I judge BBQ places by their sliced brisket.... I popped in after church one day to get a half pound of sliced brisket because I'm currently doing the carnivore diet. I entered the restaurant and it smelled awesome (good sign) and it also had cool aesthetics. When the girl at the carry out register brought out my order she opened the box and showed me my order. She looked at it and said, "looks like it's a moist cut, is that going to be okay"? I said yep, because I love both fatty and lean. The service was okay. I got home and opened the container and it was still hot. Took my first bite and added a little salt to all of it. When I tell you that I have never had to chew a sliced brisket so much, I mean it. Was it edible? Yes. Was it enjoyable? No. I ate it because I hate wasting food, but that was by FAR the worst sliced brisket that I've ever had. From flavor to texture it was terrible. I went in here today for a late lunch with my wife's niece and her husband. I'd seen it many times in my trips to Burleson, but never gone in as I like a lite dinner and BBQ does more qualify as lite. So I had the smoke Turkey. Dang good. I sampled theirs as well. Chopped beef was good, both the lean and fatty. And very little sauce on it so you can taste the flavor and add sauce as you like. And smoked bologna - wow. They say it sells out fast as the piece we got was all they had left and it was small. But good. Can't speak about the sides as I didn't get any, but they have all you can't eat pinto beans. Long story short, the place is good but not great. Definitely saw some flickers of greatness but just didn't experience it during a Monday lunch hour visit. Place looked newer for sure and coworker said it's a few yrs old. Was a good sign to see smoke pits as we walked in and the set up was traditional Texas whereby you order your meats and they're cut in front of you before moving onto smaller packages sides and drinks before paying at the cashier. On top of the regular self serve onions, pickles and jalapeño station, you get free beans if you're dining in. Plenty of space inside with kinda odd immovable benches, both regular tables and bar height tables. Service was very friendly and we had our trays collected for us also at the end. Onto the food however, I ordered a 1/4 lb brisket, 1/4 lb jalapeño cheddar sausage and 1 rib. Grabbed a side of twice baked potato salad as well. The highlight of the meats though was the sausage which is slightly problematic for me. Don't get me wrong, everything had a strong smokiness to it, and the seasoning was good on the brisket, I just happened to get the tail end of a whole brisket and I could tell it'd been sitting out a while and was very tough and chewy. Rib was def on the dry side without much going on in the rub. As mentioned the sausage was great and I would hesitate to get it again. Traveling and stopped for lunch as my husband loves this place. Had the chopped brisket sandwich. Impressed that they chopped it in front of us and weighed it. Wish i had read their signs as meat comes per pound. I should have only gotten 2-3 oz as this was too much meat for me. The bun though toasted wasn't toasted very much and was just a typical hamburger bun. By the time you get through the lines picking your sides, paying, getting drinks and sauce, the meat is cold. The meat was lean like I like but the taste want as smoky as I would have hoped. The jalapeño corn was delicious but despite its small size was too rich to each more than half. The onion rings that my husband ordered were delicious! Lots of onion and perfect crispness. The best was the free beans! They were so tasty! Wish i could've ordered a bowl of them with some cornbread! It was quite pricey for lunch. The staff were very friendly. The seating wasnt very comfortable as you cant adjust. We placed an order in the morning to pick up at 11:15am. We get there right at 11:15 and ask for our To-Go order. The young hispanic girl working the counter said they had nothing under our name. Of course, we were confused but she got on the phone and took someone else's order. Then after a few minutes she checked the system and sure enough our order was there for pick up at 11:15am. She said she never knew and that it would be about a 20 minute wait. Understandably, we were a little confused but I work at Starbucks so I totally understand when the machines just don't work and things go wrong. We were very polite & ordered 2 gallons of tea- I thought surely we will get a discount or something because they never prepared our food but we did not. 25 min later our food is ready to-go. We ask her if we could get a small side or something to compensate for the wait. She looks at us rudely and did not say a word and called a manager on a walkie and walked away. The manager came, an older white male, and he does not look at us or speak to us. She tells him "They want a free dessert or something because the computer was wrong". (The computer had our order, she just did not print it). He looks at us exasperatedly and said "...Okay?" and started walking away- as he was walking away he asked passive aggressively "What do you want?" and we said just a mac and cheese would be good! He says "You want a dessert? Or a mac and cheese? Or..?" Very aggressively! It was SO weird!!! He came back with the tiniest cup of mac and cheese I have ever seen. Like in a BBQ sauce cup. He said "Here. Don't tell anyone, we aren't allowed to do this. Okay????" Very very weird interaction. They never looked at us or spoke to us, they were very very annoyed we were even talking to them at all. There was never "I'm so sorry" "I'm sorry for the wait" Nothing! They treated us like it was our fault- Even though the order was correct, we showed up on time, paid for everything plus the teas, and were nothing but patient and courteous. We weren't even upset about the food being late- just the absolutely horrible service! I work in customer service so I understand we all have bad days, but this was all of the staff I interacted with. We were customers of Hard Eight but I don't think we will be coming back again. I have never had a weirder experience with management as a customer somewhere! Would rather spend my money somewhere that they want you to be there and treat you like a person. read more

