Our AC died and after another company told us that our unit could not be repaired and had to be replaced ($6,000), we contacted Harmonic for a second opinion. Daniel the service technician opened the unit up and tested everything. He took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He discovered a bare wire that had been chewed (possibly by a mouse) and was touching the metal housing which tripped the circuit breaker. Daniel replaced the wire and the unit is working perfectly. The honesty and integrity of this company is refreshing. We will not hesitate to use them again and recommend them to all our friends. read more

Stay away from this business! My entire cooling and heating system was left in an inoperable state. I called for a diagnostic of the air conditioner today because cool air isn't coming from the vents. I was told the diagnostic would cost $149. I asked to be informed of any repairs that had to be done. Technician checked the system and recommended replacing unit. We discussed replacement unit and cost. I was ready to pay deposit. In the next 10 minutes I was told that the model I selected is old and not available. New model costs $1000 more. I asked for a proposal to decide later. Technician told me that the visit costs $396. He said that he fixed air conditioner that was not working. He never told me that he is fixing anything. Through our the visit it looked like he was figuring out the problem. I talked to the owner and we agreed that any repairs that were done will be undone so that I do not have to pay for repairs. Then the technician removed all the wires from the board making both heat and fan unusable. Reece showed up on time, patiently explained how to change the filter on the humidifier, completed a full maintenance on our furnace and then reviewed what had been completed. Recently had Harmonics assess a 12 year old water heater that had a faulty sensor. The technician suggested that cleaning the unit would help the problem. It did not and I ended up paying 175+ dollars after the service charge and cleaning, none of which would go towards the valve that he said now needed to be replaced. After the fact I find it questionable that he recommended that the unit be cleaned and valve replaced given the unit is at the end of its life. My fault for not trusting my common sense. Having worked with numerous service companies you know the good ones are those that leave you with the impression that they are looking out for your best interest instead of taking the opportunity to upsell you on unrelated services. That's not the impression I got from Harmonics. On a more positive note the woman on the phone was pleasant and responsive. We requested a quote from Harmonic to replace some rusted duct work in our basement. Sean was able to come and provide a quote the same day we were able to schedule the repair within the week. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! RIPOFF ARTISTS! CHEATS! LIARS! Danny, the lead tech replaced a thermostat for me today. He did not discuss options or pricing prior to taking it out of the box and placing it on the wall. Keep in mind - there was no hard wiring done. He JUST hung the thermostat. My total bill was $459. He charged me $380 for the thermostat that RETAILS FOR $45. (This is a very basic, non wifi thermostat). I was shocked when he told me the price, but hadn't done the research to see what a complete RIP OFF this company attempted. I spoke with the owner, Jeremy, who agreed the price was high and then proceeded to justify this ridiculous charge. He sited overhead expenses, salaries, etc. I found him to be extremely patronizing. There is no excuse for an almost 1000% MARK UP! It is such a shame that the previous co-owner who was reliable and honest left the company...GEEEEEE - I wonder why he left?!?! A company I used for many years recommended two costly repairs and said I might as well replace the whole furnace. Nate showed me that I likely had some time left for the existing furnace and while it wasn't a great one, it wasn't an emergency situation as the other other company had claimed. I got a big talking about how I might have a leak, it's expensive, it's going to be obsolete soon, and I needed a lot of it potentially due to our issues. Services: A/C / Furnace Replacement Brand: Trane Models: XL80, XR13 City: Naperville, IL Quote: Decent, I searched 12 companies and Harmonic's was he in the bottom 25% and he was able to quote over the phone (3 of the companies I searched would not offer this... disappointing). Most importantly, he was punctual. When you schedule a quote, visit, or install, plan on Harmonic being there 15 minutes early. Price: Accurate to the quote. Harmonic did not try to up-sell and in fact recommended a mid-grade model rather than a high-grade for my needs. As a measure of Jeremy's honesty, I asked for him to hook up my humidifier to my Nest thermostat. He quoted me an extra $250, which I thought was fair, based on the wall drilling, attic crawling, and line running that he would have had to do. He ended up not having to run wires because there were existing wires in place (unbeknownst to me). He let me know and hooked it up for no charge. Specialty Knowledge: Jeremy owns the business. When you call you will be talking directly to him. I had ~10 questions lined up for each one of the companies I searched: Brands, Price, Installation, Licensing & Insurance, Date of Install, Labor Costs, Payment Options, etc... Only two of the companies I researched actually took the time to discuss. Tess @ Air Repair Heating & Air Conditioning, and Jeremy @ Harmonic. I went with Harmonic because Air Repair Heating offers Rheem which is inferior to the Trane systems offered by Harmonic, with similar pricing. I was on the phone with both of these companies for at least 30 minutes having all my questions answered. Service: I have no complaints. His team was efficient, punctual, clean, and courteous. On the date of install He showed up in his company vehicle, followed directly by a company truck. Five minutes later, while I was on my way out the front door, another truck