We were so happy staying at the Hawaiian Princess on our family vacation. Away from the…read moreHonolulu/Waikiki chaos of tourism. Let me just get down to the knit and gritty. I'm not going to sugar coat this one. The Princess is a 16 story tall condo complex that is securely gated with a public beach access. There is security on the grounds 24/7. There are key fobs that access the main gate and the key fobs access the elevator, pool area and gates to the beach. We felt 10,000% safe here with our child during our 10 night stay in March during Spring Break. 50% are long term residents. 50% are vacation rentals. Lets talk about smoking - NO SMOKING on any of the lanais, pool area, BBQ area, ect. You'll get kicked off the property and they mean it. There is a designated smoking area behind the tennis courts. We never smelt any stank on the property. Which was great because cigarettes are gross! Lets talk about theft - We had zero issues with theft here in Waianae or on the island in general. Remain vigilant. Don't leave valuables in your vehicle. Don't leave your vehicle unlocked. We left absolutely nothing in our rental car. Not even a phone charger. Nothing! We even took down our dash info for the Princess when we went into public areas. We didn't want to be like, "look over here, this is a vacationer with a rental car" Be smart about it. Let's talk about the homeless - It's a thing here! There are indeed many. A huge population of displaced people. Some encampments along the 93 Farrington from Makaha south to Kapolei can be 100 - 200 sized encampments of tent city. It's a real thing here. The Princess had a few strays passing through since its a public beach. But not one person camping on the beach of the Princess. They have really cracked down on that and have no camping signs on the rocks. If the homeless make you uncomfortable, stay in Honolulu and Waikiki in a resort with the tourist craze. We are from the SF Bay area and homeless all over where we live and it's normal to us. But if your from Kansas or something, you might get a little freaked out. Lets talk about driving - There is one road in and one road out. It takes about 30 mins to get to Kapolei. And about 1hr to get to Honolulu. We loved staying far far far away from people. Honestly, when we return, we'd stay at the Princess. No questions asked. Let's talk about the neighborhood - It's a little rough. A lot of older run down homes. A lot of junk in front of people's homes. There is a huge feral cat population. There are wild roosters, chickens and peacocks running around. There are Island puppies. No one fixes their animals and are mostly in tact leading to a huge over population here. All of the homeless have dogs and puppies with them. The roosters start crowing at 5am. You'll hear them and you'll see them. Everyone has been very friendly though. Its definitely its own little community up here. If it all makes you feel uncomfortable, again, you might want to stay in Honolulu/Waikiki tourist chaos. Conclusion- We would 1,000% stay here again.

However, I just decided to see what they had for lunch. There's a bar and a meal place in the back of turtle Cove. Turtle Cove is where you check in for the lodging, and then they also have shops and that type of thing. I wanted to see if the bar could make me a virgin Mai Tai, but they didn't open for another two hours. She said that they open at 3 PM. I'm not sure if that's every day of the week.... So instead, I went over to the snack bar, and I ordered a spam musubi, and an açai bowl. What a combination, eh? The spam musubi was very large, and it was delicious! The rice was tender, and the SPAM was done just right. It took a little bit longer to get my açai bowl, as they are made to order! When I did, I took it out back so I could eat overlooking the ocean. What a beautiful view, just so absolutely peaceful. This is just such an amazing place. The açai bowl was amazing. They were very generous with the toppings, the granola underneath the fruit was very good, and the açai itself was very slightly frozen, it melted perfectly as I went through the meal. Just a total home run. Bellows is a wonderful place for military recreation, let's hope it stays that way. Thank you for being there.

Every time I visit Honolulu, I always try to book one of Annie's rentals first and hope that there's availability during my trip dates! I'm one of those people that does extensive research and price comparisons on different rentals before every trip, and Annie's units are the best value every time. I've experienced two month-long stays at one of her Ilikai Marina units, and I'd book the exact same rental again every time I return if it's available. The unit was bright, clean, spacious, and peaceful. It had the most comfortable bed and pillows I've ever slept on. Even if I had a naked Ryan Gosling in my bed, I'd still choose sleep over sex because the bed and pillows are THAT comfortable. The Wi-Fi was fast and consistent, even during video-heavy Zoom calls, so you'll have no problems working remotely. The Ilikai Marina is a prime location with so much to do within walking distance like Magic Island, Ala Moana, and everything Waikiki has to offer. There's a Biki station right around the block, so I biked pretty much everywhere. On top of all this, Annie and Adrianne are incredibly responsive, friendly, and accommodating. I'd highly recommend booking with Annie, but hopefully not during MY travel dates because I want to rent with her when I'm in town, too!

Additionally, we loved that there was a sliding door in the condo, that turned the apartment into a one bedroom when we wanted (but also allowed us to have open space when we wanted as well). Annie was super responsive and accommodating. From the booking process where she explained everything to going above and beyond such as leaving snacks in the kitchen, water in the fridge, and laundry detergent in the closet since we were staying longer term. These details made us feel really welcome and Annie also has the best suggestions on places to eat or things to do in the area. Grateful to work with Annie on this rental and will definitely be recommending to friends who come to Hawaii to visit!
