When I first started shopping at Harbor Freight Tools several years ago, I confess that I was primarily motivated by my desire of saving the most $$ I could on the hardware/tool item(s) I was hunting for. I think that the store has always had plenty of variety for almost all my needs, and so very nice promotional sales on items, and it's become even better in that regard over time. That said, in those "early days" of my shopping experience at HFT, I was NOT nearly as impressed by the customer service in the store. I pretty much had developed the mindset back then that "I'm on my own" as far as getting information or guidance about a particular item e.g overall usage tips or comparison to other options for the item in question. The latter issue/concern/minus points that I've just outlined has changed by, well, light years in my opinion. During my recent visit(s) to the Valencia store, (the most recent was this afternoon, to purchase a replacement smoke detector), I was very, very pleased and impressed by the willingness of the service/sales employees to provide assistance, and, what's more, their take the time and effort to check the available information available about the product application/usage on-line that they may not have immediately at their fingertips. In a nutshell, HFT (at the Valencia store at least) has moved up to fully earn my 5-star rating Don C. read more

I used to shop at Harbor Freight Tools all the time, but have been disappointed with many of their products my last few purchases. Today, I went into this location to purchase a corded hand drill. I actually located a couple on the return items table, which I thought looked pretty good. I contacted the employee and asked if these worked? I was told that she did not know. I then asked if I could plug it into the outlet to test it before I purchased it. The employee me that she would have to ask the manager. Apparently, after talking to the manager, I was told that I could not test it and that I could return it in five days if it didn't work. Who the hell wants to drive all the way back there in case this item did not work? The reason I was told is they were afraid of liability. I asked if the manager could plug it in and test it. I was told no. In fact, the manager never even came out to talk to me. What a screwed up way to do business. The customer service at this location absolutely was absolutely horrible as was the attitude of the employees. You can't plug this item into the wall just to tell me if it works? What a complete joke. I told the employee that I would be spending my money at a real tool store. I am done with this location. Their actions are completely shameful and higher management should absolutely do something to these employees, as they didn't give a complete shit whether to make a sale or not. read more

Let me start off with how horrible the customer service is here! I'm a pretty patient person but when they have you on hold for 40+ minutes for a sku check it's pretty obnoxious. I feel like they expect you to forget about it and hang up. Within the time I was on hold I was able to just drive up see the same person who put me on hold (Genesi) just hang out at the front door. I asked for a manager to help me out and (Able) the manager was able to find it within 5 minutes. I told him the issue and he did not seem to care just left the dolly with my item on it at the front door for me to load up on my own. They need to know how to value their customers by at the very least help me load the item or simply offer a compensation. The fact that I was able to do all this on my own, be in and out and still be on hold makes me question the management team or people who train these associates. I would now truly just spend more at a competitors store to save my time than to be sitting around and forgotten about. read more

I was looking for a 20V Potable Bauer Power Cleaner (Item 59788) in the Valencia Store since May 2025. I called every Monday after 1 pm to check for shipment. In August, the store manager advised me to buy it on line since they cannot get a shipment for the past 3 months. I took his advice and ordered it on line and paid the shipping cost $9. The item arrived on 15 August 2025. I opened the box and hooked it up to see if it works. No, it leaked water when connected to the water hose. I saw a Manufacture Defects right away. Drove down to Valencia Store and showed them the defected item, they agreed on the defects and gladly refund the money. However, they will not return the "shipping" cost, saying it is the store policy not to refund the shipping cost for any item bought on line even customer received a broken part. It does not sound right, the store policy one size fit all for not retuning a defected item is not a good business practice. Besides, Harbor Freight should disclosed this policy on line and let customer evaluate the risk before ordering. I understand Harbor Freight discourage on line ordering and encourage costumes to show up in store. But in this case, the item was out of stock for 3 months and per the advice of the store manger to order on line. Harbor Freight should allow the Store Manage to have some discretion and trust their judgments so they can have more repeated customers. By the way, did anyone notice Harbor Freight charged Sale Tax for just joining the Inside Track Club? Amazon, AAA. Costco, Walmart never do! (seems strange indeed!) I always find something I can use when shopping here. I mainly go for my husband. One time I bought him Daytona GoJacks and they worked perfect and got them for a great deal. They always have good sales going on and the store is always neat and clean. The parking lot has plenty of parking, but beware when trying to pull out during rush hour onto Valencia Blvd, it's super busy. read more

