The place is filthy. Had we seen the restrooms before dinner we would have walked out. I have seen dirty roadside gas stations with cleaner restrooms. it was shocking. the shrimp and the grouper tasted like it had been frozen. The house salad was 4 canned mandarin oranges with bottled Italian dressing. a couple of almond slivers too. This was basically the highlight of the meal. I can't understand why someone would enjoy this food. maybe it has changed. oh, the staff was a group of teens hovering around the front desk. This place would never survive Atlanta diners. went up the street to McGuires to try to have dinner after paying for dinner at Harbordocks. McGuires was good. read more

No stars!!! Horrible server takes our order for drinks and food.. returns with drinks and nothing else, after a 30 min wait I ask to speak with a manager. She goes to the table next to ours. They arrived after us, placed their order, consumed their food and recieved their check! I had to summon her to our table to inform her of my concern. She tells me she will look into, however goes to the bar and starts bartending. No follow up response, no service!! Horrible experience will not return, very unprofessional!! Very impressed with this American-style fish & sushi restaurant on the water. I love that from the outside the restaurant looks very unassuming like a hole in the wall shack (which adds to the mystique). But once inside, it has a very classy but yet also very homey feel with its wood decor. And indoor seating overlooking the water adds much to this ambience as well. The food tasted high-quality & was delicious: the crispy tuna sushi hand roll, the blackened grouper & the blackened red snapper - both deliciously juicy & tender & milky. The signature cocktail menu could use a boost, but at least they have a full bar. read more

We came for lunch during the week. They had a specials menu out front, however, when we tried to order a couple specials, we were told they were out of them. They should have updated the menu sign (which was chalkboard). The water tasted salty. I got a fried seafood plate and the taste of everything was average. Nothing stood out to me that made me want to come back. I've heard their sushi is good and would be willing to try it at some point. read more

This was my favorite place 8 years ago. Visiting town and have already been back twice. Greyhound and Destin Donkey we amazing. Blackened snapper was very good but left the cheddar grits in the plate. Tasted my friends sashimi plate and was really surprised and how good it was. Long wait, great view and drinks. read more

Food was fantastic. We liked it so much we came back again while we were in Destin. We had the smoked tuna dip, fried trigger fish, fried shrimp, fish tacos, and burger. It was all very good. The food was absolutely horrendous. Not even close to quality seafood. Got the shrimp and grits. Or, rather, the "frozen" shrimp and grease. Literally, a bowl of grease. Chef's platter, aka fire the chef. The fish was dry, poorly seasoned, and really just a lack of trying all together. The service was okay at best, nothing great though. We are a family of four and we saw another table come in after us, party of five, they received their drinks, food, check, and left before we did. That can be the difference between servers, so it happens. The food is okay and there are much better places to go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The quality and quantity of food doesn't justify the cost. Wow! People here are recommending Captain Dave's and The Back Porch over Harbor Docks? A lot of people don't realize that there are only a few places in Destin to get fresh seafood, and those places aren't on the list. Ask the locals where to go for fresh seafood and Harbor Docks will be at the top of their list. If you want to save a buck, avoid waits, have an ocean front view, or enjoy a Applebees type of atmosphere, there are other places to choose from. For delicious food, try the chef's plate at Harbor Docks! A must during any Destin vacation. read more

Really poor customer service experience trying to book a group dinner. I contacted them via their website in early December and didn't receive a response. I finally received a phone call a week later after a friend of the owner mentioned to him that I was trying to get information. They emailed me information, which I responded back to with a question. It took them a week to get back to me with an answer. I emailed back again and another week went by without a response. I had to call up there and the manager, Dawn, said she would check with the owner and let me know. Which means that a week had gone by and she hadn't checked on my questions at all... It took another two weeks for her to get back to me with an answer. By this time I had already assumed that they were never going to respond and contracted with another restaurant that responded quickly and courteously. It worked out because they weren't able to accommodate my request anyway, which I understand, but it's absolutely ridiculous that it took them over a month to respond to me about a fairly simple request. Would not recommend this restaurant for groups!!! read more

Ok so it started good greeted by friendly host got seated server came got us drinks then came the food we got spaghetti and three rolls omg the sushi was obviously made by a amature not qualified for the job! It was a size of a nickle... Tiny that wasnt the bad part thr avacado was brown and the fish was very fishy im from california so i know my sushi! Told the waiter about the rotton sushi and he says " ill ask the chef" without taking it away he comes back and told us if we wanted avacado on the side NO....!!!!! Take this away and give us a new one even though we would never eat it so when we decided to leave hes nowhere to be found and so we ask the host to find him anyways horrible we will never eat here! Harbor Docks was recommended to us by friends on Facebook while we were in Destin FL for spring break. Eager to enjoy seafood again, we arrived when the restaurant was not full on Easter Sunday. I should have known it was going to be along nite when it took our waitress about 10 minutes to figure out we were there. When taking our order, she was clueless about the fish specials-said the Cobia 'tastes like chicken' and did not also tell us that there was an up charge for the market specials for the night. It took over an hour for our food to be served, we were not checked in on, and after talking to the manager who gave us excuses about not having enough help, they finally served us. The food was not special, the sushi was better, and the manager took half off our bill for the fish specials-which really did not make up for the poor service-the manager was not as apologetic as she was making excuses. Next time it's back to the Back Porch for fresh seafood and great service! read more

