I came for Harmony's dimsum, which made me so very sad. I ordered about 4 types of dumplings, all of which had very thick rice dough. Sort of like mass produced rice cake, if you will. It's not good if something purportedly handmade has the texture of something mass produced. I'd actually recommend skipping the dimsum concept altogether in Marin since you'd have to cross a bridge to get decent dimsum. Or if you don't want to cross a bridge, just get OK Chinese food a la carte at Lily Kai in Tiburon. From my time living in Marin, I'm not surprised that North Bay is somewhat unsophisticated and underserved when it comes to Asian cuisine, but I was pretty shocked by the number of regulars who are willing to put up with such subpar dimsum. Like Kevin B, I'm impressed that Harmony can get away with this, even if it uses locally sourced ingredients. Yes, the regulars will remain loyal, but this is a cautionary tale to out-of-towners. 1 extra star for easy parking. read more

I ordered the dim sum to go: way overpriced for what you get. The flavors were very mediocre; definitely not worth $25 for 6 pieces of dim sum and one duck bun. Ridiculous. If you want authentic dim sum, go to Chinatown in San Francisco or Oakland, where the prices are more than fair and the dim sum is about as perfectly original as you can get in the United States. read more

This has been my go to place for a quick take-out meal for several years now. I live 2 minutes away. Over time the prices have risen and are outrageous at this point. $35 recently for three small boxes - and I mean small - of take-out - and the boxes weren't full. What ever happened to overstuffed Chinese food take-out boxes? Their signature chicken is good but is now 12.95 for a quarter pound...so that means the chicken is 52. a pound. What!!? They also are heavy handed when filling the boxes even if you ask for a certain amount. I can't justify going back at this point. They will continue to lose business if they don't reconsider their high prices. Disappointing. read more

AND IT WAS AMAZINGGGGG.!!!!!!! I mean, I will get out of Napa, drive to Mill Valley AMAZING! Nur was our waiter, and although he asked me to only talk about food, and not him - BOTH WERE STELLAR! My friend I was with swore she was not a Peking duck fan. NOW SHE IS! The shui mai with pork was killer. The other 5 things that I can't remember were as well. Potstickers, those clear noodle ones that are making me hungry now...... Even the green tea was awesome! There's a "take out quick serve" area that I would be ALL OVER if I lived closer. I was tempted to buy more steamed pork buns to go, but it seemed EXCESSIVE SINCE WE HAD ALREADY HAD 2 ORDERS And after ordering everything I could, (and more than we should have) it was VERY REASONABLE- actually pretty CHEAP! Delicious food if they don't forget about you, your order and food. 3 tables arrived and seated after us and received food and reorders of food all the while we waited with nothing but a refill on water for over 20 minutes. I feel like I am constantly being punished every time I come here. Whether I put big gaps of time in between my return or short bouts of time. Was so hungry I thought surely one dish will come and save us. Nope, nada. Wave down? Nope, no one would look up. It's that tortured thing of waiting and someone forgetting AND no apologies. BUT the food is good so I would keep it at 3 because there are not that many "Better than OK Chinese Restaurants" and this place is way above the bar. I just struggle with the hit and miss service. I don't get why there are so many negative reviews here; seems like most are from big dim sum aficionados (which I am not) and/or people who might want some cheaper food (which you can certainly get elsewhere). I have been coming to Harmony for about 12 years and have never had a bad experience. I think the quality of the menu is outstanding, with dishes that are creative, full of fresh, organic vegetables and meats, and with flavor profiles that are beyond the basic Chinese food you may get elsewhere. As an bonus, they will prepare many of their dishes with gluten-free tamari for those that are gluten sensitive or intolerant. I highly recommend the Claypot Pork, the turnip cake, the house fried rice (which we order made with brown rice), and any of their chicken dishes. Their asparagus with black bean sauce is also a winner. I have always found the staff to be welcoming, thorough and thoughtful. I am so glad they reopened for take-out during the pandemic, still providing wonderful, delicious food. read more

I'm really conflicted about Harmony. I like the food, in concept. Especially the Harmony Beef. But there are too many "buts" about Harmony. The dining room is nice, but the prices are really too high, especially for the delicate sized portions. The Spare Ribs sound good on paper but they are tough as nails, time and time again, so I stopped ordering them, despite my optimistic nature. The Orange Beef has good flavor, but you have to get the abundant and syrupy sweet sauce on the side or you'll end up with diabetes before lunch is over. Sometimes I don't want to spend an arm and a leg so I opt for their to-go counter. The problem there is that these offerings end up being "heat lamp" foods, often dried out and tired by the time they sell them. You have more control here over the portions and selection, but the prices, which are by-the-pound, are no bargain either. Sometimes I'll wait and get what comes out fresh from the wok while I'm there. Lunch for two people in the dining room can add up fast, usually about $70, all totaled, with a beer. There are many more affordable choices in Marin for excellent food, with the home-style feel, like Feng Nian, like a mile away in Sausalito. read more

