I went to harbor freight April 12, 2026 located in Hays Kansas at 2918 Vine St suite 140. My son and I had taken a tool in, in hopes of having it replaced. It was a warrior step drill bit. The sales manager told us that because it was a free gift during a sale on 3/22/26 that it had no value and store policy did not permit an exchange(not exact wording). We explained that it was the first time using the drill bit and it was being used to pre drill roofing metal. I explained that once the bit pierced the metal the end of the bit literally shattered sending shrapnel flying causing damage to our qounset hut leaving a hole in it. I told him that you can clearly see that it was from defective materials. He looked at the broken tool and said hmm ive never seen that before. He basically said it didn't matter. He asked questions as though he did not believe what we were telling him. I asked for the stores legal information as it had caused damage when it shattered. He said that there was an incident report form that we could fill out. It took him several minutes to return to the register with the form. It was long enough my son and I had contemplated just leaving. When he returned to the register he asked a couple of questions and I inquired if the form could be brought home and returned or had to be filled out right then. "He" stated that he had to fill the form out. I told him that I had ice cream in my truck and I would have to do it later. I then asked how long I have to fill out the form. The form is 5 pages front and back so ten pages total. "He" said the sooner the better. He made the statement that "people use and abuse items and bring them back hoping to get new ones". Now whether he meant to insinuate that was what happened in our case or not my son and I took it as him of accusing us of doing that very practice. To sum this long story up I have a damaged out building(a steel building with a hole in it, a shattered drill bit that you can clearly see issues with the materials used to make it. The edge of the break was not sheered or torn but shattered. The metal was/is rusted and textured like sand paper. While the drill bit it's self didn't have a lifetime warranty many of the tools I have bought over the years have had one. When using this store I have found that a lifetime warranty no questions asked policy means being accused of intentionally damaging tools or even having to argue that a tool has a lifetime warranty when the package clearly states that it does. This is not the first time I've had issues with this store but it will most certainly be the last. read more

I always tried to put up positive reviews, but Harbor Freight in Ventura Ca needs to do better. I have been going to this store for years. Every time I come in this store there is one person at the register and long line of customer no employees on the floor to help you. After redoing the store a few different times to make it look better no one as made the customer service better. I know the employees are not the problem, it the people at the top. So if you go into Harbor Freight expect to have one person on the register and no one on the floor. Please hire more people Harbor Freight. More time is just as valuable as yours. read more

Hands down in 30 years of doing business with Harbor Freight this Store is by far the worst location I have ever been to. "Jeff" was not only offensive and rude, he was obnoxious. The items we purchased were not capable of doing the job they claim to have the competency to perform. We purchased 2 mixers, small one's anticipating a half sack of grout in each mixer. When installed the motors we're set to an average belt tension and the cheap little motor could not turn an empty drum. Backed off on tension and still the motor failed. Long story short "Jeff basically said it was unusual but transferred me to a cashier who said they would refund the purchase. When my crew arrived they were not well received and made to wait while "Jeff" took these toy mixers into a closed area. After some time Jeff produced a working mixer. Unfortunately, the belt tension would not allow the from to carry any weight and struggled to turn the empty drum. But, to "Jeff" these were now working units. And he insisted and proceeded to demand a restocking fee of 15%. ".Jeff" needs to respect his customers, we agreed to store credit in lieu of restocking fee to keep the peace...he agreed but only if we bought another larger version of the came garbage. Otherwise, no store credit. "Jeff" will learn about Credit Card Charge backs soon and all he needed to do is compromise with customers whom which their company spent approximately $500,000.00 in merchandise in 2019. "Jeff not smart enough to know that customers drive his business. Not saying I am done with Harbor Freight, but "Jeff is not getting a dime out of me and AMEX WILL CHARGE BACK HIS RIDICULOUS SELF IMPOSED POLICY. When I approached the front door, Richard, sales associate saw me and opened the door when I asked if I could still return the item tonight. He did issue a return so that I wouldn't have to make a special trip. For me who is eighty years old such gesture of kindness is more than just appreciated. Small store but packed with EVERY tool your garage is need for or you may just really want. The prices are less expensive than other big brand stores but may not be as great of quality. Checkers are nice and efficient, they're on a checking out mission and move the line quickly so it's a really fast check out. An additional bonus? We get their emails and mailers so we have a little stash of freebies that come in handy when filling stockings, who knew kids and old alike get so excited for mini flashlights? Haha. Good place to buy inexpensive tools and accessories like gloves and ropes. Some of the items they have are not of the highest quality so you have to pick and chose what you are willing to compromise the quality for the low prices. I'm not willing to pay $35 for gloves at green thumb so I buy them there for $1.99. They last for a few uses but for that price you can get a few pair. I always cut the 20% coupon that's in the local paper and they give you a cheap gift like a flashlight or measuring tape. The measuring tape is actually kind of nice. This Harbor Freight location is well maintained, clean and from my experience has a pretty helpful staff. I'm always amazed that when I ask where something is they always seem to know with pinpoint accuracy. Most all of the tools are made over seas, so you get what you pay for. Good tools for the average consumer, I like that I receive 20% off coupons in the mail for a single item even if it's on sale. I've used several of these. Don't believe the website inventory. We drove all the way to Ventura because the website showed inventory. They had a floor model, but wouldn't sell it. We had to drive all the way to Valencia to get what we wanted. We finally got what we bought home, and the parts don't fit together. HFT is a great store. A lot of the power tools stack up with better brands. They have a great warranty policy and I have never been disappointed. I have bought a lot of hand tools from the store. We decided to use a tool cabinet for spices and found that HF was the only outfit with one that fit in the spot. We called the Ventura store to make sure it was in stock and brought it home to find that we could not unlock the 2 top drawers. I called the phone number in the owners manual, and a sincere and straightforward guy asked for the version number on the manual. We could not solve the problem over the phone so we trundled it back to the store and asked to speak to the manager. We asked that if the drawers could not be unlocked, that we wanted to exchange it for one that worked. The manager Jeff was patient, confirmed that the lock did not work, and brought out another one. It has working drawers and is now the coolest spice cabinet ever. Also freed up space in other kitchen drawers. read more

I will never go there again on weekend mornings, especially Sunday. The clerk was completely lost doing an exchange and the assisting manager completely dropped the ball. She took around 45 minutes to process an exchange of items and in so doing kept the 10 yard long line of customers waiting, instead of taking the exchange customer to another vacant checkout line and letting the clueless clerk process the simple purchases the rest of us had. It's not always true that"you get what you pay for." Here at Harbor Freight you find less that genuine quality and Pay less than what you would expect at Lowe's or Home Depot or Sears. They never have enough help on hand .I found a hose for 19.95 and a hose with the same specs (medium duty) at Wal- Mart for $ 14.00. They talk about great return poliicy but who wants to spend time returning weak quality made not working goods for more weak quality made perhaps troublesome goods.?If you need a one time tool yeah maybe .