Upon entering the store, we were greeted and welcomed by a friendly employee named Amanda. We told her we were looking for an electric hand sander, in a very friendly manner, she told us what aisle it was on and if we needed help she would have someone there to help us. We made our way down the aisle and found them. Upon check out, it was Amanda, she certainly went the extra mile. We had few questions regarding the sander, which she answered and she offered the extended warranty, which we decided on. We had questions regarding membership and opening a credit card. Amanda was very patient and very professional and we ended up opening up a membership and the credit card. So. I'm not a handy guy by any stretch of the word. But I really do love Harbor Freight. Some time ago I signed up for their coupon list. I absolutely love their coupons. The store by me is always pretty clean, and super organized with their stuff. I usually have no idea where things are, but thankfully the employees are super friendly, on the ball, and know exactly where each and every thing I ask for is. Every time I get coupons I end up buying things I really don't need. But I've been clever and found tons of non-tooly uses for tooly things. While at work, I had amassed a huge pile of binder clips. I got the coupon book? Boom. Now all the binder clips are stored in an ammo case. Three dollars. Another example; I had a large collection of game pieces. Boom. Tool case with compartments for dice, figures and other tiny bits for gaming. I used to have a "big bag o' random junk." Now? I'm super organized with a handy tool case. I've got a fairly huge collection of cards for collectible card games. A different style of tool case was perfect to store them all. Yet another example.....uh....ok. I just got the machete because it was $4.99. Come on. Who doesn't want an 18 inch serrated machete with sheath for that price? I mean really. Bargain. I highly recommend people go to Harbor Freight. Greetings and Happy Holidays! Stopped by Harbor Freight (first time) to pick up an inexpensive, one-time use hammer drill. Mixed bag in this review... Store 5-Stars: Clean, well stocked and easy to navigate Staff 5-Stars: Had someone greet us as soon as we arrived, we asked for directions to a specific product (hammer drill). He knew exactly where it was and directed us there. The cashier was efficient and friendly. Covid 5-Stars: All employees wearing masks. Cashier station had plexiglass barrier. They had a makeshift counter extension to separate the customers from the cashier, and we noticed that it was wiped down with disinfectant after every customer. They had six foot spacing stickers on the floor. Advertising Oops. Really bad. Drill was on their website Friday 12/4 for $19.99. After looking at it, got some Facebook follow me ads for a 25% off coupon, and specifically that drill at $14.99. Printed advertisement. When we went to pay, it rang up at $17.99, even though I received a $14.99 price on Sunday morning, same day we visited the store. There was a coupon code. Ad said $14.99, price was $17.25. What they did was raise the price to $22.99. so the coupon code deducted 25% from that price. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy. In all fairness to the cashier (who was just doing her job and had nothing to do with this), and to the people standing behind me in line and to my own sense of "what is worth arguing over", I paid the store price. At $17.25 it is the cheapest hammer drill in the world, and the extra $2.25 wasn't worth arguing over, even though the ad clearly showed $14.99. I spend more than that for a coffee. I had driven by Harbor Freight on many occasions but I needed some extra tools and safety equipment and my friend had said that I should check them out. Being that it is right on my drive to and from work it was easy for me to stop in. Note that this is on a very busy part of Valencia Blvd and at a curve in the road so be careful on the entrance and exit of the lot. I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed with the smell of tools and hardware...you know that smell? I worked in a small hardware store back in Texas when I was a kid and it smelled just like it...ah memories. So the first thing after the smell I noticed was the huge aisles filled with items of every type of thing that I have been buying elsewhere, but soon saw that I should have been buying here. I wandered around for about 15 minutes or so since I was only coming in for one thing and left with three. But this is a definite must if you need safety equipment items for a job site or tools of any type for what appears to be any job. Big selection and a lot of items on sale. read more

When we got there 20 minutes later amazing none on the floor would have to be ordered! So of course, coupon could not be used! What a racket! If I could give zero stars, I would! People who care about finishing their automotive, home improvement or construction work come here because the tools are good enough. Do I care that my wrench is chrome finished and has a brand name stamped on it? Heck no. I care that I can rebuild my cylinder head and I'm back on the road. The HFT torque wrench is just as accurate as my Snap-On, yes it's true. You'll find good enough tools and good customer service at fantastic prices. read more

Great place for people who like to DIY or just tinker and learn some basic repairs around the house. With HFT you can grab some decent tools and get going on your project. Most of the tools are pretty good and the prices are even better. Some can be of cheaper quality and motors can burn out sooner than higher quality tools - but hey you get what you pay for. And for most people just doing minor repairs or quick weekend warrior backyard projects, the tools are great. The staff is friendly and helpful, although I wish there were a few more registers open when the line backs up. I don't know how many times I'm behind a person who is doing a return and then buying a new item with the coupons. Just open another register for those of us who are ready to pay. ;) This location seems good sized and well stocked. Aisles are clean and organized so browsing and finding things are a breeze. Gotta love the coupons too. You can always find a 20% off plus get a free gift! read more