We stopped in for lunch. We waited too long for someone to take our order. My nieces ordered an assortment of dim sum and I ordered a vegetarian dish of mushrooms with egg noodles. The girls were finished with their lunch by the time mine arrived. I counted three pieces of mushrooms - the noodles were dry and barely warm - no flavor. I was really excited to see a dim sum restaurant in Mill Valley, especially one appears to be fancier than your typical super busy Chinese dim sum restaurant in SF. I expected Harmony to pay more attention to detail. Boy was I wrong. I ordered very basic barbecue pork bun, some shrimp dumplings, and a stir fry vegetable dish. The pork bun was extremely lacking in pork (see attached picture). It's almost like they're trying to save costs so they've eliminated the most expensive part of the dish, except "barbecue pork" isn't very expensive at all. When you bite into the bun, you taste mostly bun. I had to exclude most of the buns from my bites so I left numerous tidbits of bun behind. The shrimp dumpling was average, perhaps something you'd find in the dim sum places in the airport. They also don't seem very organized. The stir fry veggie dish actually came about 10 - 15 minutes after my dim sum was served, so I was basically sitting around for 5 - 10 minutes with nothing to eat. I would give this restaurant a 2 star, but with the prices they're charging ($31 including tip for my order), I have to drop it down to 1 star. read more

The kiddo and I were so excited to find a place in Marin that serves dim sum (and has so many veggie options). We really loved our experience here...we tried four steamed dim sum and two fried. We had the pea shoot dumplings, organic leek and corn, vegetarian, vegetable greens, crispy won ton and veggie spring rolls. We loved it all! My favorite was the pea shoot dumplings and the kiddo loved the leek and corn dumplings. We had a great experience and we are looking forward to going back again for our dim sum pick! Harmony is extremely basic. It's a modernized Chinese cuisine restaurant that takes the rich oily flavors of traditional Chinese food away. You sacrifice flavor for what I assume, a less fatty and healthier dish. If I wanted a dish with no flavor (a little), I would cook it myself haha. The service was fine, but what I do not like is their ambiguous prices for dim sum (4.5 - 7 each). It would have been nice knowing what we were paying for. read more

Considering that the numbers of people with Celiac and/or wheat allergies, or gluten intolerance I'm amazed that Harmony has yet to work rice flour dough into their dim sum - it's being done, recipes on line abound. Tamari instead of soy which has wheat should be used. Or get really creative and use coconut aminos! I'm so sad, I gave Harmony a few years to get it together but boo hoo, it's the same wheat gluten menu. read more

Stop by to eat at this on the way home from fishing, almost everything was great. Stay away from the fried foods their flavor was subtle. Peking duck is a must have and all the steamed items we're delicious. Decor is very modern and service from our waiter was great as well, he made sure to stop by every chance he had to make sure if we needed anything and kept our drinks topped off. We spent about $100 dollars for 2 people and we are stuffed. Prices seem reasonable from the quality and ambiance, would definitely eat here again. read more

