    Lemon pepper wings.
    Vivian H.

My BFF, her mom and daughter and I recently went to Hard Hat to satisfy a wing craving as wanted a different place other than the usual. We started with fried pickles which were delicious. My BFF and her mom and I shared Doob wings and lemon pepper wings. My friends daughter had honey bbq wings along with a side salad, which her grandma had too. My friend and I also split a Cobb salad. Let me tell you the Doob wings are where it is at. Perfect. Love the smokiness the grill brings to them. Our lemon pepper wings were fantastic as well. Crispy and great sauce! Service was good but mixed. We had two people waiting on us and one was great and the other just seemed annoyed.... But maybe having an off day. We will def be back for the wings!

One of our go to happy hour spots. They renovated in the recent years and the place looks great. They have a front bar area and a back restaurant room. They also have a huge outside space in the back. Their food is truly great bar food. I would be remised if I didn't talk about the main attraction...the Doob wings. These beautiful wings are prepared traditionally and then thrown on the grill. The only tough decision I make is if I want to eat them like that or get them second sauced. Either way...you can't go wrong. They have TV's in the front bar area that are perfect for watching games or gathering with friends. Love this spot. @thesidedishers

Sorry.. wasn't a fan. Came here with a small group for lunch. The wings were so incredibly salty, and the burger you could tell had been frozen and cooked straight from the freezer. It was a hockey puck. Not sure if they were having a bad day, but probably better to stick to somewhere else for food.

First time coming here. They do Karaoke! Super fun but loud, it fits though. And they people singing were amazing! Anyways, we had a really kind server and she gave great drink recommendations. I ended up with the Bay Breeze, was very good. For food I had the chicken Buffalo wrap, and that was also really good. The waffle fries were super crispy and just super great. We had a really good time!

Stopped by for a little day drinking. Enjoyed this Sam Adam's Octoberfest with a few friends. Also you have got to try the Big Mac egg rolls...extremely yummy !

They have constantly gone up on the wing price year after year and it has now gotten up to $2 a wing. Absolutely absurd.

We arrived on a Monday around peak dinner time, but there was essentially no wait (apparently uncommon according to my friend -- just a delightful consequence of dining at a college town during the summer). We split a medium pizza (1/2 elote mexican street corn and 1/2 bbq brisket), proving to be more than enough for two plus a more than ample amount of leftovers. Recently, I've gravitated toward thinner pizzas, a far cry from the typical Detroit (foccacia-esque) style pizzas I used to prefer, and BAR's pizza is akin to a flatbread yet very thin, another fallen angel to the GLP's. The undercarriage boasts a brilliant crust, almost cracker-like. However, it should be noted that the pizza is indulgent all the same. The elote pizza is quite possibly the most memorable, unique pizza I've ever had; it arrives almost crimson-red with a generous layer of corn and takis atop. It's still incredibly well balanced despite the hodgepodge of varied toppings. It's hard to pick a favorite between this and the bbq brisket though; while one is incredibly unique the other is simply sumptuous, nothing pedestrian about either of the two. The service is also impeccable, almost rivaling that of southern hospitality. I always thought Californians were friendly but something is in the air every time I visit New Haven. Incredible!

For close to 25 years, the Mazzaro family operated Vic's Pizza on Quinnipiac Avenue. Eventually, they had an idea to open something bigger and better with a more extensive menu. The restaurant was named for their son Jason, who goes by the nickname "J. Roo". Originally, the restaurant was billed as "J. Roo's, home of Vic's Pizza". The extensive menu consists of Italian specialties, seafood dishes, steakhouse entrees, New Haven-style pizza, burgers & hotdogs, sandwiches & wraps, salads, soups, wings, various bar bites, craft beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. In 2015, J. Roo's temporarily closed for a major renovation. The current, larger restaurant space opened the following year. My family and I recently had dinner at J. Roo's. My wife and I have enjoyed their food a few times in the past, but this was the first visit for our two sons. We were all seated at a booth in the main dining area. J. Roo's makes great wings and other various types of bar appetizers, but we were all in the mood for some New Haven-style pizza. We decided to order two medium pizzas: the "Pesto" (white pie, fresh mozz, grilled chicken & garlic pesto sauce) and the "Meatball Ala Vodka" (vodka sauce, meatballs, fresh mozz); the latter was a special. These pies were EXCELLENT! Really crispy crust, great sauces and really good toppings! Although the meatball pie was a special, J. Roo's should really consider making it a permanent addition to the menu. My wife and I washed our pizzas down with some delicious Foxon Park Birch Beer. Overall, we had a great visit at J. Roo's and look forward to returning!

