Dr Kalpana Hari Hall has 8 reviews, of which 7 are atrocious and 1 is brilliant and I bet that one was planted, to make her look better. I'm adding another atrocious one. I had 2 encounters with her, one personal, the other one virtual. The personal encounter was fine, although Dr KHH is not a particularly warm and fuzzy person. She ordered a blood test and a brain scan. A few weeks later I spoke to her via Zoom. I didn't really need a doctor to tell me what my problem was, as I had also received a report myself with the results (normal pressure hydrocephalus) and had discussed these with my PCP. But i figured I could ask her questions. Dr KHH was sitting at her computer. She was not friendly; she wasn't even polite. She came across as annoyed, as if she had no time. She had all sagged physically into one corner of the computer screen, resting her head on her hand - I could barely see her. At no point did she make eye contact. She ordered me to walk so she could see me. Within a few seconds she said, "You're not a candidate". She meant, for treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus. I asked why she thought so, and she said, "Because I can see that," and made it very clear she had no more time for me. I was shocked. She hadn't seen a thing. "So now what?" I asked. "I can give you the names of a couple of neurosurgeons that you could call", she said. and that was that. I waited to receive the names of neurosurgeons, but nothing came. It so happened my husband needed to be in her building a week later so he went over to her offices - she wasn't there but her assistant handed him a somewhat crumpled piece of paper with two names. I called one of them, at the VCU Hospital in Richmond, VA. At least this sad story has a happy ending because now I have a caring and competent neurosurgeon who will oversee my surgery (placement of a shunt in my brain) next month. Please, do NOT go to Dr KHH. read more

I first had to get this office to "allow" me to see a provider who was not my original provider as that physician was out on maternity leave. I was there to have the many tests I was sent out to have reviewed by an actual neurologist as the initial person I was assigned to see was only a physician's assistant & could only order tests--nothing else. So when I saw this woman it was to have her review the results of the many tests I had, provide clarity & answer my questions. When I left, the last thing I told her was that I had learned absolutely nothing from the visit. I would not only never consider seeing this physician again, I would never return to the Neurology Center to see any of their physicians. If you need a neurologist, ask one of your doctors you trust to provide you w/names of a neurologist or neurologists not associated w/this practice. Oh & let me one more thing: The messaging portion of their patient portal has never worked in the year I used this practice so you cannot reach a physician unless you schedule an appointment & since, of course, this "problem" could have been sorted out in a year's time, it clearly intentional. read more

Save yourself the aggregation and frustration. Do not do to this doctor or her sleep study center in Bethesda. I wish I had looked at the reviews for this most incompetent doctor instead of just following my doctor's referral. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! A HUGE PILE OF MONEY FOR NOTHING!!! The doctor is rude. The staff is rude. Neither the doctor nor the staff ever return a phone call. Then there is the CRAZY EXPENSIVE equipment they send to you with a bill, but without ever talking with you. If you do not believe this review and steer clear of this quack doctor, you might notice in your first appointment that this doctor only has one mode - Broadcast only. She will not listen to you even if you can get a word in edgewise. Consider yourself warned. The next $2,000.00 + you waste should have stayed in your pocket. read more

Horrible Experience! I was assigned to Dr. HH by my ENT for sleep issues. Three months post surgery I am in incredible pain and have tried repeatedly to see Dr. HH - or anyone in the practice - for a follow up. First, its rare that the phone is answered, and when it was, I was told that I could not see her until March (it is now November). I begged to see ANYONE in the practice but was told that it was not their "policy" to let patients see other doctors in the practice. So I am now forced to find a Dr to assist who has no history of my case or familiarity with the surgery that left me in such pain. read more

I'm sorry I ever visited this physician. I've found much more compassionate, kind and professional care elsewhere. She was not engaged, caring or sympathetic and I live with multiple health issues. Perhaps others will find her to be a better doc than I did. Good luck! read more

They billed my insurance for a sleep study that was NOT properly done. I was not able to fall asleep and instead of scheduling me to come back, they billed my insurance company. They sent me home with an in home device. This also did not give correct results as I am a fussy sleeper and told them I only fell asleep for 90 minutes. Again, they billed insurance. So I am left with awful wake the dead snoring. Reading the other reviews here, I am now sorry I wasted my time here. read more

