    Saltwater pool area

This hotel is great. It's not a 4 star down in Waikiki but ... Returning to the island my family and I got stuck in the mandatory 14 day quarantine. We have two large dogs and no hotel in the area would allow them because of their size. In a way, I'm glad now because the Harbor shores apt hotel is run by very friendly people, there are two bedrooms and 3 TVs so the family didn't argue over what we watched during our lockdown. The pets were happy and with us rather than a boarding facility and instead of being locked in a hotel with no view and sunshine, we had a balcony we could sit on alone and enjoy the sunshine and trades again. The prices are very reasonable and the rooms are very clean and the kitchen is fully stocked so you can cook rather than continue to order out. There's also a beautiful saltwater pool (once you get out of quarantine ) to use. The hotel is perfectly located about 5 miles from fort shafter and a quick commute downtown to Waikiki as well as the mall. I'll certainly recommend this place to friends and family.

We needed a place to stay that would take our large dog while on business from an outer island. I didn't want to pay over a $1000 a night or stay in Waikiki as our business is on the Ewa side and this apartment hotel is nearby. Our 2 bedroom unit is rennovated, brightly painted, clean, with one set of towels for each person. We brought our own beach towels for the salt water pool. This hotel is a converted apartment building so do not expect a resort style experience here. Their specialty is clean, affordable accommodations. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Internet works great. Kitchen has the basics to prepare simple meals. You will need to buy paper towels, sponge, dish soap and food of course. Hotel supplies bath soap and you supply your own shampoo, etc. Location is convenient to Pearlridge mall, restaurants, etc. The neighborhood consists of older walk up aprtment buildings on the shores of Pearl Harbor. The only negative is do not walk on the bike trail that is behind the apartment on the water.... it could be so beautiful but the city or county does nothing to maintain it and it is over run with homeless living in the over grown brush with trash dumped everywhere. The complex is gated so it is safe from the homeless. Overall, this is a safe, clean place and we are very grateful that we found them.

This is what you get to wake up to and see every morning.

Couldnt have asked for a better place to stay. When you first show up it does look like a rough neighborhood. However we had no issues. stores within legit a one man walking distance. Owner/manager guy was awesome as well as maintenance. It does appear they are redoing some of the room. They do take are of cats, but the cats dont bother no one, but then cats if you try will let you pet them and play with them. They are pet friendly as well. Every room has a tv. The internet is AMAZING there. Oh and the kitchen comes with plates glasses and cups as well as some stuff to cook with.

I was in a two room suite, there was a living room, a kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge, the bed was comfortable, everything was spotless, and the employees were friendly. There was a TV in each room, and enough storage space. There are vending machines and a free Laundry available. The big problems I had, was that first of all, while the price was reasonable, I had to pay extra for a room with a shorter walking distance to the passenger terminal. I guess that's a "premium"..... As I mentioned, there was a kitchenette with a dining nook,, but absolutely zero plates, cups, bowls, or silverware. I called over to the front desk. Thinking they had them available. I just had to go pick them up, no. They do not provide them. What's the purpose of having a kitchenette????? The biggest complaint? The Wi-Fi. It wasn't just bad, it. *SUCKED!*. Occasionally, I could watch videos on my iPad, but most of the time, it was just buffering. And, the room was in a cellular "hole", so I couldn't use my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot. I would stay here again if I had like a middle of the night or very early morning flight out of the passenger terminal, but that's about it. Thanks anyway.

Has…read moreeverything you need and is great if you're TAD, house hunting, just need a quick place to stay for cheap, or arriving late from the passenger terminal, but I would warn that you could be walking a mile or two for your stay. My flight arrived late at the passenger terminal, and the bus on base was not running, so my wife and I had to walk 18 minutes to the check-in and the Royal Alakai. Then, once we checked around 2230 the desk was empty, and the lady working the front kind of had an attitude, but I'm not sure if that was just her personality or was actually being rude. I was then told after I had already paid and checked in and signed that my room was not nearby at all; it was going to be a mile down the road. Keep in mind I did not have a rental car or bus to get there, so my wife and I with 2 suitcases had to walk 20 minutes down the road to our actual stay. I really didn't mind the walk or this process, but for someone as my wife who is pregnant or an elderly person, I felt bad. The next morning, I just woke up, took the bus to the airport, and got a rental car. The checkout process was easy. I later found out the elderly couple who checked in after us got a stay just around the corner within a 2-minute walk. So, I'm not sure why I got sent out far away when there was someone close by to stay. Keep in mind I made my reservation 2-3 weeks in advance, so there can't be an excuse of being full or capacity reached. Maybe it was because I'm active duty and they thought I was just checking in to stay longer term? But I was just staying for one night to enjoy vacation.

