gummies, hard candies, etc. I have never encountered bad service, they are very careful packaging and handling the chocolates, to make sure they don't melt or damage the chocolate. This might be mistaken for slow service-Not so. All the hype is well deserved-Go here, you will never be sorry!!! read more

What a quaint little candy store with an amazing selection of chocolates, marzipan, and other delights such as fudge. I got a scotch mellow, some marzipan, and some mint chocolate fudge. The choices were endless, too bad the kids behind the counter who worked there were lackluster and threw my card back at me after my transaction, otherwise, good candy at tourist prices. And another thing, not a good idea to buy all this candy on a hot hot muggy day, my marzipan never survived the trip back. read more

And such great gifts like gummy lobsters, lobster lollipops, and locally-made jams and jellies. I Purchased a box of vegan valentine's chocolate expecting vegan cruelty-free chocolate and when it arrived, the card in it says the ingredients and there is an additional line that says "Some sugars used in this assortment may be processed with bone char"!! I notice they did not include this line in the ingredients in the description online. Not Cool!! read more

We go to Ogunquit every year, and have for 17 years. Each time we always go to Harbor Candy Shop ~ What a wonderful treat it is to go there! They have preserved the "old" candy store look...and the candy is magnificent! My favorite is the Penuche~my husband's is the Rocky Road...and our son loves the fruit slices. We popped in here on a whim, while walking through Ogunquit. Walking in, it smells like chocolate heaven. It's a pretty, well decorated store, with tons of chocolate and candy options. I saw chelate covered graham crackers and chocolate covered peanut butter cups; there were so many chocolate covered items, I was beside myself. My daughter was so excited for the white chocolate covered pretzels which were smooth and creamy, unlike most, which sometimes have that dry, hard taste. The chocolate peanut butter cups were heavenly and came in white, dark and milk chocolate options. Their lollipops were also a welcomed treat and much less expensive than I anticipated. The tasted like pure spun sugar. While the place is relatively expensive, it's expected. I mean, you're in a high-end chocolate shop in a resort town. Definitely worth a trip in and a quick taste of something decadent. Next up: fudge!!! read more

2 stars from me, all based on service. The candy is good, the chocolate is delicious. You definitely pay for it though....super expensive. However, the service really leaves something to be desired. I was there in May and they closed at 5pm. It was 4:50 and I wanted some chocolate. I went to the door to walk in and they locked it....with me standing right there getting ready to walk in. I laughed at first because I thought someone might be being funny....but no. They literally shut the door and locked it right in my face....10 minutes before closing time. Can you imagine? My family has been ordering chocolate from the HCS for years. The chocolate quality is great, but that is not what this review is about. This review is about the treatment of customers, which I would rate in the negative range, if possible. I ordered some chocolate to put in an Easter basket for family that were coming in from out of town. When I ordered the chocolate, it said on the website, "If ordered today, chocolate will arrive by Easter." Easter comes, no chocolate. I write the store expressing my dissatisfaction. I receive a call this morning from someone there indicating that the chocolate is at the post office and will be there today. I stated that family has left, and now I am left with $70 of Easter candy. The employee states, "I understand your frustration, but we did not guarantee it would get there by Easter." I am sorry, but when you write on your website that if you place an order now, it will arrive by Easter, it should arrive by Easter. The employee became argumentative towards me ranting about how they cannot control what happens when the chocolate leaves the shop. I told her I would not be ordering from the shop again and hung up, which I am not proud of and feel bad about. However, I feel as if I am not in the wrong here. It was clear to me that this store could not care less about customers, or maybe I do not spend enough for them to care. Either way, they have poor business ethics, in my opinion. This is a service business, and the treatment I received was absolutely wrong. I will not be ordering from here any longer, and I will make sure my family and friends do not as well. I want to be clear that it is not what happened that makes me angry, it is the response of the company. I just love the chocolate, and the fact that you can buy packaged or individual items. They also have a lot of non-chocolate candy. They have the self-serve bins which is always nice. The staff is always pleasant, too! read more

For the quality the prices here are very reasonable. I LOVE chocolate, but I'm very particular about my chocolate, and most things don't appeal to me (quality not good enough, too soft, too sweet, not sweet enough, wrong texture, etc) but I tried a few things here that were very good. The almond bark I got tasted a little stale, unfortunately, but the chocolate caramel marshmallows were amazing--perfect texture and freshness. It is the only place where I have seen jellies - pieces of made-on-premises square soft delectable fruit confections. 12 flavors including lime, pomegranate, and blueberry. Oh yeah, they have awesome chocolate and candy selections that are guaranteed to raise your sugar level with a smile and leave you with the feeling of being wrapped in a warm blanket at grandma's house. Was yelled at while trying to order chocolate as I had an umbrella stroller with my child in it. The blonde older woman working, which I'm assuming is the owner was extremely loud ( I'm not sure why she had to be so loud as there was only myself and my child and two other people in the store) saying I can't be in the store as strollers are a fire code violation and to leave. I didn't say anything as I was horrified at the way she treated me. As I turned to walk out of the store she kept going saying the sign is small I know but you can't have your stroller in here. I still didn't say anything. There was no need to be hostile and seeing as there was no one in the store how is an umbrella stroller which is the size of a another person so big it isn't allowed in a store? I will spend my money somewhere children are allowed in a candy store. Parents put kids in strollers so the my don't touch everything and a candy store attracts children right? I would understand if the place was busy or if I had a huge stroller. Thank you lady for embarrassing me for no reason and for saving me money to spend at a store that wants customers! read more

This is the worst candy! We bought chocolate dipped orange slices, chocolate dipped apricots and some walnut fudge. Unfortunately, Byrne and Carlson Chocolatiers in Kittery was closed for the season so we thought we would try Harbor Candy Shop. What an abysmal disappointment. The chocolate on the fruit slices is brittle and not flavorful. It doesn't even "melt" if you hold it. And the apricots have no flavor at all. We always get our fudge at Yummies in Kittery but thought we should try Harbor's. It is tough and the chocolate doesn't even melt in your mouth. Yummies fudge is buttery smooth and melts in your mouth with a wonderful chocolate flavor. We like to buy local where we live but this is one place I would never bother with again. read more

As a long-time (over 20 years) customer, I have been disappointed to watch the slow decline of this wonderful store. They still do some things VERY well - I would do just about anything for their caramellows - but the quality and selection is not where it was. The bulk candy that they don't make - a large portion of their offerings these days - is rarely fresh even in their peak season. They've started hiring exchange students in the summer, so communication is an issue. The employees are rarely happy, usually congregate in the center behind the counter and talk with their backs to you - good luck getting attention. And you never see one on the sales floor to ask questions, get help, or even to see them neaten and clean up the place. Their items are things that we eat, and much of it is not individually wrapped. Hygiene is a huge concern, and it is not well handled. Don't bother talking to the owner though, not even to say hello or compliment her shop, she is rarely pleasant and never has a smile or nice word to offer - not that she is in the shop ever, which might explain the staff issues. read more
