When we hired Alicia (more than a year before our wedding) we thought we were getting someone experienced. What we failed to realize is that we would end up with someone burnt out (my MIL noticed right away and only met her once) who just wanted to create a cookie cutter wedding. She has her go-to venue in Napa and also claims she has done lots of weddings in the city. But she is not a top planner, at least not in San Francisco. Look at her reviews. If you notice, most of them worked with Jessica. (I didn't get to work with her until the day of and she was confused because she wasn't engaged from the beginning!) Alicia has been doing this for 10 years and only has a handful of good reviews. She gives you a spreadsheet that she makes you fill out as a couple as a "getting to know you." The ironic part is, she hardly reviews it or even cares to go through it with the couple. She skips almost all the meetings to try to book future appointments and leaves you with her assistants, even though you've paid for full planning. She lets her "team" take care of everything but they don't communicate, so you find yourself having to explain things over and over again. She also doesn't take responsibility when things go wrong. Instead, she just pushes the blame to the vendors. She'll also steer you away from your design if she doesn't have the rental items in her back room. She'll tell you that things are unavailable in the Bay Area, until you do a google search yourself and tell her to help you source what you find. I could go on and on, but if you are a bride that wants to enjoy your wedding planning process and day, do yourself a favor and get a real planner who wants to make your wedding dream a reality. When I realized that Alicia K Designs was a huge disaster, I had to re-engage the wedding planner I worked with before moving to California from the East Coast to help me with my ideas and designs. After the wedding I tried to work things out with Alicia but she just ignored me because she had already been paid.

Alicia definitely knew the venue well and had a good relationship with both Kunde and our caterer (Park Avenue). This expertise definitely came in handy in working with the venue and vendors. Specifically, Alicia's team handled the lighting for the event well, even despite a completely new setup at Kunde after they renovated/landscaped their hilltop. The entire setup was perfect and the flow was great. Our guests (plus us) had such a great time and it was a wonderful event. My initial consultations with Alicia were great but there were some issues with some of the later follow-ups. She delivered the initial proposal over a month later than was promised and because of this our timing was quite condensed. I responded to everything she sent to me within 24 hours but she was continually delayed in getting back to me. I only mention this because I felt pressed towards the end to approve the proposal even with some minor errors because we had run out of time. Also, she passed off our wedding to her coordinator (Jessica) as we got closer to the event. Although in our contract it stated that Alicia herself would be our key contact leading up to and including the wedding day it was actually Jessica that became our main contact. Jessica was wonderful and very attentive but there were slight issues with timing for the day-of. Not a big deal, but I was frustrated because I was promised Alicia would be on-site including a guarantee the morning of the wedding. The wedding itself was absolutely fantastic - again Jessica did a great job and will continue to develop into an excellent coordinator. I think their team is definitely a solid team to use, I just had some minor issues with feeling passed along but nothing that wouldn't stop me from recommending this team to future brides.

We told her the vague vision we had and loved the inspiration photos she sent us back. We specified what colors and general feel we wanted ("fall" but without pumpkins or maple leaves) and went back and forth a bit on the ceremony centerpiece, but beyond that we left a lot in her hands. I'm so glad we did because she got to do what she does best, which is create incredible floral art. I think Gina is also a bit magical because she did something pretty special and extraordinary with our flowers... A few weeks before the wedding she texted and asked me what jewelry I was going to wear on the big day. I sent back a picture of the earrings I planned to wear, red coral drops that my now-spouse had gotten me on a special vacation to Italy. He bought them for me in Napoli, a city that is very dear to my heart, and I chose them because they remind me of the "cornicello" a Neapolitan good-luck symbol that looks a bit like a red chili pepper. I didn't tell Gina any of that -- but on our wedding day she had red chili peppers scattered throughout our floral arrangements, including in bouquet. It absolutely blew me away! It felt like I was surrounded by little bursts of good luck everywhere I looked that day, and just meant the world to me. It also struck me as incredibly creative -- I'd never thought about including peppers in floral arrangements, and so many guests asked us about them. Finally, not only is Gina deeply creative but she's also a true professional. We had to move our entire ceremony from a redwood forest to our indoor reception venue on short notice due to rain. Gina pivoted on a dime without complaint, and really busted her butt to bring inside the forest feel we'd spent a year dreaming about. Furthermore, she and her team, with the help of our caterer and coordinator, flipped the ceremony space from an altar, aisle, and chairs, to a sit-down dinner for 140 in about 90 minutes. It took my breath away to see how she transformed the space and to experience how different it felt, and it was not lost on us how incredibly hard she and her team worked on our wedding day. And in one final very thoughtful surprise, she had purchased beautiful wooden cutouts of our and our wedding party's names for our plates at the head table. We had no idea she'd done that and were so touched by the gesture. To top it off, Gina was incredibly easy to work with, start to finish. She was a clear communicator, had easy online booking and payment, and was willing to work with our firm budget. I can also vouch for her special occasion arrangements; I hired her to send a bouquet to a friend for her birthday, and the arrangement was gorgeous. I'll be coming back to her for all my flower needs, whether everyday or special occasion, from here on out, and recommend her to everyone!