If I could rate this place lower than a one, I sure would. Absolute worst dining experience I've had in years, if not ever. Dined there on our last night of our Destin vacation on 9/23. Wanted to try something new, so went here over Dewey Destin's. WRONG CHOICE! We got there at 8:45 pm. Our waitress did not give us her name and had ZERO personality. My sister and I ordered the paneed chicken and fried shrimp to split. My mom ordered the filet, medium well. Before dinner, we got a really good salad and rolls that came with our meals. The atmosphere was great being outside next to the docks. We thought it was going to be an awesome experience. Our meals came. My mom's steak was completely well done, tough to cut, with no pink on the inside at all. We urged her to send it back. She informed the waitress her steak was well done when she ordered medium well. The waitress told her it would be awhile for her food if she wanted to send it back, like she expected her to eat it. My mom sent it back anyways as she did not order it that way. And we felt if you are paying THIRTY DOLLARS for a steak dinner, it should be cooked to your order. The pasta dish was warm, not hot. We expected it to have a lot of flavor since it said it was a red pepper sauce. Did not have any flavor. The shrimp was actually good. I am a very slow eater and my sister and I both finished our meals before the new steak came. So, my mom ate alone. I had a glass of wine. The waitress never asked me if I wanted another one. I also ordered a coke. It was gross and I took one drink and sat it to the side. She never asked me about it. My sister had to ask for her second beer. After my mom finished her meal, we waited for probably 20 minutes for the checks. The waitress finally came out with them. They did not discount the steak at all. We felt like since it wasn't cooked appropriately and we had to eat separately they could've given her a bit off of it. She asked the waitress if she could ask the manger if he would discount her meal. The waitress said she didn't know, but she could ask. Waitress came back and said that the manager said no, since it was cooked right the second time. We will NEVER be back to this place. I'm a manager at a customer-oriented business and I can't believe how horrible the service and management were. Was literally appalled and couldn't quit thinking about it. My aunt was having a birthday celebration in Destin this weekend and 20 women were going to be there. Harbor Docks could've had their business but thanks to our lovely time there, they didn't dine there. I will tell everyone who vacations there to avoid this restaurant! read more

Have been coming to HD for many years.. but something is wrong now / went for lunch today about 1145 / not crowded / got a seat on the harbor / we were totally ignored by 2 separate waitresses who were waiting on tables right beside us / again, not crowded - one table came in AFTER us and she immediately waited on them / they could've at least spoken ? Said we'll get someone for you ? Nothing. We left. And won't be back. Very disappointing. Had a great lunch elsewhere. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service that I believe I've ever experienced. After waiting for over an hour to be seated, it took an additional hour and twenty minutes for the food to arrive to the table. My brother-in-law asked for water and tea refills after not seeing our waitress for 35 minutes. The female manager did come out to apologize but used the "f" word in an attempt to be humorous. I was absolutely shocked since the entire family was present. I can't believe that this restaurant is remotely associated with Chuck's in Birmingham. I will never go back! read more

First time to post a restaurant review.....if you enjoy the following, you'll love this place, if not, there's lots of other really good options to eat dinner: A) Once seated at 9pm, it took an hour and 20 min to receive our food order. B) A member of our party went to find our waitress after she hadn't been by to refill our drinks after a 35 min period. He located her near the waitress station with purse and car keys in hand stating her shift was over and another member of the staff would take over. 15 minutes later we finally had our tea and water glasses refilled by another waitress. C) At 10:20 pm we received our food order. After we finished our meals, we realized we never received our salad.....but we were sorta over it by then. D) The restaurant manager (female) visited our table to apologize for "things that happened which were beyond her control".....that's all cool but it wouldn't hurt to read only 1 book about "customer service". Fortunately there wasn't any one younger than 19 at our table so it probably wasn't the first time that they had heard the "F" word.....we were just taken back a bit that she used that type of language with a group that was clearly having a family dinner. Disappointed and under-whelmed are just a couple of words that come to mind when thinking about our experience at Harbor Docks. Hard to believe that this restaurant group owns Chuck's in Bham and Tuscaloosa. read more

Just moved here from Las Vegas. Struck out a couple places on sushi and talk to some locals and they swear by this place. The atmosphere seems like a beach restaurant, which isn't a bad thing, but surprising to be a predominately sushi restaurant. Either way we were set quickly and given menus which had a full page dedicated to their sushi options. I ordered about four rolls and two entrées to get a broad experience for their menu. The first major problem that I had was that the Philadelphia roll had green onions in it. Also had another role, can't remember the name, but it had barbecue sauce on top of it (wasn't eel sauce). The other two rolls that we had were good. I had some tuna nigiri and the pieces of fish were humongous. The overall quality of the fish was pretty fresh, but the experience lacked find details comparable to a more seasoned sushi restaurant, like in the West Coast. Probably won't be going back for sushi. read more

Came here tonight with my husband and our 2 children, and another couple. The food wasn't bad it was actually pretty good, but our server Alex was totally lame. Our bill was $191.00 before tip and he dropped it while 5 out of the 6 of us were still eating our entrees. He didn't ask if we wanted desert and probably could made more money by asking about more drinks, coffee or desert... They advertised homemade ice cream and it sounded awesome. Brought in fresh Cobia steaks to the restaurant and they some how turned them into over cooked belly fillets. Had a great experience at lunch such a shame we got ripped off at dinner when it was the special of the day for $34 and cook your own catch is $19 a dinner. The made plenty of margins tonight selling the free grade A fish to top paying customers and serving the low level meat to the customer expecting their fresh catch for dinner.