I have bought from Harbor Freight over the years when decent quality tools and products at low prices fit the need. I have always appreciated the value they offered. Unfortunately I recently made a small purchase of 2 kitchen scissors and 3 retractable dog leashes. Within 3 months both scissors failed, including one handle breaking and cutting my hand. Also 2 leashes failed, one the line broke under light use, and the other the rewind stopped working. I am posting this because the comment option on the website also isn't working. Sold me a used product that they obviously had accepted a return as new and for full price. Got the Item home and it was filthy, unusable and unsafe. Called to speak to a store manager and was sent to a person named Arielle. She is in fact not the general manager but a supervisor. Called corporate office where I found out this information. I escalated the claim to district a manager. She refused to help even though it was her employees who repackaged the item, put it back on the shelf and then sold it to someone who drove over an hour each way to purchase it. Disgusting customer service skills. This is where you go to buy any tool you can imagine for a very affordable price. They have power tools, hand tools, machine shop equipment, and various tools for your typical DIY'er or the professional. Some people express concern that their power tools, made by Chicago Electric, are poor quality, but I have yet to experience any issues with them. Make sure you join their email list because they will send you amazing discount coupons regularly. For example, I have been eyeing a 15 gallon air compressor that usually costs $230. I received an email for a 3 day sale where I could buy it for $130! They always have amazing blow out sales so be sure to get on the list. They have a great 90 day return policy with receipt which is great. Also, they offer a lifetime warranty on all of their power tools. The store is organized and clean. Lines can get long on Sale days, but they have enough cashiers to move customers along quick enough. Most of the cashiers that I've seen are happy, are sure to greet you and ask if I was able to find everything I needed. I still rather go to Home Depot or Lowes, but it seems that Harbor Freight Tools always has the one thing that every other retailer doesn't and at a better price than online, which is why I keep coming back. You can almost always catch a sneaky 20% off in the emails they send out or the coupon papers available when you first walk in. The manager also hides behind his totally non-recognizable (being sarcastic), giant two-way mirror. I literally chuckle to my self every time I see it. It's stupid. One of the workers have actually encouraged me to write this review today, and it was a rather uncomfortable and negative experience. A lady came up in the middle of my transaction and kindly asked if the specific flood light she was holding was recommended and would generally hold up well. NICK, said he didn't recommend it at all. She asked if he had any recommendations on similar flood lights, and he literally laughed at her and said he's never even seen nor used those lights. Not only I, but looking at the facial expressions of the people behind me, we all were uncomfortable. NICK even wrote her off like she was a piece of shit in front of everyone in the middle of her response and continued on with my transaction asking if my day was going well. It was going very well until I saw the poor lady just walk away with her cart without answers. Look, if you can't answer the questions a customer is asking, call a manager over or ask an associate rather than literally laughing at the customer and continuing the "Wannabe cool guy ego". It's not hard at all. I felt extremely compelled to turn around and help the woman, since she clearly looked like she didn't know what she was doing, and was most likely buying for her husband/Christmas. I was amazed at the large collection of visibly cheap Chinese made tools. You don't have to buy snap on or other brand names to get good tools. Other stores carry decent private label tools that will fulfill the needs of most homeowners. Personally, I prefer to invest a bit more because tools should last a lifetime. That being said, the product here appears to be mostly junk. If you are looking to save some money, check the web for some great deals on tools. The last several times I have come into the store, however, I was met with poor attitudes and virtually no customer interaction between cashiers, managers, and customers. Cashiers did not know how to say "thank you" to customers who just made a purchase... a pretty basic courtesy when someone patronizes your store. Well, no more... not with Mark- the cashier I encountered today. He greeted me in a very friendly manner as I entered, and thanked me for my purchase at the conclusion of the transaction. I tried to buy an 8 drawer wood tool box there today. They did not have this item in the back and refused to sell me the floor model, which I was willing to buy on a no-return basis. They suggested that I drive down to Sylmar - an hour away - to buy the tool box there. Instead, I went home and bought it online. Does not honor advertised prices unless you take the advert with you (difficult when it is on your desktop computer). The item I went to purchase had a 25% higher price shown in store as the "advertised price" than the price shown on my computer. They have an interesting selection of gadget type of tools at good prices otherwise I would have rated them a 1 star for breach of trust. read more

I have friends who are reluctant to shop here because they are worried about quality, but I've never had an issue with this. Don't try to return anything without a receipt. I purchased a hand sander whose clips broke immediately. I taped the sandpaper onto it and gave it a try. After two minutes I gave up. That was a couple of weeks ago. When I tried to return it tonight, the manager said I couldn't get store credit because the tool was "used" and that I didn't have a receipt. I said i had to use it to find out it was broken! If I knew it was broken, I would have returned it unused! He said if I knew the day and time I bought it, maybe he could look it up. That's all well and good, but most stores give you credit for inferior products that don't do what they're supposed to do. So now I'm out what I paid for it and I'll never do business there again. Average parking, but it's in the same shopping center as the 99 cent store, so it can get crowded. It's a small to medium size store that had limited hardware items. They have a house brand (Pittsburgh) that are average to below average quality. They also have a "pro" brand that costs a little more and are a little better quality. If you need a tool to fix something once or twice, this is the place to go... They probably won't last very long. Just remember the old saying about "buyer beware"... Applies here. They have weekly ads in the newspaper and magazines and coupons, etc. they usually offer a free item with any purchase.. Pretty good deals on Chinese imported tools. You can pick up a small compressor or generator for around $70! Can't beat that. They have a bunch of power tools that can be very handy for the do-it-yourself types or hobbyist. I purchased a cordless reciprocating saw, used it once then after a couple of months tried to use it again. The battery would not take a charge. Went in to store and manager said not carrying any more and sent me to site. Found nothing on site. Called Customer Service 3 times and Parts, 3 times and each time waited on hold for more than 30 minutes, hung up in frustration. Be careful. You may save a few bucks when you buy from them but can be forced to just through the item away when something goes wrong. Poor Customer Service. read more
