Came here because I was told they were the authority on plumbing parts in Ventura. My first mistake was just uttering the word bidet. After that they totally shut me off and didn't want to help me with any questions even though it was just can you help me get a 3/8 inch fitting that converts to a half inch fitting. That was it and I tried to explain that but he just said I don't know anything about that. Maybe I could've pressed the issue with him but I figured I didn't wanna argue with the gentleman. I went it to get a part for my new movable dishwasher. I didn't know the names of the faucet pieces, or that they had washers in them, or that the washers were removable or anything about them. I just knew I needed an attachment that I figured a plumbing supply place would have for a faucet. I am not a plumber- I don't know anything about faucets. I brought the parts that I thought needed an attachment with me to show someone. The guy behind the counter wearing an Old Guys Rule teeshirt thought my questions were hilarious. He talked to me like I was an idiot, he was condescending, patronizing and rude and in the end I didn't need a part at all. He just smirked and rolled his eyes like he couldn't believe what he was seeing. I couldn't believe it either. It's not a women friendly environment. read more

I'm moving in to a new place and I had a list of about 9 different odd pieces of hardware and some products that I needed that were totally unrelated to one another. I found Steve's on Yelp and being a fan of local businesses and old-school hardware stores I decided to check it out. As soon as I walked in and started reading off my list, the gentleman there (didn't catch his name) was completely helpful and walked around with me to help me find everything I needed. He was even pulling out different wing nuts to help and trying to get them threaded on the bolts I had with me. It was a bunch of small items and the total purchase amount was $28, but I felt completely taken care. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. When I went to the counter to check out, the lady behind the counter was very pleasant and helpful as well. My home is 78 years old and the plumbing has always been a challenge. My bathtub faucets began leaking and I needed some guidance as to how to repair or replace them. I took a few photos and headed down to get some advice. Both Rick and Dennis couldn't have been more helpful. They looked at the photos on my phone and told me what to do to get started. Rick even loaned me a faucet puller tool free of charge. I eventually got the fixtures removed and Rick began looking up the parts, but my house is too old. After looking through 3 separate books, Rick couldn't find the part so he took my old part into the back and cleaned, wire brushed and buffed the part. He then put the new grommet/rubber gasket on it for me and sent me on my way. An hour later I had it installed and was leak free. The customer service and knowledge that these guys have is amazing. Their total sale was less than $3.00 but they gave me an amazing amount of service and advice that I couldn't get anywhere else. NO WAY I get anywhere near this level of service or knowledge at Lowe's or Home Depot. This is small business at it's finest. I can't recommend this shop highly enough. Shop them first before going to the chain stores. You won't regret it. read more

Best plumbing store ever. The guys here are super friendly and knowledgeable, never once trying to upsell anything. In fact, in my remodeling a bunch of rental properties their advice has saved me thousands. As in "naw, I wouldn't buy that new toilet. I wound up at Steve's after another multi location chain messed up my plumbing parts order. I dealt with john at Steve's Plumbing and Hardware and he couldn't have been more helpful. He immediately figured out (from pictures I took) what was wrong and then proceeded to order the correct parts. He was professional, honest and thorough. We had a part come in incorrectly (due to a Moen mistake) and rather than leaving me in the lurch, john came through with flying colors!!! He was able to give me the correct valve on the spot so that we could have hot water once again! John was amazing to work with. He knew pretty much everything I would expect and then some. My first visit and it was awesome. They are very helpful, friendly and professional. I was looking for replacement parts for my tiolet. The guy that helped me was very patient and even showed me a working toilet in the bathroom when I could not visualize what he was explaining to me. In the end I had to bring in the expert (my wife) to explain what we needed. We found what we needed and he carefully explained how to replace the parts. I just moved into a new home and I was missing the correct gas line for my dryer. First, I went to Ace Hardware on Telegraph, multiple times, and explained specifically what I needed, and they seemed to be at a loss. I then went to Lowes, which was a mistake, because it took me 15 minutes to get anyone to help me and when I did the individual did not seem to grasp what I was looking for. I was looking for a faucet for my kitchen and asked for help. The clerk there behind the counter had a man chit chatting about something not related to plumbing, more like visiting, she let him talk and talk and talk, while I stood there waiting for him to shut up. After several minutes he concluded his visit and I got my turn. The clerk acted like I was intruding on here time and just pointed me where I had already looked not finding what I was looking for. I didn't want chrome I said, she said something about me going to have a hard time finding one in stainless steel and I said well that would look funny chrome faucet with a stainless steel sink. I left. I looked on the internet and found one, then went back to the store, again no luck. Don't carry it, we'd have to order it takes 2 weeks. Not satisfied, i went there three times.