It's my granddaughter's first birthday, and I called in an order for 2.5 lbs of chopped beef for her birthday party. I asked ahead of time for enough sides such as pickles, onions and jalapeños. They gave me a tiny cup with five pickles and five jalapeños and a small cup of barbecue sauce and said that was standard for that size order. There is absolutely no that is "normal serving portion" for that much beef! I made a call and talked to Manager who was very nonchalant and wanted to charge me for any extra size. So if if you're planning to feed more than one person just know ahead of time you need to purchase your own pickles and onions and jalapeños and barbecue sauce unless you want to pay a big up charge for 5 more pickles. Lovely place, so you stand outside the building in the heat because its literally from the grill to your plate, and then u go inside to get your sides, drink and silverware and pay the register. We tried the jalopenio sausage, it was amazing, they had sweet potatoes grilled, the brisket was good chopped otherwise it's a big piece, the bacon wrapped poppers on shrimp was ok, and then chicken one was ok needs more flavor besides bacon, the beans were dull, the jalopenio corn salad was amazing, the mac and cheese was ok, the corn bread salad was bland not recommended. The inside is pretty spacious, set as large shared picnic tables but not one board of seating, they are individuals u will see what I mean when you get there, but it is air conditioned! Hard 8 is my go to every time we come to a Dallas. I decided I want to try other locations. This was the last time I come to this one. Until the H8 in Coppell I wasn't a fan of brisket. The brisket at this location did not live up to what I expect from the H8. It was lacking moisture. The pulled pork was brought out of some liquid and tasted burnt. We have never left pulled pork to throw away until yesterday. The ribeyes are way over what I would normally pay, but they are by far the best I have eaten... until yesterday. The sausage was great, but it's hard to mess up sausage. The chicken was also good, but next to the bone was bloody. I doubt I will die. Ribs were also good, but little meat. The gals at the register went through our order piece by piece and all of it was there. The food was amazing - we had brisket, pulled pork, and bacon jalapeño shrimp dipped in garlic butter. And then there were the onion rings... omg. More like giant onion battered amazingness. They were like onion ring donuts. So much flavor, so good. I don't even normally like onion rings. We also had the beans which were super flavorful and the banana pudding for dessert. A BBQ chain in the DFW area, of course I had to try it. I don't usually get pork BBQ but was pleasantly surprised how moist and flavorful it was. The brisket was a complete disappointment...very dry (I ordered the "moist" brisket) and chewy. The 2 inch pork chop was the highlight of our order....tender, moist with very good seasoning. If you're a cobbler person, definitely try theirs! We had the blackberry and peach and there's still a debate which one is better. HARD PASS NO BBQ - NO DRINK What was once celebrated at grand opening has gone to the customer service crapper. At 105F and without a drink for hours, I pulled up to receive my takeout. I eagerly awaited a large Coke. They delivered DIET Coke which I cannot drink. I had to tueb around and drive back to get a COKE- not dirt. I waited 10m. Server went back inside. I took a sip and...ANOTHER DIET Coke. Like gluten, some people cannot tolerate aspartame or phenylalanin. I'm throwing it all in the next dumpstwe. A $20 meal ruined and every penny wasted. Now to go throw up. And be dehydrate in traffic for the next hour.I took one bite of my brisket and got a mouthful of fat- and no drink. WORST EXPERIENCE at a restaurant ever. I'm PISSED. INFURIATED. My friend who lives here in the DFW area recommended we go to Hard Eight for some BBQ. I like the concept that you as the customer choose what you want to eat right off the grill. I chose ribs (since I wanted to know about the BBQ from Dallas) sausage, roasted corn and potato salad. To be honest I was not impressed. I have had ribs before that were a lot better. I wasn't feeling the potato salad because it didn't feel like it had any flavor. The good items were the roasted corn and the sausage. My friend decided to get the banana pudding for desert. Keep in mind they keep these items out on ice and you pick up what you want and pay. As we were leaving my friend said the banana pudding wasn't sitting right with him and unfortunately he got sick in the parking lot. This wasn't a good experience for me from visiting from out of town. I don't think I will try again when I do come back to DFW. read more