This place has amazing food!! BUT be warned! The hours posted are not accurate. They say open until 9:30. I just tried the door at 9pm on a Saturday night and they were locked. I tried knocking to ask if there might be a chance for take out. The woman behind the desk ignored me and would not look up and acknowledge my presence. It felt really sad to be dismissed like that. Ok, Harmony - I'm not sure if it's your fault anymore or mine (because I keep coming back to you). But as they say, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result. Long story short - I'm clearly insane. I SO want to support this restaurant. It's one of the few Chinese places near me in Mill Valley. But each time I hit up their to-go window, I feel like I'm getting double-charged for luke-warm food that's been sitting around for hours. Case in point: I came in this evening and ordered 3 pot stickers (which had clearly been cooked a while ago) and a side of chicken chow main. Total cost: $16! Seriously, guys?! How are you getting away with this highway robbery? To give you some perspective - I checked the same menu items/prices at Eliza's (which is SF's top rated Chinese restaurant) - and the price was $5.50 for 5 hot-off-the-pan pot stickers and $9.00 for fresh chicken chow main. SF's best Chinese restaurant is significantly cheaper than this microwaveable grub. How is this possible? It's just simple Chinese food, for God's sake. It ain't freakin' fois gras! One other thing: if you don't request hot sauce, soy sauce, or mustard for your pot stickers, you'll be S.O.L. when you get home. Not to be too nit-picky and all, but asking customers if they want condiments and cutlery for their to-go bag should be a given. If an average deli can do it for a $6 sandwich, then an overpriced Chinese restaurant should be able to do it for this $16 nonsense. Like I said, it's my fault that I keep coming here and hoping for a different (more affordable) result. Clearly, they're getting away with these insane Marin County prices. Chef Norman Louie is passionate about his food. I know this is Marin, and it's pretty much the death of Chinese food. There's no good dim sum places around here. It really annoys me when people mention P.F. Chang's has great dim sum and Chinese food. The prices are steep at Harmony, but it's extremely authentic. You can't get anymore authentic than this in Marin, besides Yet Wah. I refer friends, colleagues, and family to come here, and they all think it's spectacular. The flavors are amazing. I do compare it to Yank Sing - Marin version. I opt for take-out during lunch time, as the deals are unbeatable and satisfies my craving for delicious Chinese food. I sooooooo much wanted to like this place. Clean lines. Decorated with taste. Service was good, actually very good. Fig Tree wine was lovely. But the food was so not up to par for a restaurant like this. We had three dishes: 1) Traditional Sweet 'n Sour Pork 2) Tea Smoked Duck 3) Chinese Chicken Salad The chicken salad had almost no chicken. Kind of bland. We ended up trying to spice it up a tad with the hot mustard. The duck, which is traditionally skimpy, was almost without meat on the bones. Beyond skimpy. The pork, ah the pork . . . . overcooked and really, really, really tough. I shall be trying to get it out of my teeth for days. The chicken salad was consumed; what there was of the duck was stripped off the bones; but 90% of the pork went back to the kitchen at the end of the meal. The few pieces of mango & pineapple & onion & pepper were eaten, but no one even wanted to take the tough pork home. Such a disappointment. I may give it one more try . . . . I agree with Dana G; some good, if pricey food and spotty service led to a solid three stars for Harmony Restaurant. This is an easy to find spot in Strawberry that has modern decor and a delivery area up front. The hostess was friendly and seated us promptly (it was busy when we arrived, but dead by the time we finished up). Our server wasn't all that attentive, but she got the job done. There were tons of staff around, but perhaps the semi-open kitchen made it seem more crowded. Sweet potato fries were the highlight for me, and that isn't too great coming out of an asian restaurant. My friend's dim sum was kinda bland, and the texture of the wrap was mushy, gummy and overall off-putting (I generally only like fried wraps or pasta). If they had a bun similar to the BBQ pork ones for veggie items, I'd have been soooo happy. The chicken spring roll was great, but the avocado ones were overpowered by onions. The fried sesame balls for dessert were yummy, but very dense. Overall the prices were a couple bucks over what it's worth, likely paying for all the staff and building overhead. You can expect a reasonable dining experience coming to Harmony, but a truly harmonious experience it is not. read more

We just finished an amazing meal at harmony. The food is exquisite! We had green beans, asparagus, crispy chicken, lamb and chicken with lettuce cups, chow fun and tasty beef. The reason I am giving 5 stars is not only for the quality of the food but the service. The service and attentiveness is spot on. Our hostess has severe food allergies and the staff made positively sure that nothing had soy etc. They constantly filled her tamari dish and the special attention the staff gave us phenomenal. Wow here's a spot for great Cantonese cuisine. This restaurant is beautiful inside with very friendly and professional servers. The menu covers it all to include dim sum at night. They offer a vegetarian selection for vegans. The beer and wine list are impressive. Close to the freeway and plenty of parking available. I will bookmark this one for my next visit. read more

Initial impression is Poor. At 7:13pm I stood at the reception desk for 7 minutes with no hostess in sight. Made eye contact with multiple servers, but no one offered me service. When I finally asked for assistance I was shown a side area for take out. I hope the food is better than the service, because the front room service stinks. Almost walked out. Absolutely terrible, sorry excuse for Chinese food. Also crazy expensive. I received 5 honey walnut prawns for $21 that were covered in cold grainy mayonnaise. The noodles were way too greasy and the veggies weren't fresh. The dim sum was okkkkkk, and I suspect many former San Franciscans that now love in Marin go to this spot to get the dim sum "they used to eat in the City". We went here years ago and it was bad. Thought we'd try it on Sunday night because the restaurant has lasted so long how bad could it be right? It's still bad. We paid $40 and change to pick up a small shrimp entrée (six sauce - saturated prawns,) greasy over-cooked green beans with a few sad cherry tomatoes, three little logs of spring rolls (one twist and a cup of oil dripped out,) four tough dim sum shrimp dumplings and a side of white rice. Sad characterization of authentic Chinese food, full of grease and cliché. Not recommend it to anyone. read more