As other reviewers have mentioned the building is…read moreold, that said it's kind of a commodity to the historian who might appreciate that the building is original from WWII. The hotel was very clean and presentable. There is limited trash receptacles available. One very tiny trash in the room, one in the computer area, and in the kitchen/reception desk area. Between stays, they replaced the mirror with something more "modern", but less practical (no more medicine cabinet). Though it was pretty. The mirror that hangs on the bedroom door to the bathroom however seems to be original and very beautiful. Out on the lanai, there is a scenic view of the city overlooking the ocean. Lots of trees down below with the grass and plants nicely manicured. A plumeria tree down below gives off a beautiful aroma, and a hill with the perfect tree to read under. Lots of seating in the courtyard. I slept very comfortably. There is a/c. The fridge fit our pizza box, laying flat. They gave us each a free water when we arrived. Free breakfast is also great. We stayed a while and I have no complaints. I really liked the omelettes. They also had computers with printers available. The workers here were absolute sweethearts. I apologize in advance if I misspell anybody's names.. Christina at the front desk really made me feel at home, and Aloha was also very helpful. Ilene does a great job in the kitchen. Everything was very good and clean. These three Ladies made it such a pleasant experience with their positive attitudes. A washer and dryer is available for use on both floors. They sell laundry detergent and bounce. This area was also clean. Lots of exits/entry points. We got to watch a helicopter land on the property which was pretty cool. We personally found this place to be far less expensive then many of the other hotels. The only downside is that there isn't a lot to do on the base and it is semi far from the areas I wanted to be. It wasn't loud during our stay and I never heard a single rooster.

This is perhaps a best kept secret among military hotels and guest houses…read more When the Hale Koa is all booked up, no one thinks about lodging at the Army Hospital! It's not actually IN the hospital, but less than a mile up the hill from it. We were skeptical, but friendly staff, price, convenience and quality changed our mind. The abundant and free parking, free hot breakfast, free laundry room and magnificant view of Honolulu all the way to Pearl City also influenced our fondness for this hotel. We've been to Waikiki many times, so we really don't need to be right there at the beach. The Hale Koa is great for that! But we don't need that anymore. We just need a quiet clean place from which to visit family and explore the island. My wife is from Honolulu. Amazing she never ventured more than a few miles from her home in the big city! But the IHG Army Hotel on Tripler Army Medical Center offers a quiet, seriously toned down alernative. The location is really central to both the West and East sides of the island and allowed us to venture into some non-touristy dining spots in Kalihi. The NEX is not far away (good for cheap gas and some seriously good poke at a good price from the commissary!) and if you happen to be hanging around the hotel during the week, during business hours, you can go to the hospital for the food court, DFAC (I hear good lunches for cheap - like $5-$8 cheap - but you know it's Army Mess Hall chow), Subway and Shopette. Although the hotel does not have a gym or pool... you're on a military post! And if you're at the IHG Army hotel, you obviously have base access and are authorized to use the gym and pool on base which is not far away at all. Just go down the hill toward the hospital and hang a right at the stop sign. Go past the traffic light at the parking deck and hang another right at th banyon tree (you'll know that tree!) and the gym/pool are on your right! The rooms were big. clean and family friendly. Another perk is security. Honolulu and a lot of the urban areas have gotten a bit sketchy since California and the liberal West Coast states (sometimes even cities like NYC and Chicago) started exporting their homeless populations with offers of free plane tickets anywhere. Honolulu has been battling homeless tent cities on their sidewalks for decades! You're on a military post guarded by armed soldiers. So you chances of assault and getting your car broken into are greatly reduced! I've seen past reviews that were not so kind, but it appears they had a renovation a few years ago and everything is great now! VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcSMPK5ctyM