Very impressed with the level of service I received at this restaurant. I had never had this BBQ before and I was very hesitant. The meat server cut the meat to my likings. Having heard about Hard Eight for years I was anxious to see what all the fuss was about. Now....i get it. On 1st visit we tried ribs, turkey, brisket, sausage, and slaw. The ribs were meaty and flavorful, turkey was good and the brisket was hard to pick up it was so tender...it fell apart. Sausage was good but be careful if you cant handle spicy. The regular sausage is spicy in it's own right....cant imagine the jalapeno. Slaw was fine but I was so full on meat I wasn't in a good place to fairly weigh in. H8 has it's own parking lot with a line that does form outdoors so depending on the time of year it can get extremely warm. There is an outdoor bar to help customers stay hydrated as well as spot coolers. Meat is purchased by the pound and weighed prior to entering the building. Once inside you have a choice of sides and dessert. Hint: beans are free and at every drink station throughout the restaurant. They do have jalapenos so be careful. Restaurant staff wanders about asking if customers need assistance. All are very friendly. Restrooms are clean. 2nd visit was with the sole purpose of RIBS! I also decided banana pudding was a must. While the line was much shorter on Monday at 5:20 compared to 1 on a Saturday we actually had to wait longer. Only 1 person was serving the meat yet the manager wandered about doing I'm not sure what. This always puzzles me...anyhoo ribs were again amazing but sometimes hard to chew like maybe they'd been wrapped in the foil for quite a minute. Banana pudding was good but different. Overly hyped & over priced for its quality! Hubby & I paid $50 for: 1.5lb of meat which included brisket, jalapeno sausage and ribs. 3 shrimp poppers, baked potatoe, mac and cheese, okra and potatoe salad (which is pretty small portions ...) It's weird that we see them take our meats off the "keep warm grill/oven" (not freshly grilled) and watch them "cut" the meat.... but we sat down and the food was not hot and we sat down within 5 minutes of getting our food! The brisket and ribs were both dry. Jalapeno sausage was mediocre...tasted like regular smoked sausage. Shrimp poppers seemed like they were sitting there for awhile. I took one bite and stopped eating the shrimp poppers (I have a sensitive stomach and was not in the mood to risk getting food poison) Food taste like it was microwaved! It's so weird.... Visited Stephenville several times and very good. Last year a few stops at Burleson location a bit inconsistent and in June was not up to usual par (dinner for 4). Flavors good. Pulled pork not much meat and a lot of sauce. Brisket average. Corn was perfect. Would go back but if similar to last visit will probably take a pass in the future and try something new. Finally!! Hard Eight is our favorite bbq! We've been so excited for the Burleson location to open just minutes away from our home. It'll be hard to stay away. Their official opening is July 1st but we happened to notice lots of cars and a handful of people on the patio as we were driving by. We immediately turned around and went for dinner! A few kinks to work out as they just recently soft opened. Guys, it's SO GOOD! You have to come try it out if you haven't! It's open pit style so you can pick and choose by weight although they do have set items like sandwiches and studded baked potato. You seriously can't go wrong with anything you get. All of the bread and condiments are inside as well as some other sides like Mac n cheese and desserts. The bbq sauce is on the other side of the soft drink machine. I finally got to try a sweet potato (~$4) and also had 1/4lb pulled pork and a few slices of spicy sausage (~$10). My husband had 1/2lb brisket and a few ribs (~$17). We also like to get the apple cobbler to take home. We personally love the original bbq sauce the best. The pulled pork is a bit sweet with a smoky flavor but I really like it on top of the sweet potato with some bbq sauce and jalapeños for some heat. FYI- their jalapeños are spicy. My husband said his brisket was a little overdone but they were cleaning a new one just as we got up to the pit so he did get the outter edges and the few pieces after his looked much better. We were slightly confused by the bar outside just as you enter but knew there had to be another inside. There wasn't a problem for us when we came in as the line was short (5:30pm friday) however when we left at 6:30 people were backed up outside- I'm assuming everyone thought they had to wait in line and get a drink or something before moving on. This is not the case! You can get drinks inside. I believe they are just offering people the opportunity to get a drink while they wait in line for food. Hard Eight needs to make this clear with signs or something. It's going to cause a lot of issues as I would be very frustrated wanting to get to the food line as I do not want to get a drink at this bar. Please fix this! Since they just recently opened it was a bit slower than other locations we've been to and we understood that. These kinks should smooth out shortly. This shouldn't discourage you from coming in because the food is so worth it!! One other suggestion I have is to have a larger container for the original bbq sauce. The container was split in half to have half original and half spicy in the same warming machine. When we got to it it was completely empty of original. They're going to need so much more when they're officially open. I hope they fix this as other locations usually have a large amount or several locations in the restaurant or be prepared to refill often. read more