I was not happy with my visit with Dr Hari Hall . I came in to ask for her opinion on MRI results I received about possible migraines. Throughout the very brief appointment, I got the impression that this doctor was frustrated at -- if not inconvenienced by -- me. I had several questions for her because the MRI report indicated I had something called 'white matter disease' which sounds alarming. It turns out this was nothing major at all, but I sensed that she was annoyed that I was worried about it. She then told me that I needed to take anti-depressants for my migraines. I have never heard of doctors prescribing these and wanted more information - she made no effort to explain to me why I would need them. Furthermore, I indicated to her that I have been taking anti-depressants for years (with negative side-effects) and that I am trying to get off them. She then proceeded to ask questions about my mental health, and the manner of the delivery of these questions was nothing short of indelicate. If someone struggles with mental health problems a doctor should be sensitive. She did not take my concerns seriously and was unwilling to listen to my concerns about this and was not clear about whether an alternative medication could be taken. Again, she seemed annoyed at me which is unacceptable and unprofessional. I felt I was being rushed through the appointment. I should also add that she was over 20 minutes late for the appointment even though I was her first appointment of the day. She did not apologize for this. I will not be visiting her again and suggest she improve her bedside manner. read more

This is one of the least caring and least confidence-inspiring doctors I've ever seen. She diagnosed me with a serious disease but gave no explanation or description of it: I left her office knowing as much about the condition as when I came in. Her examination was cursory, and much less thorough than my primary care physician's, who reached a different conclusion. read more

Dr. Hari-Hall is a very knowledgeable physician with a great "bedside" manner. I have been using CPAP for about 12 years; Dr Hari-Hall is the third sleep doctor I have seen and by far and away the best of them all. She hsa been treating me for the past six years.m . I believe that one of her major advantages over the others is that she is a neurologist and not an otolaryngologist (ENT), which is the other medical specialty that treats sleep disorders. Dr Hari-Hall was very thorough in her review of my prior history and the sleep test she ordered. She was the one that finally determined my need for BiPAP rather than CPAP and determine that my constant sleepiness was a result of more than simple sleep apnea. Once she started treating the other problems I was a new person. With regard to the staff, I think it is important to note that since the prior three reviews were written that there has been a change and things are much better than before. Unfortunately, as part of a very large neurology practice, I think Dr Hari-Hall had to deal with some staffing issues for longer than she wanted. I highly recommend that anyone who has symptoms of sleep apnea, narcolepsy or other sleeping disorders see Dr Hari-Hall. read more

I am in complete agreement with the other reviewer, alpa s. I had a terrible experience with the staff of Dr. Kalpana Hari Hall. Staff was rude and bluntly put, quite hostile to me. The medical receptionist refused to explain next steps, and was just nasty. I had chosen their referred MRI provider in Chevy Chase, had been given the disc by the MRI office and brought to my appt. at the Neurology Center. But once there I was told by the front desk clerk that she could not take it ..they needed a "report"; but then there was no further explanation as to how to get my results read. I was told I had to make another appointment in addition to the two I had already made. There was no sense to any of it. Worse Kalpana Hari Hall walked out during this encounter and did not even engage on the issue, she scurried back into her office. It came across that they just want you to keep making appointments. Very little information was given to me as the patient and I was left in the dark. Similar to the other reviewer, I was left for several weeks without an answer as to why I was having blackouts. Really poor patient / client skills and service. When one thinks what they charge in insurance rates it would be like staying at a premier 5 star hotel....they way they run their office is like a 2nd rate DMV office. Consider that the front office staff is your first line and reflective of your practice, then it is a sad commentary on Dr. Kapalan Hari Hall and the neurology center read more

Multiple visits had to be scheduled with different doctors before they would submit to my insurance the need for a sleep study. Every subsequent visit she was late 30+ minutes for each appointment and didn't seem to find relief from anything offered. Additionally, in order to schedule an apointment, you wait over 15 minutes on hold in order to reach someone only to deal with front desk staff that can't even schedule appointments correctly. Recommend you find anyone else. read more

I've never written a yelp review before, but The Neurology Center's staff was so rude, disorganized, and incompetent, that I felt compelled to write a review on behalf of my husband. They botched pre-authorizations, submitting prescriptions to the drug store, and delivering results of an MRI to my husband. We were yelled at by staff on two separate occasions: 1. They didn't send a pre-authorization before getting an MRI, and we had to come back from the radiology appointment. When questioned, they gave an attitude and said it was because we didn't wait long enough between the first neurology appointment and the radiology appointment. It had been a week!! When I called the insurance company to determine what the office needed to do to complete the pre-auth, they said it was a 5 min process. After the process was (finally) completed by the office, it took several phone calls from me and the radiology group to get them to fax it. If the office didn't complete it, the out of pocket cost to us would have been close to $1000. 2. We waited 3 days for the MRI results after being told it would be 2. When my husband called for the results, they said they would call us by the end of the day. We never got a call. We called back the next day for the results, and got yelled at by staff saying my husband wasn't their only patient. We were anxious about the MRI results (thinking the worst), and the only comment the staff could make about their incompetence was by minimizing our worries. Very insensitive. Bottom line- don't go there, even if you have to wait a week or two for an appointment elsewhere. I work in the medical field, and know first-hand the importance of an office staff. Their incompetence or organization can make a huge difference in patient care. read more
