I like Lowe's. I usually go here every April for their mulch sale. Much cheaper than Home Depot…read more This year, they didn't have anyone outside to help load the bags, but that's okay. Their prices are roughly comparable to HD and Ace Hardware. The selection of wood stains could be better. They only carry two brands, and not a huge selection of colors. But they DO have the option of mixing your own stain. I have been terribly busy lately, and one thing that I've been doing is stripping, refinishing, and reupholstering furniture. I decided to buy an orbital sander, since a palm sander isn't always the best choice. Joe, in the tool department, was AWESOME. DeWalt is the gold standard. They have a deal where if you buy the tool, you get the batteries free, or vice versa. The sander is $169. Batteries are $199? But there was also a Craftsman deal. Buy battery for $99, get $59 tool free. So, since I'm not a professional, Joe and I agreed this was the better deal. I went to the register, and everything rang up at full price. The battery was $139. Ack!! Joe went to get the sign advertising the deal. He had to cut it down. And on the sign, in tiny print that neither of us had noticed, was the expiration date of January 3rd. Because the sign was still up, I was allowed to get the deal. Woohoo! I really appreciate that. Very good customer service from Lowe's, and Joe in particular. Lowe's is a gigantic and very well-stocked store. But it's really the people that make the difference. There was also a nice lady in the paint department who helped me choose a stain.

I don't know where to begin, because Lowe's has managed to fail us at absolutely every single stage…read moreof what should have been a straightforward appliance purchase and delivery. If I could rate negative stars I would. As first time homeowners we thought Lowe's was a great start to help us with our appliances and other home improvement needs.... But rest assured we will NEVER shop at Lowe's again. We ordered appliances and had them delivered on a Friday (06/19). By that night, we had already discovered a defect in our dishwasher. Fine, these things happen, no problem, right? Except nothing about Lowe's response was fine. First, the delivery crew was a third-party "Professional" contracted by Lowe's, they apparently decided that the cardboard boxes and packaging waste from our haul away were someone else's problem. Some time over that weekend, they illegally dumped our trash in a STRANGER'S private dumpster, with my personal information plastered all over those boxes. That stranger texted ME and demanded I come retrieve it immediately, the "or else" could be inferred. My husband and I had to take time off work and drive 40 MINUTES to go pick up trash that Lowe's contractors were paid to dispose of properly. This is not just unprofessional -- it is illegal dumping that exposed our personal information to strangers. Meanwhile, I spent hours going in circles with multiple customer service representatives, each one more useless than the last. One rep had the audacity to tell me they needed to give the third-party contractor "an opportunity to fix" the appliance. I made myself crystal clear after that disgusting display of stupidity: I did not want a repair. I did not want those same two people; the ones who illegally dumped our trash, back in my home under any circumstances. I wanted the appliance removed and a full refund. That's it. And yet they kept pushing back. Then came the argument about the installation fee. They actually wanted to debate whether they could refund the install cost because the appliance had already been installed. Their contractor installed a defective appliance, illegally dumped our trash, exposed our personal information, and Lowe's response was to nickel-and-dime us over an install fee. They should consider themselves lucky that a refund and pickup are all we were asking for, we weren't even seeking compensation for the hours of work missed, the 40-minute drive, the stress, or the fact that we had to store their contractor's illegally dumped trash in our home for almost two weeks. By the time corporate customer service finished wasting my time, the 48-hour return window had lapsed and I had to contact the physical store directly just to get the process moving. The washer and dryer were their own headache -- they delivered the wrong washer and suggested I just "pick a different one," since the one I ordered was out of stock. I refused, they retrieved both units, and we got a refund. Hallelujah. The day the defective dishwasher was finally scheduled for pickup -- I received an email informing me the third-party carrier simply didn't put me on their route. Another week of waiting. Another week with a defective appliance in my home and their contractor's illegally dumped trash that I had to retrieve myself. Every single link in Lowe's chain is broken: their contractors, their customer service, their logistics, their communication, and their accountability. At no point did anyone take ownership of a situation that was entirely of their making. If you are considering purchasing appliances from Lowe's -- please, learn from our experience. Shop literally anywhere else.
