I bought a toolbox on June 2 and unfortunately, it didn't come with shocks (box was never opened, manufacture miss). Came back to the store a couple days later and spoke to the staff about what happened. Mike took care of it personally and went to the back of the store and got me some new ones. If you have access to an HFT monthly flyer, the chances are good that the price will be even lower! If you are a professional and will be using said tool on a daily basis, this might not be the place for you. If you have a motorcycle or an ATV, a motorcycle lift would be a very handy tool to have in your garage. If you're going to use a tool less than a couple of times a month, or even a couple of times a year. The Old Man taught me to buy the best tool I could afford and take care of it, so I only needed to buy it once. He passed away 45 years ago but I still have tools that he bought. I have invested in some high-end electric tools but Harbor Freight is where I find tools I might use once in a blue moon. Recently, I found such a tool at HFT for less than it would have cost me to rent a top of line unit for the couple of days I'd need it. Besides, it's fun to visit! Still a great place to find cheap tools and assorted items (almost like a science surplus junior) that do the job. I called the store yesterday looking for a specific item. I spoke with the manager and he confirmed the item was in stock. Got to the store. Easy to find parking near the door. We were greeted immediately upon entering. We found everything we needed. With a 20% off coupon, that made everything even better. At the checkout, my husband needed a penny. The security officer handed the cashier a dime to help us out. What a nice guy. Definitely going back today to make some returns. I was able to fix both of our garden hoses for $3 using some parts I bought here. read more

Went to Harbor Freight in West Allis to buy an electric drill and sander. Associate sold me the wrong sanding paper which did not adhere to the sander. When I called the associate accused me of not knowing how to use the sander and I was a novice "because it was a man's store". So I went to the store to return the sander only to find out HE had sold me the wrong product. Also if you are buying new tools one would hope the associate would ask "do you need any drills?" to go with the electric drlll. Nope. So much for trying to learn something new and getting the understanding you need. read more

The tools you need to do a professional-looking job without paying the prices for professional tools. For you average idiot such as myself, Harbor Freight is a Godsend. So, you need a 3/8 drive torque wrench for the one-off brake job you will never need to do again? Get one here for $19.99. Don't want to park a half mile from the entrance and walk past the dishwasher, the garden center, and the lumbar yard for a wrench? Won't need to here. Need a set of dead-blow hammers for that one-off paving stone job you will never do again? Get is here for $11.99. How about a tile saw for that one-off tile job? Well, you get the picture. Sure, the tools are cheap, but for the DIY-er, they're as good as you need them to be for as much as you need to use them. They carry most of the popular hand tools and electric tools in several quality grades so you can really optimize your value. I bought a cordless drill here about 5 years ago for about $25. I have used it periodically ever since and just now I am starting to see some battery fade. When it craps out, I will probably just buy another $25 drill and keep going for another five years. They do have so much more than just tools. There are tarps, cleaning supplies, farm implements, lawn ornaments, etc... basic random stuff they came in from China by the container load. They publish regular flyers with the latest deals that almost always seem to include a free LED flashlight. Those coupon deals (Q-pon, or coo-pun? you decide) are fantastic. On my last visit, the kind checkout person applied two $5 off coupons as well as an overall 5% coupon out of the kindness of her heart. Gotta love that. As with most Harbor Freights, this one is in a sketchy strip mall. Unlike most, this store is very clean and well organized. Most instances, you get what you pay for. Here I find, you usually get a bit more. If I could sum up any Harbor Freight in one word, I would choose "VALUE". read more

Stopped in only because it was the closest hardware store on Yelp and just needed some bolts. Was surprised at their lack of inventory in the hardware area. Seems like they had multi packs of some nuts and bolts but not like a traditional hardware stores. It was my first time in a Harbor Freight so was my bad for assuming they would have everything like an Ace Hardware. In the short time I was there however it looks like they do have a wide variety of tools and other things I might get on a different trip and the prices are reasonable. I need to make a point to stop in to browse to see what else they have. read more

I discovered this store a couple months back. I needed pancake compressor and I found and advertisement with a pancake compressor for $39.99. I was in, and what I found was a wonderland of cheap tools. Don't get me wrong, these aren't great tools, they are pretty low quality. This is a great place to get those hand tools you always lose, you know, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. They do sell a wealth of other things, including tool chests and workbenches. You'll be hard pressed to not find something tool related in here. I can attest to some of the problems other reviewers had. If you need to find something, you're on your own. Good luck finding someone. And when you do finally find that product, your going to wait in line and it will take a while for the cashier to get you checked out. I hate waiting. But at least if you bring in your ad, you get something for free. If you want quality, you're better off buying at Sears or the multitude of other hardware stores in the area. But if you need cheap replacements, this is your place. read more

Purchased their 21 gallon air compressor during the winter. Didnt use it until summer, just after the 90 day warranty. It failed within 5 days. You buy cheap crap, you get cheap crap. Moral of the story, if you buy from Harbor Freight dont expect anything close to professional grade. read more

Probably the weirdest hardware store I have been in, at least for a while. I came here looking for craft supplies. They did have some, but not as many things as I had hoped, and quality was just not there for what I need. Not surprising, given the other reviews, but it was a little disappointing. Also disappointing on today's trip : they apparently sell every other kind of screw, except eyelets. I need some for a window frame piece I'm working on. They were nowhere to be found, along with any employee to help locate any. I also hoped to pick up some clamps for a wooden carton I'm trying to make. They did indeed have them, but as other reviewers have stated : cheap is the name of the game here. Not only were they cheap, but also dripping in oil when I picked them up. Hence : my hands felt disgusting. No thanks. I wound up walking out without buying anything this time, but if I'm ever in the area again I may stop in just to see. It seems to me this place may have a lot of turnover in terms of inventory. The shopping center this store is located in reminds me of the Shitshow Island of Misfit Toys. No real rhyme or reason for some of the stores, and they are pretty random. Also : to the skeeve eying me down in the battery aisle.....lay off the hard booze and cigs before 3pm, ok? I have shopped at other Harbor Freights in my lifetime and sometimes they have some really interested and great buys. First time at the WA location for me today and I was not impressed. Small store, staff are not that helpful (though I do have to admit when I called the guy on the phone was great). Came, bought my item and left. Nothing kept me in the store to look around or intrigue me. Check out was probably the biggest downfall for me. Bought 1 item and they wanted my phone number, then name, etc. When I asked why I was told "well, if you need to return it or if there is something wrong with the item it will be easier for us then" WOW, now that just exudes confidence in their products I guess. I told them I think not - there's no reason they need all my personal info to buy 1 item. It just may be me but that did it for me and I'm not impressed. Any store that tried to obtain all your personal info when you buy something is not the store for me. It's not needed and uncalled for. P.S. Harbor Freight, perhaps your check out lines would take 20 minutes a person if you laid off getting everyone's info. read more

I'm not sure how this place survives in a world of big box lowes and Home Depots everywhere. I'm guess is that they carry everything that the big boxes don't, at least that's why I ended up there. I had some trouble as I went when I did because there was a sale, only to discover that the item I was purchasing wasn't in the sale, even though it was on the front page of the sale brochure. read more

I agree with all the comments about store being a wonderland of inexpensive tools but the service his deplorable. Always lines and waiting to check out on most visits to the store.