We had tickets at eight for Haunting at the Ridge about three minutes away. After looking at the menu, we decided to come here for dinner. I was very excited because of all the great menu options. The service was terrible from the start all around. We arrived at 6:15. There was two people in front of us. The hostess acknowledged us, but never took our name. A few minutes later, other people started coming in and she started taking their names and asking them if they wanted to sit outside. She never gave us that option. One of the people came in and started to debate whether or not they wanted to wait 20 minutes. She told them "You can stay or go, it doesn't matter to me." I should have known right there to leave. We were seated at 6:30 which was not a bad wait. 6:45 our orders were taken. Our waitress did not come back to the table one time after bringing our drinks. Never checked on us, never let us know what was going on with the food. She came back at 7:28 with our appetizer. We asked her how long would it take for the rest of our food. She apologized and said it would be another 20 to 25 minutes. I didn't understand how burgers take over an hour to make. We canceled the rest of the order. I was excited about the hotdog. Another letdown. It was cold when I got it and the chili on top had no flavor. I'm not even sure if it was deep-fried. Definitely not worth the $14.50 price. I will say the fries were very good. They were the only bright spot of the night. They have a lot to offer, but I would never come back here due to my experience.

I just missed their live jazz band that they have on weekly Wednesday basis starting at around 7 or 8pm. I wasn't too disappointed because I knew I'd be back. The entrance is setup as a VHS store with VHS movie cases displayed all over the "storefront." Everyone here was polite and welcoming. I was met by a host who showed me the way into the hidden bar, that you enter via a soda machine. If I'm not mistaken, there's a specific button that opens the vending machine door (you'll get a hint as to which one it is.) I was lead to the back to a narrow, elongated bar area that was perfectly dim with cozy decor; incredibly inviting, warm, could make be described as elegant. At the end of the bar, near the exit (at the back of the establishment), is where the band usually sets up. I sat down and asked the bartender to free flow through his cocktail creativity and to please include smoke. He didn't disappoint, I can't recall the name of the cocktail but he included two scotches and delivered the smokiness I was looking for. I love a good spirit despite lacking the knowledge of its production to which Jeremy, the founder, explained to me in a way that helped me understand the distilling processes simpler than I thought possible. On their bar top there were two mini wooden barrels that held their own aged products . One contained Irish whiskey which was referred to as the Irish- the other was as a cherry infused bourbon-- both good but the bourbon? Divine. Tonight I learned that the wood you choose to age your alcohol in heavily impacts the flavor of the liquor, not only through the amount of time the spirit ages in the barrel, but the type of wood used. The example I was given was that of oak and its ability to allow sugar to be drawn from it via a liquor (can't recall which one exactly was used to describe this process). Here they also produce all of their bases/ juices or an additions to the drinks they make. You know exactly what you're drinking here. I had little knowledge of this distilling/infusion/aging components and also of Wallingford, a place that was once referred to as the wettest town in the U.S. It makes sense given that their main strip contains 18 bars in itself. This Gilded Curtain was incredibly immersive, there is no doubt that I'll be back, lots of times, with lots of different people to impress. Love this place, it's a must visit recommendation from here on out. Thank you Gilded Curtain (Jeremy).