showed up with both the units. Like clockwork folks... Both units were installed in ~6 hours (mind you, my house is a single story ranch with little/no modifications needing to be done) Website: Excellent presentation and ease of use. One thing that did turn me off was the lack of "NATE Certification" that some other companies seemed to take pride in. This bothered me at first, but after talking with Harmonic over the phone, I was completely at ease. Also I know Trane, Carrier, and other top brands are very selective about who they allow to install their products. Advice: Do your homework, compile your questions, create an excel spreadsheet, pick the company that meets your price point and expectations. I stumbled across Harmonic maybe a year or two ago after having a ultra bad experience with another local HVAC company who actually made fun of me for buying a $250 thermostat instead of just helping me install my Nest. Harmonic consists of a team of super friendly young guys who are all about the latest technology, so we jived well right off the bat. When my furnace died earlier this week, they were the first people I called. Turns out the problem was with my blower motor, which they were more than happy to replace for me, but I fully realized with how old my furnace was all I was doing was applying a very expensive band-aid to a much larger, totally inevitable problem. I knew when I bought my house it had an ancient furnace from the 80's, so I've been planning for this day for quite a while. Without much hesitation, I signed on for the full enchilada of replacing my dead furnace, dying AC, and finally ditching my janky humidifier that I have to refill multiple times a day for a automatic full-house humidifier- I even sprang for their air purifier. Go big or go home, right? Once I agreed to the quote and we scheduled the install, Harmonic actually did me a huge solid- I had all my warm blankets and space heaters out and was already coming to terms with the idea of being supremely cold until they could come back a couple days later with the new furnace, but they actually ended up just putting in a loaner blower motor for free, which they then just took back when they hauled my old furnace out. Totally unexpected for them to be willing to do that, but totally awesome. (I actually ended up writing a check as if they had done the blower motor replacement service instead, which they gave back to me when they returned for the install in case I changed my mind.) This kind of stuff always makes me super loyal to repair guys, as they TOTALLY could have been like, "Yeah well if you want your heat working TODAY, it'll be $XXX, or you can just be cold!" When it's in the single digits with a snowstorm inbound, an unscrupulous repair guy would totally have you by the you-know-what's on that, and it'd probably even have worked. Anyway, they came back a couple days later, and that morning as I was moving stuff away from my furnace I noticed my water heater was ALSO leaking. (Bad things happen in threes, like they say.) So, what was just an AC and furnace install turned into an AC, furnace, and hot water heater. Jeremy and his two guys, Tony and Brandon, spent the whole day ripping out all my old and busted stuff and replacing it with new hotness. (Literal hotness, as, man, having a new furnace is nice and toasty.) Later that night, the PEX tube feeding the humidifier somehow popped off, which I was able to catch pretty quickly and turn off. I texted Jeremy at around 11:00 PM not really expecting any kind of response right away and instead was met with a profuse apology, offering to send a cleaning service (It's just a little water, it's fine!), and to have his guys come out first thing the following morning to fix it. Bright and early, Tony shows up again to make a couple tweaks, and aside from that minor bump in the road which was fixed practically immediately, everything went awesome. I can't wait to get my first gas bill to see how much of a difference a two-stage furnace and new water heater make (same goes for an electric bill and the AC). The price they quoted was good considering they install all name brand stuff between Trane, Honeywell, and Rheem, and any charges for labor were well worth it as everything looks so much neater and nicer than the mess I had in my basement before. They even moved my water heater for me to a much more sensible place, which is going to make refinishing (or, more accurately, *talking about* refinishing) my basement that much easier. Overall, great service from a great company staffed by great guys. They know their stuff too, ask Jeremy any random question about anything to do with HVAC stuff and he'll give you an answer that's so comprehensive it's incredible. HOPEFULLY with all this new stuff I don't see the dudes at Harmonic for a very long time (maybe for beers, not for furnaces!), but I'll definitely be recommending them to anyone who needs anything HVAC related done in the future. read more

Plenty of really in depth reviews already. I talked to a few different places but was most comfortable with Jeremy - very knowledgeable, great customer service, super responsive. I'm guessing I could have found someplace cheaper (though the pricing met or beat two other places I checked out) but I don't mind paying more for excellent service and someone who knows what they're really talking about. It's always weird having strangers in your house, esp when most of the time you have no idea what's going on so you kinda expect to be sold things you might not really need. This company really lives up to it's 5 star reviews on Yelp. Tony came out for a job that wasn't exactly what I thought I scheduled for. Long story short, he quickly assessed the AC system, told me it was not necessary in our case and it was also a more expensive job. He was just an easy going honest guy. He didn't push me to have the routine maintenance work done at all. Which I did end up doing anyways bc of how honest he was in the beginning. We will be replacing our whole system soon (which is a big expensive project) and we're going with Harmonic for sure! read more
